• Cisco Pix how to add an additional block of static ip addresses for nat?

  I have a pix 501 with 5 static ip addresses. My isp just gave me 5 more. I am trying to figure out how to add the new block and then how to nat/open at least one of them to an inside machine. So far, I named a new interface "intf2", ip range is 71.11.11.58 - 62 (gateway should 71.11.11.57) imgsvr is the machine I want to nat to one of the (71.11.11.59) new ip addresses. mail (.123) is an example of a machine that is mapped to the current existing 5 ip block (96.11.11.121 gate / 96.11.11.122-127) and working fine.   I just ran into an issue where a request made to localhost:8080 from curl was hitting a different server than the same request made from inside Node. lsof -i :8080 revealed that two processes were both binding onto the same port: COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME node 51961 mball 14u IPv4 0xd980e0df7f175e13 0t0 TCP *:http-alt (LISTEN) java 62704 mball 320u IPv6 0xd980e0df7fe08643 0t0 TCP *:http-alt (LISTEN) How is this possible? Were they binding onto different interfaces? Or was it the IPv4 vs 6? If you're curious, node was hitting the other node process, curl was hitting the java process. The java process was started after the node process.

But that's only two displays and I'm shooting for three. All I do is develop software and work in Photoshop... no games.   This is a consumer app, so I will care about storage costs - I don't want to have 5x copies of data lying about. The app shards very well, so I can use MySQL and not have scaling issues. Amazon EBS has a nice baseline+snapshot backup capability that uses S3. This should have a light footprint (in terms of storage cost). BUT: the magnolia.com story scares the crap out of me: basically flawless block-level backup of a corrupt DB or filesystem. Is there anything that is nearly as storage efficient as EBS at the MySQL level?

  I'm modifying an existing winforms application to use the Logging Application Block. For historical reasons this app gets its main database connection string from the registry, and I'd like the Logging Application Block to use the same details for logging to the database. How can I do this? The approaches i can think of are: 1) Create a new TraceListener and implement the same sort of functionality as in FormattedDatabaseTraceListener. If I take this approach, should I inherit from CustomTraceListener, and if so how do I pass an attribute of the formatter to use? 2) Create a new ConfigurationSource that provides different details when asked for the database connection. All other requests would be passed through to a FileConfigurationSource, but when asked for the database connection details the object would read the appropriate bits from the registry instead. but it's not obvious which is more appropriate, or how to go about doing it. I want to take those same applications and publish them in a different app domain under a different port, 8001. However, when google starts crawling all the sites at the same time, the small set of servers that back this IP block can take a pretty big hit on load. With google webmaster tools, you can rate limit the googlebot on a given domain, but I haven't found a way to limit the bot across an IP network yet. Anyone have experience with this?   Hi ! I'm currently doing a firewall management application for Django, here's the (simplified) model : class Port(models.Model): number = models.PositiveIntegerField(primary_key=True) application = models.CharField(max_length=16, blank=True) class Rule(models.Model): port = models.ForeignKey(Port) ip_source = models.IPAddressField() ip_mask = models.IntegerField(validators=[MaxValueValidator(32)]) machine = models.ForeignKey("vmm.machine") What I would like to do, however, is to display to the user a form for entering rules, but with a very different organization than the model : Port 80 O Not open O Everywhere O Specific addresses : --------- delete field --------- delete field + add address field Port 443 ... etc Where Not open means that there is no rule for the given port, Everywhere means that there is only ONE rule (0.0.0.0/0) for the given port, and with specific addresses, you can add as many addresses as you want (I did this with JQuery), which will make as many rules. Now I did a version completely "handmade", meaning that I create the forms entirely in my templates, set input names with a prefix, and parse all the POSTed stuff in my view (which is quite painful, and means that there's no point in using a web framework). I also have a class which aggregates the rules together to easily pre-fill the forms with the informations "not open, everywhere, ...".   Hi there. I've got two apache2 instances running on my box. One came with a bitnami redmine stack which sole purpose is to host Redmine at host:8080/redmine. The other apache instance is running with php and such and is where I specify all the VHosts for my domains. Now I'd like to point redmine.somedomain.com at www.somedomain.com:8080/redmine so that redmine is accessible through a subdomain and on port 80. Redmine is a Ruby on Rails app and runs with Phusion Passenger so I can't just point the vhost to the htdocs directory of the redmine install. How is this done? I've tinkered with ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse but I just can't get it working. All help is greatly appreciated.

  I am setting up a virtual machine using Microsoft Virtual PC in Windows 7. The VM will run a Windows XP. I want to set up a public-facing server in it for web pages, subversion and other things, and instruct the router to port forward any requests to that Virtual Machine. I managed to do that - I assigned the VM to the network adapter, and it is now acting as just another DHCP client - but to increase security I would like to block the VM from the rest of the LAN, so it accepts only incoming connections from the Internet. For this to be effective in case of a compromise, it would have to happen on VM level as far as I can see. Can this be done?

• Cascading switches: uplink to uplink?

  I'm a bit confused as to why I haven't seen any references online to using Switch A's uplink port (1Gbps, 24-port 10/100) to connect to Switch B's uplink port: everything I've seen -- including documentation, forums, articles, etc. -- has Switch A's uplink port going to one of Switch B's 10/100 access ports. As I understand it, the Uplink port (besides greater speed normally) is no different than another port except that it's "internally crossed-over" so that you can use a straight cable with it. I've also seen documentation on using the uplink port to connect a switch to a gateway router, or even a server, as it provides greater bandwidth than the access ports, but yet not sure why nobody seems to be cross-uplinking, even when there's 2 uplink ports available on some higher-end switches. Switch in question is Linksys SRW224P (x2). Am I missing something?

  I just built myself an new workstation and now only 2 of 3 monitors are working. I built the nvidia driver by downloading it and installing with ./Nvidia... Before when I ran nvidia-settings I saw two GPUs listed but now I only see one.   I just recently learn Java and try to communicate to the device through USB port connection. I've have used C# with OpenNETCF which allows me to send file and retrieve file on the device through USB port; how can I achieve this with java? I seearch on stackoverflow thread, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/544507/how-to-communicate-with-a-usb-device-under-windows-and-java, the comment made by christoffer is to hack the native code, but I don't quite which native code api that he referred to. RAPI, maybe?
