  • Copy a harddrive from a failed desktop machine using a second working one.

    Heres the scenario: I have PC-A, an old PC that runs Windows XP but now refuses to boot due to a failed motherboard (or maybe PSU). This PC has a single 80gb IDE drive. I also have PC-B, running Windows Vista, this is working fine. I want to copy all the data off PC-As HDD onto PC-B. To do this I have taken the HDD out of PC-A and connected it as a slave to PC-B. PC-B now boots and sees the additional drive. However, when I attempt to access/copy user folders (i.e. Documents and Settings/[username]/*) I am told that I cannot access the folders due to user permissions. I am doing this under an adminstrator account on PC-B. So the question is, how can I "backup" the data? Preferably without making any changes to the drive contents. The reason for this is that it is possible that PC-A is failing due to a bad PSU, so I intend to replace it before writing off the machine. However I would feel much happier if I had a backup of the data on the HDD.

    I want to install Achiva to manage my Maven repositories. I add a new internal repository called "public" and a new remote repository, which is my company's repository. Then I configure the proxy connector to let the repository "public" to be a proxy of the remote one. But When I enter the address "http://localhost:8084/archiva/repository/public/.../....pom" in the web brower,error occurred "Unable to fetch artifact resource". However, if I replace the remote repository with another one such as "http://repository.codehaus.org/", the proxy works. I don't know why this happens, are there something wrong with my remote repository address?

Some people have theorized that it's because there was no log file in the backup, and it needed to be rolled forward using: RESTORE DATABASE MyDatabase WITH RECOVERY Except that, of course, fails: Msg 4333, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The database cannot be recovered because the log was not restored. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. And exactly what you want in a catastrophic situation is a restore that won't work.   • Can I get a dump of all my databases *except one* using mysqldump?

    I'm currently using mySQLdump to backup my dev machine and servers. There is one project I just started, however, that has a HUUUUUGE database that I don't really need backed up, and i'll be a big problem to add it to the rest of the backup cycle. I'm currently doing this: "c:\Program Files\mysql\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqldump" -u root -pxxxxxx --all-databases g:\backups\MySQL\mysqlbackup.sql Is it possible to somehow specify "except this database(s)"? I wouldn't like to have to specify the list of DBs manually, since that would mean that I'd have to remember updating my backup batch file every time I create a new DB, and I know that's not gonna happen. EDIT: As you probably guessed from my command line above, i'm doing this on Windows, so I can't do any kind of fancy bash stuff, only wimpy .bat things. Alternatively, if you have other ideas to solve this same issue, they are more than welcome, of course! Thanks Daniel

    (Using Windows 2000 and 2003 Server) We use forfiles.exe to delete backup .zip files older than n days, and it works great (command is a bit like below) forfiles -p"C:\Backup" -m"*.zip" -c"cmd /c if @ISDIR==FALSE del \"@PATH\@FILE\"" -d-5 If a .zip file fails to be created, I'd like to ensure that we don't end up with 0 .zip files in the backup after 5 days. Therefore, the command needs to be: "delete anything older than 5 days, but ALWAYS keep the most recent 5 files, EVEN if they themselves are older than 5 days" We can use forfiles.exe or another solution (although anything that is a slick one-liner is ALWAYS preferable to a script file).   • Having IIS remote management problem with my vista machine managing Server 2008 IIS 7.5

    I am trying to use IIS 7 Remote Management installed on Vista Ultimate SP1. Connection is to IIS 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 Webserver R2. Tried on both full & core install. When I connect up, the console wants to download and install new features. Microsoft.Web.Management.IisClient 7.5.0.0 Microsoft.Web.Management.AspnetClient 7.5.0.0 I check the boxes and click OK and it downloads them and asks if I want to install them, but after I click run it just quits. I tried just choosing one or the other, same thing. I ran IIS Remote tool as administrator. These features installed correctly on my XP machine. Any ideas? UPDATE : If I had any Rep I would offer like 500 rep to get this fixed!

    I'm new with Rundeck and completely amazed with it and I'm trying to execute a job and my scenario is detailed below: Rundeck is configured with ssh passwordless authentication for user master between node Server (rundeck server) and node Target (remote Solaris host) for user "master" In node Target I want to execute a script /app/acme/stopApp.sh with a user appmanager Normally and manually, when I need to run script above I proceed with ssh master@server sudo su - appmanager or simply ssh -t master@server 'sudo su - appmanager' works without password and finally run (as appmanager) /app/acme/stopApp.sh But I'm not sure how can I reproduce these steps using Rundeck. I read in some previous messages that for each job line rundeck use a new ssh connection, so the workflow below always fails for me with the messages: sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified Remote command failed with exit status 1 Please someone could help me with some information to solve this issue. Without this functionality I wouldn't be able to introduce a little DevOps in my department. I read the user guide and admin guide but I couldn't find an easy example, neither in this forum, to follow.

For example, if I edit a text file in the local folder and then save it, it should immediately detect it and push the changes to the remote folder. It can be unidirectional (changes made on the local folder has to be pushed to the remote folder but the reverse is not necessary). It should also be able to specify some excluded files/folders which do not need to be in sync. Is there such an application that you know of?

  • Unknown protocol when trying to connect to remote host wit stunnel

    I'm trying to set up a stunnel for WebDav on Windows. I want to connect 80 port on my local interface to 443 on another machine in my network. I can ping the machine remote machine. However when I use the tunnel, I'm getting this error all the time SSL state (accept): before/accept initialization SSL_accept: 140760FC: error:140760FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_CLIENT_HELLO:unknown protocol There is nothing in the logs on the other machine and here's my stunnel connection config [https] accept = 127.0.0.2:80 connect = 10.0.0.60:443 verify = 0 I've set it up to accept all certificates so this shouldn't be a problem with a self-signed certificate remote host uses. Does anyone knows what might be the problem that this connection cannot be eastablished?

Example of what I mean: ssh [email protected] "remote command to execute" ...or do I have to Remote Desktop just to do this? (I'd like to run the commands programmatically from another computer rather than running them by hand.)

  • Question about Remote WAN IP on NetGear FVS336G VPN setup

    I wanted to be able to have a VPN connection to my home network so I purchased the FVS336G because the reviews said it was easy set up. I am sure it is for someone that knows what needs to be entered it is easy, but I am a little confused. Using the VPN wizard I choose VPN Client as the tunnel connection, enter key, etc... but then I get to the "What is the remote WAN's IP or Internet Name" and "What is the local WAN's IP address or Internet Name" I am lost. I am probably being really dumb, but I am not sure what I need to put in here. Is the remote WAN ip the ip from the outside world to my cable modem? Is the local ip the ip to my FVS336G? Any help would be appreciated.

    I have remote servlet for example: h*tps://[ip_address]/servlet (h*tps://[ip_address]/ - Tomcat main page) that i need to configure on local Apache HTTPd server. My mod_jk configuration looks like below, but doesn't work. Something works, because when i type h*tps://localhost/console in a browser i get Tomcat error page "HTTP Status 404 - /console/".     From time to time,we suffer problems like we can not remote connect to our server via ssh.So we have to send someone on site to restart the computer for this problem.It causes a lot of pain.The situation is we have to remote connect to our server,which are very important like database server and application server and etc.We have met problems like ssh hang,like command ssh [email protected] with no response. when using ssh -v debug mode, it says : debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /.ssh/identity type -1 debug1: identity file /.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /.ssh/id_dsa type -1 debug1: loaded 3 keys and we met this situation many times with no clue how to solve it.Is any log which can identify this problem? or Is there a tool for this problem? help needed!Any idea are appreciated.

    Since I am using SMTPSVC from IIS to send all mail out I have noticed some domains that reject mail regarding LFs and similar SMTP day to day basis problems. So I mostly re route these domains by using smarthosts. Now I aslo read that on IIS7 or most of them when you add a remote domain to domains you must restart SMTPSVC to take effect. I also enabled METABASE editing. So I also hoped that this will help me add remote domains on the fly. But it's not working. Should I use another SMTP: -hmailserver or similar to route DOMAINS by smarthost. We used a smarthost configuration before but ISP smarthost gets a lot on RBL Blacklist so mail comes back. Since DNS MX direct sending is more work because of troublesome domains now I got more work to monitor SMTP logs. Thank you in advance.

I have images that is on my supplier’s remote server and my site is on Host Gator the only way to get the images show up on my site is to connect to their server using links to the images (per agreement). They tell me that ZenCart PHP does not allow you to serve images from a remote host.     Situation: I have two Windows7 machines (PC and laptop). I've set PC as VPN server and laptop as VPN client using default built-in W7 network tools. I've disabled use default gateway in remote network on client machine, so client don't try to route all communication through VPN. I've routed port 1723 (TCP/UDP) on NAT to my server and enabled IPSec/PPTP/L2TP passthrough I've put my laptop in indepedent network (basically I've connected it via 3G network), connected to VPN server and checked ipconfig /all I've get: IP Address: 192.168.1.101 Mask: 255.255.255.255 Gateway: (none) LAN mask in server LAN network is 255.255.255.0 - I am surely missing something obvious, but Google doesn't give me any good advices; How can I access local LAN network from remote VPN client? How can I access local shared documents?
