• Authenticating a user for a single app with multiple domains

  I have one asp.net web application, but two different domains point to this web app. For instance: www.one.com and www.two.com both point to the same web app. I have an issue where I need certain pages to be on a specific domain (due to some security requirements from our online payment provider - a third party website). So let's say page1.aspx needs to be called on www.two.com The process is as follows: A user logs into www.one.com The authentication cookie is saved to the browser The user then navigates to page1.aspx and, if on the wrong domain, gets redirected to the correct domain. (this redirection happens on page1.aspx in the page_load event) Then asp.net redirects the user to the login screen, because the authentication cookie is not sent to www.two.com. How can I track the user and keep him/her logged in between the two domains?

• Do programmable Ethernet devices (think onboard CPU) really exist?

  I've heard from various people that programmable Ethernet cards exist and are easily available. However I have yet to be able to track down one of these mythical devices so I'm wondering if they're just that - a myth. Such a programmable card has a gigabit Ethernet interface, has a programmable CPU and connects to the host system via PCI Express. The problem area these cards address are low latency network applications where the card itself does the work and "reports back" to the operating system. Basically the card acts as a co-processor and handles all the low latency requirements on the card, thus avoiding the issues of writing low latency code in user-land - think 0.4ms - 0.5ms response times. So my question is, do these cards really exist and if so, where can I get my hands on one?

• Secure C# Assemblies from unauthorized Callers

  Is there any way to secure your assembly down to the class/property & class/method level to prevent the using/calling of them from another assembly that isn't signed by our company? I would like to do this without any requirements on strong naming (like using StrongNameIdentityPermission) and stick with how an assembly is signed. I really do not want to resort to using the InternalsVisibleTo attribute as that is not maintainable in a ever changing software ecosystem. For example: Scenario One Foo.dll is signed by my company and Bar.dll is not signed at all. Foo has Class A Bar has Class B Class A has public method GetSomething() Class B tries to call Foo.A.GetSomething() and is rejected Rejected can be an exception or being ignored in someway Scenario Two Foo.dll is signed by my company and Moo.dll is also signed by my company.   I'm currently designing a e-commerce solution. One of the primary requirements is for the store to support localized item details. The same store must be able to support multiple languages via the user's language selection and/or browser preference. I have two tables: Item (id, sku, price, ...) ItemDetails (item_id, language, title, ...) For each Item, there will be multiple rows corresponding to the item, where the (item_id,language) pair will be unique. I would like to model this as: class Item { public string sku; public double price; public ItemDetails Details; } Based on the user's session, I would like the items returned to have the Details object corresponds to the user's selected language (from their session). What are some approaches for representing this?

• Getting age from an encrypted DOB field

  Hi all Due to certain compliance requirements, we have to encrypt the user DOB field in the database. We also have another requirement to be able to search a user by his age. Our DB doesn't support transparent encryption so encryption will handled by the application. Any good ideas on how to allow for searching by age? One thought is to save the YOB in a separate column in cleartext and still be able to comply to our compliance requirement. Aside from that, any other design strategy that would help?   I'm currently using a Spring RmiProxyFactoryBean to access remote services. Since requirements have changed, I need to specify at runtime a different host - there can be many of them - , but the remoteServiceInterface and the non-host components of the remoteServiceUrl remain the same. Conceptually speaking, I'd see a bean definition similar to: <bean class="org.springframework.remoting.rmi.RmiProxyFactoryBeanFactory"> <property name="serviceInterface" value="xxx"/> <property name="serviceUrl" value="rmi://#{HOST}:1099/ServiceUrl"/> </bean> which exposes a Object getServiceFor(String hostName); Is there such a service available with Spring? Alternatively, do you see another way of doing this? Please note that the host list will not be known at compile or startup time, so I can't generate it in the xml file.

• What's the best way to test MSSQL connection programmatically?

  I need to develop a single routine that will be fired each 5 minutes to check if a list of MSSQL servers (10 to 12) are up and running. I can try to obtain a simple query in each one of the servers but this means that I have to create a table, view or stored procedure in every server, even if I use any already made SP I need to have a registered user in each server too. The servers are not in the same phisical location so having those requirements would be a complex task. Is there a way to simply "ping" from c# one MSSQL server? Thanks in advance!

  I'm making a little java game in which I would have two threads (well as the FIRST step towards multithreading...), one for the logic and one for the drawing. So my question is: How can I make those two communicating which each other? Requirements: accessing variables and object from a another thread syncing them so they each complete a same number of "loops" in the same time. (the logic calculates and then the another one draws the results and the loop begins again...) So how is this achievable in java? Thanks in advance!

  I want to build a site where people can create their personal websites quickly. All their websites will be hosted on my single web application (i.e. there will be only one database which contains info of all the websites). Each person will have an account where he can customize his website (template, content etc.). They can access their website from .mysite.com or mysite.com/xyz. I should be able to add different modules frequently, which will immediately reflect in all the websites created through my site. Based on the above requirements, please suggest me if there are any frameworks to use which can ease my job. Also suggest me which language to use (php or java). Which one would be better.

• Good ACL implementation in Java

  Hi All. I'm implementing a web based document management system and I'd like to implement ACLs in my system. My formal requirements are hierarchal permissions (documents inherit permissions from their folders) user groups (users can dynamically create groups and associate users with groups). Such groups can have permissions on objects in the system. My code will query permission on objects in two cases: 1. Manipulating a single document 2. Listing all documents where a manipulation is possible The latter requirement seems the achilles heel for Spring Security ACLs (their method seems likely to incur multiple DB hits for each document I manage) Anyone know of another ACL implementation? • Build common interface for two applications(one is in .asp, other in java)

  We have two applications. One application in .asp and second application in java. we want to build interface for universal authentication, so that one can access the other application once signed into one application. Both applications are using SQL database, but one is written in .ASP hosted on Windows server while the other is in JAVA hosted on a Linux server. The applications are currently resided on two different servers. requirements: 1)The end user are most likely to access the applications through .ASP first, then reach the 2nd application more like "back office" management system. 2)he JAVA application currently works well with IE web browser, but not very smooth with other browsers such as Firefox. The usual requirements for such a class are that it should be startable, stopable and restartable. • How do I guarantee row uniqueness in MySQL without the use of a UNIQUE constraint?

  Hi I have some fairly simple requirements but I'm not sure how I implement them: I have multiple concurrent threads running the same query The query supplies a 'string' value - if it exists in the table, the query should return the id of the matching row, if not the query should insert the 'string' value and return the last inserted id The 'string' column is (and must be) a text column (it's bigger than varchar 255) so I cannot set it as unique - uniqueness must be enforced through the access mechanism The query needs to be in stored procedure format (which doesnt support table locks in MySQL) How can I guarantee that 'string' is unique? How can I prevent other threads writing to the table after another thread has read it and found no matching 'string' item? Thanks for any advice..

• How to Create a Virtual Windows Drive

  Hello, I'm trying to create a Windows Virtual Drive ( like c:\ ) to map a remote storage. The main purpose is to do it in a clear way to the user. Therefore the user wouldn't know that he is writing/reading from another site. I was searching for available products, and i find that FUSE is not an option in Windows and WebDAV maps directly the drive, and i would like to build a middle layer between windows and remote storage to implement some kind of services. Another alternatives exists, such as Dokan, that is very expensive, and System.IO.IsolatedStorage Namespace, that doesn't seem to explicity create a new Windows Drive. Probably pismo ( http://www.pismotechnic.com/ ) is the thing that mostly matches my requirements but I would know if there is another alternative, including some Windows ( C++ or .NET ) native API to do that. The maps should be stored on the device/memory card so no Internet-connection is required There should be some way to interact with the application "through code"; sending route requests, getting current location perhaps, bringing app to foreground/background, etc. An API so it can be controlled from another application. No monthly fees The only one I found so far to match the above is Sygic Navigation. However, I havent yet been able to communication with the app even though they say that it can be done.   So far I have: int SimplifyText(char chars[], int length) { //To lower for(int i=0; i<length; i++) { chars[i] = tolower(chars[i]); } This function simplifies the text in the first argument which is an array containing the number of characters as given in the second argument The requirements are: tolower all remove all non-alpha characters replace multiple whitespace by one blank. Any leading whitespace at the beginning of the array should be removed completely. The resulting number of characters should be returned as the value of the function. And the annoying part: Another array cannot appear in the function Cannot use strings, only char arrays. Cannot using G++'s extension for setting an array size using a variable. Oh and can't use regex :) I'm stuck with this, any help would be great. :)

To be more precisely, my requirements are the following: the toolbar should consist of iconic and textual buttons and dropdown widgets buttons should either trigger actions directly or open submenus buttons and submenus should have the ability to remember the last selected state buttonsets should group multiple buttons and only allow one of them to be active In short words, I'm looking for a real toolbar in jquery and not for some modified site menu. I experimented with the button/buttonset/menu widget in jquery ui 1.9m2, but found its IE performance rather poor. It also felt awkward to combine these isolated widgets into a logically connected toolbar. Does anyone know of a better jquery toolbar plugin?

  Our product utilizes (the wonderful) Winpcap to capture ip packets from all devices with an IP address and analyze them in real time. Unfortunately, we discovered that it does NOT capture any packets on dialup (e.g. PPP) connections on Windows 7, and that there are no near-term plans for enabling this (1). So we need something else. Microsoft Network Monitor and Windows Packet Filter are two options that surfaced during a bit of googling, but before delving into research I wanted to ask the experienced: what are out options, given the following requirements: Capture all in/outbound IP packets on the machine.   I need to ask if any of you has any knowledge of creating file thumbnails on the fly. I have found a free component but it works only for PDF files, PDFThumbnailer. But my requirement is to convert DOC/RTF/PDF/XLS files to thumbnails on the fly, and if possible allow to save it as an image for later reference which currently PDFThumbnailer doesnt allow. PDFThumbnailer takes the pdf file and renders an image for it on browser, if that image can also be saved somehow to my machine that would be great too. Please guide me of how to achieve the above requirements. Any help for any filetype is appreciated. Thanks Imdadhusen
