• Define the base class or base functionality of a dynamic proxy (e.g. Castle, LinFu)

  Hi, I've asked this in the NHibernate forumns but I think this is more of a general question. NHibernate uses proxy generators (e.g. Castle) to create its proxy. What I'd like to do is to extend the proxy generated so that it implements some of my own custom behaviour (i.e. a comparer). I need this because the following standard .NET behaviour fails to produce the correct results: //object AC is a concrete class collection.Contains(AC) = true //object AP is a proxy with the SAME id and therefore represents the same instance as concrete AC collection.Contains(AP) = false If my comparer was implemented by AP (i.e. do id's match) then collection.Contains(AP) would return true, as I'd expect if proxies were implicit. (NB: For those who say NH inherits from your base class, then yes it does, but NH can also inherit from an interface - which is what we're doing) I'm not at all sure this is possible or where to start. Is this something that can be done in any of the common proxy generators that NH uses?

  I'm trying to use member variables of a templated base class in a derived class, as in this example: template <class dtype> struct A { int x; }; template <class dtype> struct B : public A<dtype> { void test() { int id1 = this->x; // always works int id2 = A<dtype>::x; // always works int id3 = B::x; // always works int id4 = x; // fails in gcc & clang, works in icc and xlc } }; gcc and clang are both very picky about using this variable, and require either an explicit scope or the explicit use of "this". With some other compilers (xlc and icc), things work as I would expect. Is this a case of xlc and icc allowing code that's not standard, or a bug in gcc and clang?

• Get absolute (base) url in sinatra.

  Right now, I do a get '/' do set :base_url, "#{request.env['rack.url_scheme']}://#{request.env['HTTP_HOST']}" # ... haml :index end to be able to use options.base_url in the HAML index.haml. But I am sure there is a far better, DRY, way of doing this. Yet I cannot see, nor find it. (I am new to Sinatra :)) Somehow, outside of get, I don't have request.env available, or so it seems. So putting it in an include did not work. How do you get your base url?

• how to prevent myControl.g.cs from overwriting with wrong base class

  I've got two custom cursors for my app, MyCursor and MyOtherCursor, both of which were designed in xaml, and I added some behaviour in the xaml.cs for each of them. This behaviour was the same for both so I had them inherit from a base class to reduce code duplication. public partial class myCursor: CursorBase { public InterchangeCursor() { InitializeComponent(); } } public class CursorBase : UserControl { public virtual void MoveTo(Point pt) { this.SetValue(Canvas.LeftProperty, pt.X); this.SetValue(Canvas.TopProperty, pt.Y); } } my problem is that if I change something in the xaml for MyCursor, the MyCursor.g.cs file is regenerated, and instead of inheriting from CursorBase, the partial class in the g.cs inherits from System.Windows.Controls.UserControl. Since the other side of the partial class in the xaml.cs file still inherits CursorBase, a build error occurs. I'm finding it annoying fixing the g.cs file each time. Does anyone know how to prevent this happening?

  Is it possible to map two classes to the same property without them sharing a common base class? For example, a situation like this: class Rule { public virtual int SequenceNumber { get; set; } public virtual ICondition Condition { get; set; } } interface ICondition { } class ExpressionCondition : ICondition { public virtual string Expression { get; set; } } class ThresholdCondition : ICondition { public virtual int Threshold { get; set; } } I also cannot add some empty abstract class that both conditions inherit from because the two ICondition implementations exist in different domains that are not allowed to reference each other. (Please no responses telling me that this situation should not occur in the first place - I'm aware of it and it doesn't help me.)

• Trace large C++ code base?

  Problem: I have just inherited this 200K LOC source code base. There's only a small part of it I need (and I want to rip all else out). What I would like to do is to be able to: 1) run the program a few times 2) have something (here's where you come in) record which lines of code gets executed 3) then rip out all the irrelevant lines of code I realize this has "problems" in the forms of "different args will take different paths"; but for my needs, it's very specific, and I just want something ot get me started on the right line of for ripping stuff out (I'll fine tune those special cases later).   I'm running a Postgresql query and getting the following error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid (PGError: ERROR: could not open segment 1 of relation base/20983/24161 (target block 5046584): No such file or directory The query is of the format 'SELECT "locations".* FROM "locations" WHERE ("locations"."id" IN (115990, 78330, 77891, 78248, ...)' with about 600 ids in the IN clause - not an optimal query I know but it's what I have to work with for the moment! The server is running PostgreSQL 8.4.6 on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, compiled by GCC gcc-4.4.real (Ubuntu 4.4.1-4ubuntu9) 4.4.1, 64-bit. Postgis 1.5 is also installed, and the locations table contains a geometry column. Anyone have any idea what could be causing the error? Thanks!

  Lets assume we have the following code: abstract class Base1 { protected int num; } class Der1:Base1 { protected Color color; protected string name; } class Der2:Base1 { protected DateTime dthen; } and so on. An array of base1 type exists and includes many objects created out of classes that are derived from base1. Is it possible to define the toString() method in the base class only? something like: public override string toString() { if (this is Der1) return "num = " + this.num + "color = " + this.color.toString() + " name = " this.name; if (this is Der2) return "num = " + this.num + "dthen = " + this.dthen.toString(); // and so on ... } Thank you very much :) P.S.   Hi All, I've been scratching my head here for a while now... I have a Consumer class and a BillableConsumer class that inherits Consumer. They are both a part of the Consumers set. The problem is that this following query: Consumer consumer = (from c in _ctx.Consumers where c.ID = id select c).First(); returns a BillableConsumer instance! Just the same as this query: BillableConsumer bconsumer = (from c in _ctx.Consumers.OfType<BillableConsumer>() where c.ID = id select c).First(); How can I return an instance of just the base class? (these are separate tables in the data store).

  É muito, muito cedo para ser realmente útil mas é bem promissor.Todo mundo que já trabalhou com JavaScript em aplicações que fazem realmente uso de JavaScript (não estou falando aqui de validação de formulário, ok?) sabe o quanto é difícil para uma pessoa, quiçá um time inteiro, dar manutenção nele conforme ele vai crescendo. Piora muito quando o nível de conhecimento de JavaScript que as pessoas da equipe têm varia muito e todos têm que meter a mão, eventualmente.Imagine a quantidade de JavaScript que existe por trás destas aplicações que rodam no browser tal como um Google Maps ou um Gmail ou um Outlook? É insano.
