• How to create a web framework in C# without ASPX?

  I've managed to get a C# asp page running under ubuntu/apache/mono, but I don't want to write my framework in these ASP pages, I want to use straight C# and then I'll use a templating language for my views. But I don't know where to begin? C# is a compiled language, so... how would I do this? Would I compile everything and then have apache hook into the (single) executable and pass in the the request URL? Could I request specific .cs pages and then have apache tell it to compile and then "display" it only if it's been updated? Can the "view" files be compiled individually to avoid having to recompile everything every time there's a change? Is there some "base" I can work from, or am I going to have to reinvent accessing GET and POST variables (by reading header info) and all sorts of other stuff we take for granted in languages like PHP?

  Hi All, I am trying to acquaint myself on Mysql syntax. I only have used MSSQL so far. • How to Package and Deploy Eclipse Java Application

  Before I begin, I'm new to eclipse, please keep that in mind when replying. :) Here is the situation, I have built an java application that has some dependencies (~10 of them). I would like to easily package this application up and deploy it as a single file to a CD or usb drive. My question is there doesn't seem to be any "nice" wizard to search the project, grab the dependencies and setup the classpath on the target computer. Seems to me I have to do this manually. Is there a better way. Something simple, easy and straight forward. A link to a tutorial on this would be great. Seems to me that this should be a built-in feature to eclipse. Deployment of a web application seems easy enough, but not a java application. Thanks!

I read over this article, but I got bogged down in some details that I didn't understand right away. If you've used scalar functions with NHibernate, could you possibly give me an example of how your HBM file would look for a function like this?

  I'm trying to write a SQL Server database update script. I want to test for the existence of a column in a table, then if it doesn't exist add the column with a default value, and finally update that column based on the current value of a different column in the same table. I want this script to be runnable multiple times, the first time updating the table and on subsequent runs the script should be ignored. My script currently looks like the following: IF NOT EXISTS(SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'PurchaseOrder' AND COLUMN_NAME = 'IsDownloadable') BEGIN ALTER TABLE [dbo].[PurchaseOrder] ADD [IsDownloadable] bit NOT NULL DEFAULT 0 UPDATE [dbo].[PurchaseOrder] SET [IsDownloadable] = 1 WHERE [Ref] IS NOT NULL END SQL Server returns error "Invalid column name 'IsDownloadable'", i.e. I need to commit the DDL before I can update the column. • MySQL Trigger creation

  I have an application where I need to INSERT an auto_increment value from a PK in another table. I know how to do this in PHP, but I need to have this done at the DB level, since I cannot change the program logic. I am new to triggers, so I'm sure this will be an easy answer for someone. Here is what I have so far: DELIMITER // CREATE TRIGGER new_project AFTER INSERT ON m_quality_header FOR EACH ROW BEGIN INSERT INTO m_quality_detail (d_matl_qa_ID) VALUES (NEW.h_matl_qa_ID); END// DELIMITER ; I just want the value of the auto_increment value from h_matl_qa_ID to be inserted as a new record into d_matl_qa_ID. The error I get is: "This version of MySQL doesn't yet support 'multiple triggers with the same action time and event for one table' But, I don't want to update the table that has the trigger, so why is my current code considered a 'multiple' trigger? This is on MySQL 5.0.45-7.el5 running on a CentOS 5 server (64-bit Intel) If I have to, I can modify the PHP code, but that needs to be the last resort.

  Hi, I'm looking to create an audit trail for my PHP web app's database (eg. capture inserts, updates, deletes). MySQL triggers seem to be just the thing -- but how do I capture the IP address and the web username (as opposed to the mysql username, localhost) of the user who invoked the trigger? • Mac OS X Development.

  Hi All, I would love to begin developing applications for the MAC OS X, although I have to idea where to start. Problem: I currently do not, and cannot afford a new MAC OS X-based computer. Solution: A very good friend loves trying out things that I've made for Windows, and also owns a MAC OS X computer, and is willing to test these new creations. Now I am faced with another problem. I don't know which language to use to develop these apps in. I am a .NET Developer and seeing as though I can only use a Windows based PC to develop MAC apps, where should I start? I've heard of Mono, and have used it on Linux before, would Mono be an option for MAC development on a Windows based computer, too? Are there any other ways around this?   I needed to write a script to enter multi-line input to a program (psql) After a big of googling, I found the following syntax works: cat << EOF | psql ---params BEGIN; `pg_dump ----something` update table .... statement ...; END; EOF This correctly concatenates all these strings and passes the result as an input to psql. but I have no idea how/why it works, can some one please explain? I'm referring mainly to cat << EOF, I know > outputs to a file, >> appends to a file, < reads input from file. What does << exactly do? And is there a man page for it?

• NullPointerException with CallableStatement.getResultSet()

  Hello, I have a stored proc in SQL Server 2005, which looks like the following (simplified) CREATE PROCEDURE FOO @PARAMS AS BEGIN -- STEP 1: POPULATE tmp_table DECLARE @tmp_table TABLE (...) INSERT INTO @tmp_table SELECT * FROM BAR -- STEP 2: USE @tmp_table FOR FINAL SELECT SELECT abc, pqr FROM BAZ JOIN @tmp_table ON some_criteria END When I run this proc from SQL Server Management Studio, things work fine. However, when I call the same proc from a Java program, using something like: cs = connection.prepareCall("exec proc ?,"); cs.setParam(...); rs = cs.getResultSet(); // BOOM - Null! while(rs.next()) {...} // NPE! I fail to understand why the first result set returned is NULL. Can someone explain this to me? As a workaround, if I check cs.getMoreResults() and if true, try another getResultSet() - THIS time it returns the proper result set. Any pointers please? • Onpaint events (invalidated) changing execution order after a period normal operation (runtime)

  I have 3 data graphs that are painted via the their paint events. When I have data that I need to insert into the graph I call the controls invalidate() command. The first control's paint event actually creates a bitmap buffer for the other 2 graphs to avoid repeating a long loop. So the invalidate commands are in a specific order (1,2,3). This works well, however when the graphed data reaches the end of the graph window (PictureBox) where the data would normally start scrolling, the paint events begin firing in the wrong order (2,3,1). has anyone came across this before? why might this be happening?

• What file format contents starts with "URES"?

  I have a number of files that contain data in a format I am not familiar with. All of the data files begin with the same byte sequence, presumably a file header, and the sequence is "URES". I'm assuming that these files are some kind of resource file, perhaps a collection of data or other files all embedded into one file; that's just a guess however. Does anyone know what format this is/might be? If so, how would I interrogate the file? Are there applications that let me open these kind of files? Do you know of any libraries or APIs that I can use to gain programmatic access the data?

• Young people using Emacs?

  I am a college student that has fallen in love with Emacs. I have used IDEs in the past, and although features like Intellisense made the switch to Emacs very hard, I now think that Emacs is much more powerful, and features like Intellisense can be pretty closely matched by various modes depending on language (and I am not referring to M-/). I am happily writing Elisp code for everything that I need that isn't provided by modes or by Emacs itself and I love the way that it adapts and molds to my needs. However, I do think that its main disadvantage is the fact that it has a pretty steep learning curve and that most new programmers will not even begin to learn it out of many common misconceptions. So, I want to know the opinions of young people (or any person who didn't start using Emacs before there were IDEs) that are Emacs users. Just to get some reassurance that Emacs is not dead within our Eclipse-loving generation =). (Opinions of users of any other highly extensible editor like Jedit are also welcome)

It would need to be saved in the Documents folder of the app. I have seen the URLCache example that apple presented, but I didn't find it useful since it was an image that was being shown. In addition there was some complex code on the modification date. I actually need something when the application opens it will begin the download process. • Objective-C @class / import best practice

  I've noticed that a lot of Objective-C examples will forward declare classes with @class, then actually import the class in the .m file with an import. I understand that this is considered a best practice, as explained in answers to question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/322597/objective-c-class-vs-import Coming from C++ this feels backwards. I would normally include all needed .h files in the new classes header file. This seems useful since it would make the compiler generate a warning when two classes include each other, at which point I can decide whether this is a bad thing or not then use the same Objective-C style and forward declare the class in the header and include it in the .cpp file. What is the benefit of forward declaring @class and importing in the implementation file? Should it be a best practice in C++ to forward declare classes rather than including the header file? Or is it wrong to think of Objective-C and C++ in these similar terms to begin with?

• Hibernate vs JPA vs JDO - pros and cons of each?

  I'm familiar with ORM as a concept, and I've even used nHibernate several years ago for a .NET project; however, I haven't kept up with the topic of ORM in Java and haven't had a chance to use any of these tools. But, now I may have the chance to begin to use some ORM tools for one of our applications, in an attempt to move away from a series of legacy web services. I'm having a hard time telling the difference betweeen the JPA spec, what you get with the Hibernate library itself, and what JDO has to offer. So, I understand that this question is a bit open-ended, but I was hoping to get some opinions on: What are the pros and cons of each? Which would you suggest for a new project? Are there certain conditions when it would make sense to use one framework vs the other?

  To find an Assembly programmer is very hard to help me I'm a established Delphi programmer that has an old copy of Delphi that is not .net And I have a *.dll that I'm converting into Delphi code for .net I'm on a big learning curve hear as i know little of .net yet. I've just got a computer with .net today!!!!!! I've run the *.dll through a dissembler and started putting jump links in as writing in Delphi assembly you do not do any addressing, just reference links. The file has fixed string structures (i think C++) ASCII & ANSI strings 1/ I do not know how to identify how the code references these structures 2/ and I do not know were the functions begin and what shape they look like The code is free for any one to look at their is not many functions in it. but I have to email it as stack over flow will not allow me to display it. My herpers works fines when I put them in application's helpers path. • How to start a major iPhone app update in Xcode

  I have an app in the iPhone app store and have released several minor updates to it. I want to begin work on some major feature additions and reorganization, but don't want to lose the source code of my most recent version in case everything goes horribly wrong. Should I start a new Xcode project from scratch and copy my existing source in? If I do this will I be able to submit the build from this new project as an update or will Apple complain that the build comes from a different Xcode project? I've seen (but not used) Xcode's "Snapshots" and "Source Control" features - are these what I'm looking for? Any help or direction greatly appreciated.
