    I'm after a regex that puts spaces around each "-" in a string, eg. 02 jaguar-leopard, tiger-panther 08 would become 02 jaguar - leopard, tiger - panther 08 Note that if the "-" already has spaces around it, no changes are to be made, eg. 02 jaguar - leopard, tiger - panther 08 should not become 02 jaguar - leopard, tiger - panther 08 The number of hyphens are unknown in advance. Thanks for any ideas... Edit: I'm not actually using a language for this. I'm using Ant Renamer (a mass file renaming utility). There are two fields in the renamer GUI, "Expression" and "New name" to provide inputs.     What is a better way to program the following SQL: str_to_date( concat(convert(D.DAY, CHAR(2)), '-', convert(M.MONTH, CHAR(2)), '-', convert(M.YEAR, CHAR(4))), '%e-%m-%Y' ) as AMOUNT_DATE I want to convert the columns D.DAY, M.MONTH, and M.YEAR to a date field using MySQL. The above works, but seems much more complicated than it needs to be. (If there's an ANSI SQL way to do it, that would be even better.) Thank you!

There have been questions about this before on stackoverflow, but the last one was over a year ago (over 400 answers), which is where I got the products listed above.   • debugging c# silverlight projects from vb web application

    Hi, I have a problem whereby I cannot debug a c# silverlight application project that is hosted from within a visual basic web application. I add breakpoints to the main App constructor and the symbols are loaded ok but my breakpoints are never hit. I have concluded that it is a vb/c# interop problem as to test i did the following. Created a new c# web application project Added a c# silverlight application Added a new vb web application project Added references to the silverlight project from both web apps set a breakpoint in App.xaml.cs constructor if i run the c# webapp the break points are hit whereas if i run the vb webapp they are not. has anyone come across this before or can anyone suggest a solution please?   • mod_rewrite and relative urls

    I'm setting up some simple url rewriting rules using mod_rewrite and a .htacces file, but I've got some problems. If I set up the .htacces this way: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule /index.html /index.php [L] when I call from the browser this url: http://localhost/~dave/mySite/index.html I got a 404 error. Using this .htacces instead Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule /index.html http://localhost/~dave/mySite/index.php [L] everything works fine and I get the index.php page I'm expecting. Am I forced to user absolute urls as the target of a rewrite? Is this a Apache configuration problem? I'm using Max OS X 10.6.2 with its standard Apache installation.

    I'm using Hibernate 3.2.1.ga, hibernate annotations 3.2.1.ga, and hibernate-jpa-2.0-api. I can't upgrade at this time as I'm working with legacy code. I have this generic method for saving or updating objects ... protected void saveOrUpdate(Object obj) { final Session session = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession(); session.saveOrUpdate(obj); } You can assume that every argument, "obj," will have a member field that is marked with the "@Id" annotation. I would like to change the return type to return an Object that represents the persisted object in the database (meaning if "obj" didn't contain an id before, what is returned is the database object with a populated id. What is the fastest way to do this given my versioning and generic constraints?

  • How to sort an NSMutableArray of objects by a member of its class, that is an int or float

    I have a class (from NSObject) that contains: NSString name int position float speed I then create an array (NSMutableArray) of objects from this class. I would like to then sort the array by the 'speed' value, which is a float. I initially has the float value as an NSNumber and the int as NSInteger, and I was successfully sorting with: [myMutableArray sortUsingFunction:compareSelector context:@selector(position)]; where myMutableArray is my array of objects. here is the function: static int compareSelector(id p1, id p2, void *context) { SEL methodSelector = (SEL)context; id value1 = [p1 performSelector:methodSelector]; id value2 = [p2 performSelector:methodSelector]; return [value1 compare:value2]; } Now that I am using int instead of NSInteger, the above code does not work. Is there a more low-level command that I should be using to execute the sort? Thank!

  • Android/Eclipse: Creating multiple builds with different com identifiers.

    Hi, I have an app that requires two builds - one is a demo app, the other uses the same codebase but uses a flag to introduce different functionality. The identifier must be different each time (e.g. com.siteA.appA and com.siteB.appB). However it doesn't appear to be trivial to use the refactor functionality in Eclipse to change the com identifier - all references change apart from the "import com.siteA.appA.R" reference. Is there a way to create different builds with different com identifiers/app name within Eclipse? Thanks

  • Looking for alternatives to the database project.

    I've a fairly large database project which contains nine databases and one database with a fairly large schema. This project takes a large amount of time to build and I'm about to pull my hair out. We'd like to keep our database source controlled, but having a hard getting the other devs to use the project and build the database project before checking in just because it takes so long to build. It is seriously crippling our work so I'm look for alternatives. Maybe something can be done with Redgate's SQL Compare? I think maybe the only drawback here is that it doesn't validate syntax? Anyone's thoughts/suggestions would be most appreciated.

  • MediaWiki: how to hide users from the user list?

    I've set up Mediawiki 1.15.1 for a client who has added two users by mistake. They now want to hide these users from the user list. It seems this is done via the $wgGroupPermissions array with $wgGroupPermissions['suppress']['hideuser'] = true;, but it isn't at all clear what entry this needs for the hiding to work, or whether a new group ('hidden' or whatever) has to be created first with $wgAddGroups['bureaucrat'] = true;. For now, I've added the two users to be hidden to the 'Oversight' group which explains 'Block a username, hiding it from the public (hideuser)', but they still appear on the Special:ListUsers page. At a loss as to how the MediWiki arrays alter options displayed in the interface, so far I've added this to LocalSettings.php: $wgGroupPermissions['suppress']['hideuser'] = true; $wgAddGroups['supress'] = true; Or - since they haven't actually added anything to the wiki - could they simply be removed from the MySQL users table - although MediaWiki warns against this? Has anyone else done this successfully? Update - this is a hole in MediaWiki admin (although there are workarounds). See this thread on MediaWIki Users and the note to the reply below.

  • In AS3/Flex, how can I get from flat data to hierarchical data?

    I have some data that gets pulled out of a database and mapped to an arraycollection. This data has a field called parentid, and I would like to map the data into a new arraycollection with hierarchical information to then feed to an advanced data grid. I think I'm basically trying to take the parent object, add a new property/field/variable of type ArrayCollection called children and then remove the child object from the original list and clone it into the children array?   • Multiple plugin instance loading with MEF

    In my last application, using MEF to load plugins went just fine, but now I'm running into a new issue. I have a solution for it that I explain at the end of this question, but I'm looking for other ways to do it. Let's say I have an interface called ApplianceInterface. I also have two plugins that inherit from ApplianceInterface, let's call them Blender and Processor. Now, I would like to have multiple Blenders and Processors in my application, but I am not sure how to instantiate them properly. Before, I would simply use the ImportMany attribute and upon calling ComposeParts, my application would load Blender and Processor. For example: [ImportMany(typeof(ApplianceInterface))] private IEnumerable<ApplianceInterface> Appliances { get; set; } and my Blender and Processor plugins would be attributed like this: [PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.NonShared)] [Export(typeof(MyInterface)] public class Blender : ApplianceInterface { ... } but what this ends up doing for me is populating Appliances with one Blender and one Processor. I need to be able to create an arbitrary number of Blender and Processor objects. Now, from the documentation I understand that [PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.NonShared)] is what allows MEF to create a new instance each time, but is there a similar "magical" way to create a specific number of instances of something using MEF? Up until now, I've relied on [Import] and [ImportMany] to resolve the assemblies. Is my only option to use a global container, and then resolve the export manually using GetExportedValue<? I have tried GetExportedValue< and that implementation does work fine for me, but I was just curious if there is a better, more accepted way to do it.

  • c# Create a unique name with a GUID

    I am creating a back up solution. I doubt there is anything new in what I'm trying to achieve. Before copying the file I want to take a backup of the destination file in case anything becomes corrupt. This means renaming the file. I have to be careful when renaming in case the file already exists and adding a 01 to the end is not safe. My question is, based upon not finding the answer else where, would adding a GUID to the file name work. So, if my file was called file01.txt, renaming the file to file01.txtGUID (where GUID is the generated GUID), I could then perform my back up of that file (at this instance having 2 back ups) and then, after ensuring the file has copied (by comparing length of file to the source), delete the file with the GUID in the name. I know the GUID is not 100% guaranteed to be unique but would this suffice?

  • WPF app startup problems

    My brain is all over the map trying to fully understand Unity right now. So I decided to just dive in and start adding it in a branch to see where it takes me. Surprisingly enough (or maybe not), I am stuck just getting my darn Application to load properly. It seems like the right way to do this is to override OnStartup in App.cs. I've removed my StartupUri from App.xaml so it doesn't create my GUI XAML. My App.cs now looks something like this: public partial class App : Application { private IUnityContainer container { get; set; } protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e) { container = new UnityContainer(); GUI gui = new GUI(); gui.Show(); } protected override void OnExit(ExitEventArgs e) { container.Dispose(); base.OnExit(e); } } The problem is that nothing happens when I start the app! I put a breakpoint at the container assignment, and it never gets hit. What am I missing? App.xaml is currently set to ApplicationDefinition, but I'd expect this to work because some sample Unity + WPF code I'm looking at (from Codeplex) does the exact same thing, except that it works! I've also started the app by single-stepping, and it eventually hits the first line in App.xaml. When I step into this line, that's when the app just starts "running", but I don't see anything (and my breakpoint isn't hit). If I do the exact same thing in the sample application, stepping into App.xaml puts me right into OnStartup, which is what I'd expect to happen. Argh! Is it a Bad Thing to just put the Unity construction in my GUI's Window_Loaded event handler? Does it really need to be at the App level?

  • pitfalls with mixing storage engines in mysql with django?

    I'm running a django system over mysql in amazon's cloud, and the database default is innodb. But now I want to put a fulltext index on a couple of tables for searching, which evidently requires myisam. The obvious solution is to just tell mysql to ALTER TABLE to myisam, but are there going to be any issues with that? One that comes to mind is that I'll have to remember to do that any time I build a new version of the database, which should theoretically be rare, but there doesn't seem to be a way to tell django to please set the storage engine at the table level. I guess I could write a migration (we use south). Any other things I might be missing? What could possibly go wrong?
