• Custom forms in Sharepoint with MS SQL Server as Backend. Is it possible?

  We're evaluating using SharePoint 2010 as our project management tool. Specifically, the system needs to satisfy the following: Discussion groups Project management (simple issue tracking, no complex workflows or vcs integrations) News feed for the project(s) File sharing based on authorization/user-roles Custom homepage Custom forms using MS SQL Server as a backend and contents of old forms searchable from the user interface. Now, I think [1-5] is possible using SharePoint (Comments are always welcome :)). I'm not sure about [6]. Is it possible? For instance, can an admin or a user of the SharePoint portal, create a custom form (without any programming) that uses MS SQL Server as a backend and publish it to the portal so that other users can also perform data entry? If it can be done (be it with or without some programming), can users perform text search on form data using the SharePoint interface?

• When Logged out, one blog shows - logged in, all blogs show

  I've coded this Wordpress site but I'm finding difficulties with the blog area. Only one blog shows in the blog section but with I am logged in as an admin, I can see all the blogs on the page. I need it to show for everyone, whether they are logged in as a user or just a visitor to the website. I have attempted to see if it was a wordpress issue by checking the 'Settings Reading' settings and they are set just fine, showing to be 10 posts per page.. It could be something wrong with the loop.   how to copy files on esxi4 datastore (fs=vmfs) over network using console (SSH)? giving up older question:have seen on vmware forums that its not possible have a USB drive NTFS attached to ESXi4 host. fdisk -l shows the device as /dev/mpx.... but when i try to mount that using mount /dev/xxx /mnt/usbdisk....it fails with message "no such file or dir" could anyone help with correct entry in etc/fstab? all that i am trying to do is backup the vms on esxi host to usb disk...thanks in advance there is a dir called usbdrv, tried cp of vmdk file here but failed

• Lighttpd proxy module - use with hostname

  I have to proxy a site which is hosted on an external webspace through my lighty on example.org. My config so far: $HTTP["url"] =~ "^/webmail" { proxy.server = ("/webmail/" => ( # this entry should link to example2.org ("host" => "1.2.3.4", "port" => 80) )) } The webspace provider has configured my domain as vhost. So if i access http://1.2.3.4/webmail/ lighttpd will only deliver the main site of the webspace provider which says "Site example.org was not found on our server." Any suggestions how i have to configure lighty to proxy sites that are only hosted as vhost (and do not have an ip on their own)?

• Sony Vaio Hard Drive replacement won't boot

  I'm working on a Sony Vaio VGN-CR120e. I've cloned the original SATA 1.5 drive with Norton Ghost on to 2 new hard drives, the second of which is a Seagate 7200.4 320Gb 7200 RPM, with the jumper set to limit to SATA 1.5. (The first drive is a WD Scorpio Black 320Gb 7200RMP, which has no SATA 1.5 override support). Neither of the cloned drives will boot - I immediately get a BlackSOD saying: "Windows failed to start blah blah blah" "File \Windows\system32\winload.exe" "Status: 0xc000000e" "Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt." I've done this hundreds of times on other PC's, and this is the first time I've encountered such an error. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on how to proceeed, as I would rather not reinstall Vista unless absolutely necessary.

  Running RSH commands on a Windows box against a Linux box works only for the administrator user. Is there a file somewhere that has a list of users that can run commands remotely? More Info The server configuration is automated by VMware's product... There's no /etc/hosts.equiv file setup but there is a /root/.rhosts file with an entry of [IP ADDRESS] +. The SUA client C:\Windows\SUA\bin\rsh can login when run as the local administrator account but no other user can login. The error is: rcmd: unknown user: [username]. The command I'm trying to run is: rsh -l root [IP ADDRESS] ls.

  I have a problem with my freeradius server configuration. I want to be able to authenticate users against Windows ActiveDirectory (2008 R2) and the users file, because some of my co-workers are not listed in AD. We use the freeradius server to authenticate WLAN users. • Can't resolve localhost on Mac OS X Server

  I have a server running OS X Server 10.5 and it can't resolve localhost to 127.0.0.1. When I try ping this is what happens: ping localhost ping: cannot resolve localhost: Unknown host SSH and web browsers get similar results (uknown host). If I try using 127.0.0.1 or the ip address assigned on the LAN all of the above work. Here's the contents of my /etc/hosts file: cat /etc/hosts ## # Host Database # # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry. ## 127.0.0.1 localhost 255.255.255.255 broadcasthost ::1 localhost fe80::1%lo0 localhost I have no local DNS service running. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening or how I can fix it?

• Crontab script on Mac OS X Lion does not work anymore

  I have a problem with cron tasks. Previously this script worked fine on Mac OS X 10.6 server, but when I initialize it on Lion (client), this script stopped working. Basically, this .bat file calls a jar file (that invokes a loop of mysqldump commands) to backup several databases on several servers, and runs perfectly if launched by the shell. cd /Users/nameoftheuser/Desktop/backupper /usr/bin/java -cp .:Backupper.jar:lib/mail.jar backupper.Main "/Users/nameoftheuser/Desktop/backupper/listasiti.txt" "/Users/nameofthe/Desktop/backupper/config.properties But if the cron launches the same .bat file, the generated database backups are 0 bytes. The cron entry is: 0 0 sh /Users/path/to/file.bat I believe that the problem is that cron doesn't run as root. Or what else?

  I am trying to build a webservice that manipulates http requests POST and GET. Most online references show making a website, but really, all I want to do is respond when an HttpPost is sent. I don't know what to put in the website, just want that code to run. Edit: I am following this site as its exactly what I'm trying to do. I have the website set up, I have the code for the handler in a .cs file, i have edited the web.config to add the handler for the file extension I need. Now I am at the step 3 where you tell IIS about this extension and map it to ASP.NET. Also I am using IIS 7 so interface is slightly different than the screenshots. This is the problem I have: 1) Go to website 2) Go to handler mappings 3) Go Add Script Map 4) request path - put the extension I want to handle 5) Executable- it seems i am told to set aspnet_isapi.dll here. Maybe this is incorrect? 6) Give name 7) Hit OK button: Add Script Map Do you want to allow this ISAPI extension? Click "Yes" to add the extension with an "Allowed" entry to the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions list or to update an existing extension entry to "Allowed" in the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions list. Yes No Cancel 8) Hit Yes Add Script Map The specified module required by this handler is not in the modules list. If you are adding a script map handler mapping, the IsapiModule or the CgiModule must be in the modules list. OK edit 2: Have just figured out that that managed handler had something to do with handlers witten in managed code, script map was to help configuring an executable and module mapping to work with http Modules. So I should be using option 1 - Add Managed Handler. In the applications folder (in IIS) so far I just have the MyHandler.cs and web.config (Of course also a file with the extension I am trying to create the handler for!) edit3: progress So now I have the code and the web.config set up I test to see If I can browse to the filename.CustomExtension file: HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map. So in IIS7 I go to Handler Mappings and add it in. • Cannot uninstall Office Live Add-in 1.4 after installing Office 2010

  Last night I upgraded to Office 2010 RTM from MSDN. I'm now trying to uninstall the Office Live Add-in that I used with Office 2007 as this functionality is built in to Office 2010. When I run the uninstall from control panel I get the following message: Microsoft Office Live Add-in cannot be installed because you do not have the right version of Microsoft Office installed on your computer Google has pointed to 2 solutions, both of which are pretty useless: Use the MS Windows Installer Cleanup - this is not good because all it does is remove the Installer entry from the registry, leaving all the installed files behind Uninstall Office 2010, uninstall Add-in, reinstall Office 2010 - that is just rediculous, but typical MS response So, can I get this off my system without resorting to option 2?

• How can you connect OpenGrok to a SVN repository?

  I was able to install and use opengrok on WinXP using this blog entry http://theflashesofinsight.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/install-opengrok-on-windows/ I now want to index a subversion repository. I checked out a repository to the source folder and can search the files. However the links for history and annotate are not active. I have svn installed and indexing the directory give no warnings or errors. (There was an error when I didnt have the SVN client installed) Is there some configuration needed? I saw this link http://blogs.sun.com/trond/entry/using_subversion_with_opengrok but it did not give me any clue. • Perforce Restore From Multiple Checkpoint Files?

  Hi all, I am working with a very large (~11GB) checkpoint file and trying to do a -jr (journal restore) operation. About half way through the file, I'm hitting an entry which causes an error to occur. I'm unable to come up with a conventional way to print, edit, and save changes to the offending line. So right now I'm splitting the checkpoint into files of 500k lines each...up to 47 files and counting. My question is, once I have these separate files: Can I run journal restore on each one separately to check for errors? Once fixed, is it necessary to merge them back together again to do my full journal restore? Any other ideas on how to tackle this problem would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, -aj

• Squid traffic tunneled through VPN

  So what I'm trying to do is have a Squid Proxy run on 1 machine along side a VPN connection. What I want to happen is all traffic running though the Squad Proxy would run though the VPN for its outbound. ie Desktop - (Squid Proxy - VPN) The goal is to allow my desktop selective tunneling through the VPN. So that Instant Messaging and the like that do not need to run through the VPN can go through my normal traffic. Typically I would go though a SSH Proxy but currently am forced to use VPN to gain entry into the office, and a Squid proxy seemed like it might work out the easiest for what I am needing. EDIT Realize I forgot to actually state what problem I'm running into. I have the Squid setup and verified it works, but once I connect to the VPN. All requests to Squid get accepted but Squid is unable to make the request over the VPN. So the client ends up just sitting there.

• How to troubleshoot a GPF?

  I get a GPF dialog box out of the blue fairly often (like about 2 hours after I turn on the computer). It basically says that svchost.exe had a failure... (see the corresponding Event Log entry below). Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 5/18/2010 Time: 7:41:16 PM User: N/A Computer: DKHA-IPSA Description: Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0004eaa9. Shortly after this error pops up, the computer pretty much grinds to a halt (e.g. some UI elements on the desktop simply do not respond). And I have to do a hard reboot. How do I troubleshoot this type of thing? P.S. The PC has all the latest patches and nothing is missing in the Device Manager.

• IPFW not locking people out

  I've had some brute-forcing of my ssh connection recently, so I got fail2ban to hopefully prevent that. I set it up, and started testing it out by giving wrong passwords on my computer. (I have physical access to the server if I need to unblock myself) However, it never stops me from entering passwords. I see in /var/log/fail2ban.log that fail2ban kicked in and banned me, and there's a ipfw entry for my IP, but I'm not locked out. I've changed the configuration around, and then tried just using the ipfw command myself, but nothing seems to lock me out. I've tried the following blocks: 65300 deny tcp from 10.0.1.30 to any in 65400 deny ip from 10.0.1.30 to any 65500 deny tcp from 10.0.1.30 to any My firewall setup has a "allow ip from any to any" rule after these though, maybe that's the problem? I'm using Mac OS 10.6 (stock ipfw, it doesn't seem to have a --version flag) Thanks in advance.

• explorer.exe eating all CPU, how to to detect culprit?

  Windows 7 64bit. I am using ProcessExplorer from Sysinternals, and it says, that the offending call is ntdll.dll!RtlValidateHeap+0x170 however, the call stack towards the entry is always different, so it's hard for me to track the problem. Maybe it's a mal-programed trojan, causing exceptions in Explorer.exe, but that is only a wild speculation. Explorer.exe is then consuming 25% (a core on a dual core). Killing the process makes the task bar go away, respawning from task manager, and half a minute later it's again eating all CPU cycles.

• Software for failover across multiple external hosts

  I have multiple webservers with the same content, hosted across different providers. However, I can't seem to find a nice, simple failover solution. Load-balancing software (Pound, HAProxy, etc.) are unnecessary, and I need the flexibility to manage over 100+ domains, so the paid DNS failover solutions I've found are too expensive. So far the simplest solution I've thought of is just to set a very low TTL (30min - 1hr) in each zone entry on my nameservers (running BIND). Then, continuously monitor each server, and temporarily remove failed servers from zone entries. But this seems like something that should be currently available. I only have root access to different VPSes running CentOS. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  I am looking for a (linux) command line tool to parse HTML files and extract some elements, ideally with some XPath-like syntax. I have the following requirements: It must be able to parse arbitrary HTML files (which may contain errors) in a robust manner It must be able to extract text of elements and attributes What I have tried so far: xmlstarlet: would be perfect, but mostly reports errors in files (e.g. entity not defined), even xml fo or htmltidy does not help. xmllint: the best I have found so far, but is not able to extract attribute texts. Something like //a/@href reports <a href="foo">, what I need is just foo. string(//a/@href) works, but queries only the first entry. data is not supported. hxextract: works, but cannot extract attributes. XQilla: would support XPath 2.0 and thus data. It also support xqilla:parse-html, but I have had no luck making this work. Can you recommend me another tool?

• Problems with kickstart script, partition info crashes deployment

  Hi, Currently testing cobbler, but have problem with the kickstart script when the partition information is loaded. Here is my ks: http://pastebin.ca/1824343 I can't figure out what is the problem with the partsection at all. Without it, it works. I've even tried autopart. If the entry is removed, it works, but of course I have to provide the installer with partition information. Under the kickstart an python exception is raised. I get a Errno 2 No such file or directory. My Apache logs states: File does not exist: /var/www/cobbler/links/CentOS-5.3-x86_64/images/updates.img File does not exist: /var/www/cobbler/links/CentOS-5.3-x86_64/disc1 File does not exist: /var/www/cobbler/links/CentOS-5.3-x86_64/images/product.img But without the part information, no error occours. What am I not seeing? Cobbler 2.0.3, imported the CentOS 5.3 x86_64 DVD, PXE booting from a Xen guest.

• On Server Disk Storage VS SAN Storage

  Hello, I am looking at buying three servers, and trying to figure out which storage solution makes the most sense in terms of performance and cost. Total budget is around: $10,000. OPTION 1: Dell servers with RAID 10 (4 Drives) each 7200RPM SAS 500GB, for a total capacity of 1TB. Each server is approx: $3000. Total storage then across all three servers is 3TB. OPTION 2: Same Dell servers with a cheap single drive no RAID for $2000 and go with a centralized SAN solution. The biggest problem is that I haven't been able to even find a SAN solution that is a reasonable price. Dell entry level storage servers are like $15,000. I am thinking just iSCSI, not fiber (too expensive). What do you guys recommend?
