• Can ActionScript tell when a SWF was published?

  I'd like to write a little class that adds a Day/Month box showing the date a SWF was published from Flash. The company I work for regularly produces many, many SWFs and many versions of each, iterating over the course of months. A version-tracking system we've been using to communicate with our clients is a Day/Month date-box that gives the date the SWF was published. Up until now, we've been filling in the publish date by hand. If there's any way I can do this programatically with ActionScript that'd be fantastic. Any insight? Basically, all I need is the call that gives me the publish date, or even.. anything about the circumstances under which a SWF was published that I could use to roll into some form of.. automated version identification, unique to this SWF. So, can ActionScript tell when a SWF was published?

• SNMP from the browser

  There"s this idea of having a web app search for devices in the network (with elevated user permissions, of course). Checking the silverlight and flash APIs, there does not seem to be a way to do SNMP ( the UDP APIs are limited to multicasting media ). Anyone know a clever workaround? In windows, a small XBAP utility can do the SNMP stuff, but that leaves out the Mac OS X platform. Thanks for any ideas. ( I do have a SO account but I"m in a not so trustworthy public PC right now so I didn"t log in. )

• Actionscript 3 Navigate with Keyboard Between Labels

  Hello I need to navigate between labels with arrow keys like a power point presentation. I have an array with labels and a KeyboardEvent. My problem is, if I am in label number four for example and click in arrow click, always goes to first label. So I need help defining my current label to go to the next on key press. • How Do I Convert text to a WAV file With Inaudible Waveform?

  I am trying to create an audio watermarking system. I figure the best solution is to create an audio file (WAV) based on a unique string of text and then combine this with the original wav. The part that makes this tricky (for me anyway) is: How do I convert the text string to a wav? How do I ensure that the resulting WAV form is inaudible (or at least barely noticeable to the listener). I would prefer this be done server side (via PHP, etc) but if the processing load isn't too much then would be ok with something in Flash or Javascript. I'd be willing to pay someone to create me a workable solution (complete source code that functions as described). Thanks, Scott!

• Programming language for web

  I haven't programmed in a while, and have kind of lost interest, but I want to get back, and I've enjoyed C# the most, a lot more than objective-c and visual basic. So I want to make some games that me and my friends will be able to play next school year. So basically something you can play on the web. What programming languages deploy to the web? If c# is possible, and a mac with safari/firefox would be able to use it (I can't install plugins, and I don't want to get in trouble for making myself admin again) Flash, Java, etc. If java does, I'd like that most since it's most like c#. Then what libraries/engines would I use? I want to do 2d. And then what IDE would I use? Thanks in advance!

From time to time I need to show dialog pop-up window to get a user response back (e.g. "Cancel", "OK" and other kinds of asynchronous user feedback) while "locking" the background for interactivity. I need some management for my pop-ups: all pop-up notifications should be stacked up, so that if two (or more) pop-up messages are initiated at the same time I show them one by one. • Why does the "choose files" button not work in Wordpress 2.5 when trying to upload photos?

  I've got Wordpress 2.5 installed on my website. It works well, but I can't get the photo uploader to work. When I'm writing a post, I click on the "Add media" button. In the "Choose File" tab, I see the "Choose files to upload" button. When I click on it, nothing happens. I searched the net and found nothing helpful. One page vaguely mentioned having the latest Flash player. I verified and confirmed that I have the latest player. Any ideas?

• Portable way to determining of printer is physical or virtual

  I need direct-to-printer functionality for my website, with the ability to distinguish a physical printer from a virtual printer (file). Coupons.com has this functionality via a native binary which must be installed by the user. I'd prefer to avoid that. SmartSource.com does it via Java applet: Does anybody know how this is done? I dug through that Java APIs a bit, and don't see anything that would let you determine physical vs virtual, except looking at the name (that seems prone to misidentification). It would be nice to be able to do it in Java, because I already know how to write Java applets. Failing that, is there a way to do this in Flash or Silverlight? Thanks in advance. • RST packet sent by the server

  I am developing a client in Flash and using http req/resp to communicate with the server. For a while the session works fine and then the connection is terminated by the server. I did a wireshark sniff at the server and the last message which it sends is a RST packet. Also it happens only when I'm using IE and the server and client are in different domains. This does not happen in FireFox. I have been struggling to find a sol, till I found this thread. It's a bit old but I hope I could get some help. I am not sure if this bit of info is important but I am connecting to the server via a gateway. Any clue or suggestions for where should I look into to locate the problem ?

• Setting instance names on keyframes quickly in AS3

  Right now in Flash CS3 and up (using Actionscript 3) if you have the same instance that is used in multiple keyframes in a layer, and you decide to assign or change the instance name later, you would have to go to each keyframe and set the instance name. This is a big nuisance. Is there a quicker or better way to do this? NOTE: In AS2, you can set the name by using name property of the MovieClip in your code in the onLoad handler of the MovieClip class so it's done once and for all. Unfortunately in AS3, you are not allowed to set the name property anymore.

  Is there a way I could insert some code into a page that would take a screenshot of what the user sees in the browser window, then upload that image via a web form of some sort? I'm working on a clone of a pay-to-use service that lets you install a widget on a web page which in turn allows viewers to report bugs in the sites layout. Currently they use a Java applet to take the screenshot, which, in my opinion, is probably the worst way to go about it (aside from requiring the user to install a plugin) Is there a javascript/flash/other alternative? • Coldfusion returning typed objects / AMF remoting

  Is the same possible in ColdFusion? Currently I am using .Net/Fluorine to return objects to the client. Whilst in testing I like to pass strings representing the select statement and the custom object I wish to have returned from my service. Fluorine has a class ASObject to which you can set the var 'typeName'; which works great. I am hoping that this is possible in Coldfusion. Does anyone know whether you can set the type of the returned object in a similar way. • Context menu not firing when clicking on a line in a MovieClip

  Question: In Flash AS3, I have a furniture movieclip (converted from CAD) in another movieclip [to crop the border]. My first problem was that it didn't fire onclick at all. So I had to draw a background, and it started working when I did not click on a CAD drawing line. Then I checked mousevent.target for classname, and if it was not CustomMovieClip, I took object.parent.parent. That worked for onclick. But now I seem to have a similar problem with the contextmenu. When I right-click anywhere, I get the contextmenu, but the context menu event-handler doesn't fire if I right-clicked on a CAD line (but it works if I right-click on the background)... The problem now is it doesn't fire, so I can't take target.parent.parent.

• How to build a Video Broadcaster, which can handle more than 20,000 viewers

  I want to broadcast Video from a web cam, over internet. The problem is, the Video will be viewed live by more than 20,000 people (expected). I have a very little experience with Red5 Broadcasting. I did some broadcasting using Red5 and Flash. It works fine for 1 or 2 viewers i.e. it is great for personal chatting/ video conferencing applications. But, when the number of viewers increases, the delay in Broadcasting also increases. I am experiencing a Delay addition of about 0.5 Seconds for every new user who joins the broadcast. Can any one suggest me some, better technologies on which I can work out this Live Broadcasting. I don't want to use http://www.ustream.com; I want to create one of my own, such tool. But thats always the last solution.

Beside this project, based on some red5 samples, I have an application (done with Flex) that sends audio: rtmp://server/sendAudio (very basic but works). I want to create for each subscribed on my website an admin part where can send an audio stream: http://admin.example.com/foobar. And, when someone goes on their public profile, they can listen to the streamed audio: http://www.example.com/foobar/profile). • Dang Error #1009 !

  I'm building a simple flash site for a friend who has a spa. I keep getting this error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at spa7_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() through the process of commenting out code, i've narrowed down to my link section: vox_link.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,gotoVox); function gotoVox(evtObj:Event):void { var voxSite:URLRequest=new URLRequest("http://www.voxmundiproject.com"); navigateToURL(voxSite, "_blank"); } With this section commented out, i don't get the 1009 error. When the code is active, I get the error. My code syntax is correct so I'm stumped. Does someone have an idea what my be wrong? Thanks!

• Not getting stage.stageWidth and stageHeight on Firefox 3.5

  Here's a problem that I've been tried to figure out but still couldn't get the right method to fix it yet. I'm having issue regarding the display when using Firefox 3.5 on MAC, I can see my menu and the display is correct. The menu just position above what it supposed to be positioned. It works fine with Safari on MACOSX. My flash size is: 1440x750 It looks like Firefox can't recognize stage.StageWidth and stage.StageHeight. It returns 0. Some suggest implementing was to pass in the actual width and height of movie via FlashVars. The movie uses these instead of stage.stageWidth and stage.stageHeight Does anyone have an example of code of how to fix that issue?? Appreciated to point me out the right way

• Get ExternalInterface definitions in Javascript

  Is there a way to get a list of the exposed functions from a Flash object? For example, you could get a list of all methods in an object by executing: for (var i in object) { if (typeof object[i] == "function") { console.log(i); } } The only issue is that this won't expose any methods registered through the ExternalInterfaces API. I can try and see if the function exists (object['method']) and it tells me it is a function, but I would have to guess every existing method in this manner. NOTE: Obviously, I don't have access to the actionscript.

• ActionScript 2.0 problem with the object's _visible parameter

  Hey guys, I've been trying to build something simple in Flash 8, and I stumbled across something weird I cannot explain: I have an object, and at some point of the program, I want it to be visible (it is invisible at first), so I write: _root.myObj._visible = true; _root.gameOver.swapDepths(_root.getNextHighestDepth()); //so it will be on the top and this works fine, the object becomes visible and etc. What I planned to happen next is that the user presses a button on that same object, and the object will go invisible: on(release) { trace(_root.myObj._visible); _root.myObj._visible = false; trace(_root.myObj._visible); _root.gotoAndPlay("three"); } The trace returns at first true and later on false, so the command works, but oddly the object stays visible, that's what I don't understand. • Determine IP# of domain from client browser

  Greetings all, I would very much like to determine the IP# of a domain from client script. It's for use in a testing application to determine whether or not a certain domain is set to a QA address as opposed to the address live on the . The testing machine will have it's host file set to resolve a domain to the QA address. Pinging from the server won't help since the server is getting the public DNS address. Is this possible in JavaScript? Maybe a Flash could do the trick?

• Silverlight Video Player that plays .MP4 & .FLV

  I am currently using the Silverlight 2 Video Player to stream videos. I have been very pleased with it but it only seems to stream .WMV files. Does anyone know if there is a good Silverlight video player that will stream other types of video files, especially .MP4 & .FLV? I would be happy to use Silverlight 3 if necessary. EDIT: Because I like this player and have not found a great option, I am considering encoding files as I receive them so that they will always be streamed later as a .WMV. Unless I determine a good player (I am considering flash at this point), I will have to go down this road.

  Hi, i'm using loadmovie() to load a youtube video player inside my flash website but when i load another video the old one doesn't stop, so i tried unloadmovie to destroy it but it seems that i did a mistake in my code This is how the code looks to stop the old one an load the new: vloader.unloadMovie(); vloader.loadMovie("http://www.youtube.com/v/Alw5hs0chj0&hl=fr&fs=1hJ-mPcGtC"); How to do that? please don't suggest me to use other objects or classes, i only want to edit that code.
