  Looking for some best practices of UI list on iPhone which has item add/modify/delete functions. Please refer to some sample codes or articles to build user friendly interface. The main application is tab bar application and one of the tabs supposed to show item management. The item itself consisting of 3 text items, first one can be label, it's short, the rest if it's not terribly complicated I would like to show below with small font or show when user taps on item entering edit mode... Not sure how to design all this and which views to use.

• Creating an Attribute to check for Exceptions

  I'm creating an attribute so that whenever an exception occurs on my site, I'll receive an email detailing the exception. I've got so far but my Attribute code doesn't seem to fire if an exception occurs: public class ReportingAttribute : FilterAttribute, IExceptionFilter { public void OnException(ExceptionContext filterContext) { // This will generate an email to me ErrorReporting.GenerateEmail(filterContext.Exception); } } Then above my Controller I'm doing: [ReportingAttribute] public class AccountController : Controller The other way to do it is ofcourse putting ErrorReporting.GenerateEmail(ex) inside my catch blocks? There must be a simpler way? Thats why I thought of creating the Attribute to handle this

• Safari won't request video or audio from HTML 5 media elements?

  So far what I've been developing has worked in Chrome and, using fallbacks, IE8. What I don't get is this: Safari just won't start loading <video> or <audio> content. Safari 6 won't load, and neither will iOS 5's Safari: My code calls .load() on the elements at the appropriate time (at least for Chrome), so what gives? Here is the video declaration: <video width="800" height="600" class="faces" id="facesVideo"> <source src="video/grid.mp4" type="video/mp4" /> <source src="video/grid.ogv" type="video/ogg" /> </video> The audio is declared dynamically, but has the same problem. Do I need to wait for some DOM event that Chrome doesn't need before calling .load()? What does it take to get Safari to start buffering until the elements can fire canplaythrough?

  I have the following Model: Entities: Product (Contains basic data for products: price, etc) Attribute (Contains data for all possible optional attributes) ProductAttribute (Contains data for optional attributes of a product, eg. Color, Model, Size). ProductAttribute is essentially a many to many relationship with payload (ProductId, AttributeID, Value) And this piece of code: private static void ListAttributes(Product p) { p.ProductAttributes.Load(); foreach (var att in p.ProductAttributes) { att.Attribute.load(); Console.WriteLine("\tAttribute Name:{0} - Value {1}", att.Attribute.Name, att.AttributeValue); } } This piece of code will fire a query for each time the att.Attribute.Load() method is called in the foreach loop, only so i can get display the name of the attribute. I would like to fetch the Attribute.Name together with the query that fetches all attribute values, i.e. join ProductAttribute and Attribute. Is there any way to achieve this within my method?

• Displaying name instead of ID PHP MySQL

  Hi, I need something simple; I have page where a user clicks an author to see the books associated with that author. On my page displaying the list of books for the author, I want a simple HTML title saying: 'The books for: AUTHORNAME' I can get the page to display author ID but not the name. When the user clicks the link in the previous page of the author, it looks likes this: <a href="viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=<?php echo $row['author_id']?>"><?php echo $row['authorname']?></a> And then on the 'viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=23' I have declared this at the start: $author_id = $_GET['author_id']; $authorname = $_GET['authorname']; And finally, 'The books for: AUTHORNAME, where it says AUTHORNAME, I have this: echo $authorname (With PHP tags, buts its not letting me put them in!) And this doesnt show anything, however if I change it to author_id, it displays the correct author ID that has been clicked, but its not exactly user friendly!! Can anyone help me out!

  Hello, I have an input tag. This tag does not have the autocomplete feature turned off, thus, one does not necessarily need to release a key to change the value of this field and focus anotehr one. My question is: how can I detect ANY value changes of this particular field, like e. g. <input onvaluechange="//do following..." /> The JavaScritp attribute onchange does not fire on change of value, only on changes like blur, focus, etc... • Using Drools to provide error processing and consequence management

  Hi, I am working on a module whose purpose is to process Java exceptions and decide upon a strategy for dealing with them. The exceptions could be things I know about (explicit business exceptions eg TransformationException) or more general environmental stuff (JMS errors, IO errors etc) The facts inserted into the knowledge base are all the same class, and wrap (contain) an Exception. I want to write a rule that will explicitly match the exceptions I know how to deal with (eg TransformationException) and have another rule that catches 'everything else' The problem seems to me to be that for a fact containing a TransformationException, both rules will fire and the output will be uncertain. How would I go about writing such exclusive rules without relying on salience to steer the order of execution (this seems to be bad practice from what I have read)? I have a solution in place that I am not happy with whereby the outcome depends on the order in which the rules are defined in my .drl.

• Prevent browser form submission when Wicket AjaxFormValidatingBehaviour validation fails

  I have a Page with a Wizard component. The user can navigate the panels of the wizard by using the next and previous buttons which I have performing full (non-ajax) form submissions so that the app is back-button friendly. When the next button is clicked, I would like to attempt ajax form validation (if javascript is enabled). I tried doing: nextButton.add( new AjaxFormValidatingBehavior( form, "onsubmit") ); to add such validation. The behaviour works - however, when validation errors occur the browser still submits the entire form. What is the Wicket way to prevent the browser from submitting the form in this case?

• VBA SQL Loop using QODBC

  I am trying to loop through an existing table (tblSalesOrder) and I need to run through every line (where they relate to that particular customer) and write each line into an SQL statement and execute it. What is the easiest way to go about this procedure? The number of lines will need to be counted prior to data being written via SQL to a QuickBooks database. I can code something similar in php using the code below, but I am unsure how to convert this into a VBA friendly format: $sql_count = "SELECT count(*) FROM tblSalesOrder WHERE Customer='cust_number'"; execute_query($sql_count) When the above value is greater than 0, the vba code should loop through the queries. • Any way to add an observer to the head of the queue using Element#observe?

  This might not be possible but before I rewrite part of my application I wanted to ask... I have a JavaScript app which creates a submit <input> and observes that input's click event using Prototype's Element#observe function. For a few particular pages on one particular site which uses this app, I need to apply some additional business logic before the code which executes normally when the button is clicked. Is there any way I can use Elemen#observe to add my new event handler before the existing event handler, so I can stop the event if these new conditions aren't met? If not I'll probably solve this the "proper" way by having the application fire a specific beforeTakingAction event and add a listener for that which prevents the application from taking it's action, but that's more complicated than this simple problem requires, and requires rewriting part of a shared application for just one user...

• How do I get the current Application Name (in terms of IIS) in a classic asp Web application

  I have a classic asp application which retrieves the current application name and sets an Application variable containing that name. This name is important (I wont go into why) and is essentially the friendly name in IIS. The problem is, the implementation used to get this name is flawed, it a) assumes the home directory contains the string wwwroot, and b) assumes the folder name is the same as the application name. I can no longer guarantee these conditions. I would have thought the application name is know at run-time but I can't seem to find it in either Session or Application variables (at application start up entry point in global.asa). Any ideas?

  When I replaceWith an element to bring one out of the DOM, then replaceWith it back in, events registered to it do not fire. I need to events to remain intact. Here's my Javascript: var replacement = $(document.createElement('span')); var original = $(this).replaceWith(replacement); replacement .css('background-color', 'green') .text('replacement for ' + $(this).text()) .click(function() { replacement.replaceWith(original); }); Live demo In the demo, when you click an element, it is replaced with another element using replaceWith. When you click the new element, that is replaced with the original element using replaceWith. However, the click handler does not work any more (where I would think it should).

  I want give web development using Python a shot, but I'm failing hard. I don't even know if I CAN run Python. The webpage for my web host says it supports all kinds of stuff, including Python. I've never touched anything CGI related and this does not appear to be a noob friendly area. In VB you can write on the form Sub ButtonName_Click() Dim Recipients With Item.GetInspector.ModifiedFormPages("Message") Set Recipients = .Controls("To") End With End Sub which will fire whenever the button named "ButtonName" on the form is clicked and will set the variable Recipients to a string of whatever is in the To text box. Now I have a custom form, and I have a VS C# Outlook Add-in, and they're two separate things. I've got an event handler that can catch MailItem objects, but I don't know how to handle custom form button clicks or even how to access elements on the form. EDIT - Just to clarify, the custom form was created in Outlook and then its .ofs was imported into VS. Both Outlook and VS are 2010.

• How to edit default.aspx on SharePoint site without SharePoint Designer

  On several occations, I have faced the situation that the default.aspx page on a Site doesn't work. More specifically, a reference to a WebPart and/or Control is throwing a error because the assembly is not found. Fine, you just fire up the dreaded SharePoint Designer and remove the dependency line. However, if I wanted to use this method when not having SharePoint Designer, how could this be done? EDIT: Removing the web part using the "?contents=1" web part management page didn't help in my case. The <%@Register tag was still there and had to be removed using SharePoint Designer.

  I have a similar situation to the one described in the title. All that I need to do is map all requests in the form /search/?q=test to /test. This is because we are changing the way our search works to make it user friendly, but still want to allow for backward compatability (i.e. anyone that may have these links bookmarked etc). However, thus far I have this: RedirectMatch 301 /search/?q=(.*) /$1 And that doesn't work, but: RedirectMatch 301 /search/(.*) /$1 does... Any idea why? Cheers.

• How can I detect when the .NET Framework feature is "turned off" in Windows 7 / Vista?

  My application requires the .NET Framework version 3.5. I recently ran into a customer that had the .NET Framework installed but turned off on Windows Vista (also applies to Windows 7). In this case, my installer (InstallShield 2009) does not prompt the user to install the Framework (because it is already installed) and when my application runs it crashes immediately. I tried another .NET application and it also crashes immediately. Is there any way to detect this situation and handle it more gracefully? Just detecting this during install is not ideal since the .NET Framework can be turned off at any time. Ideally, the application would be able to check and display a friendly message to the user telling them they need to turn on the .NET Framework. EDIT: "Turning off" the .NET Framework in Windows Vista or Windows 7 is not the same as uninstalling it. • how to find out how much application memory django process is (or will be) taking?

  There are different "Application memory" options (like 80MB...200MB) in django-friendly hosting called webfaction and I'm confused deciding which one I should buy. Could someone please walk me through the ideas on how to figure out how much memory my project might require (excluding operating system, the main apache server and the database servers memory requirements)? I understand in theory I'll need to perform some kind of load testing, but thought there might be ways to calculate that in advance with some simple/relatively easy understandable approach. I don't know how hard they enforce application memory usage limit, and another question is: what will happen if more users came to the site and more threads started than what I expected? Will the application crash? Or will delays just become uncomfortable? And - no, application is not ready yet (I can't measure anything right now). Development environment if it matters is Winodows 7, 64-bit. Hosting itself is some kind of Linux I think. (Sorry if it's not a stackoverflow question.)

• m and s keys do not work over vnc connection to ubuntu server

  I'm new at setting a lot of this up, so bear with me. I installed Ubuntu 10.4 server on a 64 bit machine. Then I added vnc so I could manage it while it's racked. I start the server, SSH to it, and run vncserver :1 At this point, all keys work fine. Next I exit out of the SSH session and fire up my client vnc app. I connect via the IP :1, enter my password, and everything seems to be fine. Now when I enter a terminal (through the vnc connection) I cannot type lowercase "s" or "m" (upper case works). I've tried on two different pc's running the vnc client, but it's the same. I also installed the latest updates from Ubuntu as of today. Thanks for any help.

• jquery mouseleave issue when moving too slow

  Hello. I am using the jQuery mouseenter and mouseleave events to slide a div down and up. Everything works well except for the mouseleave which doesn't appear to fire ONLY if the mouse of moved off of the div quite slowly. If i move the mouse at a relatively normal or fast speed then it works as expected. Can anyone explain this or provide any info on how to get around this? • Event firing sequence for a submit button.

  Say a submit button has a click event handler as well (yes, it's wrong, but that's really the code I'm working on). And the click handler sets a value in a field of the form that's about to be submitted. So when the submit button is clicked: What will fire first, the form submit event or the click event? Will the value set in the form field by the click event submitted to the server? I think this depends on the answer to Q1. If the form is posted first, I'm guessing it won't. Note: I'm not looking for alternatives and advice. I know what the proper way of handling this will be. Just trying to understand the sequence of events and their implications.

  Hello, At my company we have recently done some tricky stuff with C++ and templates, making use of some features of the compiler. When working with this code people need to take a few setup steps otherwise they get some rather cryptic compiler errors, what I would like to do is determine if there is a way to tell the compiler to inject, and or swap out the message published for an error when compiling? so that I either get a friendly message that instructs the person in conjunction with the cryptic error or instead of the cryptic error.   I'm working on this big website and I want to put it online before its fully finished... I'm working locally and the database is getting really big so I wanted to upload the website and continue to work on it in the server, but allowing people to enter, so I can test. The question is if this is good for SEO, I mean, there are a lot of things SEO related that are incomplete.. For example: there are no friendly URLs, no sitemap, no .htacces file, lot of 'in-construction' sections... Does Google will penalize me forever? How does it works? Google indexes adn get the structure of the site just once or its constantly updating and checking for changes??? What i should do? What you recommend?!!?

  Hi All, I have a bit of code that works with a result set called "result" (original I know) but depending on the incoming variable I'd like to fire the specific query depending. I have the below in an if statement but that just makes the "result" recordset gets those nasty red lines and it doesn't work.
