  • IE8, XHTML, position: fixed; and z-index.

    I have an XHTML 1.0 transitional Doctype. I have a <div> that is position: fixed; bottom: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; z-index: 200;. Inside that <div> I have two buttons which are position relative, aligned right, with a set z-index of 201; In Firefox the bar at the bottom and the two buttons are correctly located at the bottom. In IE8 however, the bar is visible and the z-index appears to be overlaying the other content, but the buttons are hidden behind the main div, despite being children and having their z-index set. I'm using the following meta tag; <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" /> to force the document into IE8 mode. If I emulate IE7 (put on compatability mode), the bar and buttons work just fine. I don't understand how IE7's rendering is better than IE8. I don't want to have to force compatability mode due to other things that IE7 cannot render and IE8 can. Is there another solution, or have I missed something? Thanks.

  • Moving checkmarks in checkbox lists after page reload - Firefox only

    I'm getting some strange behavior in Firefox whenever I put checkboxes inside a list (ol, ul, dl), and then dynamically insert buttons above the list. If I start with a something simple list like this: <dl class="c"> <dt><label for="a1"><input type="checkbox" id="a1" />one</label></dt> <dt><label for="a2"><input type="checkbox" id="a2" />two</label></dt> <dt><label for="a3"><input type="checkbox" id="a3" />three</label></dt> </dl> and add some jQuery like this: $(document).ready(function(){ var a = $('<button type="button">a</button>'); var b = $('<button type="button">b</button>'); $('<div/>').append(a).append(b).insertBefore($('.c')); }); ...then open it in Firefox, it looks fine at first. But check the first checkbox, reload the page, and the check-mark jumps to the second box. Reload again, and it jumps to the third. Reload yet again, and no checkboxes are left checked. If I leave out one of the buttons by dropping one of the append calls, it's fine. If I change the buttons to divs or something similar, it's fine. If I replace the dl tag with a div (and get rid of the dt tags), it's fine. But I need both buttons, and the checkboxes have to be in a list for what I'm trying to build. Does anybody know what's causing this?

  • Prevent Network Printers Automatically being added to 'Devices and Printers' in Windows 7

    I think my question is a duplicate of this one, but the original question was never properly answered (the steps described are for Windows XP). I am aware of the option to "Turn off Network Discovery" (under Control Panel All Control Panel Items Network and Sharing Center Advanced sharing settings); I set this option (for both Home/Work and Private) but it doesn't seem to stop the printers getting added, and has the side effect of preventing me from browsing the list of machines on the network (which I need). I've tried the Windows XP registry option - but it doesn't seem to make any difference: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\NoNetCrawling I find it annoying having the printer list cluttered with printers from all over the office which I am never going to use (especially since lots of them no longer physically exist, users just haven't deleted them from their machines). This must be a real problem for people in massive offices with large numbers of printers - but I can't seem to find a lot of people complaining about it - which makes me think I'm missing something obvious. I don't really want to hack the firewall or turn off sharing completely, I still want to select and use network printers and file shares. Any ideas?

  • Win8/7/XP print spooler not getting along with Zebra ZT230 via WIFI

    I have a graphics-intensive 4"x6" label I'm printing to the ZT230. I'm printing multiple (10) copies. When connected via USB, all goes well. However, when connected via wifi, I only get 2 of the labels. A wireshark capture shows that at some point in the process my computer (presumably my windows spooler) is sending a reset packet, which, I believe, would pretty much kill the print job. I'm getting the same results on Win8, Win7 and WinXP. The print job was originally generated on Zebra's ZebraDesigner2 software. For easier diagnosis, I captured it to a .prn file.   • graphics performance better on battery?

    Anyone have any idea why my laptop would perform (considerably) better while on battery than while plugged in? It's a Dell Latitude E6420 with Windows 8 Pro. I tried mirroring all the settings in the selected power plan from "On battery" to "Plugged In" and that didn't help. I then just restored the defaults for all power plans (balanced and high performance). I'm still seeing the same results. The best example where it is most noticeable (don't laugh) is Sim City Social in Chrome. I'm probably seeing a performance increase of 5x on battery versus plugged in. This is easily reproducible too. I'm very confused. Could it be caused by dust? The laptop isn't that old and there is no visible dust. I'm not going to take it apart to check the insides as it's a corporate laptop. Could it be overheating? I'm quite keen to use an ORM like nHibernate or similar for data access. Would DotNetNuke be a good choice? Or are there other options which are better.   • Database tables - how many database?

I wanted to create separate table sets for user data, temporary tables, etc and thinking maybe have one separate database only for critical data, etc but I am not a tech person and now sure how this works?     I want to allow users add files to the application document folder, so I used the iTunes file sharing. The problem is they can only add single files with a flat structure. I want to drag and drop whole folder (even with sub folders) and keep the structure. Questions I have: is it possible with iTunes file sharing? if not, is there an open source project that helps me with writing a pc side app that talks to the iPhone side app and pushes the files into it?

    I've tried several ways and can't get the iPhone Calculator's modulus function. If I want to compute, say, 5 % 3, what buttons do I press to get it to work? When I try pressing 5, then %, Calculator immediately displays 0.05. Is the mod function broken or am I pressing the buttons in the wrong order? I'm running iPhone OS 3.1.3.

Among the three buttons, close was moved to the far left. Close is below Applications and above File. You have to look to the close button to close Windows now. Why?

    Hi, I have a Listview that uses databind. I set the DataSource property to a binding source. All works fine. The problem is that I need to have a column that is not databinded and contains only buttons that have the same handler for click event. To accomplish this I tried to add a subitem that is a button for each ListViewItem after InitializeComponent but doesn't work, nothing is displayed. Also I set the list view column type to Control. If I add elements to ListView and isn't databinded that the buttons appear. So it will be a great help for me to know if buttons could be displayed in column that is not databinded when the listview uses databinding for rest of columns. Thanks!

The problem is the two buttons don't grow to fill the space. The result is something like this: I would like the buttons to grow and fill the whole line.

  • ASP.NET: images broken when combining URL Rewriting, asp:ImageButton and html base tag

    Hi, I'm using URL Rewriting under ASP.NET 4 (using ISAPI_Rewrite) and I'm finding that that some of my images are not loading as .NET does not seem to understand I'm using an html BASE tag (pretty standard and essential when doing URL Rewriting): eg in my development environment I have: <base href='http://localhost/venuefinder/Website/'></base> and on my pages I have: <asp:ImageButton runat="server" ImageUrl="~/images/button.gif" /> On the home page of the site (http://localhost/venuefinder/Website/) this works fine, however on a page that uses URL rewriting, the image does not work: /venuefinder/Website/venues/ashton_gate_stadium/V18639/ ..as the browser is trying to load: http://localhost/images/buttons/search-button.gif instead of: http://localhost/venuefinder/Website/venues/images/buttons/search-button.gif This is happening because .NET is rendering the button as: src="../../../images/buttons/search-button.gif" ...which is incorrect. Is there any way I can correct this problem so that .NET renders the correct src attribute for the image? (without all the ../../../ etc)

  • Flex: vertical gap between list items not working

I have tried everything from setting the "vertical-gap" property to negative and positive numbers as well as changing the padding-bottom and padding-top on them. I want the buttons to be right up against eachother vertically. I have also tried "button-height" and padding on the List component...still nothing. How do I control this?

  • Strange behavior in DockPanel

    I don't understand, I have a toolbar with buttons bind to custom commands. Also I have an expandable control docked to the left of window - kinda NavPanel. (Devcomponents' NavigationPane to be exact) Now, everytime when it's collapsed or expanded, buttons in the toolbar become disabled and stay like that till the focus changes. Of course, it's simple to change the focus inside Collapsed and Expanded events, but unfortunately it works only in the first and ignores the second one and all buttons stay disabled. It seems that it something to do with CommandTarget which I haven't define nowhere. Maybe I should? Any ideas?

I created a usercontrol and has a background image, then on top of it I have few radio buttons and labels. Radio buttons and labels are all having transparent background as color. However, when I show and hide the User control, I can see the flickering on those labels and radio buttons that has transparent background. And I tried Me.SetStyle(ControlStyles.DoubleBuffer _ Or ControlStyles.AllPaintingInWmPaint _ Or ControlStyles.UserPaint _ Or ControlStyles.SupportsTransparentBackColor, _ True) After initializeComponent() to enable double buffer on this user control, but it doesn’t seem to work.

    I'm making an Android App, and i need to put a control that let user choose between 4 different colors. I want to do this with something like radio buttons: the problem is that radiobuttons are round... is there a way to set them looks like square/rect buttons, and assign a color to their inside rect area ? If not, how can i achieve that choose for the user ? I need this because i'm making a Todo/Task android application, and i need the user to choose the priority of a task, between for priority level that are rapresented with a color. So i think to do that by showing 4 buttons, each with a different color associated, and a text inside ("0", "1", "2", "3") Thanks!

  • Disabling a link tag using JavaScript on my printable page

    I have a script that creates a printable page by copying the HTML across and then doing some manipulation, such as disabling the buttons on the page, on page load. I also want to disable the links on the page. I don't really mind if they look like links still as long as they don't do anything, and don't give any JavaScript errors! The anchor tag doesn't seem to have a disabled attribute... Unfortunately, I can't use jQuery, so JavaScript only please! Edit: I want to disable the links, buttons etc on the page so that when the 'printable page' opens in another window, the user cannot mess with it by clicking buttons or links. I want it to essentially be a 'frozen snapshot' of the page that they want to print.
