  I had to do a division in shell script and the best way was: result1=`echo "scale=3; ($var1 / $total) * 100"| bc -l` result2=`echo "scale=3; ($var2 / $total) * 100"| bc -l` but I want to compare the values of $result1 and $result2 Using if test $result1 -lt $result2 or if [ $result1 -gt $result2 ] didn't work :( Any idea how to do that?

• How to mkdir only if a dir does not already exist?

  I am writing a script to run under the korn shell on AIX. I'd like to use the mkdir command to create a directory. But the directory may already exist, in which case I don't want to do anything. So I want to either test to see that the directory doesn't exist, or suppress the "File exists" error that mkdir throws when it tries to create an existing directory. Any thoughts on how best to do this?

  This is a very specific question for a Google Chrome extension. http://www.meebo.com/mobile/ This page is where you're kicked to when you go to Meebo.com on an iPhone or Droid phone. But if you notice, the Status box where you can set yourself away or what you want your status to be has white text on a white background. In order to get a website to appear in a Google Chrome extension's popup window (the one that drops down when you click the icon next to the address bar) that isn't an included html file in the extension, I need to use an iFrame. I know that there's security measures about Cross-Site stuff like javascript and I'm not surprised I'm having trouble accessing the CSS. But there's a class, status, and it's color is white and I need to change that to black. I've tested it with Chrome's Inspect Element window and if I change that, I'll be fine. I've tried changing the manifest.json file to inject a CSS file using Content-Scripts, but nothing... I'm new to Chrome Extensions but I have experience doing web development.

• How to get number of rows deleted from mysql in shell script

  Hi all I can't work out how to get the mysql client to return the number of rows deleted to the shell when running a delete. Does anyone know what option will enable this? Or ways around it? Here's what i'm trying, but i get no output: #!/bin/bash deleted=`mysql mydb -e "delete from mytable where insertedtime < '2010-04-01 00:00:00'"|tail -n 1` I was expecting something like this as the output from mysql: deleted 999999 Which is why i have the tail -n 1 so i only pick up the count and not the column name. When running the command by hand (mysql mydb -e "delete from mytable where insertedtime < '2010-04-01 00:00:00'") there is no output. When running the command interactively when running the mysql client i ge the following: mysql>delete from mytable where insertedtime < '2010-04-01 00:00:00'; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) I want to get the rows affected count into my shell variable. Any help would be most appreciated.

  I have been porting oracle selects, and I have been running across a lot of queries like so: SELECT e.last_name, d.department_name FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id(+) = d.department_id; ...and: SELECT last_name, d.department_id FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id = d.department_id(+); Are there any guides/tutorials for converting all of the variants of the (+) syntax? What is that syntax even called (so I can scour google)? Even better.. Is there a tool/script that will do this conversion for me (Preferred Free)? An optimizer of some sort? I have around 500 of these queries to port.. When was this standard phased out? Any info is appreciated.

  I have the following command that I run on cygwin: find /cygdrive/d/tmp/* -maxdepth 0 -mtime -150 -type d | xargs du --max-depth=0 > foldersizesreport.csv I intended to do the following with this command: for each folder under /d/tmp/ that was modified in last 150 days, check its total size including files within it and report it to file foldersizesreport.csv however that is now not good enough for me, as it turns out inside each /d/tmp/subfolder1/somefile.properties /d/tmp/subfolder2/somefile.properties /d/tmp/subfolder3/somefile.properties /d/tmp/subfolder4/somefile.properties so as you see inside each subfolderX there is a file named somefile.properties inside it there is a property SOMEPROPKEY=3808612800100 (among other properties) this is the time in millisecond, i need to change the command so that instead of -mtime -150 it will include in the whole calculation only subfolderX that has a file inside them somefile.properties where the SOMEPROPKEY=3808612800100 is the time in millisecond in future, if the value SOMEPROPKEY=23948948 is in past then dont at all include the folder in the foldersizesreport.csv because its not relevant to me. so the result report should be looking like: /d/tmp/,subfolder1,<itssizein KB> /d/tmp/,subfolder2,<itssizein KB> and if subfolder3 had a SOMEPROPKEY=34243234 (time in ms in past) then it would not be in that csv file. so basically I'm looking for: find /cygdrive/d/tmp/* -maxdepth 0 -mtime -150 -type d | <only subfolders that have in them property in file SOMEPROPKEY=28374874827 - time in ms in future and not in past | xargs du --max-depth=0 > foldersizesreport.csv

  I've written a Korn Shell script that sets an array the following way: set -A fruits Apple Orange Banana Strawberry but when I'm trying to run it from within cron, it raises the following error: Your "cron" job on myhost /myScript.sh produced the following output: myScript.sh: -A: bad option(s) I've tried many crontab syntax variants, such as: Attempt 1: 0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * /path/to/script/myScript.sh Attempt 2: 0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * /path/to/script/./myScript.sh Attempt 3: 0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * cd /path/to/script && ./myScript.sh Any workaround would be sincerely appreciated. • Accessing variable from ARGV

  I'm writing a cPanel postwwwact script, if you're not familiar with the script its run after a new account is created. it relies on the user account variable being passed to the script which i then use for various things (creating databases etc). However, I can't seem to find the right way to access the variable i want. I'm not that good with shell scripts so i'd appreciate some advice. I had read somewhere that the value i wanted would be included in $ARGV{'user'} but this simply gives "root" as opposed to the value i need. I've tried looping through all the arguments (list of arguments here) like this: #!/bin/sh for var do touch /root/testvars/$var done and the value i want is in there, i'm just not sure how to accurately target it. There's info here on doing this with PHP or Perl but i have to do this as a shell script. EDIT Ideally i would like to be able to call the variable by something other than $1 or $2 etc as this would create issues if an argument is added or removed Any ideas?

  I already posted a question closely related to the this one. I watched the Mix10 video with P. Haacked and S. Hanselman. I am building an AJAX-powered site whose input forms are created on the fly. All the code to accomplish this is done within a script tag or a javascript file. For example the following DOM elements are created when the page loads and are wrapped into an existing div defined in a view: $('#myform').append('); $('#myform').append(''); When I click the submit button I need to get the values of the input form whose id is 'Name': $("#Name").val() and then I return a Json object: { Name: name }; For this kind of scenario there is no way to use Html.Encode() or AntiXss.HtmlEncode() on the client-side. The only way to check if the input is not harmful is done on the server-side (via a service layer). This seems a limitation. All is fine if and only if a view has a set of predefined inputs.   I've created a script that runs every night on my Linux server that uses mysqldump to back up each of my MySQL databases to .sql files and packages them together as a compressed .tar file. The next step I want to accomplish is to send that tar file through email to a remote email server for safekeeping. I've been able to send the raw script in the body an email by piping the backup text file to mailx like so: $ cat mysqldbbackup.sql | mailx [email protected] cat echoes the backup file's text which is piped into the mailx program with the recipient's email address passed as an argument. While this accomplishes what I need, I think it could be one step better, Is there any way, using shell scripts or otherwise, to send the compressed .tar file to an outgoing email message as an attachment? This would beat having to deal with very long email messages which contain header data and often have word-wrapping issues etc.

• Make a mouse pointer do a hyper-jump?

  I run a dual monitor setup. To get from monitor 1 to 2 (or vice-versa) requires lots of unnecessary mouse movement. My thought was to leverage a extra mouse button (I have two) and have the mouse hyper-jump (apologies to Star Trek) from the XY coordinates on monitor 1 to the same XY coordinates on monitor 2. How would I go about doing this? Could it be done via C#?

• jQuery drag and drop behavior with partially transparent image

  I'm trying to develop a drag-and-drop behavior based on the jQuery UI draggable behavior but am running into some road blocks. I want to be able to drag several images with transparent regions around a region of the screen. I want the user to be able to drag the image he clicks and not just whatever draggable div or PNG happens to be z-indexed on top. The below image is a screen grab from my test page. If I click the lower left region of the blue square through the red thing I should drag the square and not the red thing. The red thing is what gets dragged though because it is on top and the browser does not care about the transparency. My question is, how can I make it behave as expected in this situation and drag the square instead? Edit: Seems I can't attach images as a new user. • Website renders two scroll bars, is it the CSS, xhtml, or some jquery plugin?

  I've come to notice a bug on my website, I see that there's two scroll bars when the window is re-sized from a full sized window (my desktop's 1280x900). This issue is untraceable with Firebug and it shows up on all browsers. I'm using a JQuery UI script on the page as well but I'm not sure if that's what's doing this. What's a good way to go about getting rid of this? Or has anyone ever encountered having two scroll bars on the page? BTW: The in-page scroll bar is actually above the footer, if that helps.

This is what I have now awk '{ print $1, $5 }' filename newfilename That works except that when column 5 contains spaces e.g 123 Street, only 123 shows up and the street is considered as another column.
