• Help with starting up my thin server with Sinatra

  Hi All, I'm a newcomer trying to get my feet wet with Ruby and Sinatra. I followed the Slicehost articles in getting Ruby 1.9.1 setup along with Thin 1.2.7 with a reverse proxy to Nginx. Most things were going pretty smooth until I tried to start up my thin server. Also, is this still the preferred way of running Sinatra on thin? I can get the app working with just running it through Ruby itself: $ ruby myapp.rb == Sinatra/1.0 has taken the stage on 4567 for development with backup from Thin This allows me to see my pages in my sandbox. • Help with Android LinearLayout or RelativeLayout

  I need to create two views programmatically (because I need to access the ondraw of one of the views). For some reason, no matter what I do to add the views to the contentview, they don't show up vertically stacked, one below the other. I can do it just fine using the XML using a RelativeLayout and layout positioning, but with the XML I can't create a view object and overload the ondraw method. What am I doing wrong with the programmatic approach, and how do I solve this problem? • Help with a simple switch statement

  I need to find the value of a variable and use it to add a class to a div, based on a switch statement. For example, my variable is $link and if $link has google.com IN IT at all, I need $class to equal 'google', if $link as yahoo.com IN IT at all, $class then needs to equal 'yahoo' So, I need something like this, but I'm not sure how/or if to use preg_match or something to check and see if the $link variable has the value we are looking for in it - see 'case' text below: switch ($link) { case 'IF link has Google.com in it': $class = 'google'; break; case 'IF link has Yahoo.com in it': $class = 'yahoo'; break; default: # code... break; } OR if there is a better way to do this, please let me know :D Thanks

  I am having some trouble understanding the behavior of the following Scheme program: (define c (dynamic-wind (lambda () (display 'IN)(newline)) (lambda () (call/cc (lambda (k) (display 'X)(newline) k))) (lambda () (display 'OUT)(newline)))) As I understand, c will be bound to the continution created right before "(display 'X)". But using c seems to modify itself! The define above prints (as I expected) IN, X and OUT: IN X OUT And it is a procedure: #;2> c #<procedure (a9869 . results1678)> Now, I would expect that when it is called again, X would be printed, and it is not! #;3> (c) IN OUT And now c is not a procedure anymore, and a second invokation of c won't work! #;4> c ;; the REPL doesn't answer this, so there are no values returned #;5> (c) Error: call of non-procedure: #<unspecified> Call history: <syntax> (c) <eval> (c) <-- I was expecting that each invokation to (c) would do the same thing -- print IN, X, and OUT.   I have a queue of 1000 work items and a n-proc machine (assume n = 4).The main thread spawns n (=4) worker threads at a time ( 25 outer iterations) and waits for all threads to complete before processing the next n (=4) items until the entire queue is processed for(i= 0 to queue.Length / numprocs) for(j= 0 to numprocs) { CreateThread(WorkerThread,WorkItem) } WaitForMultipleObjects(threadHandle[]) The work done by each (worker) thread is not homogeneous.Therefore in 1 batch (of n) if thread 1 spends 1000 s doing work and rest of the 3 threads only 1 s , above design is inefficient,becaue after 1 sec other 3 processors are idling. Besides there is no pooling - 1000 distinct threads are being created How do I use the NT thread pool (I am not familiar enough- hence the long winded question) and QueueUserWorkitem to achieve the above. The following constraints should hold The main thread requires that all worker items are processed before it can proceed.So I would think that a waitall like construct above is required I want to create as many threads as processors (ie not 1000 threads at a time) Also I dont want to create 1000 distinct events, pass to the worker thread, and wait on all events using the QueueUserWorkitem API or otherwise Exisitng code is in C++.Prefer C++ because I dont know c# I suspect that the above is a very common pattern and was looking for input from you folks.

  How can i write a cloud-aware application? e.g. an application that takes benefit of being deployed on cloud. Is it same as an application that runs or a vps/dedicated server? if not then what are the differences? are there any design changes? What are the procedures that i need to take if i am to migrate an application to cloud-aware? Also i am about to implement a web application idea which would need features like security, performance, caching, and more importantly free. I have been comparing some frameworks and found that django has least RAM/CPU usage and works great in prefork+threaded mode, but i have also read that django based sites stop to respond with huge load of connections. Other frameworks that i have seen/know are Zend, CakePHP, Lithium/Cake3, CodeIgnitor, Symfony, Ruby on Rails.... So i would leave this to your opinion as well, suggest me a good free framework based on my needs. Finally thanks for reading the essay ;)

  Hey guys, I've been trying to cross-compile Spidermonkey and I am stuck with the problem wherein prtypes.h(NSPR) is unrecognizable. I alread triedy modifying Makefile.ref/config.mk/jsconfig.mk to point to a desired NSPR/DIS directory. I must have missed some basic steps because it still won't make things work.   Hello, everyone! I had already many problems with understanding, how ambiguous tokens can be handled elegantly (or somehow at all) in JavaCC. Let's take this example: I want to parse XML processing instruction. The format is: "<?" <target> <data> "?>": target is an XML name, data can be anything except ?>, because it's the closing tag. Thank you, JavaCC! I know, that I could use the MORE keyword of JavaCC, but this would give me the whole processing instruction as one token, so I'd had to parse/tokenize it further by myself. Why should I do that? Am I writing a parser that does not parse? What I would need is telling JavaCC to recognize "everything until ?>" as processing instruction data. How can it be done? Thank you.
