• WCF No EndPoint Listening

  I have a WCF Service hosted w/n IIS that has the following host header: WcfService.xxx.com. I'm able to successfully browse via IE to my service with the address subdomain.xxx.com/ServiceName.svc. I'm trying to consume the WCF Service via a ASP.NET Web application that has the following host header subdomain2.xxx.com. I've added the service reference correctly in the web.config to /WcfService.xxx.com/ServiceName.svc, but get the error(s): "The remote name could not be resolved: 'WcfService.xxx.com'" "There was no endpoint listening at http://WcfService.xxx.com/ServiceName.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action" Any direction/help would be appreciated.

• Is it possible to create an efficient UDF alternative to Excel's CUBEVALUE function?

  We'd like to create a simpler alternative to Excel's CUBEVALUE function for retrieving data from an OLAP server. The details aren't critical, but briefly, our function will "know" the source connection and accept a very simple ticker-like parameter and a date, in place of CUBEVALUE's MDX-style parameters. This is for internal use within our firm, just FYI. However, Excel has optimized CUBEVALUE so that calls to the OLAP server are batched. Question: Is there a way to code the new function so that it can similarly batch calls rather than issue a separate query for each cell?

• Getting started with Qt4: which book to read?

  I'm trying to learn Qt4. I have written code in C, C#, Python, PHP, Java and JavaScript before, but not in C++. Is there a book on Qt4 that you can recommend me? I've found some books I might like, but they're a little on the expensive side. I'm not ready to commit to Qt before I've played with it for a while, so I'd prefer to keep it under 30 bucks. • Available options for hosting FTP server in .NET application

  I need to implement an FTP service inside my .NET application (running as a Windows Service) and have not had much luck finding good/current source code or vendors. Ideally it needs to be able to respond to the basic FTP Protocol and accept the data stream from an upload via a stream, enabling me to process the data as it is being received (think on the fly hashing). I need to be able to integrate it into my service because it will stack on top of our current code base with an existing custom TCP/IP communication protocol. I don't want to write (and then spend time debugging and performance testing) my own protocol, or implementation. I have already found plenty of ftp client implementations, I just need an acceptable server solution.

• How to enable reading non-ascii characters in Servlets

  How to make the servlet accept non-ascii (Arabian, chines, etc) characters passed from JSPs? I've tried to add the following to top of JSPs: <%@page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%> And to add the following in each post/get method in the servlet: request.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8"); response.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8"); I've tried to add a Filter that executes the above two statements instead of in the servlet. To be quite honest, these was working in the past, but now it doesn't work anymore. I am using tomcat 5.0.28/6.x.x on JDK1.6 on both Win & Linux boxes.

  So I have this web app set up and running and it works fine for any username that you request, but when i try http://mrcastelo.pythonanywhere.com/lol/euw/Nazaré, it simply doesnt work - the error that I get on the server is the following: iddata= getJSON(urllolbase+region+urlid+username) #SummonerID UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 5: ordinal not in range(128) It is annoying me greatly, I've tried some other threads but none of them came to a fix. The api that I am using (www.legendaryapi.com) does accept this because this works. Any idea on how to fix this?

  Simple task: Send a windows message with dynamically allocated data, e.g. an arbitrary length string. How would you manage the responsibility to free this data? The receiver(s) of the windows message could be responsible to free this data. But: How can you guarantee that all messages will actually be received and thus the linked data will be freed? Imagine the situation that the receiver is shutting down, so it won't process it's message queue any more. However, the message queue still exists (for some time) and can still accept messages, which won't be processed any more. Thanks!

• Would I really want to return the minimum date?

  An old work colleague used to quote his father about tools, "You have to be smarter than it." In the code below, Resharper is telling me, "Value assigned is not used in any execution path" (pointing to the first line). If I accept its offer of help, dt is not assigned a value ("today"). Is this a case where "I have to be smarter than it" and ignore their warning, or is this a case where the tool is smarter than me, and I'm just not understanding it? My take on the situation is that if the if statement fails, the current date is returned (the default value I want), but if I acquiesce to Resharper's "demands" it would return the default value for Datetime, which is the minimum date, which I assume is something like 7/4/1776 or 1/1/0000 or so.   I want to use an Enum value for the types of VaryByCustom parameters I will support, is it possible to do this? I tried setting it in the page itself <%@ OutputCache Duration="600" VaryByParam="none" VaryByCustom='<%=VaryByCustomType.IsAuthenticated.ToString(); %>' %> But this returned the entire literal string "<%=VaryByCustomType.IsAuthenticated.ToString(); %>" inside my global.asax is there any way to do this either on the page itself or from the codebehind? Or is this just something I have to accept is purely magic strings and nothing I can do to add type safety to it?

• Silverlight Binding: User controls inside datagrid.

I use this same "{Binding SiteName}" in all my other colums with no issues, why can't the user control accept the same binding string?

  Hi all, I don't know whether this is a valid question to ask here or not, but I made an attempt. I am basically a C# guy. But since the last 7 days I have been asked to work in java (J2SE 1.4) and I am working in that. and gradually I am finding interest in that. I want to learn more about it and since I am finding a lot of similarity between C# and Java(what ever I have gleaned + worked so far in those 7 days), I am planning to steer my career in that. But having spent for more than 2 years in C# and then moving to java, will it be a problem in future (say after 3/4 months) if I need to change my job.. I mean my most of the exp. lies in C# and just started JAVA. so how the technical panel will accept me if I need to change the platform? Thanks

Edit: As Jon correctly remarks, Dictionaries are not the kind of thing that's sorted, so I should mention that I only want to do this when displaying results to the user, and it doesn't matter if later on the last item is different.   Hi, All. I use LineChart in Flex with horizontal category axis and I need drop duplicated category label on the chart. The data I use are like that: {Product: "C1", Store: "S1", Profit: "1500}, {Product: "C2", Store: "S1", Profit: "1000}, {Product: "C3", Store: "S2", Profit: "800}, {Product: "C4", Store: "S2", Profit: "1200}, {Product: "C5", Store: "S3", Profit: "1800} Beacuse I set horizontalAxis.categoryField = "Store" , the chart show label "S1,S1,S2,S2,S3" on ths axes. However, both C1 and C2 data point group on the second "S1" category (as same as C3,C4 on second S2). If I accept group data point on the same x-poistion, is there any idea to drop duplicated label?

• How to perform "shell" icon embedding in Visual Studio 2010?

  As far as I can tell, there have been (at least?) three types of icon embedding. There's the original style used by shell32.dll and friends, .Net's embedding, and the new type that WPF uses. I'm looking for how to perform the first one, as I want to have a few other icons available as resources for a jumplist, which can only accept that style. However, I can't figure out how to embed in this style, only the other two. How do I do this? All the results I find on google, etc are for adding icons to ResX files or similar. I am using C#, if it matters.

• Java/Swing: Problem with key listener

  I have a search dialog with a JTextField that's being used as a search box. When the user types something, it searches the DB, shows the result in a JTable and selects the first item in it. If the first result is what they were looking for, I want to let them quickly accept the dialog, by pressing Enter (while the JTextField is focused). So I added a KeyListener to the JTextField and it's working OK. Now the problem: The user opens can open the dialog by pressing Enter when a "Search" button on the dialog's parent frame is focused. The dialog is displayed and the JTextField gets the keyReleased event (from the Enter key that displayed it), so it shows up and closes. If the user holds Enter down, then the JTextField receives the keyPressed, keyTyped and keyReleased events. How can I fix without resorting to ugly workarounds? Platform is Windows 7 x64, btw.   Hi, Im loading an entity 'Member' from its id in route data. [ListItemsForMembershipType(true)] public ActionResult Edit(Member someMember) {...} The attribute on the action loads the membership type list items for a dropdown box and sticks it in viewdata. This is fine for add forms, and search forms (it gets all active items) but I need the attribute to execute BASED ON THE VALUE someMember.MembershipTypeId, because its current value must always be present when loading the item (i.e. all active items, plus the one from the loaded record). So the question is, what is the standard pattern for this? How can my attribute accept the value or should I be loading the viewdata for the drop down in a controller supertype or during model binding or something else? It is in an attribute now because the code to set the viewdata would otherwise be duplicated in each usage in each action.

• Computer Invisible On Domain

  Good afternoon, I'm sorry that this isn't a programming question specifically, but stackoverflow has been great at answering questions in the past, so I thought I'd give it a shot. One of our Linux users attempted to install Cygwin on our Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller. Now it is no longer possible to browse the domain and see all of the computers. For example, \\my_domain_name will just bring up a username/password dialog box (that will not accept any username or password, even the domain administrator) and no computers will ever be listed. However, I can still connect to computers based on their name or IP address. So \\eridanus or \\192.168.1.85 still work to connect to the shared directories of computers on our network. Does anyone know where I can find these settings? and how I can fix this problem? Thanks, Giawa

• Access 2007: Dynamic SQL to be run when opening a report

  I'm trying to have some SQL execute when I open a report. This works fine when I try to match on a column that's an integer with an integer, but when I try to match on a "text" column, it keeps popping up a dialog asking for what you want to filter on. Here's a somple query: select person_phone_numbers.person_id from person_phone_numbers where phone_number = '444-444-4444' This is actually a sub-query I'm trying to use, but this is where the problem is. If I change it to this it works fine: select person_phone_numbers.person_id from person_phone_numbers where phone_id = 2 I put this in the OnOpen event and I'm assigning it to Me.RecordSource if that makes a difference. My goal here is to have a form accept query parameter(s) and have it open a report with the results. Any thoughts on why it wants to ask for a parameter vs. just running the query the way I have it?

• How can I set the buffer size for the underneath Socket UDP? C#

  Hi all As we know for UDP receive, we use Socket.ReceiveFrom or UdpClient.receive Socket.ReceiveFrom accept a byte array from you to put the udp data in. UdpClient.receive returns directly a byte array where the data is My question is that How to set the buffer size inside Socket. I think the OS maintains its own buffer for receive UDP data, right? for e.g., if a udp packet is sent to my machine, the OS will put it to a buffer and wait us to Socket.ReceiveFrom or UdpClient.receive, right? How can I change the size of that internal buffer? I have tried Socket.ReceiveBuffSize, it has no effect at all for UDP, and it clearly said that it is for TCP window. Also I have done a lot of experiments which proves Socket.ReceiveBufferSize is NOT for UDP. Can anyone share some insights for UDP internal buffer??? Thanks
