  • Problem with modifying a page with ajax, and the browser keeping the unmodified page in cache.

    Hey there, I have a situation where my page loads some information from a database, which is then modified through AJAX. I click a link to another page, then use the 'back' button to return to the original page. The changes to the page through AJAX I made before don't appear, because the browser has the unchanged page stored in the cache. Is there a way of fixing this without setting the page not to cache at all? Thanks :)

  • Proper structure for dependency injection (using Guice)

    I would like some suggestions and feedback on the best way to structure dependency injection for a system with the structure described below. I'm using Guice and thus would prefer solutions centered around it's annotation-based declarations, not XML-heavy Spring-style configuration. Consider a set of similar objects, Ball, Box, and Tube, each dependent on a Logger, supplied via the constructor. (This might not be important, but all four classes happen to be singletons --- of the application, not Gang-of-Four, variety.) A ToyChest class is responsible for creating and managing the three shape objects. ToyChest itself is not dependent on Logger, aside from creating the shape objects which are. The ToyChest class is instantiated as an application singleton in a Main class. I'm confused about the best way to construct the shapes in ToyChest. I either (1) need access to a Guice Injector instance already attached to a Module binding Logger to an implementation or (2) need to create a new Injector attached to the right Module. (1) is accomplished by adding an @Inject Injector injectorfield to ToyChest, but this feels weird because ToyChest doesn't actually have any direct dependencies --- only those of the children it instantiates. For (2), I'm not sure how to pass in the appropriate Module. Am I on the right track? Is there a better way to structure this? The answers to this question mention passing in a Provider instead of using the Injector directly, but I'm not sure how that is supposed to work. EDIT: Perhaps a more simple question is: when using Guice, where is the proper place to construct the shapes objects? ToyChest will do some configuration with them, but I suppose they could be constructed elsewhere. ToyChest (as the container managing them), and not Main, just seems to me like the appropriate place to construct them.

  • Jquery data() returning undefined

    I have been doing a simple jquery data() test. However it is returning undefined. It works on jsfiddle though (http://jsfiddle.net/yrCdj/).     In T-SQL, this is allowed: DECLARE @SelectedValue int SELECT @SelectedValue = MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = 1 So, it's possible to get the value of a SELECT and stuff it in a variable (provided it's scalar, obviously). If I put the same select logic in a stored procedure: CREATE PROCEDURE GetMyInt AS SELECT MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = 1 Can I get the output of this stored procedure and stuff it in a variable? Something like: DECLARE @SelectedValue int SELECT @SelectedValue = EXEC GetMyInt (I know the syntax above is not allowed because I tried it!)

  • Sorting a list of numbers with modified cost

    First, this was one of the four problems we had to solve in a project last year and I couldn’t find a suitable algorithm so we handle in a brute force solution. Problem: The numbers are in a list that is not sorted and supports only one type of operation. The operation is defined as follows: Given a position i and a position j the operation moves the number at position i to position j without altering the relative order of the other numbers. If i j, the positions of the numbers between positions j and i - 1 increment by 1, otherwise if i < j the positions of the numbers between positions i+1 and j decreases by 1. This operation requires i steps to find a number to move and j steps to locate the position to which you want to move it. Then the number of steps required to move a number of position i to position j is i+j. We need to design an algorithm that given a list of numbers, determine the optimal (in terms of cost) sequence of moves to rearrange the sequence. Attempts: Part of our investigation was around NP-Completeness, we make it a decision problem and try to find a suitable transformation to any of the problems listed in Garey and Johnson’s book: Computers and Intractability with no results. There is also no direct reference (from our point of view) to this kind of variation in Donald E. Knuth’s book: The art of Computer Programing Vol. 3 Sorting and Searching. We also analyzed algorithms to sort linked lists but none of them gives a good idea to find de optimal sequence of movements. Note that the idea is not to find an algorithm that orders the sequence, but one to tell me the optimal sequence of movements in terms of cost that organizes the sequence, you can make a copy and sort it to analyze the final position of the elements if you want, in fact we may assume that the list contains the numbers from 1 to n, so we know where we want to put each number, we are just concerned with minimizing the total cost of the steps. We tested several greedy approaches but all of them failed, divide and conquer sorting algorithms can’t be used because they swap with no cost portions of the list and our dynamic programing approaches had to consider many cases. The brute force recursive algorithm takes all the possible combinations of movements from i to j and then again all the possible moments of the rest of the element’s, at the end it returns the sequence with less total cost that sorted the list, as you can imagine the cost of this algorithm is brutal and makes it impracticable for more than 8 elements. Our observations: n movements is not necessarily cheaper than n+1 movements (unlike swaps in arrays that are O(1)). There are basically two ways of moving one element from position i to j: one is to move it directly and the other is to move other elements around i in a way that it reaches the position j. At most you make n-1 movements (the untouched element reaches its position alone). If it is the optimal sequence of movements then you didn’t move the same element twice.

  • Multithreading for loop while maintaining order

    I started messing around with multithreading for a CPU intensive batch process I'm running. Essentially I'm trying to condense multiple single page tiffs into single PDF documents. This works fine with a foreach loop or standard iteration but can be very slow for several 100 page documents. I tried the following based on a some examples I found to use multithreading and it has significant performance improvements however it obliterates the page order instead of 1,2,3,4 it will be 1,3,4,2,6,5 on what thread completes first. My question is how would I utilize this technique while maintaining the page order and if I can will it negate the performance benefit of the multithreading? Thank you in advance.   • Flexible string handling in Visual Studio 2008 C++

    I'm slowly starting to get the hang of the _T stuff in Visual Studio 2008 c++, but a few things still elude me. I can see the benefit of the flexibility, but if I can't get the basics soon, I think I'll go back to the standard way of doing this - much less confusing. The idea with the code below is that it scans the parameters for -d and then stores the text that follows that in the string variable fileDir. It also ignores any other parameters.   • document directory for different iphone app targets

    I have two targets for my app which both unarchive serialized objects, however the objects made by the two apps are not compatible. these objects seem to be saved to the same document directory so that one app will try to unarchive the other's objects. how do I get the apps to create separate sandboxes so they do not have access each others' saved objects? or do I need to just have each version create differently named files?

  • Manage more Images to move in View

    hi everyone, I'm creating an app which has more UIImageView on a View, they should move normally from a side to the other.   • How to reset keyboard for an entry field?

However, my case is that the keyboards are different some fields. For example, one fields is numeric & punctuation, and the next one is default (alphabetic keys). For the numeric & punctuation keyboard is OK, but the next field will stay as the same layout. It requires user to press 123 to go back ABC keyboard. I am not sure if there is any way to reset the keyboard for a field as its keyboard defined in xib? Not sure if there is any APIs available? I guess I have to do something is the following delegate? -(void)textFieldDidBegingEditing:(UITextField*) textField { // reset to the keyboard to request specific keyboard view? .... } OK. I found a solution close to my case by slatvik: -(void) textFieldDidBeginEditing:(UITextField*) textField { textField.keyboardType = UIKeybardTypeAlphabet; } However, in the case of the previous text fields is numeric, the keyboard stays numeric when auto-jumped to the next field. Is there any way to set keyboard to alphabet mode?

  • Configure Django project in a subdirectory using mod_python. Admin not working.

    HI guys. I was trying to configure my django project in a subdirectory of the root, but didn't get things working.(LOcally it works perfect). I followed the django official django documentarion to deploy a project with mod_python. The real problem is that I am getting "Page not found" errors, whenever I try to go to the admin or any view of my apps. Here is my python.conf file located in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ in Fedora 7 LoadModule python_module modules/mod_python.so SetHandler python-program PythonHandler django.core.handlers.modpython SetEnv DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE mysite.settings PythonOption django.root /mysite PythonDebug On PythonPath "['/var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs','/var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs/mysite'] + sys.path" I know /var/www/ is not the best place to put my django project, but I just want to send a demo of my work in progress to my customer, later I will change the location. For example. If I go to www.domain.com/mysite/ I get the index view I configured in mysite.urls. Two of them are: var typeInfo = Type.GetType("MyClass") and var typeInfo = typeof(MyClass) The advantage of the second way is that typos will be caught by the compiler, and the IDE can understand what I'm talking about (allowing features like refactoring to work without silently breaking the code) Does there exist an equivalent way of strongly referencing members/properties/methods for metadata and reflection?     I am just getting started with LINQ. I am creating an Entity Framework app that uses the canonical Post and Tag model. A Post contains an ID, Text, and Tags, and a Tag contains an ID, a Name, and Posts. A previous thread on StackOverflow showed me how to query for a Post that matches all Tag objects (A and B and C) in a search list. But how would I query for a Post that matches any Tag (A or B or C) in the list? Thanks for your help.

  • Use CSS (and maybe JavaScript) to make an element be square (or maintain a specific aspect ratio)

    I have a div that I want to have the following characteristics: Width = 50% of its parent element Height equal to whatever it needs to be in order to maintain a certain aspect ratio. I need to use percentages because the object will resize left-right when the browser is resized. I want the object to be resized top-bottom to ensure the object maintains the same aspect ratio. I don't think there's any way to use pure CSS to do this, but does anyone know of a way? Alternatively, is there an easy JavaScript way to do this? (JQuery is fine.)

    One of my users had a single error while opening a file (I'm using standard xml 1.0): The remote name could not be resolved: 'www.w3.org' I found a post here in StackOverflow that deals with this and it suggest setting the XmlResolver property to null. I've tried this, and all my documents still seem to load fine. However, the last thing I want is to break the file-reading mechanism of my app, so is it actually safe to disable the resolver?
