    Background: The language is JavaScript. The goal is to find a library or pre-existing code to do low-level plain-text formatting. I can write it myself, but why re-invent the wheel. The issue is: it is tough to determine if a "wheel" is out there, since any search for JavaScript libraries pulls up an ocean of HTML-centric stuff. I am not interested in HTML necessarily, just text.   • What IDE(s) or editor(s) do companies like Google, Apple, IBM, etc. use?

    Even though I have quite some experience in using various tools, I still can't make up my mind whether I prefer using IDE or a simple editor for code editing. Most IDEs I have experienced are written in Java (like Eclipse) which makes them slow and bulky. What's good about them is that it provides lots of tools. On the other hand editors are usually VERY fast. They can also be extended to become more similar to IDEs but usually I don't do that. However, there is Sublime Text 2 which has some basic code completion built-in. My question would be whether most Enterprise companies like Google, Apple, IBM and etc (except Microsoft because they have AMAZING IDE which, I assume, is used by MS developers) force their workers to use IDEs and whether using plain editor with external tools is considered being not professional? P.S. Not talking about cases like Android development where working without IDE barely possible.

  • Etag configuration with multiple apache servers or CDN / How does Google do ETags?

    I have an application which is served from two apache2 servers and I want to configure the ETags on static content. In the future I would also like to use a CDN. I see that this is supposed to be a problem because the Etag information will be different from server to server... The ETag format for Apache 1.3 and 2.x is inode-size-timestamp. Although a given file may reside in the same directory across multiple servers, and have the same file size, permissions, timestamp, etc., its inode is different from one server to the next. So if you're using more than one webserver to host your app (like 90% of the webapps you use everyday do), it's supposed to be an issue. However I see Google uses Etags, and certainly they use multiple servers and CDN and edge caching, etc... I get a 304 response for any cached Google content. How do they do it? How do you get around the multiple server issue? Is there a way to configure this with Apache?

    Hi, I've a window that will have an unknown amount of text fields, determined by the content of a remote server. In high level terms, how should I go about this? Create a custom view or create an empty window with a backing NSWindowController and then add stuff to it when the window is opened? I've seen the examples on the O'Reilly Cocoa book and those effectively create a custom NSView. Is this the right way to do it, 8 year later?

  • Center content of UISCrollView when smaller

    I have an UIImageView inside a UIScrollView which I use for zooming and scrolling. If the image/content of the scroll view if bigger than the scroll view everything works fine. However, when the image becomes smaller than the scroll view, it sticks to the top left corner of the scroll view. I would like to keep it centered, like the Photos app. Any ideas or examples about keeping the content of the UIScrollView centered when smaller? I am working with iPhone 3.0. The following code almost works.   • GMF - programmatically create connections without commands

    Hi I am developing an graphical editor with GMF and want to create a set of nodes (Resources in my project) and connections between them upon intialization of a new diagram. I do not want to use commands here because without the code is much slimmer, easier to read and also faster it seems to me. There is no problem creating nodes by calling my XXXFactory.eInstance.createResource() and adding them to the diagram model. My connection is contained as source-/targetConnections feature in the resource class. So I added a similarly created connection as source/target to the resources. But it will not show up in the diagram even though it exists in the ResourceImpl structural feature. Maybe I need to add it additionally to the diagram but since its contained by a feature contained by the diagram, I dont know how. Am i doing something wrong or missing something or is it just not possible to do this without commands. Any help would be much appreciated. Sample code is below. The output of it is the two nodes but no connection.     Hi everyone, I want to make editable cells with multi-lines content in QTreeWidget and I use for this purpose QPlainTextEdit as a delegate. I need to set proper size to all rows that switching between editing and displaying went smooth, without any visible changes. rect = textEdit.blockBoundingRect(textEdit.firstVisibleBlock()) with this I can find out the height I need to set for the row, but I missing the place where I can do it. How can i set proper height to QTreeWidget's rows on initialization stage? Thank you in advance, Serge

    Hi all, In my application I'm dynamically resizing a label in cell as well as cell when a cell is tapped in uitableview, but after resizing the label in cell, the contents in the tableview are getting shifted means the cells contain different cell content after this tap, whereas this' not the case when I'm tapping the cell and expanding it without expanding the label in it. I have many functions that take 'standard' arguments, which have to be explained in the docstring, but it would be nice to write the relevant parts of the docstring only once, as this would be much easier to maintain and update. I naively tried the following: arg_a = "a: a very common argument" def test(a): ''' Arguments: %s ''' % arg_a pass But this does not work, because when I do help(test) I don't see the docstring. Is there a good way to do this?
