  • Auto-generated values for columns in database

    Is it a good practice to initialize columns that we can know their values in database, for example identity columns of type unique identifier can have a default value (NEWID()), or columns that shows the record create date can have a default value (GETDATE()). Should I go through all my tables and do this whereever I am sure that I won't need to assign the value manually and the Auto-generated value is correct. I am also thinking about using linq-to-sql classes and setting the "Auto Generated Value" property of these columns to true. Maybe this is what everybody already knows or maybe I am asking a question about a fundamental issue, if so please tell me.

Than as a default I am loading one of the values in drop down which is '10'. It loads too as default value.   • Magento: Attribute always returns default value in catalog view, works fine in product view

    I've created a new Yes/No attribute for products. I've extended the Product model to do some custom logic and the custom functions are working everywhere. When I initially tried getting the custom attribute value, I ran into some issue. Magento wasn't loading it for me, so calls to $product-getMyAttributeName() did nothing. In the product views, I got it working with this additional function: public function getAttrVal($attr_name) { return $this->getResource()->getAttribute($attr_name)->getFrontend()->getValue($this); } So that worked great when viewing a product on the frontend. It would fetch the assigned value if set, or the default if not. When I view any Category (grid of all products in that category), the same exact code is being executed. But my getAttrVal() function always returns the default value, even if I've explicitly set this value for my product. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why the attribute loads correctly in the Product view but the Category view always grabs the default value, despite running the same exact code. Any thoughts?

  • Would I really want to return the minimum date?

    An old work colleague used to quote his father about tools, "You have to be smarter than it." In the code below, Resharper is telling me, "Value assigned is not used in any execution path" (pointing to the first line). If I accept its offer of help, dt is not assigned a value ("today"). Is this a case where "I have to be smarter than it" and ignore their warning, or is this a case where the tool is smarter than me, and I'm just not understanding it? My take on the situation is that if the if statement fails, the current date is returned (the default value I want), but if I acquiesce to Resharper's "demands" it would return the default value for Datetime, which is the minimum date, which I assume is something like 7/4/1776 or 1/1/0000 or so. So how do I go about giving in default values? also In my main testing class I tried giving in 3 arguments insead of 4 but this fails also. How do I get around this problem?.

    I am trying to copy a file to another folder in the android, but so far, i got no success. I manage to do so with a selected image and when taking a photo, but not with files. I've read and tried several solutions passed by the community (searched over the forum and the internet), but none of it was able to solve my problem when copying. First things first.     all my domains and created account work fine, but this domain which i created yesterday, each time i visit it, it redirects from domain.com to domain.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi. so i deleted it and re-created it, still same issue.. deleted the dns, rcreated new dns, then did cleanup and deleted dns and recreated.. do you know how can i fix it?

    When i create a website/virtual directory pointing to UNC path, its make our file copy extremely slow on the UNC path. 6 seconds for file copy (~13 M) on the UNC path without any virtual directory/website pointing to it. over 1 mins. for file copy (same files ~13M) on the same UNC path with virtual directory/website pointing to it. All file copy operation run on web server side. Our setting as below: Web server - Windows Server standard R2 2008 / IIS 7.5 File server - Windows Server standard 2003 I have tested this case on 3 servers (Windows Server standard R2 2008 / IIS 7.5) and got same result. I also tested this case on 2 windows 2003 / IIS 6, it won't slow down the file copy. Is it IIS 7.5 bug? any patch/hotfix to solve this case? Thank you. Gordon

  • Files missing after copying from one sdcard to another using Ubuntu 12.04

    I have two Kingston sdcards 8GB and 32GB. The 8GB for HTC Sensation and 32GB for my Tablet (Chinese). I soon ran out of space on my phone and decided to swap the data between the sdcards. I copied the data of 32GB sdcard to my PC(with Ubuntu 12.04) deleted everything on the 32GB sdcard and copied data from the 8GB sdcard to the other sdcard. At last I copied the data from my PC to the 8GB sdcard(before this I deleted everything that was on it before). Now the problem is that the 8GB sdcard has the data exactly the same, but the 32GB sdcard has some missing data. All my photos(not copied or posted on Facebook) and Songs are lost. Please help as to what I can do to get my data back? I have Android Revolution HD (ICS 4.0.3) on my rooted HTC Sensation (India). I suspect it has something to do with my data loss.

    I have a robocopy script to back up our Kiln repositories that runs nightly, which looks something like this: robocopy "$liveRepoLocation" "$cloneRepoLocation" /MIR /MT /W:3 /R:100 /LOG:"$backupLogLocation\BackupKiln.txt" /NFL /NDL /NP In the output, there are a ton of lines that contain "Extra file"s, like this: *EXTRA File 153 E:\Kiln Backup\elasticsearch\data\elasticsearch-kiln\nodes\0\indices\kiln-2\0\index\_yxe.fdt *EXTRA File 12 E:\Kiln Backup\elasticsearch\data\elasticsearch-kiln\nodes\0\indices\kiln-2\0\index\_yxe.fdx *EXTRA File 128 E:\Kiln Backup\elasticsearch\data\elasticsearch-kiln\nodes\0\indices\kiln-2\0\index\_yxe.fnm *EXTRA File 363 E:\Kiln Backup\elasticsearch\data\elasticsearch-kiln\nodes\0\indices\kiln-2\0\index\_yxe.frq *EXTRA File 13 E:\Kiln Backup\elasticsearch\data\elasticsearch-kiln\nodes\0\indices\kiln-2\0\index\_yxe.nrm Additionally, there are then hundreds of lines at the bottom that contain nothing but "100%"s, like this: 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% In addition to making the log files enormous (there are a lot of folders/files in Kiln repos), it makes it annoying to scan through the logs now and then to see if everything was working ok. How do I stop "Extra Files" appearing in the log? How do I stop these silly "100%" lines appearing in the log? I've tried every combination of switch I can think of (the current switches are listed above in the command), but neither seem to hide these!

  • Software distribution from web server to client using PHP/FTP

    I develop and maintain a number of add-ons and utilities for various widget (mainly aMember) which generally means I need to install php based codes onto other people's systems. Whilst I have a VPS and have access to rsync and all sorts of yummy tools most of the people I deal with have a basic ftp access and that's all folks. To upload from my local system is also a problem as I am satellite based (two-way) so it is fairly slow and expensive and in any case the files are already on my server. So there is no rsync, fxp, ssh and I can't really install anything as it is obviously not my system, they would be justifiably miffed if I started installing file managers or other things onto their sites. What I have been trying to find is a utility that I can run on my server from the web, preferably php based, that will be like a file manager but a bit different. Two panels. LH-Side the local server .. pretty much like a standard FM application RH-Side ability to login via FTP to the clients system Then I can fiddle as required. The closest thing I have found is net2ftp but it doesn't have the gui interface, at the moment I simply ssh into my server power up ncftp and run that way, but something easier to use would be mucho niceness.     I'm trying to setup backup scripts on WinXP to use Volume Shadow Sets. I downloaded the VSS 7.2 SDK from MSFT, and used the include vshadow.exe to create a shadow set: vshadow -script=vss-setvar.cmd f: (note that I've tried both f: and c:) vshadow executes just find, giving no errors, reporting the shadow is created. However, executing vshadow -q as the very next command results in "There are no shadows on the system" and, indeed, if I use dosdev to try and map the Shadow set named in vss-setvar.cmd, it will not work. Am I missing a step?

  • linux to linux, 10TB transfer?

    I've looked at all the previous similar questions, but the answers seemed to be all over the place and no one was moving a lot of data (100GB != 10TB). I've got about 10TB that I need to move from one raid to another, gigabit net, XFS file systems. My biggest concern is having the transfer die midway and not being able to resume easily. Speed would be nice, but ensuring transfer is much more important. Normally I'd just tar & netcat, but the raid I'm moving from has been super flaky as of late and I need to be able to recover and resume if it drops mid process. Should I be looking at rsync?

    I have two servers running Virtual server 2005 R2 SP1. I'm using Symantec Backup Exec 10d for backups. One server runs the backups fine but the other will cause the vm's to crash when it tries to backup. I think the problem is because the "Microsoft Vitual Server 2005 Writer" is not showing up when I run "vssadmin list writers". Can I install the writer without reinstalling VS 2005?

    There a a few questions related to using DFSR and Shadow Copies together, but none that indicates if Shadow Copies replicate or not. Meaning, if I have a a pair of DFS replicas with Shadow Copies on Server-A, can I revert that file to a previous version on Server-B? If so, will that reversion be replicated back to Server-A? I suspect not- that VSS is a local NTFS feature and outside the scope of replication, but I cannot verify that myself at the moment.

    There are many changes to Finder, Dock, etc. preferences that you can do with the defaults command, i.e. defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool yes However, in order to make the changes take effect, you must quit and relaunch the target app: osascript -e 'tell app "Finder" to quit' When the Finder is quit like this (rather than using the killall command, as some published sources advise), it saves and restores its window placements and disk locations (but not the forward-and-back history associated with each window). Is there some way to make such changes take effect immediately, without quitting the target app? After all, when you make changes in the Dock preference panel, they take effect instantly in the Dock application. Is there some Apple Event that I can send to make the change or make the app reread its prefs?

  • I disconnected my cellphone while transferring files to its Mini SD card. Now the files aren't there

    I use Ubuntu 9.10, and the MiniSD card shows as having the space used as if there were files. Baobab (the disk usage analyzer) shows that the card only has 118 MB used (of the 401 Ubuntu claims there are). Of course, I already tried the obvious (rebooting the phone, adding and removing files, etc.), but I don't want to format my card, because I still have some files on it, the transfer to my computer is slow, and because I use an old wire it fails often.
