  • Give back full control to a user on a disk from another computer

    I have my friend's hard drive mounted externally. After messing with the permissions with TAKEOWN so I could fix some viruses, I have full control over their drive. The problem is, now it's stuck in a "autochk not found" reboot sequence. I think the problem is that the boot sector is invisible to the drive now. So my question is, How can I use icacls to give back the full ownership, when the user I am giving it to is not on my machine? I ran the TAKEOWN command from my windows 7 laptop, their machine is a windows xp Professional with three partitions, I only altered the one that has the boot sector.     So, as described on this msdn page, when you define a Connection String for SQL Server Compact 3.5, you can use the "Data Directory" macro, like this: quote from this msdn page: Data Directory Support SQL Server Compact 3.5 now supports the Data Directory macro. This means that if you add the string |DataDirectory| (enclosed in pipe symbols) to a file path, it will resolve to the path of the database. For example, consider the connection string: "Data Source= c:\program files\MyApp\Mydb.sdf" When using Data Directory, you can instead use the following connection string: "Data Source = |DataDirectory|\Mydb.sdf" For more information, see How to: Deploy a SQL Server Compact 3.5 Database with an Application. However, the 'for more information' link on msdn doesn't actually give any more information. So my question is: How does the |Data Directory| macro translate at run time? For WinForm apps, it seems to just give the location of the executable. Or is it more complicated than that?

    I have a remote share in windows 7 and accessing the same share from windows 2008.   • Why is PackageInfo.requestedPermissions always null?

    I'm trying to enumerate all the permissions used by all the installed packages, however when I check the requestedPermissions property for each of my installed packages it is always null.     I have some questions about the cache directory in android. Does anyone knows the limit for each app's cache directory? Also what will happen if there is not enough disk space to cache data? All I know is when the device runs low on storage, the files here (cache directory)will be the ones that get deleted first and each app has its own cache directory. Now, are the files of other app's cache directory will be cleared to accommodate my app's request to add files in the cache dir when there is not enough storage?

  • .config file not loaded from working directory

    I am new to using .config files, having worked on apps that use .INI files and the registry until very recently. I am seeing a behavior in VS2008 that I would not anticipate, and wonder if it is the expected one. When I configure the Working Directory setting in the VS2008 IDE for my Foo.exe application, I would have guessed that Foo.exe.config would get loaded from that Working Directory. It does not; it gets loaded from the ..\bin\Debug directory, even if I have a Foo.exe.config file in that Working Directory. If I examine the Environment.CurrentDirectory while the configuration is being applied by setting a breakpoint, I see that it is ..\bin\Debug. When I examine the Environment.CurrentDirectory after my main UI's Loaded event, it is set to the Working Directory I applied in the IDE. Is this correct? (Why?)

    Hello, We have to learn VB.NET for the semester, my experience lies mainly with C# - not that this should make a difference to this particular problem. I've used just about the most simple way to save a file using the .NET framework, but Windows 7 won't let me save the file anywhere (or anywhere that I have found yet). Here is the code I am using to save a text file. Dim dialog As FolderBrowserDialog = New FolderBrowserDialog() Dim saveLocation As String = dialog.SelectedPath ... Build up output string ... I've tried running the .exe file as administrator, and the IDE as administrator. Is this just Windows 7 being overprotective? And if so, what can I do to solve this problem?   • Iphone - cannot grant permission for publishing on a Facebook page that i administer

    I want to open a dialog on the IPhone so a user can grant my application permission to post on a Facebook page that the user administers. Following the docs, I can grant permissions for the user's stream and I can even post on a page that he is a fan of. However, the post on the page is listed as from the username, not on behalf of the page itself, even though he is an administrator of the page. According to the Prompting for Permissions section at: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Authorization_and_Authentication_for_Desktop_Applications I should be able to create a prompt on the IPhone for granting permission to publish_stream on a Facebook page that he administers. The sample url they give for a web "popup" dialog is: http://www.facebook.com/connect/prompt_permissions.php?api_key=YOURAPIKEY&v=1.0&next=http://www.facebook.com/connect/login_success.html?xxRESULTTOKENxx&display=popup&ext_perm=read_stream,publish_stream&enable_profile_selector=1&profile_selector_ids=1234%2C5454 This works as expected and a drop down of the pages is displayed. However, since my application is on the IPhone, I change the display=popup to display=touch. This does not seem to work and I've tried fiddling with the parameters several ways but the drop down never comes up. Anyone find a way around this? The popup option doesn't seem to work since I get an error trying to display it.

  • ClickOnce permissions

    We recently updated our main website. This included creating a new directory to hold the new site; then, some of the existing subdirectories needed to be copied over. Some of the virtual directories below the main site are clickonce publishing locations. These have been 100% successful publishing locations for 3 years now. We would update the application in Visual Studio and then publish... painless. Very long story short, since we've copied the directories to the new main site location on disk, all of our clickonce sites except one will no longer publish. They all fail with an error saying "you are not authorized to perform the current operation". This is immeidately after we set permissions to Full Control for my domain user group. I've checked everything I know how to check as far as permissions go and made the non-working ones' permissions match the one that does work, but no joy. We had problems on Friday and I fixed the one site that does work, but I can't remember how I fixed it; all I remember is that it took a long time screwing with it to make it work. Could there be some arcane setting in IIS that has been omitted? Is there a simple list of things to check anywhere on the Net? ClickOnce information is scattered among 50,000 URLs and I haven't been able to figure it out again. Thanks

  • Mac CoreLocation Services does not ask for permissions

    I'm writing a Mac App that needs to use CoreLocation services. The code and location works fine, as long as I manually authenticate the service inside the security preference pane. However the framework is not automatically popping up with a permission dialog. The documentation states: Important The user has the option of denying an application’s access to the location service data. During its initial uses by an application, the Core Location framework prompts the user to confirm that using the location service is acceptable. If the user denies the request, the CLLocationManager object reports an appropriate error to its delegate during future requests. I do get an error to my delegate, and the value of +locationServicesEnabled is correct on CLLocationManager. The only part missing is the prompt to the user about permissions. This occurs on my development MPB and a friends MBP. Neither of us can figure out whats wrong. Has anyone run into this? Relevant code: _locationManager = [CLLocationManager new]; [_locationManager setDelegate:self]; [_locationManager setDesiredAccuracy:kCLLocationAccuracyKilometer]; ... [_locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; UPDATE: Answer It seems there is a problem with Sandboxing in which the CoreLocation framework is not allowed to talk to com.apple.CoreLocation.agent. I suspect this agent is responsible for prompting the user for permissions. If you add the Location Services Entitlement (com.apple.security.personal-information.location) it only gives your app the ability to use the CL framework. However you also need access to the CoreLocation agent to ask the user for permissions. You can give your app access by adding the entitlement 'com.apple.security.temporary-exception.mach-lookup.global-name' with a value of 'com.apple.CoreLocation.agent'. Users will be prompted for access automatically like you would expect. I've filed a bug to apple on this already.

    Hi everybody, I've got a piece of code that logs into Facebook, gets a session, sets status_update and offline_access permission if they are not set, and gets a new session with the newly set permissions. This code used to work fine but now I'm getting error 100 "One of the parameters specified was missing or invalid" as a response to the second call to get session and I can't figure out why. The only thing that seems to work is logging out the user after they've authorized the permissions and having them log back in again. I'd like to avoid this if possible. Can you have two outstanding sessions at one time? This code used to work but I'm thinking maybe something changed on Facebook's end that I'm not aware of. Thanks, kris

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - VPN Folder Sharing Permissions

    I have setup VPN access to my Windows Server 2008 R2 server using RRAS. Clients can connect, run applications, view shares etc. My problem is that one of the applications that they use relies on some network shares. The application is not able to access the shares unless the user first goes into Windows Explorer and accesses the share, providing their user name and password (the same one that they use to connect via the VPN). Previously on a different Windows Server 2008 (not R2) this was not necessary i.e. the application and user could access the share without providing another user name and password. I have tried giving the Everyone group full control over the shared folder - both on the Security tab and in the Permissions area under Advanced Sharing on the Sharing tab. This still did not resolve the issue. (I don't really want to give Everyone access anyway - I was hoping that granting access to a group that the VPN users had membership of would be enough). I have also turned off password protected sharing in the Advanced Sharing Settings area of the Network and Sharing Center (under both Home or Work and Public). So my question is what is preventing my VPN users from having access to these folders without having to re-supply the same login and password that they use to access the VPN? And what is the best practice in this type of scenario?

EDIT: All the directories are in the same directory. Destination is one directory on the system which could be anything. We read directory and read file form it and rename it exactly as the directory name and put it to the destination.   • Windows Share permissions

    I have a SQL/File server that I am replicating a File Share and SQL instance, using ArcServer RHA, to a Replica server. Everything seems to work as far as the replication of the SLQ instance and Share is concerned. When I fail over to the Replica server the DNS Host A record is modified to point to the Replica Server IP Address so if I do an NSLOOKUP on ServerA it then points to the IP Address of ServerB. Ans since the SQL instance is named the same I can still map my ODBC connections to ServerA and I can still make a SQL connection. When I try to do a \ServerA\Share I get an error that says I do not have permissions to the Share. I think this is because it uses keberose authentication and the Share is tied to the actual sever host name. I have tried puting in a CNAME and pointing it to ServerA and Disabling Strict Name Checking on ServerB as well as adding the CNAME to the OptionalNames in the registry but I am still getting the error when I have the ServerA powered off. Is there a way to reset the Authentication of the Share to use the DNS Cname?

  • Basics about file/folder permissions on Win 7

    Hi. Under Win XP I never touched the permissions of a file/folder. I was happy with the way it worked. But recently I installed Windows 7 on a drive that previously hosted Windows XP. Now, some programs do not have 'read' and/or 'write' access to their own folders - and I am not talking about system folders like 'Program Files' but normal folders like 'C:\my data\my own folder\program folder'. I see that for folders created under Win XP I have some user groups that do not exist for 'normal' folders (folders created by me recently under Windows 7). For example, for the Win XP folder I have: Creator owner System Account unknown(S-1-5-21 blablabla... Admins Users For Win7 folders I have: Authenticated users System Admins Users How should I proceed? Should I give the right to the "Users" account to write to XP folders? Should I make the old folders (the XP folders) to have the same groups of users as the normal (Win7) ones by adding the "Authenticated users" account to those folders? Should I delete the "Account unknown" account from my system? (In this case, how?) Many thanks.

  • How do I install PyYAML into local install of Python?

    I've installed Python 2.6.4 into (a subdirectory in) my home directory on a Linux machine with Python 2.3.4 pre-installed, because I need to run some code that I've decided would require too much work to make it run on 2.3.4. (I'm not on the sudoers list for that machine.) I was hoping I could run ~/Python-2.6.4/python setup.py install (from the PyYAML directory in my home directory, where I untarred the PyYAML sources) and it would be smart enough to install it into my local Python 2.6.4 install. But it's not. (See the P.S.) Is it possible to install PyYAML into my local Python install, so that "import yaml" will work when I invoke that Python? If so, how do I do that? P.S.   • Directory Browsing on Apache

    I am listing a couple of stuff that I want people to download for my school and remembered that some sites had directory browsing done with cool little icons displaying the file types. I wanted to do this myself and felt that the default directory browsing of apache is just too plain and IndexOptions +FancyIndexing is a bit 'old'. Any nice jQuery based Web 2.0ish stuff out there for this particular purpose. The files are .debs, .exes, .iso, .zip etc. Thanks!

  • Where is the plugins directory for Turnkey Trac?

    Hello, I setup a Turnkey Trac virtual machine and am trying to set up the LdapPlugin to use use authentication through a local Active Directory. I tried using easy_install http://trac-hacks.org/svn/ldapplugin/ to install it and it claimed to have completed, however when I go to the Admin page and go to plugins, it is not listed. I have never setup a Turnkey server like this before and was wondering in which directory the Trac plugins are located on the Turnkey-linux machine? Thanks, Tomek

  • Windows remote administration suite that doesn't rely on Active Directory, Domains, etc

    I know there are a number of suites out there that allow Windows machines on a Domain, or in Active Directory to be remotely administrated (windows updates, program installs, maintenance, etc); but does there exist a package that does this for non-AD/Domain setups? The kind of things I'm looking for: manage windows updates, + automatic applying custom package pushing (custom scripts, etc) general maintenance, visibily of health works for 2003/2008/2008R2 works without Active Directory or being part of a Domain (Might be able to manage putting all the machines on a Workgroup, if that helps)
