• Database Table design for Weekdays and Values

  Guys, I would love to here your ideas on this. I am creating a table which will store weekly shift hours for employees. for example: Jon works 9:00am tp 9:00pm Monday , 10:00 AM to 5:00PM on Tuseday etc.... How should i go on designing this table. I thought of 2 options. (1) For every record I can have two lines for AM and PM and have columns for Monday to Sunday ID | ParentID | Type | Monday | Tuseday ......Sunday 1 | 1 | AM | 9:00 | 9:00 12:00 2 | 1 | PM | 9:00 | 5:00 02:00 3 | 2 | AM | 10:00 | 4 | 2 | PM | 10:00 | (2) I can save Preference in XML format in one column ID | Info 1 | |Hours|Monday|9:00 AM - 9:00PM|Monday|Tuseday........|Hours Any better ideas ? • Ruby on Rails updating join table records

  Hey, I have two models Users and Roles. I have setup a many to many relationship between the two models and I have a joint table called roles_users. I have a form on a page with a list of roles which the user checks a checkbox and it posts to the controller which then updates the roles_users table. At the moment in my update method I am doing this because I am not sure of a better way: role_ids = params[:role_ids] user.roles.clear role_ids.each do |role| user.roles << Role.find(role) end unless role_ids.nil? So I am clearing all the entries out then looping threw all the role ids sent from the form via post, I also noticed that if all the checkboxes are checked and the form posted it keeps adding duplicate records, could anyone give some advice on a more efficent way of doing this?

  I've a table which has 3 columns: id, a_id and b_id. Suppose rows are like this: 1, a1, b1 2, a1, b2 3, a1, b3 4, a2, b4 5, a2, b5 6, a2, b6 I want to convert it to 1, a1, b1 2, a1, b1 3, a1, b1 4, a2, b4 5, a2, b4 6, a2, b4 So I want to make all the b_id corresponding to a_id same, and equal to the one which is found first. How can I do this? For simplicity, I've removed other columns from table. So please ignore row duplication here.

  Hi, I am using data grid view to display items as excel spread sheet in VB.NET. I got a table named CostTypes with column names [CostTypeID, CostType] and values [1,External] and [2,Internal] (These are constant but more values can be added to table). I want to create columns with names of the values[External , Internal] in DataGridView. If I use databiding directly I get columns [CostTypeID,CostType] which is not what I am looking for. If some one could explain how to create columns at runtime in datagridview or how to retrieve data from data base using LINQ so that [External , Internal] turn out to be columns that would be great.   I am storing the response to various rpc calls in a mysql table with the following fields: Table: rpc_responses timestamp (date) method (varchar) id (varchar) response (mediumtext) PRIMARY KEY(timestamp,method,id) What is the best method of selecting the most recent responses for all existing combinations of method and id? For each date there can only be one response for a given method/id. Not all call combinations are necessarily present for a given date.   Hello A client of mine has had an HD crash an a SQL DB got corrupt : They did not make backups so they have a big problem. When I tried (an ultimate measure) to DBCC-repair I got the following message. Can anybody help me with this ? Server: Msg 8966, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Could not read and latch page (1:872) with latch type SH. sysindexes failed. Server: Msg 8944, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Table error: Object ID 2, index ID 0, page (1:872), row 11. Test (columnOffsets->IsComplex (varColumnNumber) && (ColumnId == COLID_HYDRA_TEXTPTR || ColumnId == COLID_INROW_ROOT || ColumnId == COLID_BACKPTR)) failed. Values are 2 and 5. The repair level on the DBCC statement caused this repair to be bypassed. CHECKTABLE found 0 allocation errors and 1 consistency errors in table 'sysindexes' (object ID 2). DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.

  Is it possible to configure Hibernate reverse engineering and code generation tool in such a way that one-to-many relation between tables is mapped to entities inheritance instead of enrites relation? I have Person table and Employee table, which are related with the foreign key (Person contains basic information, Employee the rest). In my Java code I would like this relation mapped to inheritance Employee extends Person. This can be done by hand, but maybe I missed some custom configuration parameter that I can use.   Hi... I've have a table view that consist of item list that depends on the item that were purchased using in app purchasing. My question was how can I reload the tableView when the purchasing was completed/(or when new item was added on my list). The response of the storekit takes time to complete. Are there anyways to tell the app that the purchasing was completed and new item was added on my list so that I can reload my tableView. At this time I reloading my table view by adding [myTableView reloadData] in viewWillAppear method. But what if the user was already viewing the tableView, I can't reload the tableView because the viewWillAppear had passed. thanks...

  Please see screenshot Goal: id like to have comments nested 1 level deep The comments would be arranged so that rating of the parent is in descending order the rating of the children comments is irrelevant The left hand side of the screenshot shows the output that Id like. The RHS shows the table data. All of the comments are held in 1 table. Im a beginner with SQL queries, the best I can do is: SELECT * FROM [Comments] WHERE ([ArticleId] = @ArticleId) ORDER BY [ThreadId] DESC, [DateMade] This somewhat does the job, but it obviously neglects the rating. So the above statement would show output where Bobs Comment and all of the children comments are before Amy's and her childrens comments. How can I run this query correctly?

Why does this left join query not give the same result for a query and a table? And how can i get the right results using a query in the left join?

  I've got a data model that has two tables with a join table for a many to many relationship & creating an OData service to expose the data for CRUD ops in a Silverlight app. What I'd like to do is abstract the join table from the service. I'm not sure if the best way to do this would be in the model (using EF in .NET3.5SP1) or if I should do it with a custom service operation. If I do it in the EF model (not sure how I'd do this), then the OOTB WCF Data Service stuff would make it easy to say [..]/Courses(1)/Modules ... otherwise I'd have to create a custom operation to do this. Is it possible to do this in the EF model and if so, how does that work?

  Hi I was trying to use the pager plugin that comes with the tablesorter plugin but I can't get it to work as you can see from my previous post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2836680/need-help-with-jquery-tablesorter-pager-plugin. I given up on this plugin as no one can seem to come up with a solution how to make it work and I kinda need to get this place soon. So now I am looking for a new one but it must have the following features. Work on tables Work on tables that have the tablesorter 2.0 plugin on it( so I don't want a pager plugin that comes with its own table sorter since I don't want to change that. It should be a standalone pager plugin). Be able to add rows dynamically to the table and some how update the pager so this row now becomes part of the pager. Thanks

  Hi In my app i'm using a UITableViewController ("grouped style") which in one of its section I want the user to be able to see what he had selected by making this cell colored and other "uncolored". Doing it by updating all cells' background color and reloading table data, each time user touches a cell (in didSelectRowAtIndexPath:) Problem is that there is some processing made in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath: so the color doesn't get changed right a way, rather in a bit delay after touch was made. (I gusse the processing is the resone for the tiny delay) Is there a better way of doing it? Any help will be appreciated Liron P.S. I'm new to all of this...

  Given the remote server 'Production' (currently accessible via an IP) and the local database 'Development', how can I run an INSERT into 'Development' from 'Production' using T-SQL? I'm using MS SQL 2005 and the table structures are a lot different between the two databases hence the need for me to manually write some migration scripts. UPDATE: T-SQL really isn't my bag. • Rails: has_many association with a table in another database and without foreign key

  Here is my situation. I have model called Account. An account can have one or more contracts. The problem is that i'm dealing with a legacy application and each account's contracts are stored in a different database. Example: Account 1's contract are in account1_db.contracts. Account 2's contract are in account2_db.contracts. The database name is a field stored in accounts table. How can i make rails association work with this? This is a legacy PHP application and i simply can't change it to store everything in one table. I need to make it work somehow.   Hello, I have an SQL-table holding the last hands received by a player in card game. The hand is represented by an integer (32 bits == 32 cards): create table pref_hand ( id varchar(32) references pref_users, hand integer not NULL check (hand > 0), stamp timestamp default current_timestamp ); As the players are playing constantly and that data isn't important (just a gimmick to be displayed at player profile pages) and I don't want my database to grow too quickly, I'd like to keep only up to 10 records per player id. So I'm trying to declare this PL/PgSQL procedure: create or replace function pref_update_game(_id varchar, _hand integer) returns void as $BODY$ begin delete from pref_hand offset 10 where id=_id order by stamp; insert into pref_hand (id, hand) values (_id, _hand); end; $BODY$ language plpgsql; but unfortunately this fails with: ERROR: syntax error at or near "offset" because delete doesn't support offset.   What's the cleanest way to constrain a SQL table to allow it to have no more than one row? This related question discusses why such a table might exist, but not how the constraint should be implemented. So far I have only found hacks involving a unique key column that is constrained to have a specific value, e.g. ALWAYS_0 TINYINT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY DEFAULT (0) CONSTRAINT CHECK_ALWAYS_0 CHECK (ALWAYS_0 = 0). I am guessing there is probably a cleaner way to do it. The ideal solution would be portable SQL, but a solution specific to MS SQL Server or postgres would also be useful
