    $_SERVER['REMOTE_USER'] returns the username of the user logged in to an Active Directory. I want to retrive this users info by using ldap_search(). This is what I have now: $ad = // ldap_connection id $filter = "(|(sn=$username*)(givenname=$username*))"; $attr = array("displayname", "mail", "mobile", "homephone", "telephonenumber", "streetaddress", "postalcode", "physicaldeliveryofficename", "l"); $dn = // OU, DC etc.. ldap_search($ad,$dn,$filter,$attr); It works, but i'm not sure it will work if two users have almost the same names. How do I only search for their unique username so that i always only get one user?

Also, is there a standard format mentioned by Microsoft on how an OU should be created and what its attributes are ? I found this in Wikipedia "However, Organizational Units are just an abstraction for the administrator, and do not function as true containers; the underlying domain operates as if objects were all created in a simple flat-file structure, without any OUs. It is not possible for example to create two user accounts with an identical username in two separate OUs, such as "fred.staff-ou.domain" and "fred.student-ou.domain"."

    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to setup a development environment for active directory? We are thinking of using development.contoso.com or something along those lines that is a completely separate envnironment from our production. This will be used for things like Dev SharePoint and possibly a Dev exchange server. Maybe even a dev CRM. We are thinking of setting this up all using virtual machines. Possibly having the production get replicated down on a regular basis as well. Does anyone have an experience with this or any suggestions on what to do or not to do for this?

  • SSRS2008R2 report times out, but the underlying query executes in the Management Studio

    A customer of mine recently moved servers and the new server has SQL2008R2. His old server was SQL2005. The new server has substantially better CPU, RAM, and disk performance than the old, but several reports time out while executing. When I run the underlying query in the SQL Management Studio, the query executes in sub-second time. The exact error message returned via the Report Manager UI is: An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. (rsReportServerDatabaseError) Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. It must be noted that this database is not just analytical; it's also fairly transactional, although the transaction volume is not exceptionally high. What can I do to improve the performance of the SSRS query engine? Are there settings in the data source I can adjust, or in the SSRS config files?

  • Mysql Query - That Is Returning Blatanty Incorrect Result

    I am building a VPS node that is running Ubuntu 10.10LTS, Apache2, Mysql 5.1 and php5. I could not log in to my website admin through the browser, even though I am using the correct login details. So I logged in from the command line to check the results. When I run this query I get expected results: mysql> select * from users; +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ | id | username | email | password | +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ | 1 | myUserName | [email protected] | myPassword | +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ And the same goes for this query: mysql> select * from users where id = 1; +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ | id | username | email | password | +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ | 1 | myUserName | [email protected] | myPassword | +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) But when I run this query I get this 'unexpected response': mysql> select * from users where username = 'myUserName' and password = 'myPassword'; Empty set (0.00 sec) I am not sure why this is happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW.. I will be encrypting the user details but for now I just want to get it set up. Please help, Thanks

  • Automating Access 2007 Queries (changing one criteria)

    So, I have 6 queries and I want to run them all once at the end of each month. (I know a bit about SQL but they're simply built using Access's design view). So, in the next few days, perhaps I'll run the 6 queries for May, as May just ended. I only want the data from the month that just ended, so the query has Criteria set as the name of the month (e.g., May). Now, it's not hugely time consuming to change all of these each month, but is there some way to automate this? Currently, they're all set to April and I want to change them all to May when I run them in a few days. And each month, I'd like to type the month (perhaps in a textbox in a form or somewhere else if you know a better way) just once and have it change all 6 queries, without having to manually open all 6, scroll over to the right field and change the Criteria. Note (about VBA): I have used Excel VBA so I know the basics of VBA but I don't really know anything specific to Access (other than seeing code a few times). And, others will use this who do not know anything about Access VBA. So, I think I have found a similar question/answer that could do this in VBA, but I'd rather do it some other way. If the query needs to be slightly redesigned later, probably by someone who doesn't know Access VBA at all, it'd be nice to have a solution not involving VBA if that is even possible.

I wont accept an answer until I can add a bounty so feel free to go ahead and answer now Summary Long story short, we've been tasked with gutting the authentication and authorization parts of a fairly old and bloated asp.net application that previously had all of these components written from scratch. Since our application isn't a typical one, and none of us have experience in asp.net's built in membership provider stuff, we're not sure if we should roll our own authentication and authorization again or if we should try to work within the asp.net membership provider mindset and develop our own membership provider. Our Application We have a fairly old asp.net application that gets installed at customer locations to service clients on a LAN. Admins create users (users do not sign up) and depending on the install, we may have the software integrated with LDAP. Currently, the LDAP integration bulk-imports the users to our database and when they login, it authenticates against LDAP so we dont have to manage their passwords. Nothing amazing there. Admins can assign users to 1 group and they can change the authorization of that group to manage access to various parts of the software. Groups are maintained by Admins (web based UI) and as said earlier, granted / denied permissions to certain functionality within the application. All this was completely written from the ground up without using any of the built in .net authorization or authentication. We literally have IsLoggedIn() methods that check for login and redirect to our login page if they aren't. Our Rewrite We've been tasked to integrate more tightly with LDAP, they want us to tie groups in our application to groups (or whatever types of containers that LDAP uses) in LDAP so that when a customer opt's to use our LDAP integration, they dont have to manage their users in LDAP AND in our application. The new way, they will simply create users in LDAP, add them to Groups in LDAP and our application will see that they belong to the appropriate LDAP group and authenticate and authorize them. In addition, we've been granted the go ahead to completely rip out the User authentication and authorization code and completely re-do it. Our Problem The problem is that none of us have any experience with asp.net membership provider functionality. The little bit of exposure I have to it makes me worry that it was not intended to be used for an application such as ours. Though, developing our own ASP.NET Membership Provider and Role Manager sounds like it would be a great experience and most likely the appropriate thing to do. Basically, I'm looking for advice, should we be using the ASP.NET Membership provider & Role Management API or should we continue to roll our own? I know this decision will be influenced by our requirements so I'm going over them below Our Requirements Just a quick n dirty list Maintain the ability to have a db of users and authenticate them and give admins (only, not users) the ability to CRUD users Allow the site to integrate with LDAP, when this is chosen, they don't want any users stored in the DB, only the relationship between Groups as they exist in our app / db and the Groups/Containers as they exist in LDAP. .net 3.5 is being used (mix of asp.net webforms and asp.net mvc) Has to work in ASP.NET and ASP.NET MVC (shouldn't be a problem I'm guessing) This can't be user centric, administrators need to be the only ones that CRUD (or import via ldap) users and groups We have to be able to Auth via LDAP when its configured to do so I always try to monitor my questions closely so feel free to ask for more info. Also, as a general summary of what I'm looking for in an answer is just. "You should/shouldn't use xyz, here's why".     New to subsonic and having issues figuring it out. I am simply just trying to do a distinct search and any documentation I find is telling me to use the class/method SubSonic.SqlQuery Though I am finding out that since I am using the newest version, a lot of the documentation I am finding does not apply. For example, I am getting this query working beautifully using Subsonic.Query.SqlQuery though there is NO distinct method hanging off of it as suggested by what I have seen. Please advice!   • Slow query with unexpected index scan

    Hello I have this query: SELECT * FROM sample INNER JOIN test ON sample.sample_number = test.sample_number INNER JOIN result ON test.test_number = result.test_number WHERE sampled_date BETWEEN '2010-03-17 09:00' AND '2010-03-17 12:00' the biggest table here is RESULT, contains 11.1M records. The left 2 tables about 1M. this query works slowly (more than 10 minutes) and returns about 800 records. executing plan shows clustered index scan (over it's PRIMARY KEY (result.result_number, which actually doesn't take part in query)) over all 11M records. RESULT.TEST_NUMBER is a clustered primary key. if I change 2010-03-17 09:00 to 2010-03-17 10:00 - i get about 40 records. it executes for 300ms. and plan shows index seek (over result.test_number index) if i replace * in SELECT clause to result.test_number (covered with index) - then all become fast in first case too. this points to hdd IO issues, but doesn't clarifies changing plan. so, any ideas? UPDATE: sampled_date is in table sample and covered by index. other fields from this query: test.sample_number is covered by index and result.test_number too. UPDATE 2: obviously than sql server in any reasons don't want to use index. i did a small experiment: i remove INNER JOIN with result, select all test.test_number and after that do SELECT * FROM RESULT WHERE TEST_NUMBER IN (...) this, of course, works fast. but i cannot get what is the difference and why query optimizer choose such inappropriate way to select data in 1st case.
