• Bastion on ubuntu 12.04 64bit black screen

  I just downloaded the Humblebundle with bastion. After installing Bastion and starting it up, only a blank screen shows the the mouse arrow. I can here the sound fine. I read a message board that recommended starting it with -windowed -x 1280 -y 720 which does not work. I am on ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, with a intel 3000 integrated graphics card. Does anyone know how I can get this to work properly? thank you.

  I was using ubuntu 10.10 from last year. every thing was Ok with that. recently I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 in place of 10.10, after installing that on my Dell laptop, I started to feel uncomfortable. It to slow event if you move mouse then its feel like i'll take 1min to move one place 2 another.. I know why this is happening, all because of 12.04 runs my CPU up to 99%-100% all over time. And there are 2-3 processes who use all the cpu.. like 1. System_Monitor 2. compiz I don't know why its use all the CPU even Other app can't able to run .. in Ubuntu 10.10 every think was Ok.. • Bastion unexpectedly exits when I move my cursor

  I downloaded the Humble Indie Bundle V, mostly because my friend told me about how great Bastion was. When I first installed it, I was getting the seemingly common "black screen" error that most people got (fixed that half with this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11992661). But I also have an error where every time I move my cursor, in any direction, any amount, the game closes instantly. I can use the keyboard no problem, but without fail, every time I move my mouse, it crashes. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Has anyone encountered anything like this before? I am worried it may be a hardware issue, but hoping someone might be able to help me out. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Studio 1558. Graphics card is the stock Intel graphics card, running on 4 GB of RAM.

  I was looking at this post How to create a screencast? which mentions some of the Video Recorders (Screencast) that I was looking for but some of them are more than 8 months old with not one single update made to them. Am looking for a Screencast that is at least update recently and that I know that if I keep using it I could count on it being updated. The most important part is video recording but sound is good too. Maybe a windows area, mouse tracking, etc.. But it needs to be up to date and not abandoned or very old. And of course that works in 11.10 and has in mind to work in 12.04.

• Ubuntu 13.10 japanese keyboard layout intercepts Caps Lock

  I've installed Ubuntu 13.10 (clean install on new machine), there are lot of changes for configuring keyboard layouts and I've tried to configure it as I've used earlier: Englis (US), Russian and Japanese (Anthy) with switching between them with Caps Lock key. (See screenshot) Caps Lock switching works fine between Russian and English and vice-versa, but with Japanese I can switch only TO Japanese (not FROM), in Japanese layout Caps Lock starting to work as usual Caps Lock (as a switch between small and BIG letters), so I need to use mouse to switch back to Ru or En layout. This happens ONLY with Japanese layouts (I've tried also simply "Japanese" and "Japanese (Kana)"), not with Chinese, Korean or anything else. I'm not sure who is blame for that, is it ibus-anthy or anything. Please help, I want to use Caps Lock to switch between all layouts. • Steady zoom on center in LWJGL (Modelview)

  I am having a problem in LWJGL with zooming in and out. I am using glScaled(zoom, zoom, 1) before glTranslated. There are 2 problems: 1. The rate of zoom speeds up a lot when zooming out (lower zoom value). 2. It zooms in on the bottom left corner of the screen rather than the center. Eventually, I would like to have the zoom focused on the mouse position. I have tried to fix these problems by make it glScaled(zoom^12, zoom^12, 1) so that the greater the zoom value, the faster it will zoom in order to balance out the faster zoom at lower zoom values. To compensate for the zoom focused on the bottom left, I have tried to subtract (zoom+1)^10 + 2^10 from the X and Y of each sprite. This results in a curved zoom path, first to the left and then to the right. It is a 2D game.

• Where do I have to paste an "xinput" command so that it executes it when GNOME is started?

  On my Thinkpad I need to execute something like this in the terminal: xinput set-int-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" "Evdev Middle Button Emulation" 8 1 so that my the 2 buttons on my touchpad emulate the middle mouse click. Now I need this line to be executed each time I start GNOMe or X or whatever, so that it "just works". I tried ~/.xsession or ~/.bashrc but to no avail. Should I put it in GNOME start scripts or in /etc/X somewhere? I'm using Ubuntu 11.10.

• Trouble switching to Dvorak on Ubuntu 12.04

  I've decided to switch to Dvorak on my Ubuntu machine, but I'm having some trouble: First, I attempted to do this through the GUI -- System Settings - Keyboard Layout - add layout (plus sign) - English(programmer Dvorak). This didn't work at first, so I restarted my machine. It seemed to work at the password prompt (if only because QWERTY did not), but I couldn't get it to accept my password. I used the virtual keyboard option to enter my password with mouse clicks (the virtual keyboard was using the programmer's Dvorak Standard) and was able to get in that way. Once logged in, however, I was back to QWERTY. Second, I tried to switch on the command prompt -- $ loadkeys /usr/lib/kbd/keytables/dvorak.map The error message I received was "Couldn't get a file descriptor referring to the console " Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I've looked for a solution for these problems, but couldn't find anything.

• Can't connect VPN/add new VPN connection on 12.04 when using NX

  I remote control my Ubuntu box using NX. I am trying to create a new VPN connection. I click on Configure VPN ? Add ? OpenVPN ? Create then I get a "Editing VPN connection 1" window but everything is grayed out, and I can't edit it. The only button I can click is Cancel. The reason I bring up NX is because if I plug in a monitor keyboard and mouse, I can create, edit import VPN connections just fine. So I imported all the different VPN connections, everything was fine. I then remoted back into the Ubuntu machine with NX, click on my VPN connection, and get VPN Connection Failed - The VPN CONNECTION failed to start. Not authorized to control networking. I then disconnected and reconnected NX, and now all the VPN connections I had imported are gone. Any ideas?

  I'm having problems with Code::Blocks 10.05 my os specs: Ubuntu 11.04 - fresh install gtk theme: Ambiance Unity The actual problem (don't mind the code nor the errors) the most visible one - stripes As I scroll down the code, the horizontal stripes start to show up. I think it's some problem with the screen updating, because when I force it to update (for example by selecting the text or invocating the contextual menu by pressing the right mouse button), the stripes disappear. the second one - font colour bug I believe this is the Ambiance's bug because it doesn't happen in other themes. You can see it in the left panel where it says "Workspace" and in the panel at the bottom in the Build messages tab: the selected line makes the text barely readable. Is there any fix to these bugs?   When it comes to programming games from the old school sega games like sonic to indie games or angry birds or even to more advance games like Diablo, how exactly is level design done? As in, are the levels sometimes designed straight out of code in an IDE? Or do they create a visual level design editor where things can be placed at the click of a mouse button? I'm imagining old school games or very simple ones like indies are done via code, where extremely complicated ones require a visual editor. Is this correct? Also, when it comes to libraries like SDL or XNA, how often are these used rather than just utilizing OpenGL or DirectX? What about creating your own game engine vs utilizing one already made? Do most use already built engines? This question is directed toward the whole gaming spectrum of indie/big game development. Thanks.

• Thinkpad x201 Tablet - Touch doesn't work correctly under 12.04

  running 12.04 on my Thinkpad X201t. On the login screen the touch works fine, the mouse cursor appears where I touch the screen. After I logged in, it doesn't work anymore. If I touch the display, the cursor stays on the point where it was before, it doesn't jump to the touchpoint. I can move it, yes, but its chaotic. With the pen it works fine, but without the touch-function it's not enought for real tablet usage. So, would be glad if touch-function can be fixed. I'm very new to Linux/Ubuntu, so don't know where I can start. Haven't found anything in the system settings & Compiz so far, also no luck in google etc. Would be glad for help ;-). Of course I could go back to 11.04... but I would prefer to stay with the new system. Best, Joachim

• Why does my Ubuntu freeze in the middle of something with a blank screen?

  I am facing a serious problem as my Dell Optiplex 745 loaded with Ubuntu 12.04 32bit freezes with a blank screen no mouse cursor no keyboard activity in many occasions. Sometimes when I open firefox, or software center, I really can't tell what the main problem is, but what i am certain about is it i have to do a hard reset to reboot. I tried to use a live-cd to boot but it did the same, tried the recovery console but couldn't find a way to fix from there (I am a new user) suspected a hardware problem but windows runs flawlessly so I believe its something related to ubuntu. Specs: Intel Celeron D 3.06 GHZ 3.0 GB ram Intel built in graphics Q965 1 TB HDD Bios Phoenex 2.6.4 Please help I really love ubuntu and I don't want to go back to windows!

• System crash when trying to drag cells in LibreOffice Calc

  Some time after upgrady to Saucy I noticed several freezes and crashes when simply trying to drag content of selected cells to another place in LibreOffice Calc (version 4.1.2.3 from repository). The system stops responding - although for example Clementine still plays music from playlist - I am not able to do anything with the mouse (cursor is able to move, but no reaction on clicking). Did anybody of you also have this problem and if yes, do you have a solution? I tried to completely remove LibreOffice and install them again but did not worked for me. Currently avoiding use of drag and drop in Calc but it is stupid. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

• Customizing UPK outputs (Part 2 - Player)

  There are a few things that can be done to give the Player output a personalized look to match your corporate branding. In my previous post, I talked about changing the logo. In addition to the logo, you can change the graphic in the heading, button colors, border colors and many other items. Prior to making any customizations, I strongly recommend making a copy of the existing Player style. This will give you a backup in case things go wrong. I'd also recommend that you create your own brand. This way, when you install the newest updates from us, your brand will remain intact. Creating your own brand is pretty easy. Make sure you have modify permissions on the publishing styles directory, if you are using a multi-user installation. Under the Publishing/Styles folder, create a new folder with your company name. Copy all the publishing styles from the UPK folder to your newly created folder. Now, when you go through the Publishing wizard, you will have two categories to choose from: the UPK category or your custom category. Now, for updating the Player output. First, the graphic that appears on the right hand side of the Player. If you're using a multi-user installation, check out the player style from your custom brand. Open the player style. Open the img folder. The file named "banner_image.png" represents the graphic that appears on the right hand side of the player. It is currently sized at 425 x 54. Try to keep your graphic about the same size. Rename your graphic file to be "banner_image.png", and drag it into the img folder. Save the package. Check in the package if you are in a multi-user installation. You've just updated the banner heading! Next, let's work on updating some of the other colors in the player. All the customizable areas are located in the skin.css file which is in the root of the Player style. Many of our customers update the colors to match their own theme. You don't have to be a programmer to make these changes, honest. :) To change the colors in the player: Make a copy of the original skin.css file. (This is to make sure you have a working version to revert to, in case something goes wrong.) Open the skin.css file from the Player package. You can edit it using Notepad. Make the desired changes. Save the file. Save the package. Publish to view your new changes. When you open the skin.css, you will see groupings like this: .headerDivbar { height: 21px; background-color: #CDE2FD; } Change the value of the background-color to the color of your choice. Note that you cannot use "red" as a color, but rather you should enter the hexadecimal color code. If you don't know the color code, search the web for "hexadecimal colors" and you'll find many sites to provide the information. Here are a few of the variables that you can update. Heading: .headerDivbar -this changes the color of the banner that appears under the graphic Button colors: .navCellOn - changes the color of the mode buttons when your mouse is hovering on them. .navCellOff - changes the color of the mode buttons when the mouse is not over them Lines: .thorizontal - this is the color of the horizontal lines surrounding the outline .tvertical - this is the color of the vertical lines on the left and right margin in the outline. .tsep - this is the color of the line that separates the outline from the content area Search frame: .tocSearchColor - this is the color of the search area .tocFrameText - this is the background color of the TOC tree. Hint: If you want to try out the changes prior to updating the style, you can update the skin.css in some content you've already published for the player (it's located in the css folder of the player package). This way, you can immediately see the changes without going through publishing. Once you're happy with the changes, update the skin.css in player style. Want to customize more? Refer to the "Customizing the Player" section of the Content Development manual for more details on all the options in the skin.css that can be changed, and pictures of what each variable controls. • Dell inspiron 3537 keyboard and touchpad

  With new dell inspiron 3537 keyboard works fine with livecd. Everything stable. Touchpad don't works at all but this is not big deal because I have external mouse. But when i install system on disk and reboot I can't event pass my password to account. Keyboard suspend on second lub some char and repeat(example peteeeeeeeeeeee - stuck on e). I try linux mint(13, 15, 17), ubuntu(12.04, 14.04), fedora - always the same work only on livecd. can't find any solution. Sometimes not suspend on key but only freeze. Whatever i press it's response.

• Dell N7110 i7 overheats and doesn't boot when anything is plugged into the USB3 port

  When i plug in any devices (mouse, keyboard) into usb 3.0 system dell n7110 overheats and fan goes crazy with terrible noise. So i'm using 1 usb 2.0 slot now with a usb hub. It doesn't solve the problem completely but system stays at a low fan rate for a longer time. I've tried to lower CPU frequency, but in my case (DELL INSPIRON N7110 i7 on Linux 3.0.0-14-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 21 20:28:43 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) CPU was pretty cool (51 C) and still the same horrible fan noise. Looks like there is no such problems with ubuntu 10.04 (but there're some other problems). Ubuntu even doesn't boot if anything is plugged into usb 3.0

• Flash completely freeze computer

  Since this morning, and ever so frequently, Flash will completely freeze the computer as soon as something launches it. First, the web page will stop responding, then the entire browser, and after about 2 seconds, the mouse and keyboard will stop responding and the computer will escalate to 100% usage, and all that's left is to perform a hard reboot. I tried re-installing Flash, downgrade my kernel, nothing will do. I'm running Mint 13 64-bit (based on Ubuntu 12.04) with XFCE (not Xubuntu, I installed XFCE as separate package). It never freezes otherwise, so I know it's caused by Flash. How do I solve this issue? What could cause this?

• How can I get six Xbox controllers to provide input to an HTML5 game?

  I'm creating a six player HTML 5 game designed to be played locally (Red Ice). I've previous set up handling 7 Wiimotes using something along the lines of Joy2Key to map each input for each player to a separate keyboard key, but Wiimotes are pretty hard on the hands for these types of games and not very ergonomic so I thought I'd try and get Xbox controller support. I don't believe that any simple key mapping solution will work due to the nature of the directional stick. My inclination is that this will require a browser plugin and if so I'd prefer to write the plugin for Google Chrome. How do I create a Chrome browser plugin to handle multiple Xbox controllers or is there some other way? Please do not answer this question saying it can't be done, because it absolutely can. EDIT: I don't believe any keymapping/mouse simulating solution will work unless it can reliably distinguish six axis of inputs, one per player.
