  • Backup Exec 12.5 or 2010? [closed]

    Backup Exec 2010 has just dropped, and I'm about to implement a new BEWS infrastructure, complete with CALs and new central servers. When I specced this up last year, I ignored 2010 and focused on Backup Exec 12.5, since it's a mature product. In previous experience, major released of BE had numerous technical issues and seemed to improve significantly at the first service pack. However, our refresh cycle on the backup infrastructure is slow, the main driver usually being lack of support for some new server type (in this case, ESX has driven our current upgrade need). With this in mind, I'm wondering if Backup Exec 2010 should be my first choice, as it'll last longer under current support than 12.5, which will approach EOL soon. Has anyone got any perspective they could add to this? Right now, I'm leaning towards biting the bullet and going with 2010.

  • Unable to remove "Run this program as an administrator" (greyed out) with Excel 2010

    I have issue with one of the user in Terminal Server 2008 R2 who has "Run this program as an administrator" checked and greyed out with Excel 2010. This causes UAC to popup requesting for administrator credential whenever user want to start excel. I found in excel 2010 properties Compatibility tab "Run this program as an administrator" is checked and greyed out (Unable to make any change) This issue only occurs in Excel 2010, all other Office programs does not has this option checked and greyed out. Currently UAC is set to Default (Second level to top) Other users in terminal server do not have "Run this program as an administrator" checked and it is NOT greyed out. The user who has issue is in the same group and has the setting as other users who doesn't has the issue in AD. Could anyone advise me how could I remove this "Run this program as an administrator" in option in Excel 2010? Thank you.

  • Edit Enterprise Calendar in Project Server 2010

    Has anyone been able to successfully edit the Standard calendar in 2010? I'm trying to change the working times as none of our admin accounts seem able to do it. We're running Project Server 2010 RTM on SharePoint 2010 RTM with Project Pro 2010. When I click the Edit Calendar button in PWA it triggers Project client to open up but it just opens up an empty project and I've not access to edit the Standard calendar using any of the published steps. It would be great to hear if someone has managed to do this so I can work out if it's a general glitch in this build or is it just a problem with out setup.

  • NYC Silverlight FireStarter - June 5th 2010 at the NYC Microsoft Office

    On Saturday June 5th, 2010, I spent my Saturday morning at the NYC Silverlight FireStarter. Presenting was Peter Laudati from Microsoft and Jason Beres, Matt Van Horn and Todd Snyder from Infragistics. I watched the Simulcast for the morning sessions as I was tied up with some work, but ended up finally making it to the Microsoft Office and had the opportunity to attend the last hour of the event in person.   For me, the quality of the Simulcast was as good as in-person attendance so far as sound/video quality and the interaction with speakers. In the background was a screen with tweets from remote attendees asking questions or commenting on the presentations. Presenters did periodically stop to answer the tweeted questions as well as questions from attendees. Only thing I missed was getting my hands on some of that swag that was (literally) flying in the air at the event floor.   Upon my arrival at the Microsoft Office Location in NYC, I spoke with Rachel Appel and Peter Laudati asking for permission to take a few photos to record the outstanding effort that took place in putting this event together. Both agreed and I started with putting my photography skills to work.   You can always gauge the quality of an event with the number of its attendees who opt to stay till the last minute as well as the level of interaction of the audience with the speaker. With most of the FireStarter attendees remaining till the very end of the talk, and with the many questions that were asked, one can simply judge the event as a success as per my aforementioned criteria.   Evaluation forms were passed around and Peter strongly encouraged the audience to openly speak their mind as they record their comments. I didn't get to submit my evaluation as I was busy recording the event in photos, so here it goes: I believe that lots of hard work was put into making this event a reality. Quality of speakers, topics and level of Geekiness at the event was outstanding.  Overall, aside from a minor issue with Lunch delivery time, this event was of high quality and I am very sure everyone's evaluation will be in line with my analysis of it being a great success.   • Visual Studio Service Pack 1 - Test first!

    It appears that our run of fairly benign VS SP’s is over… I've now installed the VS 2010 SP1 in a few simple test environments (x64) and all of them are having issues. Add-in failures, failed package loading, missing SQL Intellisense, XAML designer failure, etc. Make sure you test this Service Pack thoroughly before you release it to your production environment. Microsoft Connect is the official repository for issues with Service Pack 1.
