  • Iterating over each line of ls -l output

    I want to iterate over each line in the output of ls -l /some/dir/* Right now I'm trying: for x in ls -l $1; do echo $x done, however this iterates over each element in the line seperately, so i get -r--r----- 1 ivanevf eng 1074 Apr 22 13:07 File1 -r--r----- 1 ivanevf eng 1074 Apr 22 13:17 File2 I want to iterate over each line as a whole, though.     I have the following gifs on my linux system: $ find . -name *.gif ./gifs/02.gif17.gif ./gifs/fit_logo_en.gif ./gifs/halloween_eyes_63.gif ./gifs/importing-pcs.gif ./gifs/portal.gif ./gifs/Sunflower_as_gif_small.gif ./gifs/weird.gif ./gifs2/00p5dr69.gif ./gifs2/iss013e48788.gif ...and so on What I have written is a program that converts GIF files to BMP with the following interface: ./gif2bmp -i inputfile -o outputfile My question is, is it possible to write a one line command using xargs, awk, find etc. to run my program once for each one of these files? Or do I have to write a shell script with a loop?

  • Assigning a material in Blender with a script

    Question: How do you assign a material with a script to an object in blender? Info: I have this script to import a proprietary model type of mine that is basically a star map with object consisting of a single vertex. in order to make them look like stars and be visible they are all going to have a halo material assigned to them. I'm figuring out how to make this material and give it the values just fine, but I can't seem to get it to assign. I tried the most obvious thing which was: objectName.setMaterial(materialName) but that did nothing. and when i would take an object that had a material and call the getMaterial function on it, it would return nothing. there is something I'm missing here, can some one shed some light on it?   • Get Active Directory Attributes for Users on Legacy Exchange Servers

    I would like to create a CSV file of the users on our Exchange 2003 servers, and include some attributes from their AD account. In particular, I would like to pull certain AD values for the users with RecipientTypeDetails = LegacyMailbox. I have tried a few different methods for targeting and filtering (ldapfilter, filter, objectAttribute, etc.) these users, with little success. The Exchange 2003 PowerPack for PowerGUI was helpful, but permissions issues and using the Exchange_Mailbox class are not challenges I want to overcome. I was finally able to create a working script, but it is very slow. The script I've created below is currently working, although it is on track to take about 4+ hours to complete. I'm am looking for suggestions for improving the efficiency of my script or otherwise obtaining this data in a quicker manner.     Id like to convert it to uppercase for the simple purpose of formatting so it will adhere to a future case statement. As I thought case statements are case sensitive.   • maya "export all" window blocks my plugins script UI

    I'm writing a custom File Translator for Maya which can export only (I have only declared the writer function). Currently having a problem with the MEL script which defines the plugin's options as a GUI. Currently I have a blank Maya scene, go to "file-export all". This creates the "File Export All" dialog, I then select my plugin exporter which runs my MEL script to create the bespoke options window. This new window is created behind the "File Export All" dialog and is not selectable! Do I have to place my export plugin specific options within the export all dialog rather than placing them in a separate window? Thanks for any links, tips or pointers you can provide.

    I need to create a nice installer for a Mac application. I want it to be a disk image (DMG), with a predefined size, layout and background image. I need to do this programmatically in a script, to be integrated in an existing build system (more of a pack system really, since it only create installers. The builds are done separately). I already have the DMG creation done using "hdiutil", what I haven't found out yet is how to make an icon layout and specify a background bitmap.

  • Why does my Jabber bot only work if I'm debugging my Perl script?

    I am trying to make a jabber bot from scratch and my script is acting funny. I was originally developing the bot on a remote CentOS box, but I have switched to a local Win7 machine. Right now I'm using ActiveState Perl and I'm using Eclipse with the Perl plugin to run a debug the script. The funny behavior I'm experiencing occurs when I run or debug the script. If I run the script using the debugger it works fine, meaning I can send messages to the bot and it can send messages to me. However when I just execute the script normally the bot sends the successful connection message then it disconnects from my jabber server and the script ends. I'm a novice when it comes to Perl and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. My guess is it has something to do with the subroutines and sending the presence of the bot. (I know for sure that it has something to do with sending the bot's presence because if the presence code is removed, the script behaves as expected except the bot doesn't appear to be online.) If anyone can help me with this that would be great. I've tried setting the variables to the output and correct output and I believe it's been successful but I can't get the string comparison to work correctly.   • Is it possible for a XSS attack to obtain HttpOnly cookies?

    Reading this blog post about HttpOnly cookies made me start thinking, is it possible for an HttpOnly cookie to be obtained through any form of XSS? Jeff mentions that it "raises the bar considerably" but makes it sound like it doesn't completely protect against XSS. Aside from the fact that not all browser support this feature properly, how could a hacker obtain a user's cookies if they are HttpOnly? I can't think of any way to make an HttpOnly cookie send itself to another site or be read by script, so it seems like this is a safe security feature, but I'm always amazed at how easily some people can work around many security layers. In the environment I work in, we use IE exclusively so other browsers aren't a concern. I'm looking specifically for other ways that this could become an issue that don't rely on browser specific flaws.
