  I installed Red-hat 5.3 problem is that it is not showing graphical interface. only kernel / command prompt is available. I tried startx, then I got this msg No video BIOS modes for chosen depth also showing that ERROR: Failed to start X server. What should I do?

• RHEL 5.5 Yum Update Fails Dependency Error

  I have 30 different RHEL 5.5 machines that will not update some 33 packages via Yum. Does anyone know why these packages will not install and how to correct this? Yum clean all does not fix the issue, however skip broken will allow other updates to install but I am really after a way to clear this up for good. They are stock boxes with RHEL subscription and not using any yum repositories other than Red Hat's own official repositories. • What's hogging my CPU?

  Ubuntu's System Monitor applet shows 100% CPU usage continuously. If I click it, the resources tab shows it at 100% continuously, too. If I go to processes, though, to find out which process is the culprit, there is nothing above 10%. If I run top there is nothing above 10%. I try killing lots of things, but it continues at 100%. How can I find out what's hogging the CPU? This is an unusual situation on a computer I use daily, that normally only hits 100% CPU when I'm doing something that requires it (like loading 32 Firefox tabs) after which it goes back to a normal idle level. It's not a new install or anything. It shouldn't be maxed out. I'm not sure when it started or if I changed something that caused it to happen. Normally I would use top or System Monitor and find the process that had gone out of control, but I can't find anything with those tools this time. It persists after reboots and everything. And the processor is obviously hot, so it's not an erroneous reading. Update: I tried killing any process I saw active again, and killing vino-server finally fixed the problem, even though it never went above 5%. I had enabled Remote Desktop a few days ago (and have obviously now disabled it). How did it manage to use 100% CPU while top only showed it as 5% or so? How do I identify the culprit in the future? Looks like I'm not the only one: Still a problem in both jaunty & karmic. Interestingly, both System Monitor & htop do not show the sum of individual processes being anywhere near 100% cpu.

• Can I use this power supply + case combination without causing problems?

  I am putting together a computer with a Antec P180 case and a Thermaltake TR2 RX 650 W power supply. The problem is that the Antec P180 case has a separate compartment for the power supply. With an opening for the on/off switch + ac connector to one side, a wall with a small hole for cables to route through on top, a wall on the bottom, and on the other side a fan which pushes air from the hard drive compartment to the power supply compartment. I think the design of the case assumes the power supplies fan is on the side next to the on/off switch, but the fan on the power supply I have is on top, which makes me worry about overheating the power supply. There is about half an inch between the top of the power supply and the wall and the other fan should keep air flowing to push out the air that the power supply pushes upwards. Do you think this setup should work, or should I go get another power supply? Thanks!! PS: This computer will be running an Ubuntu server, so it will always be on, but the rest of the components shouldn't be generating as much heat as they would on say a gaming machine.

  Lately after a use of 6 months of my AMD FX8350 CPU I'm experiencing high temperatures and loud noise coming from the CPU fan(I set that in order to keep it cooler). I decided to replace the stock fan with a water cooling system in order to keep my CPU quite and cool and add one or two more case fans too. Here is my case's airflow diagram: http://www.coolermaster.com/microsite/silencio_650/Airflow.html My configuration now is: 2x120mm intake front(stock with case) 1x120mm exhaust rear(stock with case) 1 CPU stock I'm planning to buy Corsair Hydro Series H100i(www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h100i-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler) and place the radiator in the front of my case(intake) and add an 120mm bottom intake and/or an 140mm top exhaust fan. My CPU lies near the top of the MO. Is it a good practice to have a water-cooling system that takes air in? As you can see here the front of the case is made of aluminum. Can the fresh air go in? Does it even fit? If not, is it wiser to get Corsair Hydro Series H80i (www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h80i-high-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler) and place the radiator on top of my case(exhaust) and keep the front 2x120mm stock and add one more as intake on bottom. When temp is going over 55C when running multiple programs and servers on localhost(tomcat, wamp) rpm is around 5500 and loud!   Has anyone ever compared different LDAP servers? I am currently planning to upgrade ADAM to another server, and I'd like to know how do they perform. Currently the options that I am researching are: Active Directory (LDS) OpenLDAP Red Hat Directory Server OpenDS OpenDJ edit: I am looking for any kind of measurement that has been done.   I have created a very simple script (see below) but cannot get it to run properly. I always get messages saying line 5: syntax error near unexpected token 'fi' line 5: 'fi' when I try to execute this script. #!/bin/sh rm /opt/file_name if $? -ne 0 then echo 'error' fi exit I am running this on Red Hat Linux if that makes any difference. User shylent wrote thet he uses really basic debian install so small that processes can count on one hand fingers :D. So Im searching and asking for starting point to create basic linux distro but not from scratch like LFS but make linux distro based on debian for example. I used debootstrap but still it is 150M large.

This IP address is configured in my eth0. So basically I want to set it up the same as my local loopback (127.0.0.1) UDP traffic.
