• Dynamic DataGrid columns in WPF DataGrid based on the underlying set of data (and their type)

  Hello everyone, I've got kind of a conceptual question. I am in the process of wrapping some statistics classes I wrote into WPF. For that I have two DataGrid(-Views, currently in WinForms). In one DataGrid each row represents a column in the other. There I can set-up different variables (as in mathematical/statistical variables) with fields like "Header", "DataType", "ValidationBehaviour", "DisplayType". There I can also set-up how it should be displayed. Some Columns can automatically be set to ComboBoxColumns, some TextBoxColumns, and so on and so forth. So, now once I've set-up these Columns I can go to the other grid and enter my data. I may, for instance, have generated (in grid 1) one Column called "Annual Gross Salary" with input of numerical values. Another Column called "Education" with "0=NoEducation", "1=College Level", "3=Universitary" etc. These labels are displayed as text in the combobox and my statistics engine behind then selects the respective value (0-3) for calculations (i.e. ordinal, nominal variables). Sooo. In WinForms I could basically generate all the columns by hand in code and then add my data in the respective cells/rows. Now in WPF I thought that must be easy to realise. However, yesterday I got started with ICustomPropertyDescriptor which (maybe I was too thick) didn't give me the results I was looking for. Basically, I just need to be able to dynamically generate columns (and rows) with different Layout, Controls (ComboBox, simple Input, DateTimes) based on the data that I have. But I don't really know how to go about it? So here in summary: DataGrid 1 Purpose is to display columns that have been specified in DataGrid 2 In rows, the user can add any kind of data in the rows below the columns that is allowed as to the columns specifications DataGrid 2 Each row in this grid represents a column in DataGrid 1 Contains fields like Name/Header, DataType, Validation Behaviour, Default Value, Data Formatting, etc. Also contains a function to be able to set-up how it should be displayed. The user can select from, for instance, ComboBoxColumn (and also add the available options), DateTime, normal TextBox, CheckBox etc. After finishing adding a row it will automatically appear as a new column in DataGrid 1 I'd appreciate any kind of pointer into the right direction.   Hi, i am using the Ado.Net Entity Framework with Code Only (Tutorial at: ADO.NET team blog) and i want to be as much database independent as possible. In my first approach i just want to go for Sql Express and Sql Compact databases. With Sql Express everthing works fine but with Sql Compact i get the exception mentioned in my question. Does anybody knows if it is possible to connect to Sql Compact with the Code Only approach? (with a generated .edmx file for a Sql Compact database everthing works fine, but i want to use code only!)   I am trying to use the LINQtoSQL project in silverlight (its a great project), because its open sourced i figured i could just recompile as a silverlight class library but unfortunately it appears to use a feature not available in silverlight. The TypeDescriptor.GetConverter method. It uses this to find type converters to properly parse the csv columns to their corresponding CLR types. I have no problem making changes to the linqtocsv sources to make it work in Silverlight, but i just don't know what an equivalent operation would be in silverlight. Various google searches have brought me to this page, but all that says is that the XAML parser has a way of doing this (but it doesn't say how to access this functionality). In a nutshell, the question is: how do i replicate the functionality of TypeDescriptor.GetConverter?

• Hide/ change width/ change position of UIButton based on device type

  I'm using the new in-app SMS features in my iPhone app, but obviously iPod Touches aren't able to send and receive SMS without support of a third party app. I know all well how to detect the device and how to hide a UIButton, but what I do not know is how to change the width of the others. Above are the three icons. The one on the far rights needs to be hidden on an iPod Touch, and the other two need to adjust size/ position to fill the remaining space. Any tips on programatically changing the position and width of a UIButton is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  I'm experiencing the same problem as in this question, but none of the answers fixed my problem. (edit: Setting the web.config batch attribute works, but that's a coverup, not a solution) The problem I'm having is with a User Control that I moved from the root directory to a subdirectory within the same Web Application project. It used to work fine before I moved it. When I moved it it started giving me the error message. It's saying that the class name exists in two dll files in Temporary ASP.NET Files. Sure enough, when I open Reflector, it's in two dlls. If I rename the class and ascx file, everything works fine. No usages of the original name exist within any of the files in my entire application. When I rename the file, I opened all of the dll files in Temporary ASP.NET Files with Reflector, and no references to the original class name exists. So where's this phantom reference coming from how can I fix this?

• UIButton of type UIButtonTypeCustom will not display Title (iPhone)

  Hi I must have overlooked something completely obvious?? but my button displays its image and size correctly, but I simply can't get the Title to show up. I did a really simple test, the Title does not even show up when I do this: CGRect frameBtn = CGRectMake(160.0f, 150.0f, 144.0f, 42.0f); UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; [button setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"left_halfscreen_button.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [button setTitle:@"Hello" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [button setFrame:frameBtn]; NSLog(@"Title:%@", [button currentTitle]); //prints "Title:Hello [self addSubview:button]; I have a factory class that generates custom buttons for me and I thought I messed some detail up there, so I moved the above code directly into my UIView, the title is still blank. But I got the error on using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControl; I have tried to add System.Web as Reference but that still doesn't resolve the stuff. I can't see System.Web.UI and System.Web.UI.WebControl in the reference lists is this normal ? Thanks.

I.e to check if really the Queue is initialised or not. It is. The right variables are stored and et. all [I inserted a value in that Q, that part of the code is not shown] But the second writeline is not giving the right expected answer: It serializes the entire Queue to 00-00-00.   I have a WCF service that I am attempting to connect to via a console application for testing (although will move to WPF for the final interface). I have generated the proxy, added the service reference to my project in visual studio and I can see all the methods I have created in my WCF interface: SupportStaffServiceClient client = new SupportStaffServiceClient("WSHttpBinding_ISupportStaffService"); client.myMethod(message); However when I call a method, which in the WCF interface is specified as returning a value, the method returns void in the console application. client.getMethod(message); The WCF service method is definitely returning a message, I'm just unsure as to why the client cannot "see" the return.

  Is there a way to store a conversion strategy (for converting some bytes) into a database and then execute it on the run time. If one were to store a complete java file, you would need to compile it, store the class and some how inject into the already running system. I am not sure how this would be possible. But using some kind of dynamic language on JVM would be nice. I see an example of execution of groovy from within spring context here http://www.devx.com/tips/Tip/42789 but this is still static in nature as application context contains the reference to the implementation and cannot be changed by database. Perhaps with JavaConfig of context it is possible. I am exploring options now, specifically with Spring 3.0. Your suggestions in any direction would be welcome.

• Magento My Account Layout XML Problem

  Hi there, I'm having issues getting the customer.xml layout file to work properly for the customer's "my account" pages. The navigation links and the previously ordered items that are usually on the left hand side of the page won't show up on the page, but if I change the reference name to "content" in the xml file, it shows up (except it's obviously then on the right hand side). I've checked the template it's referencing (2columns-left.phtml), and the getChildHtml('left') is there in the correct position. • WPF TypeConverter ConvertTo not firing

  Hi, I have a dependency property in a class which I need to be converted to a string. I have added the TypeConverty attribute on the property. The type I am converting is the .net Style class. [TypeConverter(typeof(BulletStyleTypeConverter))] public Style BulletStyle { get { return (Style)GetValue(BulletStyleProperty); } set { this.SetValue(BulletStyleProperty, value); } } When I put the string "Rectangle" in for BulletStyle in xaml it hits the ConvertFrom method in my converter. However, when I use XamlWriter.Save() to serialise this, the property does not appear as an attribute in the string which is produced. I have implemented ConvertTo and put a breakpoint on, which is never hit. I have implemented CanConvertTo and put a breakpoint on, which IS hit and returns true. So i'm stumped as to why ConvertTo never fires.

  I have a form where there are 6 items, each of which can be ranked from 1-6 in order of importance. Here's a screenshot. Basically, I need to set it up so that if one item gets a ranking of 3 (for example), then "3" becomes disabled for all the other items. Therefore, the user should only be able to select a number that hasn't already been selected for each item (so we can ensure that the items really will be ranked 1-6 and no numbers will be repeated for different items). • Control JSON Serialization format of a custom type in .NET

  I have a PhoneNumber class that stores a normalized string, and I've defined implicit operators for string <- Phone to simplify treatment of the PhoneNumber as a string. I've also overridden the ToString() method to always return the cleaned version of the number (no hyphens or parentheses or spaces). In any MVC.NET code where I explicitly display the number, I can explicitly call phone.Format(). The problem here is serializing an entity that has a PhoneNumber to JSON; JavaScriptSerializer serializes it as [object Object]. I want to serialize it as a string in (555)555-5555 format. I've looked at writing a custom JavaScriptConverter, but JavaScriptConverter.Serialize() method returns a dictionary of name-value pairs. I don't want PhoneNumber to be treated as an object with fields, I want to simply serialize it as a string.
