• Audio and video streaming using Network Simulator in Linux

  I am working on a project which is to show the simulation of streaming of audio and video data in wireless networks. I want to show the simulation that involves a base station, with few wireless stations. The base station should start sending data once it computes a certain value . On receiving the data, each wireless must begin communicating with the base station. I have gone through basic NS-2 tutorials from over here but I am not getting how to go about integrating it with my project. Can anyone tell me how to do it using NS2 or any other network simulator?

  I've BT Home Hub in the upper flat (2-3 walls behind) and I'm using WPS Wireless-N Wifi Range Router Repeater Extender in my flat where I'm using my laptop. These are antenna-less devices. Are there any life-hack tricks to increase signal/range of my repeater without buying the new more powerful repeater? I've tried already to move my repeater closer to the ceiling or putting the aluminium foil underneath, but it didn't help. Are there any methods, specific plates or materials which can boost the signal?   I'm having trouble with my wifi connection. Is there any software out there that can help me determine if the problem is in the drivers or in the hardware? Regretfully, I'm working on Vista Edit: The problem I'm having is that the Vista reports that the wireless radio is connected, shows an IP and all, the router also shows that the computer is connected, but there's no connectivity. I can't logon to the router, and I can't even ping it. When I ping it I get the response: General Failure I have tried connecting with and without various wireless security protocols. I have tried disabling the wireless adapter and re-enabling it from the Device Manager I have tried updating the driver None of this has helped. When I connect via Ethernet (with a cable, that is), everything works fine. Edit: I'm not using any firewall on the computer, that I'm aware of. The IP address for the WIFI adapter is similar to the one for the LAN adapter. They differ by one.

• Why is my iPhone WIFI so slow at home?

  When my iPhone is connected to my home wireless network, the internet is unusably slow. I installed the speedtest.net application; here are some results from tonight: Down: 0.0kB/s, Up: 0.0kB/s, ping: 2230ms Down: 2.5kB/s, Up: 40.5kB/s, ping: 2182ms Down: 0.0kB/s, Up: 20.0kB/s, ping: 197ms For comparison, here is the result from my iMac to the same server, which is on the same wireless network (and has no wired connection): Down: 139kB/s, Up: 53.8kB/s, ping: 182ms Neither my iMac nor the Dell laptop also on the network have experienced the wifi problems I get with my iPhone. On the other hand, I tried browsing a website on the wireless network at work with no problems. EDIT: SpeedTest at work gives me 156kB/s down. EDIT2: Girlfriend (owner of the Dell) reports actually the internet is sometimes very slow. Perhaps there is more going on. No problems with my iMac. My router is a ASUS WL-500g Premium V2 running OpenWrt Kamikaze with X-Wrt Extensions 8.09.

• Can I use the Airport Express as a an uplink between two networks?

  I have two separate networks using different IP ranges, 192.168.0.* for the wired only, isolated network and 192.160.1.* for the wireless only network which is connected to the internet. The wired network has a network printer setup and working and I want to be able to share it out to members of the wireless network (see diagram below). In short I need some kind of uplink between the two networks. Currently running a cable is out since there is no suitable route. I have a spare Airport Express and I am wondering if I could attach it to the wired network and have it join the wireless and act as the uplink between the two. Anyone know if the device is capable of this?

  Hello, I successfully installed Ubuntu onto my usb hard drive. However, I'm not sure what the issue is with my internet. I'm not familiar enough with ubuntu to know whether this is a problem with recognizing my wireless card or with my internet, etc. So I suppose my question is, how do I tell whether it's recognizing my wireless card? (Network manager isn't showing any wireless signals, though I wasn't sure if it was supposed to. ) And, if it's not working, how do I go about troubleshooting that issue? Thanks!

  I have a new Windows 8 Dell XPS desktop computer at work. It has a Dell Wireless 1703 802.11 b/g/n (2.4ghz) wireless adapter. sporadically throughout the day I lose internet connectivity. When I click on the wireless system tray icon, my companies router does not appear in the list. No other computer on the network is losing connection, only this one. I don't even know what to check. Could it be an ip conflict that causes me to get booted off? (I use DHCP), but why wouldn't my computer be able to see the network. The next time it happens I will see what happens when I try to access the router directly.

  i have the following scenario. Two laptops are connected via a router through the Ethernet ports. These two computers need to be able to communicate together. One computer also needs to access the internet through a different adapter (i.e. we will taking these two laptops two various sites where by the most common type of internet access will be wireless).In isolation all of the various adapters work fine (i.e. the internal network works fine, and the wireless connects to the internet). However,we try to turn on all of the adapters at the same time,the following occurs: If we bridge the two network connections together on the "Server" -The internet connection doesn't work through the wireless If we don't bridge the connections The internet connections don't work It seems like http traffic is trying to be sent through the Ethernet adapter (which of course is not connected to an internet connection). How can we solve this?

  I have an windows 7 laptop and I have installed openvpn 2.2x as client. The laptop has 2 ethernet cards, one of them is wireless. The wireless lan is 192.168.1.0/24 The Fix lan is 192.168.2.0/24 If I connect to the openvpn server useing the Fix lan the I can connect properly and for testing I ping to my openvpn server 10.0.0.1 that answers correctly. But if I connect to the openvpn server useing the wireless lan, I can establish the connection but pinging to the server isn´t possible. The packets goes allways lost. Why can this happen? In an other laptop where windows xp is installed and with the same lan configuratio everything works propperly. In both cases the firewall is configured to access the vnc server and the server directories useing samba. With the XP I have no problems. I will thank you for all help Ignacio

One of the roommates abuses the connection by downloading beyond his quota limit. I have a Netgear WNR1000v2 Wireless router + ADSL Modem to connect to the internet. We all access internet via Wireless router which connects to ADSL Modem. I need a free proxy solution which can help me set 40GB / 3 (13 GB) limit for each person (every person has 2 devices - a PC and a phone with Wifi) Uniform Bandwidth control - when 2 people browse the internet they should get 1 Mbps each, and when 3 people access, they should get 2Mbps divided by 3. After each person crosses their monthly download limit, they should be able to access the internet with 256Kbps speed only or lesser. Can I have a custom firmware on my wireless router do this (or) Do I need a proxy server ? Please point me to any relevant tutorials (for example with Squid).

  Hi. My Laptop is having trouble connecting to my wireless router. Other laptops are using the wireless, but it's not reached capacity. The laptop recognises (with a strong signal) that there is wireless internet, and I can connect via the router with a cable because this happens automatically. My problem is this... When I click "connect" (for example in the network and sharing centre), the dialogue box closes and nothing else happens - as though "connect" is being read as "exit". I am running Vista on a Toshiba Satellite Pro P300. Any help would be very much appreciated, Thanks

  I've started accepting remote desktop connections on one of my machines. If i connect the machine to my router using an Ethernet cable i am able to ping it and connect to it remotely (using RDP). However, if i connect the machine using wireless network i am unable to ping it (or access it using RDP). Although i can live with connecting that machine using an Ethernet cable i just wanted to know the reason why it doesn't work using wireless. Is the router not able to forward packets to that host if its connected using wireless? If yes, any solutions?

• How to connect devices behind Comcast router/modem with devices behind wireless router

  I know this is going to seem like a simple solution but I have been unable to find a clear answer through Google. Simple office setup: I have a Comcast modem/router that has 4 hard wired ports. In one of those ports I have a Cisco wireless router which also has 4 of its own ports. What is the method for getting devices behind the modem/router to ping/communicate with devices behind the wireless router? They are all on the same subnet but the IP ranges differ. The router produces 192.168.1.1 by default while the Comcast modem/router produces 10.1.10.1 by default. I think what I'm attempting to do might be considered "extending" the modem/router's network but I'm not sure. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  Does anyone know if there are any USB network adapters out there that have both wired and wireless networking capability? Far-fetched, I know, but thought I'd ask. Background: Some of our users have locked down laptops that we also include unlocked virtual machines running on VMware Player. Sometimes the users have a need for network connectivity with their VMs where NAT and bridged networking from the host won't work. To supplement this, we want to supply them with adapters that they can use VMware USB pass through capabilities to provide appropriate connectivity. They will need both wired and wireless capability. Rather than carrying around 2 adapters, was hoping we could get a combination unit so that we can reduce it to 1. Thanks

  I am trying to run Eclipse java-galileo-SR2-win32. The files are just extracted from a zip file and put into a directory. The interet explorer settings for adding network drives to the intranet zone do not work on local drives. Also there is no option to 'unblock' the file in the file properties.   A linux machine is connected to internet over two interfaces ppp0 and ppp1 using two modems. Also this machine acts as wireless access point through an interface say, eth0 with ip address 192.168.1.1 and acts as gateway for the connected devices through this network with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Now is it possible to achieve the following: When any of the connected devices through wireless AP needs internet connection linux machine has to use ppp1 interface for internet. If any of the applications on the linux machine needs internet connection linux machine should use ppp0 interface for the internet. Can this be achieved by adding rules to chains in filter/nat tables? If the kernel routing table has a default rule to route the default traffic through interface ppp0, wil kernel completely ignore ppp1 for internet? PS: new to networking and routing concepts, If the question is not clear leave a comment, will try to give more information.

• afp/smb transfers caps at 2 megabytes/sec, wireless N

  I wanted to transfer files between two mac computers. The network is wireless-N and both computers have wireless-N modules in them. The problem is that when I transfer files between them, via file sharing (afp) the network speed caps at 2 megabytes/sec. Just downloading files from the internet I can get faster speeds, so this isn't a constriction of my wifi bandwidth, it appears to be a constriction of the protocol being used. My wifi-n is set to 130mbits, so I should see real world transfer speeds around 12-16 megabytes/sec I did this command on both computers sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 which is supposed to lower tcp overhead, but this did not affect it. How can I get the speed I am expecting?

• What are some good, free tools to run automated security audits for PHP code?

  I've been looking for some time now and have come up short. The most promising I found was Spike PHP, which seems to no longer work. I'm looking to scan my code for potential risks of SQL Injection, XSS, etc. I've gone through most of my code manually, but with a few hundred thousand lines of code, I'm sure I missed things. If possible, are there any tools that can be downloaded and analyze code on my local machine rather than installing to the live server (this isn't a requirement if not)?

• How do IE, FF, and Chrome compare in security? [closed]

  I'm trying to determine which of the three main browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer) are the most secure and safe. Right now, in our system, Firefox 10 and IE 8 are cleared as 'good-to-use', but Chrome isn't. Is Chrome really less secure than Firefox and IE, or are the IT folks are slow at updating (Firefox 12 and IE 9 and 10 preview are out right now)? Completely rewrote question. • Looking for a SECURE Audio Player for Windows

  I know there are dozens of audio players for windows, but which one has: the best security record (least reported vulnerabilities) the least number of security exploits the best security implementation, along with the reasoning behind the implementaiton (i.e. how it is handled). As Windows users start to see more and more reports of media-based attacks against Windows Media Player (& co.) it would be useful to have a player that has some proactive security approaches to handling exploits.

• SOHO NETGEAR wireless router disconnects when downloading torrents

  I have a NETGEAR WGT624 wireless router at home which dies when there is a heavy torrent load. I open up my torrent client and it downloads for about 5 to 10 minutes and it continues to increase the number of seeds (goes up to 70-80 seeds), but after that the router simply fails and I have to restart it in order to get an internet connection again. When I connect directly via an ethernet cable the router and open up the torrent client, then it seems to be doing fine, but when I go wireless then the router stops working properly (although all the lights are still blinking as normal). Is there any way that I can fix this? New router firmware? Change some router options? Feed it a cookie? Anything?
