How do I center align horizontal <UL> menu?

I need to centre align a horizontal menu. I've tried various solutions, including the mix of inline-block / block / center-align etc., but not being successful. How do I simplify my code?

I just finished creating my first major application in C#/Silverlight. In the end the total line count came out to over 12,000 lines of code. Considering this was a rewrite of a php/javascript application I created 2 years that was over 28,000 lines I am actually quite proud of my accomplishment. After reading many questions and answers here on stackoverflow and other sites online, I followed many posters advice: I created classes, procedures, and such for things that I would have a year ago copied and pasted; I created logic charts to figure out complex functions; making sure there are no crazy hidden characters (used tabs instead of spaces); and a few others things; place comments where necessary (I have lots of comments). My application consists of 4 tiles laid out horizontally that have user controls loaded into each slice. You can have between one and four slices loaded at anytime. If you have once slice loaded, the slice takes up the entire artboard...if you have 2 loaded, each take up half, 3 a third, 4 a quarter. Each one of these slices represent (for the sake of this example) a light control. Each slice has 3 slider controls in it. Now when I coded the functionality of the sliders, I used a switch/case statement inside of a public function that would run the command on the specified slice/slider. The made for some duplicate code but I saw no way around it as each slice was named differently. So I would do slice1.my.commands(); slice2.my.commands(); etc. My question to you is how do I clean up my code even futher? (Sadly I cannot post any of my code). Is there any way to take this repetion out of my code?

Sorry if this is another repost. I have been attempting to find a solution but nothing works that I have tried. I am using a blog which I have full html control over. I can usually find my way around basic html but when it comes to Java or CSS I am a complete newb. Sorry, I know absolutely nothing. Now that that is out of the way. I have two sidebar div's that I am trying to hide on one specific url to utilize more space for a content iframe. Move and rename file in android

I am trying to copy a file to another folder in the android, but so far, i got no success. I manage to do so with a selected image and when taking a photo, but not with files. I've read and tried several solutions passed by the community (searched over the forum and the internet), but none of it was able to solve my problem when copying. First things first. How best to present a security vulnerability to a web development team in your own company?

Imagine the following scenario: You work at Big Co. and your coworkers down the hall are on the web development team for Big Co's public blog system, which a lot of Big Co employees and some public people use. The blog system allows any HTML and JavaScript, and you've been told that it was a choice (not by accident) but you aren't sure if they realize the implications of this. So you want to convince them that this is a bad idea. You write some demonstration code and plant a XSS script in your own blog, and then write some blog posts. Soon after, the head blog admin (down the hall) visits your blog post and the XSS sends his cookies to you. You copy them into your browser and you are now logged in as him. Okay, now you're logged in as him... And you start realizing that it maybe wasn't such a good idea to go ahead and 'hack' the blog system. But you are a good guy! You don't touch his account after logging into it, and you definitely don't plan on publicizing this weakness; you just maybe want to show them that the public is able to do this, so that they can fix it before someone malicious realizes the same thing! What is the best course of action from here?

jQuery .ajax method executing but not firing error (or success)

I'm having a very strange situation. I have a .NET Web Service (.asmx) that I'm trying to call via jQuery ajax to populate some <select></select>'s. The service is running System.Web.Services like it's supposed to and should be returning a JSON list. At least that's the way I understand that it will in .NET 3.5/4.0. The main problem is that the .ajax() function (below) seems to execute but the internal callbacks aren't executing. Ajax Update Panel Not Displaying Updated Image in IE, Chrome and FireFox

I have a parent page with an Ajax Update Panel that contains an image and a button. There is a hyperlink that opens up a child page. When the child page is submitted, there is an onclientclick event that triggers a javascript function that clicks the button in the update panel on the parent page, the button's click event being the trigger for the panel as well as the event that updates the image URL. When I use this on my android tablet, it works perfectly. However, it doesn't work at all on any browser I've used on a PC (Windows XP). The Image URL updates, but the updated image doesn't display without refreshing the entire page. In IE, I can right click on the image and click Show Image and it updates. In Chrome and Firefox, I have to refresh the entire page. Why would an Ajax control only work properly on the Android OS and what could I be doing wrong that would cause the image not to redisplay on my PC without refreshing the page even though the image URL is clearly being updated properly. I suspect a caching issue, but don't know how to correct.

I guess I don't need it to be a YouTube video per se, I could just host the video on my own site (it's so low volume that I don't have to worry about serving up a video every once in a while).

Socket Performance C++ Or C#

I have to write an application that is essentially a proxy server to handle all HTTP and HTTPS requests from our server (web browsing, etc). I know very little C++ and am very comfortable writing the application features in C#. I have experimented with the proxy from Mentalis (socket proxy) which seems to work fine for small webpages but if I go to large sites like tigerdirect.ca and browse through a couple of layers it is very slow and sometimes requests don't complete and I see broken images and javascript errors. This happens with all of our vendor sites and other content heavy sites. Mentalis uses HTTP 1.0 which I know is not as efficient but should a proxy be that slow? What is an acceptable amount of performance loss from using a proxy? Would HTTP 1.1 make a noticeable difference? Would a C++ proxy be much faster than one in C#? Is the Mentalis code just not efficient? Would I be able to use a premade C++ proxy and import the DLL to C# and still get good performance or would this project call for all C++? Sorry if these are obvious questions but I have not done network programming before.

Suitable web framework for the following scenario

I have the following scenario: I have a view in an Oracle server and all Iwant is to show that view in a web browser, along with an input field or two for basic filtering. No users, no authentication, just this view maybe with a column or two linking to a second page for master detail viewing. The children are just string descriptions of the columns of the master that contain IDs. No inserts or updates. The question is which is the JAVA based web framework of choice that can accomplish the above in the minimum amount of code lines code time(subjective but also kind of objective if someone has expirience with more than one or two frameworks) configuration effort deployment effort and requirements. dependencies and mem footprint Also: 6. Oracle APEX is not an option. 3,4 and 5 are maybe the same in the sense that they are everything except the functionality coding. I want something that I can compile, deploy by just FTPing to the database host, run and forget. (e.g. For the deployment aspect, Hudson way comes in mind (java -jar hudson.war and that's all)). Also: 3,4 have priority over 1 and 2. (Explanation with a rant: I dont mind coding a lot as long as it is application code and not "why the fuck do we still use javascript over http for everything" code) Thanks.

Help - use PHP-broswer, or proxy or get_page_contents or include page, or something else ??

Hi, I am trying to develop a web application for which I need to capture a specific user-driven event (such as mouse dblclick) occurring on a different-website page loaded through my website. What I want to do is : User visits my website - hosted by me. There, user types in any website URL (e.g.: http://www.example.com) That URL page gets loaded as is. When user double-clicks mouse over any link or image from that page, a popup/side-panel is displayed with content related to that particular image or link. I can do this with a combination of PHP get_page_contents or include-page, and javascript dblclick. However, when user clicks on any link or submits a form, the control goes to that other website, where I cannot show the side-panel. I might be able to handle the links by proxifying them when user clicks on any of them. How do I handle forms submission and other stuff ? I can use a full-featured proxy, but that will be too heavy just for the purpose of capturing the event. My question is that is there a way to write some kind of light PHP script that sits on my website - that loads other websites contents as is, but lets me capture the mouse-dblclick event to show related-content in the side panel . I have already searched the internet, but could not find anything. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.

Shouldn't we ignore IE6 and IE7 users?

Lately I created two webpages with a simple CMS for a a small club and a private person (http://foto.roser.li and http://www.ovlu.li/cms). I dont really understand much of HTML/PHP/CSS and all this web stuff, but it was enough to adapt the stylesheets and add some javascript functions and so on to make the pages to look more or less nice in firefox and IE8. Nevertheles, if you open the pages with IE7 or IE6, particulary the second home page really looks terrible. So what should I do know? I don't have the know-how to adapt the stylesheets so that it looks good at such browsers. However if I check the statistics of the pages, i noticed that almost half of the visitors uses this kind of browsers. I could put much effort in adapting the stylesheets to look good at all browser but while thinking about this I'm asking myself if this is really the best way. If all developers put effort in providing solutions for really old browsers (like e.g. the IE6), then people who use these brwoser dont have any incentives to update their browsers. Naturally, I as a provider of information should present the content in a readable form to my users, but were should i draw the line? I also saw that some users are visiting the pages with even IE5 or IE4... but I really can't think of a way how to adapt the content in a suitable form for these very old brwosers. I would appreciaed any hints how to handle this balancing between putting much effort into developing a version for very old brwosers and the necessity of providing content to all users which want to visits my homepages. Im also interested in your thoughts about they idea that putting effort in adapting the content for old browsers prevents the users from updating their browsres because they don't see any need.

Jquery - Setting form select-field "selected" value only works after refresh

Hi, I want to use a form select-field for users to select their country of residence, which shows the IP based country as default value (plus the IP address next to it); Location info (ipinfodb.com) is working. I'm passing "country" and "ip" to the function, which should modify select-field and ip adress Problem: IP adress works, but the select-field only updates after I hit refresh. First of all I will explain how I stumbled into this behavior. Within my web application I am using some custom validation for my form fields. Within the same form I have two buttons. One to actually submit the form and the other to cancel/reset the form. Mostly I use Safari as my default browser. Now Safari 5 is out and suddenly my cancel/reset button didn't work anymore. Every time I did hit the reset button the first field in my form did get the focus. However this is the same behavior as my custom form validation. When trying it with another browser everything just worked fine. I had to be a Safari 5 problem. I changed a bit in my Javascript code and I found out that the following line was causing the problem: document.getElementById("somefield").required = true; To be sure that would be really the problem I created a test scenario: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> </head> <body> <form id="someform"> <label>Name:</label> <input type="text" id="name" required="true" /><br/> <label>Car:</label> <input type="text" id="car" required="true" /><br/> <br/> <input type="submit" id="btnsubmit" value="Submit!" /> </form> </body> </html> What I expected would happen did happen. jQuery not working as expected on HTTPS Internet explorer

When I try to run my code on any other webbrowsers apart from the Internet explorer it works fine. But when I try to run the code on Internet explorer I do get an alert box saying HERE along with an Ok button. but the problem is when I click on that OK button I do not get anything. jQuery: Finding file size and adding it to the link

Let me start by saying that I'm not a jQuery guru by any means and I genuinely know this is over my head, that's why I've come to SO. Is there a way with jQuery to find the file size of a link on a page and then inject/add the text of the file size next to the link? Here's my problem On one of my pages, I have a link to my resume which is a PDF file and to improve usability it's proper to have the file type and file size next to the link so the users have the option to decide if they want to click on that link or not. So the link would read something like "Download my resume (PDF / 80KB)" The problem is that I'm constantly updating my resume and uploading a new PDF file which, of course, has a different file size so I'm always going back to the HTML and changing the text to reflect the new file size. Is there a way to automate this with jQuery... or plain JavaScript for that matter? I found this script and made a demo here in Codepen but it doesn't seem to work. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Guidance on E-commerce in a Python Framework

I am looking for guidance in making decisions on using Python for E-commerce. My reasoning to use Python in the first place is i do a lot of 3D so it's a real help to use Python for web server side as well as 3D so I do not need to learn a new language. When I say E-commerce i mean the logic behind displaying products and a check out system that is Robust....and yes I really want to build this myself so I can change it. I do not want to use an out the box solution that costs a lot of money every month. I want control of server side, data bases, e-commerce etc. My questions are: What Frameworks are out there? I looked at previous questions on stackoverflow but only found old posts about Sachmo and Get paid. What is the learning path, I do not want to make a mistake that costs six months of studying? Python then Django? How long if I spent 10 hours a day studying this would it take to get up and running? I write javaScript badly, so I am not a complete noob, I understand the basics of programming languages. many thanks in advance

I have page with products. When adding a product to the shopping cart a modal window is fired up for confirmation - this can take up to 2 seconds. I want to show another modal window just before the confirmation modal to show "loading..." my problem is that I don't know how to close the "loading..." modal.
