  • APS.NET MVC Ajax: Passing a IList from the View to the Controller

    I need to pass the grid rows from the view to the controller using POST. The idea is to pass an IList of objects (people) that have the following structure: String Name String Address String ID I want to read the data from the JQGrid and pass it to the controller to fill the IList. I'm trying to build the data object to pass through the Ajax data parameter.     We need to render an ActionResult to a string to add pages to our internal search engine index. We settled on this solution to render to string. I've run into a problem with the ExecuteResult call used to process the View. Code Snippet: var oldController = controllerContext.RouteData.Values["controller"]; controllerContext.RouteData.Values["controller"] = typeof(TController).Name.Replace("Controller", ""); viewResult.ExecuteResult(controllerContext); // this line breaks I receive the following error: "Object reference not set to instance of object" error. I've confirmed viewResult is not null, so the exception has to be thrown internally in ExecuteResult. What could we be missing?

    Here is one of the examples that I've seen on how to do validation on Controller: [HttpPost] public ViewResult Create(MyModel response) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { return View("Thanks"); } else { return View(); } } If there are validation errors, than return View() method is called without any parameters. Obviesly you have @Html.ValidationSummary() in your View and Model has all required properties attributes. The data that was entered into the form was preserved and displayed again when the view was rendered with the validation summary. My question is how data preserved?     Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, but I want to keep a user object alive during all requests of the current user. From reading several resources I learned that you should create your own IPrinciple which holds this. But I don't want to trigger the database every authentication request. Any recommendations on how to handle this?     I have a master page with that code: public string CallbackMethod; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { CallbackMethod = Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference(this, "message", "Dodanie", "context", true); } /other code here/ then, in the View (which is based on that master page) I need to invoke the CallbackMethod string, but the problem is, the framework firstly renders the View, and then invokes the Page_Load method. As the obvious result, the error appears: the name 'CallbackMethod' does not exist in the current context. How do I fix this?

    Hi, I'm trying to rewrite the url: https://mydomain/phone-append to https://mydomain/Service/PhoneAppend using the following rule: <rewrite> <rules> <rule name="Phone Append"> <match url="phone-append" /> <action type="Rewrite" url="/Services/Index" appendQueryString="true" /> </rule> </rules> </rewrite> The rule works fine if the rewrite url is /Services but when I change it to /Services/PhoneAppend I get a page not found error.     I am implementing a search module with result page support paging. The example provided by NerdDinner passes pagenumber as a parameter for the Index action, and the action uses the pagenumber to perform a query each time the user hit a different page number. My problem is that my search take many more criteria such as price, material, model number etc. than just simple pagenumber. Therefore, I would like to preserve the criteria after users' first submission, so that I only have to pass the pagenumber back and forth. Using ViewData is not possible because ViewData get cleared once it is sent to the View. Is there any good way to preserve the criteria data as I wish?

The problem is it is a boolean value (there or not there) It should look something like : <input name="a" value="" autofocus> I try : <%= Html.TextBox( "a", null, new { autofocus } ) %> But, it's give me an error because I'm not setting a value to autofocus... I know I can do it manually, but can I do it with Html.TextBox ?

    Hi, ASP.NET MVC web app that exposes "friendly" URLs: http://somesite.com/friendlyurl ...which are rewritten (not redirected) to ASP.NET MVC-style URLs under the hood: http://somesite.com/Controller/Action The user never actually sees any ASP.NET MVC style URLS. If he requests one, we hard 404 it. ASP.NET MVC is (in this app) an implementation detail, not a fundamental interface. My question: how do you examine an arbitrary incoming URL and determine whether or not that URL matches a defined ASP.NET MVC path? For extra credit: how do you do it from inside an ASP.NET-style IHttpModule, where you're getting invoked upstream from the ASP.NET MVC runtime? Thanks!

    I am working on a Geocoding app where I put the address in the URL and retreive the XML. I need the complete XML response for this project. Is there any other class for downloading the XML from a website that may be faster than using WebClient or HttpWebRequest? Can the XMLReader be used to get the full XML without string manipulation and would that be faster and/or more efficient?

  • Is it possible to maintain the url while redirecting to a classic asp page from a controller?

    While migrating a site from a classic asp to MVC, I'm having the problem that not all controllers are implemented yet. For those which are not implemented, I'd like to serve the classic asp page (say /product.asp?id=123) while maintaining the nice url /product/123. To accomplish this I implemented a dummy ProductController which returns a RedirectResult to the classic asp url. But that changes the url in the browsers navigation bar. Requirement has it, that the urls should always be a clean (mvc) one, eventhough the page has not yet been fully migrated. If this can't be done using a dummy controller, what would be an alternative option to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

  • ASP.Net MVC Web App not running

    Hi, I developed an ASP.Net MVC v1 web application and it ran fine on our server. The client wanted to move to another server, and the site does not run on the new host's server. The new server specs: Windows 2008 ASP.Net Framework v4 ASP.Net MVC 2 (afaik its included with .Net v4) IIS 7.5 (afaik) Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. My understanding is that it should be backwards compatible. Is the app really trying to run in ASP.Net MVC v1 when v2 is available? I have already tried deploying the MVC .dlls to the Bin folder, but it did not work. I also tried changing all the system.Web.Mvc Version values (in the web.config for the web app) from 1.0.0.0 to 2.0.0.0, which also did not work. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  • Stepping through ASP.NET MVC in Action (2009) - and stuck on nunit issue

    I seem to have missed something - in this step through it talks through downloading nunit and changing the original MSTest reference to NUnit. Which seems fine until it talks about running the test with UnitRun from JetBrains. I would have thought I could run nUnit to be able to run the test - but I load my project in the nUnit gui and I get "This assembly was not built with any known testing framework". This after running the Nunit-2.5.3.9346.msi. Or am I supposed to be able to run tests from within visual studio 2008? After some research I find this: http://www.jetbrains.com/unitrun/ (ie. it seems to be saying this is no longer supported and I'm thinking JetBrains Resharper may cost money?). I'm a little rusty on my NUnit experience. So how do I go ahead and run my test? Is the error message I'm getting considered abnormal? I've added a reference in my MvcApplication.Tests project to the nunit.framework. Is this the wrong reference to add? Thanks :)

    I am trying to connect to oracle database. I am able to connect to it through a local SQL Developer tool by sticking something in the oranames.tns file. My question is that i will be deploying this website to a number of places. A few questions: What is the simplest way i can use to connect to this database and do very basic queries. I see some examples that have me referencing oracleclient dlls. Other methods not? Is there a best practice here? Am i going to have to update the oranames.tns file on everyone on of the machines that i deploy to ? is there any simpler way

    When not using areas dealing with the url for the JsonResults from the clientside is not much of a pain, usually you can get away with hardcoding the url into your json calls and get away with it. Problem arises when you have different areas and you don't want to update all your links when you move a controller (and its views) from one area to the other. I'm not very satisfied with the way I'm handling this scenario by having this chunk of code inside every view: <script type="text/javascript"> var ControllerActions = { JsonSearch: '<%= Url.Action("JsonSearch") %>/', JsonDelete: '<%= Url.Action("JsonDelete") %>/', Edit: '<%= Url.Action("Edit") %>/', Delete: '<%= Url.Action("Delete") %>/' } </script> While it does work no matter where I place the views/controllers I wonder if there's a more elegant to do this.
