    I am reading some parameters (from user input) from a .txt file and want to make sure that my script could read it even a space or tab is left before that particular parameter by user. Also if I want to add a comment for each parameter followed by # , after the parameter (e.g 7870 # this is default port number) to let the user know about the parameter How can I achieve it in same file? Right now, I am using split /\|\s/. The question is: "Is exiting OnStart without doing nothing enough if Initialize returns false?   • Is there a certain IIS configuration required to allow a functioning .Net 4.0 ASP.Net MVC 2 Azure ap

    I just installed the Azure 1.2 tools update and would like to get to work on an Azure project running locally using ASP.Net MVC and .Net 4, but I cannot get MVC pages to load. If I just create a new Azure project in VS 2010, add a ASP.Net MVC web role, and run the application, pages never load. It appears that routing is somehow at fault as controller actions never get called, but if I add other pages to the project (like .htm or .aspx) they will load in the browser. It all works fine with a new project using .Net 3.5, MVC 2 project in the Azure development environment; it all works fine with .Net 4.0 MVC 2 project that is not running in Azure; only the combination does not work. Environment is Win 7 x64 (IIS 7.5), VS 2010, Azure tools 1.2 Is there some magic IIS setting I need to change or something? Any ideas?

  • How can I share Configuration Settings across multiple projects in Visual Studio?

    Ok I know this may be a design issue, so I would love to have remarks on that as well. I have a Visual Studio web application solution. I have three projects as UserInterface, BusinessLogic and DataAccess. I had to store some user defined settings and I created configSections in the config file. I access these configSections through classes which inherit from .NET's ConfigurationSection base class. So in short for every project I had a separate configSection and for that corresponding configSection I had a class in that project inheriting from ConfigurationSection to access the config section settings. This works all sweet. But the problem arises if there is any setting which I need to use across multiple projects. So If I need to use a setting defined in UserInterface project configSection in, let say, BusinessLogic project I have to actually make a copy of that setting in the BusinessLogic's configSection. This ends up having the same setting copied across multiple configSections. Isn't this a bit too redundant?

    I really need someone to help me to fully understand how to do many-to-many relationship with Entity Framework 4 CTP 5, POCO. I need to understand 3 concepts: How to config my model to indicates some tables are many-to-many. How to properly do insert. How to properly do update. Here are my current models: public class MusicSheet { [Key] public int ID { get; set; } public string Title { get; set; } public string Key { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Author> Authors { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Tag> Tags { get; set; } } public class Author { [Key] public int ID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Bio { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<MusicSheet> MusicSheets { get; set; } } public class Tag { [Key] public int ID { get; set; } public string TagName { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<MusicSheet> MusicSheets { get; set; } } As you can see, the MusicSheet can have many Authors or Tags, and an Author or Tag can have multiple MusicSheets. Again, my questions are: What to do on the EntityTypeConfiguration to set the relationship between them as well as mapping to an table/object that associates with the many-to-many relationship. How to insert a new music sheets (where it might have multiple authors or multiple tags). How to update a music sheet. For example, I might set TagA, TagB to MusicSheet1, but later I need to change the tags to TagA and TagC. It seems like I need to first check to see if the tags already exists, if not, insert the new tag and then associate it with the music sheet (so that I doesn't re-insert TagA?). Or this is something already handled by the framework? Thank you very much. I really hope to fully understand it rather than just doing it without fully understand what's going on. Especially on #3.

    Hi, I've taken over a legacy application and I have the exe created. If I can configure the BDE then in theory it should be possible to run this. Someone indicated that Delphi needs to be installed in order for the app to run. I'm unsure of that - it doesn't quite make sense to me as there is an exe file.     These days, any decent Windows desktop application must perform well and look good under the following conditions: XP and Vista and Windows 7. 32 bit and 64 bit. With and without Themes. With and without Aero. At 96 and 120 and perhaps custom DPIs. One or more monitors (screens). Each OS has its own preferred font. Oh my! What is a lowly little Windows desktop application developer to do? :( I'm hoping to get a thread started with suggestions on how to deal with this GUI dilemma. First off, I'm on Delphi 7. a) Does Delphi 2010 bring anything new to the table to help with this situation? b) Should we pick an aftermarket component suite and rely on them to solve all these problems? c) Should we go with an aftermarket skinning engine? d) Perhaps a more HTML-type GUI is the way to go. Can we make a relatively complex GUI app with HTML that doesn't require using a browser? (prefer to keep it form based) e) Should we just knuckle down and code through each one of these scenarios and quit bitching about it? f) And finally, how in the world are we supposed to test all these conditions?

    I am using the CodeSorcery arm-eabi-gcc tool chain and I have a problem using ld separate from gcc I can compile my simple program and link it, if I let gcc call the ld. This works not problem g++ test.cpp; # Works This does not work because of missing symbols g++ -c test.cpp ld -o test crti.o crtbegin.o test.o crtend.o crtn.o -lgcc -lc -lstdc++; # Fails Notice I am adding the gcc libraries to the ld command What am I missing? Also if there is a better way to make configuring ld to using the default gcc linking? Thanks

  • What is the "Entity" reffering to in fluent Nhibernate Mapping Configuration?

    I am trying to learn fluent nhibernate better so am doing a basic sample application from scratch, instead of using someone elses framework. However, I am finding I really don't understand what is going on in assigning mapping files. I have seen a lot of code examples which are all showing the same code, but nothing that spells it out. No description of how it works just that it works. Here is a code example that I see often. return Fluently.Configure() .Database(config) .Mappings(m => m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssemblyOf<Entity>()) .BuildSessionFactory(); So in the code example what is Entity? and how does that piece of code work? Part of me thinks it is the name of the assembly, but seeing as how the namespace I am using is usually the name of the assembly the compiler complains that I am using a namespace as a type. I feel this is important and am rather flustered by the fact I can't figure it out. Thanks

    Hi, I have been wondering about the usefulness of writing tests that match code one-by-one. Just an example: in Rails, you can define 7 restful routes in one line in routes.rb using: resources :products BDD/TDD proscribes you test first and then write code. In order to test the full effect of this line, devs come up with macros e.g. for shoulda: http://kconrails.com/2010/01/27/route-testing-with-shoulda-in-ruby-on-rails/ class RoutingTest < ActionController::TestCase # simple should_map_resources :products end I'm not trying to pick on the guy that wrote the macros, this is just an example of a pattern that I see all over Rails. I'm just wondering what the use of it is... in the end you're just duplicating code and the only thing you test is that Rails works. You could as well write a tool that transforms your test macros into actual code... When I ask around, people answer me that: "the tests should document your code, so yes it makes sense to write them, even if it's just one line corresponding to one line" What are your thoughts?

  • How can I generate XML application configuration using Zend_Tool?

    When creating a new project using zf create project myproject it will create a default project layout with an application.ini in the configs folder. Where can I change these default settings so that it generates (and uses) an XML file (application.xml)? I've looked at the documentation for Zend_Tool (http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/zend.tool.html), but there seems to be no information on how to do this. And suppose you'd like to use a different default folder layout (ie. use htdocs instead of public as your document root), is there a way to specify this as well? Any pointers to relevant information (btw I've looked at the Quickstart, nothing relevant is mentioned there unless I'm overlooking it)? edit I already tried creating a profile (stored in .zf/project/profiles), and used that to create a project (using zf create project myproject myprofile) but that doesn't change anything, even though the .zfproject.xml file in the root of the new project does contain the <applicationConfigFile type="xml"/> setting...   • How do you pull the URL for an ASP.NET web reference from a configuration file in Visual Studio 2008

    I have a web reference for our report server embedded in our application. The server that the reports live on could change though, and I'd like to be able to change it "on the fly" if necessary.     I used to use Spring.Net and want to switch to Ninject 1.5 (I have to use .NET2, since some unlucky guy like me still needs to consider users working with win 2k). I used to have everything done in xml and only invoke the container during startup. In this way, only very limited codes are depending on container. I have scenarios like this and I wonder how to do the same in Ninject. I have external config file, which are the items the end users can change basing on their environment/preferences. And some of my objects depends on those values to initialize. Mostly they are primary values, but some times can be list/dictionaries/etc.

  • How do I restore an Apache configuration after a hard restart?

    I installed Apache on my Ubuntu server, and when it installed, it created a directory ~/Apache/ with directories such as htdocs, logs, cgi-bin, etc. I was then able to create several pages and scripts which I placed into the corresponding directories (~/Apache/htdocs, ~/Apache/cgi-bin), and I was able to serve these files on the web. Unfortunately, my server had an unexpected hard restart, and since then, it seems like the files aren't being served. The server is still up, but when I navigate to the URL, I get a page that says "It works!" instead of what was expected. Does anyone know how I can get Apache to serve from ~/Apache/htdocs again? I tried to RTFM and Google for an answer already but it wasn't very helpful.
