  • Determining the magnitude of a certain frequency on the iPhone

    I'm wondering what's the easiest/best way to determine the magnitude of a given frequency in a sound. It's my understanding that a FFT function will return the magnitudes of all frequencies in a signal. I'm wondering if there is any shortcut I could use if I'm only concerned about a specific frequency. I'll be using the iPhone mic to record the audio. My guess is that I'll be using the Audio Queue Services for recording since I don't need to record the audio to a file. I'm using SDK 4.0, so I can use any of the functions defined in the Accelerate framework (e.g. FFT functions) if needed. Update: I updated the question to be more clear as per Conrad's suggestion.

  • feature extraction from acoustic signals

    Hi everyone, It's been a while. I found APIs in Java for extracting features from acoustic audio files and symbolic files separately. But now I have a problem in mapping from low level wav audio features to high level midi features. i.e. I need to write the extracted wav audio features on to midi format. But I cannot think of anything even close to it. Can someone pls provide me some insight as in how I can approach this. Greatly appreciate your responses. Advance thanks

  • How to stream a WAV file?

    I'm writing an app where I record audio and upload the audio file over the web. In order to speed up the upload I want to start uploading before I've finished recording. The file I'm creating is a WAV file. My plan was to use multiple data chunks. So instead of the normal encoding (RIFF, fmt , data) I’m using (RIFF, fmt , data, data, ..., data). The first issue is that the RIFF header wants the total length of the whole file, but that is of course not known when streaming the audio (I’m now using an arbitrary number). The other problem is that I'm not sure if it's valid since Audacity doesn't recognise the file, and Windows Media Player opens the file but plays only a very small part. I've been reading WAV specs but haven’t found an answer. Any suggestions?

  • How to use files/streams as source/sink in PulseAudio

    I'm a PulseAudio noob, and I'm not sure if I'm even using the correct terminology. I've seen that PulseAudio can perform echo cancellation, but it needs a source and a sink to filter from, and a new source and sink. I can provide my mic and my audio-out as the source and sink, right? Now, here's my situation: I have two video streams, say, rtmp streams, or consider two flv files, say at any given moment, stream X is the input stream that's coming from another computer's webcam+mic and stream Y is the output stream that I'm sending, (and it's coming from my computer's webcam+mic). Question: Back to the first paragraph - here's the thing, I don't want to use my mic and my audio-out, instead, I want to use these two "input" and "output" streams as my source and sink so to speak (of course, I'll use xuggler maybe, to extract just the audio from X and Y). It may be a strange question, and I have my reasons for doing this strange this - I need to experiment and verify the results to see.

  • C# - .WAV Playback Randomly High Pitch

    For some reason, when a WAV file is played back using the snippet below, it randomly plays back screwy, like a high pitch noise. It doesn't happen all the time, just randomly. It seems to happen more often when it is played back more frequently. The WAV properties are below along with the code snippet I am using. WAV Properties: Bit Rate - 750kbps Audio Sample Size - 16 bit Channels - 1 (mono) Audio Sample Rate - 44kHz Audio Format - PCM Snippet: System.Media.SoundPlayer myPlayer = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(Captcha.Properties.Resources.sound1); myPlayer.Play(); Is this because of the way I am playing the file or the file itself?   • ImageMagick failing to convert to JPG

    Hi: We recently installed the latest version of ImageMagick onto our Linux server. I seem to be having issues performing the most basic of tasks. I am running this command line: /usr/bin/convert /location/to/source/design.ai /location/to/save/output.jpg Unfortunatly is saves design.jpg as an illustrator file (if I rename the file to output.ai it opens). Even if I do this: /usr/bin/convert /location/to/source/design.ai -rotate 90 /location/to/save/design.jpg It rotates the file and saves again as an illustrator document. This happens with all filetypes (e.g. png, bmp, etc...) It appears ImageMagick cannot figure out what I want it converted to and just saves as the same file type. Any ideas on fixing this?     I have been successfully converting jpgs to pdf in Mountain Lion with: do shell script "/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/./convert -f " & "\"" & _posix & "\"" & " -o " & "\"" & _newPosix & "\"" I recently moved to Mavericks and now get this error: -- error "sh: /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/./convert: No such file or directory" number 127 The error message is right - the directory does not exist under Mavericks. Can anyone suggest a replacement for this code?

  • Word 2010 not printing body text on pages with images

    I've got a document exhibiting bizarre behavior -- when I print, the body text style is only displayed on pages without images. Headings, header and footer, and captions are printing on the page, along with any graphics such as border styles applied to the style, but the text itself doesn't print -- except for en dashes. The text is pretty basic -- a justified Calibri style. Images are their own style, a centered paragraph item. There's no floating image boxes or text boxes going on, everything's a paragraph style. It's not a print driver issue. I get identical behavior on both a HP and Brother laser printer. It's also not a paragraph-level style issue; I've inserted enough dummy text to move a printing paragraph on a page with no images to the next page, which has an image, and the paragraph does not print on the next page. Has anyone run into an issue like this and knows the solution?

  • In SSIS Convert European Currency Format to United States Currency Format

    I have an interesting problem. I have an SSIS package that processes account data. We are now processing files from Europe. These files are in a CSV format using text qualifiers. For an example of the problem: In the United States the currency format is 123456.99 (We purposely leave the thousands separator out). The files sent from Europe are coming in with two formats. One is 123456,99 and the other is 123.456,00. SSIS is attempting to parse the text file and place it into a NUMERIC(20,2) field. This causes a parsing error in SSIS even with the text qualifiers. If I change the field to CURRENCY it sends a conversion error. I would like for SSIS to deal with this directly without requiring the data to be in the United States format. Has anyone had this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Rob

    I have an SSL certificate in .p7b format that I need to convert to .pfx. If I try this through the windows certificate managment the option to expert as a .pfx is disabled. Trying with openssl I have found the following two commands to do the conversion: openssl pkcs7 -print_certs -in certificate.p7b -out certificate.cer openssl pkcs12 -export -in certificate.cer -inkey privateKey.key -out certificate.pfx -certfile CACert.cer but I'm not sure what key to use for teh esecond command, or what certificate CACert.cer refers to. How can I convert this key to .pfx format?

    On Debian Sid, I have a PDF with a blue background and yellow font. I've searched a lot on Super User but i haven't found anything useful for me. I have tried to convert the PDF into a grayscale one with: gs -o grayscale.pdf -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sColorConversionStrategy=Gray -sProcessColorModel=DeviceGray -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 colored.pdf The problem is that I obtain a PDF whit white fonts and dark grey background so I cannot print it. After that I tried: convert -density 96x96 gs2.pdf -density 96x96 -negate -compress zip inv.pdf I got a PDF with black fonts (and this is okay) and grey background (and this is not okay). What can I do to obtain a PDF with white background and black fonts?

    I use MS Outlook as email client. When I receive email from certain email addresses(sender within my company/domain itself), and I use the reply button option to reply it, all the menus like - Font type, Font size, Text color, Bold, Italics, Text indentation, Bullets, numbering, are disabled. It doesn't allow me to use any of the above features. This happens only for some email id's where I receive mail from. Not all. Then when I checked in the message properties, it was Plain Text , rather than HTML. But shouldn't outlook allow me the formatting of the messages I reply/compose based on My settings which are HTML? How can I enable to have Rich text formatting enabled while I reply to a text mail?

  • Set Thunderbird to always reply using plain text [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: How do I tell Thunderbird never to send (or even try to send) html emails? In the account settings of Thunderbird (version 11.0.1) I have disabled HTML and set it to compose messages as plain text. That works for new messages. However, when I get an HTML email and reply to that mail, Thunderbird uses HTML. I went to the setting in: Tools ? Options ? Composition ? Send Options ? Plain Text Domains And have tried *.* as the domain name. I also changed the default text format in Settings - Compose - Send options. Neither of them works, the reply is still using HTML (for my own text). How can I really reply in plain text only, regardless of incoming?

  • Batch convert of Word docs with images to HTML

    OK, here is my situation: I made a knowledge base for a company, they have about 500 word documents with screenshots in them explaining procedures and such. I can easily paste the text into the cms wysiwyg editor on the knowledge base but the images need to be uploaded one at a time, then sized and placed in the article. Question: Is there any suggestions for an automatic method to to convert the documents to html with the appropriate image tags and links to the images in them, and export/package the images for ftp upload? I can already convert them to HTML automatically using a batch file and a program, but converting the images to the correct tags with href link, then exporting them for ftp is where i need some help. Might not even be possible, but if anyone has tried to do something like this I would like to here how you approached this.

  • wmp12 refuses to convert files when syncing

    I have quite a large music collection of MP3s at 320kbps and some WMA files at various bitrates. I'm trying to sync some of them to my HTC Desire and am quickly running out of space. WMP12 has options to set, per device you wish to sync, to auto convert to a lower bitrate whilst syncing. I have set this to auto convert files to a maximum bitrate of 192kbps, that way I can fit more music on the device but keep the files on my PC at the higher rate. See these screens to see that it's set up correctly. Only problem is, surprise surprise for a Microsoft product, it doesn't actually work. Any file that is greater than 192kbps, MP3 or WMA simply fails, doesn't get converted or copied to the device. The message in the sync log displays the rather unhelpful message "error" and that's it. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not really looking for alternative software solutions I'd like to get this working since that's what it's supposed to do.

  • 'Content' is NOT 'Text' in XAML

    One of the key concepts in XAML is that the Content property of a XAML control like a Button or ComboBoxItem does not have to contain just textual data. In fact, Content can be almost any other XAML that you want. To illustrate here is a simple example of how to spruce up your Button controls in Silverlight. Here is some very simple XAML that consists of two Button controls within a StackPanel on a Silverlight User Control. <StackPanel>  <Button Name="btnHome"          HorizontalAlignment="Left"          Content="Home" />  <Button Name="btnLog"          HorizontalAlignment="Left"          Content="Logs" /></StackPanel> The XAML listed above will produce a Silverlight control within a Browser that looks like Figure 1.   Figure 1: Normal button controls are quite boring. With just a little bit of refactoring to move the button attributes into Styles, we can make the buttons look a little better. I am a big believer in Styles, so I typically create a Resources section within my user control where I can factor out the common attribute settings for a particular set of controls. Here is a Resources section that I added to my Silverlight user control. <UserControl.Resources>  <Style TargetType="Button"         x:Key="NormalButton">    <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment"            Value="Left" />    <Setter Property="MinWidth"            Value="50" />    <Setter Property="Margin"            Value="10" />  </Style></UserControl.Resources> Now back in the XAML within the Grid control I update the Button controls to use the Style attribute and have each button use the Static Resource called NormalButton. <StackPanel>  <Button Name="btnHome"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}"          Content="Home" />  <Button Name="btnLog"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}"          Content="Logs" /></StackPanel> With the additional attributes set in the Resources section on the Button, the above XAML will now display the two buttons as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2: Use Resources to Make Buttons More Consistent Now let’s re-design these buttons even more. Instead of using words for each button, let’s replace the Content property to use a picture. As they say… a picture is worth a thousand words, so let’s take advantage of that. Modify each of the Button controls and eliminate the Content attribute and instead, insert an <Image> control with the <Button> and the </Button> tags. Add a ToolTip to still display the words you had before in the Content and you will now have better looking buttons, as shown in Figure 3.   Figure 3: Using pictures instead of words can be an effective method of communication The XAML to produce Figure 3 is shown in the following listing: <StackPanel>  <Button Name="btnHome"          ToolTipService.ToolTip="Home"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}">    <Image Style="{StaticResource NormalImage}"            Source="Images/Home.jpg" />  </Button>  <Button Name="btnLog"          ToolTipService.ToolTip="Logs"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}">    <Image Style="{StaticResource NormalImage}"            Source="Images/Log.jpg" />  </Button></StackPanel> You will also need to add the following XAML to the User Control’s Resources section. <Style TargetType="Image"        x:Key="NormalImage">  <Setter Property="Width"          Value="50" /></Style> Add Multiple Controls to Content Now, since the Content can be whatever we want, you could also modify the Content of each button to be a StackPanel control. Then you can have an image and text within the button. <StackPanel>  <Button Name="btnHome"          ToolTipService.ToolTip="Home"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}">    <StackPanel>      <Image Style="{StaticResource NormalImage}"              Source="Images/Home.jpg" />      <TextBlock Text="Home"                  Style="{StaticResource NormalTextBlock}" />    </StackPanel>  </Button>  <Button Name="btnLog"          ToolTipService.ToolTip="Logs"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}">    <StackPanel>      <Image Style="{StaticResource NormalImage}"              Source="Images/Log.jpg" />      <TextBlock Text="Logs"                  Style="{StaticResource NormalTextBlock}" />    </StackPanel>  </Button></StackPanel> You will need to add one more resource for the TextBlock control too. <Style TargetType="TextBlock"        x:Key="NormalTextBlock">  <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment"          Value="Center" /></Style> All of the above will now produce the following:   Figure 4: Add multiple controls to the content to make your buttons even more interesting. Summary While this is a simple example, you can see how XAML Content has great flexibility. You could add a MediaElement control as the content of a Button and play a video within the Button. Not that you would necessarily do this, but it does work. What is nice about adding different content within the Button control is you still get the Click event and other attributes of a button, but it does necessarily look like a normal button.   • I (stupidly) converted a TrueCrypt encrypted disk to GPT in Disk Management: now TrueCrypt won't mount it

    Backstory: After moving a Macrium Reflect disk image from my TrueCrypt external drive (with whole disk encryption) onto a unencrypted drive and using Windows PE with Macrium Reflect to restore my internal disk to the recovery image on the external unencrypted drive, my Windows 8 failed to boot. I then went back and also recovered the System Partition (looking now, it is currently EFI), but I still couldn't boot into my backup.. I was in a hurry to get online for something so I just did a clean install of Windows 8, without the backup.. After I installed Windows 8, I went into Disk Management out of curiosity to see if there were other partitions with Windows 8 that Macruim might have missed, and there is (by default) a Recovery Partition of 100MB. My memory of this is hazy, as I was trying to get up and running for an exam at 4 AM: Something in Disk Management prompted me to convert my encrypted external drive to GPT.. I have no idea why I did this, but I went ahead and allowed it to convert my TrueCrypt drive to GPT. Now, I can't mount the drive in TrueCrypt.. Disk Management sees it as Disk 1, Basic, and Unallocated. I tried converting it back to MBR with Disk Management, but no dice with TrueCrypt :( If I try to mount the disk in TrueCrypt I get the message: Incorrect password or not a TrueCrypt volume I should never have messed with a Truecrypt drive in Disk Management, but I did. I have important college work in that drive, and fear I have lost it forever. PLEASE HELP
