• Blue screen of death while installing any Adobe Air application

  Whenever I try to install an Air application I get a Blue Screen and then my system restarts. I cannot even take a screenshot of it. This happens with every air application I try to install. I also searched for the same on Adobe forums and found the same problem being faced by someone else. His problem was resolved by uninstalling a software named "Folder Lock". I searched my hard disk for this software and found one, so I deleted that software (shift+delete) and removed all it's traces from registry too but that still doesn't solved the problem. I also tried disabling the antivirus software and then install the air application but this also didn't helped. Here is the screenshot of the BSOD. I was able to install air applications earlier, but now I can't. Anybody having same sort of problem. One colleague of mine is also having the same problem. Please help me out. My system's config is as follows: Windows XP Home sp3 Flash Builder 4, with SDK 4.1, 3.5 installed in it. Adobe Air v 2.5 1.5 GB RAM 1.66 MHz processor Thanks

• Force Windows Local Subnet Traffic through a Gateway

  Hi all, We are attempting to route all traffic from a certain machine to a gateway. This works ok for traffic destined for subnets outside of the machine's subnet. However, traffic to machines in the same subnet as the source machine goes through an On-Link gateway in Windows. This means that the default gateway is ignored, and traffic in a subnet (for example, 192.168.50.10 - 192.168.50.11) flows. Destination Netmask Gateway Interface Metric 192.168.50.0 255.255.255.0 On-link 192.168.50.214 276 This route can be deleted from Windows, but when the machine is rebooted it always comes back. Adding a persistant static route to the gateway with a lower metric doesn't work, since it will still try the On-Link gateway after the persistant route fails. Adding each machine in a VLAN isn't an option due to the setup we have Adding a startup script to delete the gateway isn't a great option either, since users will have full admin access to the machine and might disable the script. We cannot transperantly intercept all network traffic on the subnet using Gratuitous ARPs or transparent proxying, since there are other machines on the subnet which use a different gateway The only way we have gotten it to work is by adding a persistant route to the gateway for the subnet traffic, and deleting the On-link route on reboot. The question is then. Is there a way to permanently remove this On-link route If not, is there a way to otherwise force even local subnet traffic to go through a gateway?

• SCCM 2012 - some remote clients unable to download some applications, 401.2 error

  I've got a small SCCM 2012 deployment with about 35 clients attached. Most of these clients are in the same network as the single SCCM host, but three are about 1000 miles away. Oddly, these three clients have stopped being able to download some application packages over BITS. Publishing a new package works for all the other clients, but for these three it never seems to download. If I go to the software centre, it just hangs at "0% downloaded". All clients are members of the same domain and appear to be (otherwise) working great. I've re-installed the SCCM client, deleted and re-added the computer to SCCM. Some other packages seem to work fine, the daily anti-malware delta gets downloaded and patched without issue. Why are these packages failing?

• socket problem with MySQL

  This is a recent problem... MySQL was working and a couple of days ago I must have done something. I deleted MySQL and tried reinstalling using the .dmg file. The mysql.sock file never gets created and I get the following error messages: Hristo$ mysql Enter password: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) I also tried stopping Apache and installing but Apache gave me an error... I don't know if this is good or bad: Hristo$ sudo apachectl stop launchctl: Error unloading: org.apache.httpd I tried the MacPorts installation as well but the socket file still didn't get created. I don't really know what to do and I don't want to reinstall Snow Leopard and start from scratch :/ I also tried installing the 32-bit version and same deal. No luck. Finally... I tried doing the source installation but when I get to the configuration step, I get the following error: -bash: ./configure: No such file or directory The file is "mysql-5.1.47-osx10.6-x86_64.tar.gz" so I think it is the proper file for source installation and yes I have a 64 bit system. • Windows XP SP3 Keyboard stops working

  Here's the strangest thing I have yet to see in 20+ yrs of computer repairs. My in-laws Windowsx XP SP3 has stopped recognizing keyboards. The keyboards work fine in the BIOS, during the boot select process to boot normally, etc. but once Windows comes up it will not recognize any USB keyboard. The USB mouse works fine, have tried different USB ports, different keyboards, etc. nothing works. I can log into the machine via VNC and use the remote keyboard just fine, but not connected locally. Tried a system restore, it says nothing changed. I am about to just re-install Windows at this point, except I am afraid it will happen again. I have googled for this and it is not unheard of, but I have not found any solution other than nuking it. Anyone have any ideas? I have re-installed the USB drivers for the M/B. Gone into devices and deleted them for a re-install, etc. Keyboard works off a Linux live boot CD, and in the BIOS setup so it is not a hardware issue, and I have tried a few keyboards all of which I know are good and work fine on other systems.

• Cachefilesd (cachefiles) everything seems to be set up, still not working

  I'm trying to set up cachefilesd to work with my network folder shared using NFS. I have seemingly everything set up, however cachefilesd starts normally, however caching isn't functioning. • Low CPU performance with low usage and clock - Windows 8.1

  I recently deleted everything from my PC and reinstalled Windows 8.1 from scratch. When I first booted into Windows everything was extremely slow though the CPU usage was very low (about 1%). After installing some drivers the problem seemed to be solved, I was able to use my PC normally. Today I installed a game and I noticed a strange behavior: the game was playable but the performance worsened more and more in the time. This is the situation BEFORE opening the game (normal): This is AFTER some minutes inside the game (low CPU usage and clock): Some information about my system: PC: Sony Vaio S13 (SVS13A1C5E) OS: Windows 8.1 CPU: Intel Core i7-3520M 2.90GHz GPU(1): Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU(2): NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE I tried searching for new drivers and other solutions but noting worked and I don't know what is the cause. I did not checked the temperatures but the fans are not running fast and the PC does not look overheated. Update: Max CPU Temp: 66°C, Max GPU Temp: 61°C The strange thing is that the GPU load is 99% (GPU-Z) and the fan is almost silent. Update 2: I had troubles with Sony Vaio software, I can't get the FN keys and the STAMINA/SPEED switch to work (it is a physical switch to enable/disable the Nvidia card and change the Power Profile). I'm saying this because I remember that before reinstalling Windows there was an option in the Vaio Control Center (now it is not there anymore) that allowed me to choose from something like "priority to performance (ventilation)" or "priority to silence". The current behavior looks like a "priority to silence", but I can't get the stamina-speed switch to work and so I don't see similar oprions in the Vaio Control Center. I don't know if the problem is related to this.

• Azure can't ping or telnet VM from client

  I have a VM on Azure with an instance sqlserver 2012 running on it. From my work computer and my home computer I can't get sqlserver management studio connect to it. I have looked at ALL the settings recommended in numerous articles. everything is setup correctly. endpoint 1433 Private and public sqlserver tcp enabled. sqlserver tcp listening on right port sqlserver using mixed auth windows fire wall, holes poked and then disabled on both client and VM can log in from VM using the credentials that I'm trying to use remotely further more I can't ping the dns or ip or tellnet address from my local machines. I can however hit the iis from a browser using the ip. strange. CS asked me to download MS Network Monitor, which I did and pinged and telneted. I have the results saved but can't really make heads or tails of them. CS hasn't responded yet. I can post some info here that would help. EDIT Never one to shrink from a challenge, I deleted my VM and re-did everything. Now it works although my confidence azure is somewhat shaken.

• Can't remotely connect through SQL Server Management Studio

  I have setup a SQL Server 2008 Express instance on a dedicated Windows 2008 Server hosted by 1and1.com. I cannot connect remotely to the server through management studio. I have taken the following steps below and am beyond any further ideas. I have researched the site and cannot figure anything else out so please forgive me if I missed something obvious, but I'm going crazy. Here's the lowdown. The SQL Server instance is running and works perfectly when working locally. In SQL Server Management Studio, I have checked the box "Allow Remote Connections to this Server" I have removed any external hardware firewall settings from the 1and1 admin panel Windows firewall on the server has been disabled, but just for kicks I added an inbound rule that allows for all connections on port 1433. In SQL Native Client configuration, TCP/IP is enabled. I also made sure the "IP1" with the server's IP address had a 0 for dynamic port, but I deleted it and added 1433 in the regular TCP Port field. I also set the "IPALL" TCP Port to 1433. In SQL Native Client configuration, SQL Server Browser is also running and I also tried adding an ALIAS in the I restarted SQL server after I set this value. Doing a "netstat -ano" on the server machine returns a TCP 0.0.0.0:1433 LISTENING UDP 0.0.0.0:1434 LISTENING I do a port scan from my local computer and it says that the port is FILTERED instead of LISTENING. I also tried to connect from Management studio on my local machine and it is throwing a connection error. • Openpgp does not work in my Thunderbird-Installation

  Hello community, as mentioned above - i encountered serious troubles. here are the versions of the related software: SuSE 11.2, Thunderbird v.3.1.6, released October 27, 2010, Firefox 3.6 v3.6.12 I created an installations with an own partition both for the user and for the TB-Mails. For a new installation on another hardware i took these partitions. When i wanted to read the emails, i got an error-message like this: The GPG-agent for your GnuPG-version 2.0.12 couldn´t get started Further i got an error message for the access on services of enigmail. The file jar:file:///usr/lib/mozilla/extensions/{3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6}/{847b3a00-7ab1-11d4-8f02-006008948af5}/chrome/enigmail.jar!/locale/de-DE/enigmail/help/initError.html couldn´t get found. I found out, that this path doesn´t come from TB nor from firefox, but from enigmail. I installed several (un-)pack-programs. the only effect was, that in the menu of TB the entry for OpenPGP appeared in the TB-Menu. The errors as described above repeat at every try to read an email. I deleted and re-installed enigmail, but the errors dont´t disappear. What can i do to get rid these error-messages ? Thanks in advance

• Broken UAC, cant edit File/folders or change settings in user account

  It appears that UAC is broken cant move/delete some file/folders, when asked to use administrative right (and say yes) it shows the loading bar and then nothings gets moved/deleted, no error whatsoever opened control panel, user account and when i click on any option with the Shield (administrative rights) the mouse changes to loading and thengo back to normal, not opening any menu or showing any error Already done a sfc /scannow , no errors found Already used Microsoft's Fix it, reclycle bin broken and repaired, still the same error Used microsoftaccounts tool , this are the errors i got: Problem with microsoft account policy... <- this is the problem (didint fix) Trust this PC <- loop of redirections, cant get to trust this pc (only one with w8) Problems witht sytem registration : i think it is because of the soft system reset Some setting have sync turned off : i never configured anything to sync Rootcauses found and created logs : would like to know where the logs are saved... had to use a ".reg" file to change uac setting to never notify, thinking it would fix this, no, it stoped asking though, i can still open a cmd with Administrative rights, but cant access to UAC settings Accesed Administrator account (net user administrator /active:yes)and even with that account could change any settings so there it is, dont know what else to do in the moment (this pc broke with 8.1 update and was restored to factory configuration, it broke several drivers and kept most of the registry entries, i cant find the cause of this problem. other info: i tried to delete a file in a program folder and couldnt, downloaded unlocker to check first if it was permissions but no, it showed me a msg telling me that there wasnt any error, and if i would like to delete it, clicked on yes, and it did delete it, what amuses me is that i cant without this tool, not even using the feature that takes over ownership Edit: wow, in a not crappy pc chkdsk is fast, completed with no errors found : /

InnoDB: You can drop the orphaned table inside InnoDB by InnoDB: creating an InnoDB table with the same name in another InnoDB: database and copying the .frm file to the current database.   I'm trying to use WIM2VHD according to the instructions on Scott Hanselman's blog post to create a Sysprepped VHD image to boot from. I've installed the WAIK, and I have my Windows 7 sources mounted as a virtual drive. • HP c6180 driver refuses to install - "must reboot to continue delete files and continue install" loo

  User called me last night, can't get HP drivers to install for printer. 500 meg download for latest c6180 driver. PC says "computer must be restarted to delete some files, then setup will continue." and it won't pass that point. (that's not exact phrasing of the error, and I'm not on the system now) Target machine is XP SP2. I upgraded to SP3. Fully patched. Ran malwarebytes, spybot, hijack this and turned off all startup entries. I noted that windows update also failed on optional printer driver updates for other printers installed on the machine. Went to printer server properties, removed all print drivers from system, deleted all printer ports. Made sure no services were marked disabled. After 5 hours of fighting this I started to get desperate, and uninstalled anything that referenced HP in the machine at all. Still no cure. I'm 6 hours into this and completely stumped. Google returns nothing applicable except unanswered requests for help on same topic.

• Ati X1600 driver problem on Mac

  Hi all, I currently own a 06' Macbook pro 1.1, and since some months I have recurrent problems of displays bug or artifacts. I searched quickly around to see that a lot of other users on Mac (iMac or Macbook pro) also have the same problem due to a problem for the X1600 video card. Apparently it's due to overheating problem, in my case even without warming a lot I have very bad display bugs such as colorful pixel lines, or glitches, and freeze and crash, all of this on Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard. I found this interesting article here talking about this problem and trying to gather people so that Apple take the serious GPU problem in consideration. In one of the comments, an user said he removed all bundle named with "radeon" and then he had no more problems under Leopard, and seems ot work fine well too on Snow Leopard. I did the same thing, I removed the bundles of the driver, restart, and no more problems, but not more 3D acceleration, which is not an acceptable solution. For those interested, here is the list of files to be deleted to stop having this problem. /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000.kext /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000GLDriver.bundle /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000VADriver.bundle /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX2000.kext /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle I would like to know if there is a way to fix this using other drivers if that's possible or by creating a group to force Apple to make a replacement program in place. • Installer not being updated ( probably because of Windows 7 file cache )

  I'm creating an installer for my Visual FoxPro application using ISTool and Inno Setup. It is ok for me for the first time. But, I updated my code and re-built the EXE file. Then, compiled the installer again. I found that my update was not compiled into the installer and I did not see the update in my running application. I noticed that the EXE file, which was built by VFP, was updated properly. It seems the installation script did not output the updated file. But, when I changed folder names, it did work. I don't want to change folder names whenever I run that installation script. It is not a good idea actually. I think it is because of Windows 7 cache system. Mine is Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1. For example, My previous output file is located at C:\path\to\myinstaller.exe When I compile the installation script, the output file there should be overwritten, but it was not as expected. Although I deleted the file, it did not work. When I changed to output file path as C:\newpath\to\myinstaller.exe, I got the fix, but it is not a solution what I'm looking for. Does anyone how to do that? [Edit] I found that the installed directory was not updated properly. For example, I installed the program to C:\Program files\MyInstalledApp When I run the installer again, that installation directory should be overwritten, but failed. Thus, I got to uninstall the app before I re-install it. Is there any fix for this?

• ghettoVCB issue

  I have setup a ghettoVCB script in order to backup three VM. I put it in a crontab but I have an issue. In my backup folder I have 3 different folders, one for each VM. In each folder I have the following files: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1263 Mar 17 01:51 vm1-2010-03-16--2.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1263 Mar 17 00:41 vm1-2010-03-16--3.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1261 Mar 18 01:22 vm1-2010-03-17--1.gz drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 980 Mar 19 23:39 vm1-2010-03-19 The problem is the last folder. It seems that a backup didn't finish the process. • Ubuntu 12.4 compiz - disable all compiz plugin - empty screen

  A friend of mine has installed on my new machine Ubuntu 10.4 (I have always been windows user and have no experience with Linux). I started to watch some tutorial about how to make 'Rotated Cube' using 'Compiz',but the cube appears in the form of a list (only two slides). I have thought this could be result of my video cards (only two - one from the processor and one from the motherboard) and they can not support this options. Anyway, I have decided to disable all compiz plugins and options because my friend has set some, and I started to think there is some misunderstanding between the plugins. After, that I got only empty screen(no menu, no icons, anything) and can do nothing. How to fix this? EDIT: When I remove the compiz stuffs (from the console), the menu is shown again. Then I install the compiz again (some of the effect are still not working). After restart or log out/in the menu is hidden again. I suppose that there are some settings that I've broken but they are saved somewhere in the system and remove the compiz do not deleted them and as a result they are activated after compiz is installed again and the PC is restarted?

• Why won't Google Chrome install on my Windows 7?

  I can tell something is wrong with my computer. A little history: Google Chrome was not running correctly. When i was using facebook, any link on face that ran an ajax javascript function would not work. No error was being thrown, it just wasn't working. I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled it. On re-install, a toolbar automatically installed with Chrome. BitTorrentBar. I did not install BitTorrentBar, it installed on it's own. Bad. When BitTorrentBar was active, then ajax functions on facebook worked. When I deactivated or uninstalled BittorrentBar from Chrome extensions, then ajax stopped working. I ran scanned the computer with Avast (free version) and SpyBot Search and Destroy (also free). They found nothing wrong. I uninstalled Chrome using Control Panel and then I went through my file system deleting anything that had "google", "BitTorrent", "chrome", or "conduit". Conduit seems to distribute BitTorrentBar. After doing all that, I tried to reinstall Chrome. I got this error: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specified at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfo startInfo) at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(ProcessStartInfo startInfo) at ClickOnceBootStrap.ClickOnceEntry.Main() This error interupts the Chrome install every time! computer scans don't show anything wrong. So then, I thought this might be a .net framework error. Perhaps I deleted something I wasn't supposed to. So I reinstalled .NET Framework 4 and checked the repair option. I also ran Windows Updates. When I tried to download Chrome, again I got the same error as listed above. What should I do?

• Windows system restore deletes various executables and *.js files. How does it decide which files to delete?

  I restored my system from a Windows System Restore point. It solved some issues I was having, but introduced other strange problems (like my optical drive disappeared). One thing that surprised me was several files from my Web2Py installation were deleted: the executables and *.js files; possibly some others (like favicon.ico). I did not expect this because Web2Py is basically a portable, standalone application. You just unzip it and run the executable inside, so nothing should be registered with Windows. My question is: what files does Windows system restore delete, and how does it decide this? I'm just wondering what other files I'm missing and if there's a way to get restore them (without rolling back the restore point). Perhaps it scans for certain files types (like exe, js, ico, dll) with a creation date that was after the restore point creation date? • How often is CRL refreshed, and how to force it to be?

  I have a web service running under IIS 7 that requires an X509 client certificate. I know that the server that it rus on needs access to DigiCert.com in order to be able to get the CRL (Certificate Revocation List). There is a need to change our proxy so I am attempting to investigate the impact of doing so. I have removed the global proxy settings using the command netsh winhttp proxy refesh, and also deleted the CRL cache using the command certutil -URLcache CRL delete. However, after doing this, all calls to the web service still succeed. This suggests to me that I am missing something here. So; If the CRL cache is cleared and the server has no way of refreshing the CRL, why do web service requets not return http 403?. I have been unable to find adequate information from googling nor from my colleagues. The reason I want it to fail is that I will not be confident that the new proxy settings work until I can see it broken first, if that makes sense. I would also like to be able to force the CRL to be refeshed in order to ensure that the new proxy settings work

  Hi, I setup ghettoVCB script in order to backup 3 VM. I put it in a crontab but I have an issue. In my backup folder I have 3 different folder, one for each VM. • Editing a windows XP installation's registry without being able to log in.

  I've got a windows XP installation that has a corrupt registry. A worm (which was removed) had hijacked the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon entry (which should have a value of Userinit=C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe When the worm was removed, the corrupt entry was deleted entirely, and now the system automatically logs off immediately after attempting to log in. Regardless of the user and boot mode, no accounts can be logged in to. The only thing required to correct this behavior is to restore the registry key, but I cannot come up with any ways of editing the registry without logging in to an account. I tried remotely connecting to the registry but the required services aren't enabled on the machine. I tried booting on the same machine using the BartPE boot CD but I could not find any way of editing the registry on the C:\Windows installation - running regedit only modifies the X:\I386\ registry in memory. So, what can I use modify the registry of an un-login-able Windows XP instance so that I can log in again? Thanks guys. EDIT: The fix worked. The solution to the auto-logoff problem was, as hoped, to simply add the value mentioned above to the appropriate registry entry. This can be done using the BartPE Boot CD, as described in the accepted answer below, but I used the Offline NT Registry Editor software mentioned in another answer. The steps were: Boot from the NT Registry Editor CD Follow the directions until the appropriate boot sector is loaded. Instead of using one of the default options for modifying passwords or user accounts, type "software" to edit that hive. Type '9' to enter the command line based registry editor. Type "cd Microsoft" (enter) "cd Windows NT" (enter) "cd CurrentVersion" (enter) "cd Winlogon" (enter) Type "nv 1 Userinit" to create a new value under the Winlogon key Type "ev Userinit" to edit the new value, and when prompted, type "C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe" (enter) Type 'q' to quit the registry editor, and as you back out of the system, follow directions to write the hive back to disk. Restart your computer and log in - problem solved. (generic 'warning: back up your registry' disclaimer)

  I'm having difficulties to find a backup and synchronization solution with the following characteristics: Cross-platform: Windows, Linux, Mac Offsite backup (so Internet Backup) Data deduplication Transfer only new/modified bits of modified files Secure: Data encrypted before leaving computer Maintain multiple versions of files (even deleted files) Folder synchronization integrated with backup and across multiple computers connected to the internet (not necessarily in the same LAN) I think that the Folder Sync feature needs a better explanation. The use case is this: you have a desktop pc and a laptop. The desktop pc contains a folder with some files and this folder is part of the backup (so it was selected to be backed up). The laptop does not contain that folder or that files at all. Then you're abroad with your laptop and you need that folder. So you want to be able to open the backup program, select that folder from the backup and download it in your laptop mantaining it synchronized with the backed up version. When you then come back home and switch on your desktop pc you want the folder we're talking about to be updated in the desktop PC. Does anyone knows any service with all these features? I've only found SpiderOak to support all the features I've mentioned but I'm not completely satisfied by the time taken to complete a backup. Sometimes it seems to hang for minutes with no reasons at all and folder synchronization occurs only after all files are backed up (instead folder sync should have a separated queue independent from other backup operations and synchronization should occurs frequently... for example every 5 minutes or less, independently from the frequency of normal backup operations)

• Plesk + Apache + PHP (FastCGI): Constant session permissions problems, conflicts between HTTP / HTTPS

  I've just moved a collection of sites over to a brand-new server, running Apache 2.2.3, PHP 5.3, and Plesk 10.1.1. I am having problems with file permissions on PHP sessions, which are being stored in /var/lib/php/session. I originally set the permissions like so for this folder: drwxrwx--- 2 apache psacln 8192 Mar 22 23:25 session This worked fine, for HTTP sessions. Files were being saved in that folder with these permissions: -rw------- 1 client1 psacln 0 Mar 22 23:24 sess_507... -rw------- 1 client2 psacln 0 Mar 22 23:25 sess_8o1... The problem, however, is that PHP scripts accessed via HTTPS do not seem to be run by the same client1 or client2 user. I deleted files in the session directory and accessed a login page via HTTPS to see how sessions were being saved when initiated via this protocol: -rw------- 1 apache apache 0 Mar 22 23:25 sess_507... So, for whatever reason, sessions initiated by clients browsing with HTTPS were being saved by apache:apache, while sessions from HTTP clients were saved with someclient:psacln. What I'd like to ask: How can I avoid this problem with session permissions? When sessions are created via unencrypted HTTP and a client visits an HTTPS portion of the site, permission errors are shown, since apache:apache tries to access the session save created by someclient:psacln. The converse is also true. Can I change the user which runs the Apache HTTPS server, via Plesk or the command line? If not, can I have PHP sessions save with rw-rw---- permissions, and then add apache to the psacln group? Any other suggestions on how to fix this issue?
