• Safari 4.0.5 will not play any HTML5 (H.264) video

  The html5test.com tells me that my browser does not support the <video> element, and when I try example page, I get the fallback message, usually "Your browser does not support HTML5 video." I know this should work in Safari. I am on Windows 7, 64-bit (running 32-bit Safari). Video works in Safari for everyone else in the office. (Windows 7 setup exactly like mine, Vista, OSX.) I have tries uninstalling, deleting all user preferences, and reinstalling. Anything else I should try?

• Can I use my Belkin router as a repeater?

  I've got a brand new, unopened Belkin N600 DB router (yay 50% off sale), and I can't seem to figure out if I can use it as a repeater. As far as I can tell, it doesn't support DD-WRT or Tomato, but I'm wondering if there may be some way to rig it up to repeat Wifi. Also, I really need to know before I open it, because, being a bit tight on money at the moment, I'll probably sell it if I can't use it as a repeater. Finally, two caveats: I can't use the other wireless router for anything other than broadcasting straight from the modem (parents are paranoid about anything technological). I can't run ethernet to the second router due to the layout of the house. Thanks so much for the help everyone--if I'm being vague, tell me! EDIT: Also, the manual here is pretty useless on this topic as far as I can tell.

• why Apache with ssl but back end weblogic without ssl works?

      Hello everyone. my question is very simple . The link below is a picture about my architecture. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BxSXbpgYIZVOR212RVk4ZDN1Sm8.      The pic above shows the architecture right now and it works correctly ! which means I could visit apache with url https//apchehost:8080, could not visit the web app with https served by weblogic but I could visit these app with https served by Apache(Apache is proxy server).      My question is why the Apache is configured with ssl but weblogic without ssl works ? I think weblogic should also configured with ssl . If this works , what about security level ? Is the ssl really works if only Apache configured with ssl but Weblogic without it ? • Why do people tell me not to use VLANs for security?

  Hi Everyone, As per title, why do people tell me not to use VLANs for security purposes? I have a network, where a have a couple of VLANS. There is a firewall between the 2 VLANs. I am using HP Procurve switches and have made sure that switch-to-switch links accept tagged frames only and that host ports don't accept tagged frames (They are not "VLAN Aware"). I've also made sure that the native VLAN (PVID) of the trunk links are not the same as either of the 2 host VLANs. I've also enabled "Ingress Filtering". Furthermore, I've made sure that host ports are only members of a single VLAN, which is the same as the PVID of the respective port. The only ports which are members of multiple VLANs are the trunk ports. Can someone please explain to me why the above isn't secure? I believe I've addressed the double tagging issue.. Thanks

  Hello everyone, I am having a ID10T error LOL,. First I am using window server 2003 r2 edition. I installed on a domian controller print managment. So this is where all 48 printers I have are installed. I just got a new printer. I gave it an IP for the machine and when I head into the server room i tried to add it to the server. I can print a test page, when I am logged on to the print server, but on my client computer when he goes to add a printer in window xp pro the printer isn't listed in add print for network. What did I do wrong?

• Best way to restrict FTP access to a single directory?

  I have a VPS running Ubuntu 10.04, and I'd like to give someone SFTP access to a single directory, but prevent them from seeing anything else on the system. What's the best way to pull this off? I considered removing "everyone" permissions from everything on the system, but that seems like a really blunt tool for this problem (and one that'll cause other issues) - I'm hoping there's a better option here. Edit: I appreciate the answers! (And I learned a bunch reading/researching through them). • Do you lose everything when you have a hard disk failure in a multi-hard disk LVM that does NOT use RAID?

  I'm debating about using LVM for a media/file server because I would like to combine multiple physical hard disks into one volume. I do not wish to use any RAID in my LVM so my question is: If one of the multiple hard disks in my volume were to go down would I lose all my data or would I just lose the data that was stored on that individual disk? Also, if I were to just lose the data on the individual disk, would it be as simple as replacing that disk and restoring what was on it from a backup to recover? Thanks everyone.

You're forcing everyone to be impersonated by the nobody account, so that account will need file-level permissions on that share directory. • Replace Certificate using Plesk 11

  I am not an admin, but a programmer. But how it is, if you're the only guy who knows about computers, everyone shoves those tasks to you. A certificate of a domain recently expired. The domains are managed using Plesk 11, on a Linux system, Apache2.2. I was given a new certificate from the host, and it is one single .pem file. However, Plesk asks me for a .crt file, a private key and some CA file. I have neither, only this single .pem file the host claims to be the certificate. Since I myself never did anything with SSL certificates, I would really appreciate if anyone can tell me what to do with this file and how to properly add a new one so the old one can be removed.

• CPU/RAM usage log over a period of time to file on CentOS

  Hi everyone Im looking for an app pr line of code that could let me observe a process, save the info in a number of variable and then put the gathered info on a file. Ive been trying with variations of top but no luck. I am running several CentOS virtual servers, VM is 2gb ram 2 processor. Maybe a script that works over a specified amount of time while writing lines with the info on a text file so at the end i can have a sort of table with the data. The thing is Im going to stress test the server and I would like to have the data to make some statistics. Any comments and suggestions are most welcome.

• How does dropbox version/upload large files?

  Hey everyone, I have a free dropbox account (2GB), and I was wondering how the versioning of large files works. I have a full backup of all my webfiles that sites @ just over 1GB. After the initial upload of 1GB, everytime it syncs will dropbox figure out the delta of the file, or will it have to upload the entire thing again to version it? It would be cool to always have an up to date version of a large file, but I dont want to kill my bandwidth uploading 1GB everytime. Is this possible? Thanks,

• Mount cifs share anonymously

  I have a Windows 2003 Server sharing out a few folders as read-only to "Everyone". The server is a domain member, so I'm not able to connect to the share on computers that aren't on the domain without passing some form of credentials. I have a linux box that I want to mount the share on at startup, so I want to put the share mountpoint in fstab. I have this setup by specifying a credentials file that is only readable by root, but I would rather either not use a credentials file or specify some guest/anonymous user. Can I do that, & if so, how?

• Shared folder on mac: mounted on ubuntu but not writable

  I've got a mac (called 'maxw-hackbook') with a folder (called 'work') which i've shared, making it "read & write" by me, "staff" and everyone. I've then mounted it to a folder on my ubuntu laptop, as follows: #on ubuntu laptop $ smbtree -s WORKGROUP \\MAXW-HACKBOOK maxw-hackbook \\MAXW-HACKBOOK\IPC$ IPC Service (maxw-hackbook) \\MAXW-HACKBOOK\work work $ sudo smbmount //MAX-HACKBOOK/work/ /mnt/hackbook-work -o ip=192.168.1.228,username=Max,password=passwordonmacbook,w This has successfully mounted the "work" folder on the macbook to the /mnt/hackbook-work folder in ubuntu. But, it's read-only, even though i've set the shared folder (on the mac) to be "read and write" by everybody. I need to have write access to that folder on the mac. • Import EML emails into Outlook 2010 64-bit

  Evening everyone. I'm helping setup a small office network, where a number of old PC's are being replaced with new ones with a 64-bit copy of Outlook 2010. The old emails were stored in Windows Live Email, and were exported as .eml files (since we were replacing the machines). All the support I can find indicates that .eml files could simply be dragged-and-dropped into a folder in Outlook 2010, and it will import them correctly. However, it seems this is not the case in the 64-bit versioin, where dropping in .eml files results in a new message being created with these files as attachments. We can re-download the most of the emails off the server if need be, but there were user folders which were not on the server which we were hoping to import. Any advice would be fantastic at this point!

  Hi everyone. I'm looking for a simple yet effective software to watermark a lot of photos in batch. I have to apply a transparent png watermark image on 400 photos. The program have to place the watermark at a custom position relative to the bottom right corner of every picture. I would have done this in photoshop, but the scriptable action doesn't allow me to do conditionnal placing if the photo is portrait or landscape. I'm looking for a free lightweigh program. • How to combine with openvpn, dynamic-ip?

  Dear everyone, I am currently using openvpn to surf online to bypass censorship. Let me show you the initial scenario: before openvpn is turned on: IP: 1.2.3.4 (hypothetical, checked by visiting whatismyip.com/) after openvpn is turned on IP: 10.2.3.4 (this is also checked with whatismyip.com/, I assume this is where the vpn's exit point's IP ) Situation: Once I enable openvpn, I can still ssh into this computer by sshing into 1.2.3.4, even though visiting whatismyip.com/ says it's 10.2.3.4. However, I am on dynamic IP, I run a website, and am using tools (inadyn in particular) which pings the freedns.afraid.org (my dns server) and updates my ip. The messed up part is when inadyn does so, my dns changes the ip to 10.2.3.4, which is presumably the exit point of my vpn. How do I get around this? (Note that sshing into 1.2.3.4 STILL works).

  I have set up a second drive on Ubuntu Server. The directory displays correctly but Windows users cannot write or create files on the directory. I have Samba set up so Windows can access the drives. here is the last bit of my /etc/samba/smb.conf [personeel] path = /media/windows browsable = yes guest ok = yes writable = yes read only = no create mask = 0775 directory mask = 0775 I want the directory to be shared with writable permissions to everyone who can access the Ubuntu Server. I have tried sudo chmod but to no success. Any help would be appreciated

• Dell Precision 670 no booting

  Our dell running xp did not boot one day and was making a beep code I had a hard time finding on the internet. It was one of the RAM sticks so i replaced it. Before that i removed the motherboard battery to see if there was a problem with the battery. Now at start up it tells me that No Logical Drives Found and then BIOS not installed!. I have read over alot of post here and other places but everyone is talking about installation of the OS. I just want it to start with what it had. Please help.

• Windows Home Server restore causes computer to be removed from the domain?

  I restored my Dell M4400 that is a company laptop, and now I get an error when I try to log on and am connected to our corporate network, which says that the domain controller could not be found or that the computer is not part of the domain. Everyone else can log on, so it seems my computer is no longer part of the domain, even though it thinks it is per the settings. One thing of note: my computer crashed on 1/14/10, but I restored from a backup that was made on 12/20/09. So I am not sure if that made a difference? Also, I tried running "gpupdate" to update my group policy, but that did not seem to help. Any ideas? Seems like a bit of a flaw in the backup system for computers that are part of a domain. I guess I wanted to hear from someone with more knowledge about how a computer is recognized as part of a domain to know if this should be expected when doing a restore or if I should file a trouble ticket.

• Simple Central Storage for HA mail server

  Hi Everyone, I will have 2 Postfix servers. One will be a backup of the other. What is the easiest method to provide central storage to both of these boxes? My infrastructure is very simple: Just a lot of Xen hosts, so there is no SAN or anything. Each Xen host does have RAID1 though. I don't mind mounting NFS shares on each of those mail servers, as long as the NFS server wasn't a single point of failure. Is there such a thing as redundant NFS?   I'm wanting to script the "Turn Windows Features On of Off" functionality for my development group so that we'll have a means of ensuring that everyone is running on the same configurations. We are running Windows 7. Is this possible without DISM.exe? It doesn't necessarily have to be scripting. Windows Features is just one of serveral configurations that developers are responsible for modifying personally. It would also be nice to ensure (for example) that IIS and certain services are configured properly on a given developer's machine. If there's a larger scale tool that could give us this functionality, I would be interested in that too.

In particular things I need/want (most important first) are: A server daemon that runs on Linux without kernel modules Clients work from behind NATs and Firewalls. Free/FOSS Support for PPTP, L2TP or L2TP/IPSec PSK/CRT A architecture that makes all accesses equal: if the server is to have access to the VPN, then it must be a client. Just like everyone else. Minimal configuration/state. The first 3 are must haves and the last is a nice to have. The rest I could live without, but then again I could also live with nothing.

• facebook keeps freezing Chrome and Windows

  Hi, everyone. I am a Windows 7 and Chrome user. Lately (since past few months) my Chrome has been freezing, taking down whole operating system with it, leaving resetting the computer the only choice. Recently I discovered that the issue was with facebook tabs, and when I close those tabs (if it's not too late!), I can save Chrome and Windows from a complete crash. This is very annoying. Is there a solution for this problem? Maybe uninstalling/reinstalling some plugins? Please help. Thanks.   Hello everyone, first of all, I'm not sure where this question should go. So I've looked around and found the 'hardware' tag used in superuser.com please forgive me if I'm posting this on the wrong site. I'm new to the hardware part of computers. I've been looking around for a few months and now is the time to make my choice. I want to build my own computer and I think I got all the items I need. I want to know if the case and the motherboard I've chosen are compatible or if you could tell me how to check if they're compatible I want to know if they fit. Here's the motherboard/processor/memory package And this* is the case I'd like to fit it in. I'm sure that all the other stuff I might need I have with me already.
