• Java regex return after first match

  hi how do i return after the first match of regular expression? (does the Matcher.find() method do that? ) say I have a string "abcdefgeee". I want to ask the regex engine stop finding immediately after it finds the first match of "e" for example. I am writing a method to return true/false if the pattern is found and i don't want to find the whole string for "e". (I am looking for a regex solution ) thanks

  Hi there, Is there a way to retrieve tables, including alias tables, and columns, including alias columns, from an Apache Torque Criteria object reliably? I understand that there is methods like: getSelectedColumns, getAsColumns(), getJoins(), etc., but for examples, getJoins() will just return a list of joined tables strings in free text, where one has to use regular expression to extract the needed joined table information out of it.   Hi, I'm working on a regular expression that will only return true when a date string is in a format something like 'ddd, dd mmm yy'. Valid matches would be values like "Sun, 20 Jun 10" or "Mon, 21 Jun 10" but not "Sunday, 20 Jun 10" or "20 Jun 10". This will be used with mb_ereg in PHP. Then the counter function should return 4. Does VBA contain any built-in functions for this, or does someone have an example of a regular expression that could calculate this?

  I was performing a code review for a colleague and he had a regular expression that looked like this: if ($value =~ /^\d\d\d\d$/) { #do stuff } I told him he should change it to: if ($value =~ /^\d{4}$/) { #do stuff } To which he replied that he preferred the first for readability (I find the second more readable, but that's a religious debate I'll save for another day). My question: is there an actual benefit to one over the other?
