• NFS Server in Java

  I search an implementation of a network (or distributed) file system like NFS in Java. The goal is to extend it and do some research stuff with it. On the web I found some implementation e.g. DJ NFS, but the open question is how mature and fast they are. Can anyone purpose a good starting point, has anyone experience with such things? P.S. I know Hadoop DFS and I used it for some projects, but Hadoop is not a good fit for the things I want to do here. --EDIT-- Hadoop is really focused on highly scalable, high throughput computing without the possibilities to overwrite parts of a file and so an. The goal is you could use the filesystem e.g. for user home directories. --EDIT-- More Details: The idea is to modify such a implementation so that the files are not stored directly on a local filesystem, but to apply data de-duplication.

• Tag a process with a string

  Hi guys, I am trying to reproduce Process Exporer's feature to tag a process running on the current machine with a Comment (Please see the Comment section in the Process properties in Process Explorer). I couldn't find any way to do it with managed code, had a try with wmic utility but I wasn't able to find a way to set a property to an existing process. Also, searching the web returns some pretty vague responses since all the search terms are so general.. If anybody has at least a hint I will appreciate it. Alex. P.S I am using C# for the project but I am opened to use unmanaged code if that's what it takes :)

• How to allow multiple users to manage application running on server?

  I'm not sure if the title makes sense. Hard question to ask. I have an application running on a server under my network account, and it's scheduled to run daily. I can remote in with my user credentials and check on the application. What if I want more than one person to be able to remote in and check it? I can create a new account on the server, but it wouldn't have network rights and the application needs access to network folders. What would be the best approach? Thanks! :-) P.S. Feel free to edit the tags. I can't figure out what to pick.

  im sure you guys must have seen the shift happens video series. here's a link to them : http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shift+happens&search_type=&aq=f also, the recent hungry beast video about google, which can be found here: (SO doesnt allow new users more than one hyperlink, so please search on youtube for this one) what i'd like to ask you guys is this: is there a program that enables such videos to be made quickly or is it really just the creative genius of the respective authors? i think vidoes like these are extremely useful when you want to make an impact and would find many uses for such a program in my line of work. im hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. ps. i DO know of animoto, so please dont suggest that :P the problem with animoto is that it doesnt allow text manipulation like these videos. to be fair, that is a great product in itself, but im sure if you take a look, you'll see the difference that im talking abuot.

  I have 2 mysql tables : Question with the following columns : id, question, nranswers Nranswers must be a number from 1 to 5 And the other table is Answers with the following columns: userid, answer . Now the problem is that I want to get the replies for each answer for one question(id 22 let's say) . P.S. If the nranswers is 3, the result should look like this: (the right number means how many times the reply number was chosen) 1 - 2 2 - 8 3 - 7 If the nranswers is 5, the result should look like this: 1 - 3 2 - 8 3 - 14 4 - 19 5 - 8 Please help me out with the query, atm he's not counting the answers that weren't chosen, only the ones that were chosen at least one time.

  After spending most of my waking time on Stack Overflow, for better or for worse, I've come to notice how 99% of the C++ questions are answered with "use boost::wealreadysolvedyourproblem", but there must definitely be a few areas Boost doesn't cover, but would be better if it did. So what features is Boost missing? I'll start by saying: boost::sql (although SOCI should try to become a legal part of boost) boost::json (although TinyJSON should try to become a legal part of boost) boost::audio (no idea about a good boost-like C++ library) PS: The purpose is to compile a reasonable list, and hopefully Boost-like solutions out there that aren't yet a part of Boost, so no silly stuff like boost::turkey please.

Who could help me so it also strips /** and the final slash /? Any help would be greatly appreciated! P.S: If, for instance, the commentlbock would contain something like /** * @foo Here's some slashes for ya: / and \ */ Then obviously the slashes after @foo may not be stripped. The reult would have to be: @foo Here's some slashes for ya: / and \ I hope there's a regex guru out there :-)

• Where do you include FirePHP in Wordpress?

  I'm using require_once() in header.php to include the FirePHP library. In the page.php I'm doing the usual... $firephp = FirePHP::getInstance(true); $firephp->log($categories); Getting these errors.. 'Headers already sent....' and Cannot send log data to FirePHP. You must have Output Buffering enabled via ob_start() or output_buffering ini directive... I figured the using require_once in the template's header.php (above all HTML output) would be safe (pre header output). Guess this is not the case. Anyone have experience with this? (P.S. I tried the WP FirePHP plugin, wasn't working right)

• Do i *have* to use ObservableCollection in Silverlight WCF client?

  When accessing Silverlight in WCF you get proxies generated with ObservableCollection Thats fine when you're databinding, but a little clumsy when you're just calling a method. For instance the following service method : [OperationContract] public SearchOrdersMsgOut SearchOrders(ShippingStatusType[] shippingStatuses, string[] orderId) { } gets generated with ObservableCollection. What! They're just parameters. Why would I ever want to 'observe' them? I'm fine if I have to do this - but it seems like there should be a way to force simple array structures when I know I'm never databinding - especially on input messages. I'd much rather do this : searchCriteria.PaymentStatus = new [] { PaymentStatusType.PaymentFailed, PaymentStatusType.Unpaid }; than this : searchCriteria.PaymentStatus = new ObservableCollection<PaymentStatusType> { PaymentStatusType.PaymentFailed, PaymentStatusType.Unpaid }; Is there a way? PS. I do actually use a SearchCriteria object for my search criteria - but I simplified for this example wondering if parameters were handled differently.

• Playing around with Eclipse features - Project files are now hidden?

  I don't even remember how, but somehow I managed to make all of my project's source files hidden in Eclipse's Package and Project Explorer panels. Go figure. 'Show Filtered Children (alt+click)' temporarily reveals the files, and only in Package Explorer can I double-click to reopen them from this view. They go back into hiding after I select another item, though. Plus, now I'm getting other annoyances, such as all of the folded non-hidden trees altogether expanding when I click on any item, and the entire file folder tree of my project now being shown in these panels (including my .svn subversion folders... which shouldn't be any of Eclipse's business, presently). Long story short, my Package/Project Explorers' just blew up on me, and I want to know how to fix this. Thanks in advance. P.S. What's a good guide I can use to learn my way around this silly contraption, anyway?

• precompile App_LocalResources in Visual Studio

  My web-application project (not "web-site" project) is translated to 15 different languages using the ASP.NET's built-in resource engine (I have tons of *.aspx.resx file in the "App_LocalREsources" folder). All these resources are precompiled by ASP.NET when I first launch the application and it takes a LOT of time. A LOT. 5-10 minutes. I have to wait 5-10 minutes every time I make soe tiny change to my code to see how it works. Is there any way to compile these resource in Visual Studio? Changing the "Build Action" for all these resx-files to "Embedded resource" does not work :( (or I'm doing it wrong?) PS. I know I can write a batch file that will launch aspnet_compiler.exe and manually compile the app with all the resources, but thats a "hack". I need a documented "Visual Studio"-way to achieve this. Cause I have a setup-project for this app in the same solution, that picks up the "project output" of this web-app (and it won't pick-up any manually precompiled files I made)

  i have this function where basically add and remove the disabled attribute form a input field: $(bla).click(function(){ if (something) { console.log($target.prev("input")) // gives out the right object $target.toggleClass("open").prev("input").attr("disabled", "disabled"); }else{ $target.toggleClass("open").prev("input").removeAttr("disabled"); //this works } }) the removeAttr works fine but when i need to add the disabled again it does just nothing. My console.log is triggering (and giving me back the right input field) so I'm sure my that my if statement works. But if i inspect the DOM with firebug the disabled attribute does not appear. can someone help me? PS: please don't focus on the function or the if statement itself, works fine its just that attr that dies not work for disabled...

• Intersecting boundaries with lucene

  I'm using Lucene, and I'm trying to find a way to index and retrieve documents that have a ranged property. For example I have: Document 1: Price:[30 TO 50] Document 2: Price:[45 TO 60] Document 3: Price:[60 TO 70] And I would like to search for all the documents whose ranges intersect a specific interval, in the above example, if I search for Price in [55 TO 65] I should get Document 2 and Document 3 as results. I don't think NumericRangeQueries alone would do the trick, I need to work on the index with something similar to R-trees, but are they implemented in Lucene? Also, I suppose that what I need should be a subclass of MultiTermQuery, because the query Price in [55 TO 65] has two boundaries, but I don't see anything suitable among MultiTermQuery's subclasses. Any help is appreciated, thanks, Silvio P.S. I'm using Lucene 2.9.0, but I can update to the latest release if needed.

• jQuery - Add click event to Div and go to first link found

  Hi guys, I think I've been too much time looking at this function and just got stuck trying to figure out the nice clean way to do it. It's a jQuery function that adds a click event to any div with a click CSS class found in the page and when clicked it redirects the user to the first link found in the div. function clickabledivs() { $('.click').each( function (intIndex) { $(this).bind("click", function(){ window.location = $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ).attr('href'); }); } ); } The code simply works although I'm pretty sure there is a fairly better way to accomplish it, specially the selector I am using: $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ) looks too long and slow. • Does Objective-C have a Standard Library?

  Most somewhat modern programming languages have a standard library? It is my impression is that there isn't a decent sized standard library for Obj-C , rather that it relies mostly/all on Cocoa and that (plus people not wanting to use GNUstep) is why Obj-C is only used on macs)? Is this true/to what extent? Are there any standard obj-c collections? (note I haven't done any Obj-C programming and am not to likely to try it in the near future, I'm just curious). P.S. are there a any decent non-Cocoa/Gnustep Libraries? are they non-apple, are they open source, well documented?

When I created a WPF application, i am seeing two guids in here. {60dc8134-eba5-43b8-bcc9-bb4bc16c2548};{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC} Does these represent WPF and Windows type of applications? If I create my own project type (.myproj) that has .xaml and .cs files, what should I fill in this ProjectTypeGuids tags? Should I also need to fill the ProjectType tag? • php POST and non-english language chars passes empty

  I'm trying to program a Hebrew site with a search option. (old site and the charset of this site is windows-1255) I am using php 5.2 with Apache 2.2, on a Debian 5 (Lenny) with appropriate code pages enabled. I am using _POST to pass arguments to a script. If I pass English word to the script everything works, but when I use Hebrew nothing is passed through the POST function. When I use ECHO to show _POST, the variable is empty. What might be the problem? P.S. this is old site that worked fine on PHP 4 with debian 4, and the problem arised only after we upgrade to PHP5+debian5.

Let's suppose I have the following C# code: enum MyEnum { Value1, Value2 } public void test() { method(0); // this calls method(MyEnum) method(1); // this calls method(object) } public void method(object o) { } public void method(MyEnum e) { } Note that I know how to make it work but I would like to know why for one value of int (0) it calls one method and for another (1) it calls another. It sounds awkward since both values have the same type (int) but they are "linked" for different methods. Ps.: This is my first question here, i'm sorry if I made something wrong. =P

• GlassFish Starting Up Java SE Client - No Initial Context Exception

  Hi I have developed a java se client that calls some session beans on a glassfish server. I connect to the bean remote interface like this. context = new InitialContext(); em = (ICrudService) context.lookup("java:global/BackITServer/CrudServiceImpl"); This works fine from inside eclipse (gf-client on build path). When I export my project as a runnable jar and call it on the console with java -jar BackItClient.jar I get a NoInitialContextException. MMMM. I would very much appreciate some help. • How to re-use a thread in Java ?

  I am a building a console Sudoku Solver where the main objective is raw speed. I now have a ManagerThread that starts WorkerThreads to compute the neibhbors of each cell. So one WorkerThread is started for each cell right now. How can I re-use an existing thread that has completed its work? The Thread Pool Pattern seems to be the solution, but I don't understand what to do to prevent the thread from dying once its job has been completed. ps : I do not expect to gain much performance for this particular task, just want to experiment how multi-threading works before applying it to the more complex parts of the code. Will it create any problem if i remove the method (explicit implementation of interface) that i have marked "redundant" above? PS: I understand that explicit implementation of interface is very important, and it can be used when we need to give access to a method at interface level only, and to use two interface with same signature of method.

  Hi Guys, I am using this code to get the tags in my wordpress posts for a theme `<?php $posttags = get_the_tags(); if ($posttags) { foreach ($posttags as $tag) { $tagnames[count($tagnames)] = $tag->name; } $comma_separated_tagnames = implode(", ", $tagnames); print_r($comma_separated_tagnames); } ?>` The PROBLEM is that it is returning tags for "all posts" not just individual posts, and I think the problem is that if a post DOESNT have tags - it just inserts tags anyway. Can anyone help modify this so: It return tags only for a post - not all tags If there are no tags for a post, dont return anything ? • Debugger does not break when debugging PowerShell console

  I'm developing a binary PowerShell module. I have a post build event that copies that module into the 'modules' directory in my "Documents\WindowsPowerShell" folder. I then have the project set to launch PowerShell.exe. My module is loaded via Import-Module and off I go. The problem is my break points are never hit and the debugger does not break on exceptions. If I run PowerShell outside of Visual Studio and then attach the debugger to the process I can break just fine. The other strange this is that my break points are not empty. Typically if different source versions are loaded they will be. I'm running Visual Studio 2010 on a Win 7 box. My module is currently targeting .NET 3.5. I've tried running both the x64 and x86 versions of PS with no luck.
