  Good day everyone! I have only Ubuntu/Debian machines in my office. I've registered for Windows Azure platform and try to enter their management portal (https://windows.azure.com/default.aspx), but it requires Microsoft Silverlight. I've tried installing latest Moonlight plugin availabing for Ubuntu 11.04, but without any success - after login I see blank page and nothing more (tried both firefox 7.0.1 and chromium-14). Does anyone know how to enter Microsoft Azure management portal from Ubuntu 11.04 or any other linux? Thank you, Zaar

• 2D management game [on hold]

  Very newbie question but I have a game idea in mind. It will be 2d and data centric, like football manager. However I am struggling to find a platform that would suit. I am an experienced line of business developer so am happy to write code, but I would like a platform that does some of the leg work for me so was avoiding OpenGL. I would also like to be able deploy to iOS, android, windows and OS X. What are the options? To be more clear, the game is not a normal platform or shooter type game, so game maker is likely to be way too basic and unity seems a little over the top (though I am not sure if the GUI options would fit?). The majority of the game is more like business screens just displaying data and having buttons to click. Are there options for this type of game (May help to look at football manager)?

  I'm about to develop a web site for a new client. It's not going to be very intense, but one requirement is that, if possible, the client wants to be able to manage the photo gallery themselves. Since they are not technically savvied at all, I was wondering what utilities exist that provide a GUI for users to log in to manage photos. Can anyone make a recontamination? I haven't purchased the web hosting yet, so if your answer requires a specific type of host server don't worry, I am open to options.

  I have lost all email messages and folders in my Thunderbird program. Where can I look for them? The messages were organized in folders for several years. My system is Windows XP. I have looked in the Thunderbird Profiles default profile folder. I can see Inbox and Trash but none of the other folders I have set up are visible. I cannot directly open Inbox or Trash so I don't know if my lost messages are in these folders. Others in the Community Forum seem to have the same problem but no one has answered them or me. However I have a load balancing router that has a second line attached to it - unfortunatly the second line has a dynamic external IP. I need to therefore set up a rule in the router to always send data from Management studio on the first line - but I need to know the port numbers. Can you advise?

• How to prevent a Gtk.SourceView from grabbing the URI of a file

  I'm making a text editor using GTK3 in Vala. I need to drag a file and, when I drop it into the application window, the application opens that file. I'm using a Gtk.Notebook that contains the Gtk.SourceView's. It works when I drop a file into an empty Gtk.Notebook, but when there is at least one Gtk.SourceView's appended on it, the SourceView grab the URI of the file, shows it and the window can't handle the opening of the file. In this case, what can I do to prevent a Gtk.SourceView from grabbing the uri of a file when I drop a file into a Gtk.SourceView. PS: I tried to use the drag_dest_unset() inside the SourceView derived class. It worked, the SourceView didn't grab the URI and the window could open the file, but the application showed a message like this, in runtime: Gtk-WARNING **: Can't set a target list on a widget until you've called gtk_drag_dest_set() to make the widget into a drag destination

If I where to build a distro with no package management system what possibilities would I have for maintaining the program is up to date.   Let's say I have a directory with 2 files, both are identical and quite large (e.g. 2GB ea.) I want to rsync that directory to a remote host. As I understand it (and I could be wrong), rsync calculates checksums of files. Surely if it sees 2 files with the same checksum it can just copy the first file, then do a local copy on the remote host for the 2nd file? That would make it faster, no? On a similar note, doesn't rsync hash all the remote files before copying? If it saw a different file with the same hash as a file that was to transfered, it could do a local copy on the remote host. Does rsync support this sort of thing? Is there some way to turn it on? Is there a tool similar to rsync that will do this sort of 'hash based' local copies?

  I have been using Windows for a while, and with it there is a feature when you want to upload a photo (for example) to a website, you click on the "Choose File" in Chrome to upload a photo, a "File Explorer" opens, and instead of selecting a file from the hard drive you can paste a URL into the "File Explorer" and press open and it will download the file from the web to your temporary files, and use it to be uploaded.
