• Does gwibber in Maverick work with the "me menu?"

  Currently if I try to post from the me menu, it just keeps the text I have entered. Is this a known bug? Or do I have to downgrade gwibber? I'm using the ppa version of gwibber. Is it possible for this version to work with the memenu? UPDATE: I still have not gotten an answer as such :( - so I'm updating the question. If I try to post from the me menu the text is grayed out, and it doesn't send my post when I hit enter.

• Login screen restarts while entering password

  I am having a problem that only occurred after installing the fglrx proprietary driver through the additional drivers app. The exact same issue is described in this question, however it's closed. Must login twice before entering Unity; first login screen has graphical anomalies When I boot up my computer, once I get to lightdm login screen I will start typing my password, and upon the entering of two of my password characters "n2" the screen will start displaying some corruption in the very top edge of the screen, then after I hit the number 2, lightdm seems to crash and it will restart and everything is fine, I can login from that point. So the issue is, every time I reboot, I have to login once, allow lightdm to crash and restart, then login as normal. The issue did not occur prior to installing fglrx, and has happened through several reinstalls.

• Clever DIY Display Showcases Game Consoles While Concealing Cables

  How do you display all your vintage game consoles while keeping them in a clutter free and ready-to-play state? This wall-mounted display does a great job showing off the retro gear while keeping everything tidy. Courteys of German tinker and gamer Holger, the design of the display is deceptively simple. The wall mount is a basic 2×4 frame wrapped in black roofing batten (similar to the lightweight weed-fabric used in gardens). Screw-in mounts for the LACK shelves are positioned every foot or so going up the frame and a small slit in the fabric allows for hidden routing of the cables. • Box2D Static-Dynamic body joint eliminates collisions

  I have a static body A, and a dynamic body B, and a dynamic body C. A is filtered to not collide with anything, B and C collide with each other. I wish to create a joint between B and A. When I create a joint (ex. revolute), B no longer collides with C - C passes through it as if it does not exist. What am I doing wrong? How can adding a joint prevent a body from colliding with another body it used to? EDIT: I want to join B with A, and have B collide with C, but not A collide with C. In realistic terms, I'm trying to create a revolute joint between a wheel (B) and a wall (A), and have a box (C) hit the wheel and the wheel would then rotate.   How do I realize a UA string block by regular expression in the config files of my Apache webserver? For example: if I would like to block out all bots from Apache on my debian server, that have the regular expression /\b\w+[Bb]ot\b/ or /Spider/ in their user-agent. Those bots should not be able to see any page on my server and they should not appear neither in the accesslogs nor in the errorlogs. http://global-security.blogspot.de/2009/06/how-to-block-robots-before-they-hit.html supposes to uses mod_security for that, but isn't there a simple directive for http.conf?

• SEO consequences for merging country sites in a .com

  I am in the process of refactoring a number of rental portals I've built for a company with locations in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Instead of the current setting of each country site running under its own domain name: www.companyname.de www.companyname.ch www.companyname.at I would love to merge them all in this way: www.companyname.com/de www.companyname.com/ch www.companyname.com/at with the country TLDs doing a 301 redirect to the respective .com address. However, I have been repeatedly told not to do this due to likely problems with SEO - the business is very SEO dependent, and being a rental chain, needs to be strong in local results. So the question is: Is there an unavoidable hit in Search Engine Optimization when redirecting to a central .com domain? What measures can be taken to soften the blow? What comes to my mind is explicitly specifying a lang attribute in the html tag. Are there any other ways to specifically point out geographical location for sub-directories?

• Using your own gameloop logic on iphone?

  I'm currently working on moving some android-ndk code to the iphone and have hit a wall. I'm new to iphone development, and from looking at some samples it seems that the main loop is handled for you and all you've got to do is override the render method on the view to handle the rendering and add a selector to handle the update methods. The render method itself lookslike it's attached to the windows refresh. But in android I've got my own game loop that controls the rendering and updates using c++ time.h. is it possible to implement the same here bypassing apple's loop? I'd really like the keep the structures of the code similar. Thanks!

• keybinding issues with xmodmap across synergy

  I've got two systems I use across Synergy. On the main one I have a normal keyboard that I swap caps lock and ctrl for. So I do: xmodmap -e 'keycode 66 = Control_L' xmodmap -e 'clear lock' xmodmap -e 'add Control = Control_L' Where keycode 66 is my caps lock key. The trouble is that I can't get this key to act as a control key on the other machine I connect to with synergy. The strange thing is that if I plug a keyboard into the machine, and run xev, the control key there is keycode 37. When I then hit my modified control key (keycode 66 on the master) it's registering as keycode 37 on the remote machine. So according to xev, it should be picking it up as a control keypress. Anyone have any hints on if Synergy is doing something overly helpful for me?

• OS-Prober not recognized!

  So due to some shenanigans with trying to get rid of all traces of grub-customizer, I accidentally hit "delete" an extra time while in a root nautilus, and deleted my os-prober script in /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober. So I was about to freak out and come here without doing anything when I realized that everything should be beack if I ran sudo apt-get purge os-prober and then sudo apt-get install os-prober. No dice! It was still gone! So I ran the same purge/reinstall thing on grub2. Nope! I have copied over another 30_os-prober from another Ubuntu install (same version and architecture), and it works when run in terminal by typing sudo os-prober, but it isn't picked up when running sudo update-grub. Help!

• Square Reader Modified to Record Off Old Reel-to-Reel Tape [Video]

  The Square Reader is a tiny magnetic credit card reader that has taken the mobile payment industry by storm. This clever hack dumps the credit card reading in favor of snagging the audio from old music reels. Evan Long was curious about whether the through-the-headphones interface of the Square Reader could be used to read audio data off old magnetic recordings. With a very small modification (he had to bend a metal tab inside the reader to allow the audio tape to slide through more easily) he was able to listen to and record audio off old reels. Was anyone able to readout the temp-sensor of a SSD with hddtemp?
