  Introduction Following my last post, I decided to publish the whole set of expression builders that I use with SharePoint. For all who don’t know about expression builders, they allow us to employ a declarative approach, so that we don’t have to write code for “gluing” things together, like getting a value from the query string, the page’s underlying SPListItem or the current SPContext and assigning it to a control’s property. These expression builders are for some quite common scenarios, I use them quite often, and I hope you find them useful as well. SPContextExpression This expression builder allows us to specify an expression to be processed on the SPContext.Current property object. • iPhone Simulator 3.x not listed after upgrading to XCode 3.2.3 Beta4 with OS 4.0

  I've been having some problems, & since you guys are the smartest devs I thought I'd just ask you. When I last installed Xcode 3.2.3 Beta 2 (OS 4.0 support), it had all the iPhone Device & Simulator 3.x. Now, updated to Xcode 3.2.3 Beta 4 (OS 4.0 support), it no longer lists 3.x SDKs for either simulator or device in XCode. When I run an app that was written for 3.1.2, the current SDK is listed as "base SDK missing" I'm aware that 3.2.3 changes the BASE SDK to 4.0, but how come none of the 3.x devices are available either? When I go to: /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs The only two files available are: iPhoneSimulator3.2.sdk iPhoneSimulator4.0.sdk However, when I go to: /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport 3.0 3.0.1 3.1 3.1.1 3.1.2 3.1.3 3.2 4.0 (8A274b) I've tried re-installing the most recent XCode DMG to no avail. • How to update data in the user information list when using FBA

  I've got to support a SharePoint web application which uses FBA with a custom membership and a custom role provider to authenticate the user against two different LDAPs. The user data are only stored in the user information lists. The SSP user profiles are not used. Now one of the users got married and therefore her surname got changed in the LDAP (the one where her information are stored). But this change doesn't get provisioned into the user information list. I wondering what option I have to provision changes of user data to the user information list. I've already tried to update the last name of the user manually, but it seems as if certain information like surname, first name are not editable in the user information list. I tried to edit them as a site administrator. So what option do I have to solve this problem? Being able to edit the information per hand would also be a solution but of course not the most preferred one.

The solution below works fine but I am specifically looking for a way to lookup manager of the user who created the holiday request list item in the workflow. I tried to use the Union operation and got a new list with values (A, B, C, D}. However, I need the B & C values from the second list, not first one.   I have an (non-virtualized) ItemsControl that binds its ItemsSource to a ObeservableCollection of ViewModel instances. Now once the large amount Model instances is loaded all the ViewModel complemnents needs to be added to that ObservableCollection. How can I add a large amount of ViewModels without making the UI Thread hang? I suppose the UI Thread hangs because each time a new item is added the ItemsControl needs to update itself and does layout etc. over and over again. Should I suspend the binding add all items and then resume? If so, how? Should I override the ObservableCollection to implement an AddRange so only 1 CollectionChanged Event is fired for adding multiple items? Or alternatively just replace the whole collection? Or is it better to add each items separately and call Dispatcher.Invoke for each item separately? So I would unblock frequently. How do you handle large dynamic lists that can not be virtualized?

The user will provide two lists of tags, include and exclude. I need to find all the entities that have all of the include tags, and exclude any entites that have any tag in the exclude list. Below is my first effort- which is clearly wrong as its listing all Display objects that have any of the include tags rather than all! • Roll up project-level tasks to the project collection portal in TFS2010

  I have a Project Collection setup in my TFS2010RC deployment. I have two Projects setup under this collection with their own task lists, which are populated with data. I fully expected the tasks from these individual projects to "roll up" and appear in the task list at the Project Collection level, but they do not. The Project Collection task list is empty. Basically, I'm looking to provide a view so a supervisor could see all tasks across projects quickly and easily. I'm sure I could write a reporting services report, but it seems like this is something so basic that it would have been included and it just need to be turned on or something. I'm sure I'm probably missing something really simple here. Thanks.

  I'm writing an application that takes HTML pages and parses them to display on the screen. Specifically, this application pulls HTML from a message board and lists posts made by users. The problem is that a lot of the content in posts are pictures in <img> tags, so I need to write a Html.ImageGetter to handle the downloading of the images. My textView.setText() method will look like this: myTextView.setText(Html.fromHtml(myText, new ImageGetter() { @Override public Drawable getDrawable(String source) { Drawable d; // Need to async download image here return d; } }, null)); Doing this synchronously is trivial, but is there a suggested way to do this asynchronously so that it doesn't lock up my UI thread? I would also like to eventually build in caching of these images, but I imagine that would be pretty simple once the async downloading was there.

  I want a method to update certain entries of an IEnumerable. I found that doing a foreach over the entries and updating the values failed as in the background I was cloning the collection. This was because my IEnumerable was backed by some LINQ-SQL queries. By changing the method to take a List I have changed this behavior, Lists are always mutable and hence the method changes the actual objects in the list. But I got the error on using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControl; I have tried to add System.Web as Reference but that still doesn't resolve the stuff. I can't see System.Web.UI and System.Web.UI.WebControl in the reference lists is this normal ? Thanks.

• Silverlight: DataContractSerializer cannot handle read only collection properties

  Hey Stackoverflowers :) For our Silverlight Project (SL4) I'm using a Model which might contain Lists (IList<AnotherModel>). According to good practice and rule CA2227:CollectionPropertiesShouldBeReadOnly the IList properties don't have a public setter. We serialize the Model using the DataContractSerializer which is working. But when I try to deserialize, a SecurityException is thrown by DataContractSerializer's ReadObject(Stream) Method, complaining that the target property (pointing to the IList property) cannot be set due to a missing public setter. Since the DataContractSerializer is sealed and neither extendable nor flexible so I currently see no chance to add some kind of additional rules which allow to deserialize the ILists using a foreach-loop on Add() method or some other method of transferring the collection items. I've also tried to dig into DataContractSerializer source (using Reflector) to create a little fork but it looks like i'd have to dig very deep and replicating whole serialization classes doesn't seem to be a viable solution. Do you see another chance to serialize a List with no public setter using the DataContractSerializer? Thank you very much in advance for your ideas! Thomas

• How to handle Append Only text fields in a Sharepoint DataSheet view?

  We've created a Sharepoint site to track a process. Eventually we're going to make a workflow out of it, but in the meantime there's a list we all have to look at which lists the various dates each piece is supposed to be finished. So basically My group needs to see and update columns X, Y, Z and Comments while ignoring the other 30 billion or so columns. Which is great in datasheet view because we can easily view our columns, and update them right there without drilling into the item and browsing through all the other crap we don't need. The problem is the Comments field, in which we really need to see the last actual comment made. Unfortunately whenever anyone saves the record the field is updated with a blank value (unless they entered a comment) and the last actual comment is lost unless you drill into the item. Is there some way to get the Datasheet view to show all the entries? I should also note that I know very little about Sharepoint 2007... so detailed answers would be nice!

  Hello, I am developing a Silverlight client using the provided navigation template for an imageboard I developed. I have a "search" tab which lists all searches for tags which were executed. I also have a show post tab which shows (also in tab-form) posts, opened from the search tab. When I open a post from the search page, it instanciates a new control (of type UserControl) and inserts this into the ShowPost page's tabcontrol. When I switch (or get switched) to the Show Post view the layout is all messed up. The UserControl inside the tab does not stretch in the tab. When I switch tabs back and forth this is strangely fixed. The reason seems to be that the user control gets created there but has no layout to "fit to" until said layout is opened, which is too late then.   I am interested in learning MVC, and have experimented with a couple of the sample apps. As a project, I'd like to move part or all of my own office app to MVC. An important part of this app, and of ALL of my apps for customers, is the printing of invoices, purchase orders, inventory lists and so forth. In fact, one of their main criteria for judging what we do is the appearance of these documents and their incorporation into the app in a practical, intuitive way. It's impossible for me to get by without a report writer. The MSFT report viewer used to produce rdlc reports has been sufficient, and even comes up better than the competition in a couple of key areas. Does this control work with an ASP.NET MVC application?

  Hi, I'm trying to generate some charts using django-googlecharts. This works fine for rather static data but in one case I would like to render a different number of lines, based on a variable. I tried this: {% chart %} {% for line in line_data %} {% chart-data line %} {% endfor %} {% chart-size "390x200" %} {% chart-type "line" %} {% chart-labels days %} {% endchart %} Line data is a list containing lists. The template code fails with "Caught an exception while rendering: max() arg is an empty sequence". I guess the problem is that I try to loop over templatetags. What approach could be used here? Or am I completely missing something? Is this doable using inclusion tags? Thanks for your help.

  When using in-app audio in the iPhone SDK, it is possible to allow users to select a list from their ipod library and create an in-app local playlist. If I want to persist this choice, it is easy to serialize the data and write to file, then recover. Just vanilla like this, however, leads me to think there is going to be something wrong. For example, what if the user syncs and removes sounds? I can loop across them all and query the iPod DB at setup time, but with lists that could be 50,000 long, this could take some time. How are other people doing this and what are some gotchas that I haven't though about?

  I've installed the System.Data.SQLite ADO.NET Provider from http://sqlite.phxsoftware.com/. I can connect to the database from within Visual Studio, I can open table schemas, views etc. I'd like to use an existing SQLite database to create an Entity Framework model in Visual Studio 2008. When I try to create a new ADO.NET Entity Data Model (.edmx) file using the wizard, the existing SQLite connection is not in the list though. Also, it's not possible to create a SQLite connection because there is no provider for SQLite. It only lists SQL Server, SQL Server file and SQL Server Compact 3.5. Any idea how to solve this problem?
