  • Vmware server: Browser does not load user interface

    - by matnagel
I have the latest vmware server isntalled on ubuntu 8.04 lts 64 bit. I access the user interface over this url, which matches my ip and port settings: https://10.1.1.99:11222/ui Sometimes it works in fierofox 3.6, but sometimes not. Same in Google Chrome. When it does not work, what happens is that the cert is checked, the browser is loading something, but the result is a white page. Sometimes the favicon of vmware (blue with 3 squares) appears, but only the white page. And sometimes it works. I reload many times, most of the time the whit epage appears again. On some days I succeed. But on many days not. I can give more info if someone tells me what is needed. Please help, we need this badly.

  • Custom Web Control - ParseChildren & Resource Objects

    - by Raybiez
I hope someone can help me. I have the following custom server control: [ParseChildren(true)] public class MyControl : WebControl, INamingContainer { [PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] public string MyProperty { get;set; } } It works perfectly with the following mark-up: <acme:MyControl runat="sever"> <MyProperty>Test String</MyProperty> </acme:MyControl> But if I try to localise the property string, I get a parse error: <acme:MyControl runat="sever"> <MyProperty><%=(string)GetLocalResourceObject("MyResourceKey") %></MyProperty> </acme:MyControl> Even if I cast the type, ASP.NET indicates that the property cannot accept controls as children. How should the expression look like if I want to localise it? I can make the property accessible as an attribute of the control's tag, but I prefer the mark-up above, it looks more elegant and clean. Thanks

  • SOLR multicore shared configuration

    - by Mark
I'm using multiple cores in SOLR to enable offline population of indices (and then using SWAP to swap out the active core). I want to use the same solrconfig.xml file for both cores - can someone tell me where I should put this so it can be picked up by SOLR?

  • ASP.net MVC Routing on Postback

    - by Mark Kadlec
In my ASP.net MVC View I have a dropdown that I want to get details on selection and asynchronously update a div. My aspx is as follows: <% using (Html.BeginForm("Index", "Portal", FormMethod.Post, new { id = "TheForm" })) {%> <h2>Index</h2> <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("Details", new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "mpkResults" })) { %> <%=Html.DropDownList("Docs", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["Docs"], new { onchange = "document.getElementById('TheForm').submit();" })%> <p><input type="submit" value="Details" /></p> <% } %> <div id="mpkResults" style="margin:10px 0px 0px 0px;"></div> ... The onchange event fires correctly on selection of the dropdown, but instead of the Details method in my code behind firing, it hits my Index method. Why is the details method not getting hit on the onchange event? My Details() method in the controller is: public ActionResult Details() { ... < It never gets here, just goes to the index() method } It's a little frustrating right now since I'm sure it is a simple mistake but not sure what it could be. I looked at the Source of my page and sure enough, the form looks like it should be routing to the Details Action: <form action="/Portal/Details" method="post" ... Any help would be appreciated.

  • Different results coming out of an init method than those expected. Why does this happen and how can

    - by Mark Reid
When I run this method the two properties I have are set to (NULL) when I try and access them outside of the if statement. But they are set to 0 and NO if I check them inside the for loop. -(id) init { NSLog(@"Jumping into the init method!"); if (self = [super init]) { NSLog(@"Running the init method extras"); accumulator = 0; NSLog(@"self.accumulator is %g", accumulator); decimal = NO; } NSLog(@"Calc after init is: %@ and %@", self.accumulator, self.decimal); return self; } Any suggestions as to why what comes out is different from what's done in the for loop?

  • Using the MongoDB Ruby driver in Rails? (without an object mapper)

    - by Mark L
I have recently been getting my feet wet in MongoDB using Mongoid w/ Rails 3, but I'm now interested in learning the low level MongoDB features using only the Ruby driver, and trying some map/reduce that would not be possible through Mongoid (afaik) I'm not entirely sure where in Rails I should be setting up the db connections etc, and any pointers would be much appreciated!

  • Saving an IP adddress to DB

    - by Mark
I want to save a user's IP address to my database just in case any legal issues come up and we need to track down who performed what action. Since I highly doubt I will ever actually need to use this data (well, maybe for counting unique hits or something) do you think I can just dump the REMOTE_ADDR into a field? If so, what should the length of that field be? 39 chars should fit an IPv6 address, no? I don't know if I'll ever get any of those, but just in case...

  • Object responsibilities - list and item

    - by Mark Tyler
My question is more like a theoretical. Say you have an object, that represents the list of something (articles, pages, accounts etc.) class ObjCollection You have a class, that represents a specific item in collection: class objItem I have a problem thinking of a basic responsibilities of each object. Which class is responsible for creating a new objItem? Which class is responsible for deleting a objItem? Should it delete itself as a method?

  • SetPixelFormat is not creating an alpha channel for OpenGL

    - by i_photon
    I've been able to do this before, and I don't know what changed between two weeks ago and the last windows update, but for some reason SetPixelFormat isn't creating an alpha channel. gDebugger shows that the window's back buffer only has 3 channels. White+0 alpha renders as white. So there is something inherently wrong with what I was doing, or an update broke it. The code below should be paste-able into an empty VS project. #include <Windows.h> #include <dwmapi.h> #include <gl/GL.h> #pragma comment(lib,"opengl32.lib") #pragma comment(lib,"dwmapi.lib") HWND hWnd = 0; HDC hDC = 0; HGLRC hRC = 0; LRESULT CALLBACK WndProc(HWND, UINT, WPARAM, LPARAM); int APIENTRY WinMain( HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow ) { WNDCLASSEX wcex = {0}; wcex.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wcex.lpfnWndProc = WndProc; wcex.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wcex.lpszClassName = TEXT("why_class"); RegisterClassEx(&wcex); // no errors hWnd = CreateWindowEx( NULL, TEXT("why_class"), TEXT("why_window"), WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW, 128,128, 256,256, NULL, NULL, hInstance, NULL ); // no errors PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR pfd = {0}; pfd.nSize = sizeof(pfd); pfd.nVersion = 1; pfd.dwFlags = PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW| PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL| PFD_DOUBLEBUFFER| PFD_SUPPORT_COMPOSITION; pfd.cColorBits = 32; pfd.cAlphaBits = 8; // need an alpha channel pfd.cDepthBits = 24; pfd.cStencilBits = 8; hDC = GetDC(hWnd); int i = ChoosePixelFormat(hDC,&pfd); SetPixelFormat(hDC,i,&pfd); // no errors hRC = wglCreateContext(hDC); // no errors wglMakeCurrent(hDC,hRC); // no errors // EDIT: Turn on alpha testing (which actually won't // fix the clear color problem below) glEnable(GL_BLEND); glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA,GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA); // EDIT: Regardless of whether or not GL_BLEND is enabled, // a clear color with an alpha of 0 should (or did at one time) // make this window transparent glClearColor( 0,0,0, // if this is (1,1,1), the window renders // solid white regardless of the alpha 0 // changing the alpha here has some effect ); DWM_BLURBEHIND bb = {0}; bb.dwFlags = DWM_BB_ENABLE|DWM_BB_TRANSITIONONMAXIMIZED; bb.fEnable = TRUE; bb.fTransitionOnMaximized = TRUE; DwmEnableBlurBehindWindow(hWnd,&bb); // no errors ShowWindow(hWnd, SW_SHOWNORMAL); UpdateWindow(hWnd); // no errors MSG msg = {0}; while(true){ GetMessage(&msg,NULL,NULL,NULL); if(msg.message == WM_QUIT){ return (int)msg.wParam; } TranslateMessage(&msg); DispatchMessage(&msg); glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT|GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); glBegin(GL_TRIANGLES); // this vertex should be transparent, // as it was when I last built this test // // it renders as white glColor4f(1,1,1,0); glVertex2f(0,0); glColor4f(0,1,1,1); glVertex2f(1,0); glColor4f(1,0,1,1); glVertex2f(0,1); glEnd(); SwapBuffers(hDC); } return (int)msg.wParam; } LRESULT CALLBACK WndProc(HWND hWnd, UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { switch (message) { case WM_DESTROY: { PostQuitMessage(0); }return 0; default: break; } return DefWindowProc(hWnd, message, wParam, lParam); }

  • Java website protection solutions (especially XSS)

    - by Mark
I'm developing a web application, and facing some security problems. In my app users can send messages and see other's (a bulletin board like app). I'm validating all the form fields that users can send to my app. There are some very easy fields, like "nick name", that can be 6-10 alpabetical characters, or message sending time, which is sended to the users as a string, and then (when users ask for messages, that are "younger" or "older" than a date) I parse this with SimpleDateFormat (I'm developing in java, but my question is not related to only java). The big problem is the message field. I can't restrict it to only alphabetical characters (upper or lowercase), because I have to deal with some often use characters like ",',/,{,} etc... (users would not be satisfied if the system didn't allow them to use these stuff) According to this http://ha.ckers.org/xss.html, there are a lot of ways people can "hack" my site. But I'm wondering, is there any way I can do to prevent that? Not all, because there is no 100% protection, but I'd like a solution that can protect my site. I'm using servlets on the server side, and jQuery, on the client side. My app is "full" AJAX, so users open 1 JSP, then all the data is downloaded and rendered by jQuery using JSON. (yeah, I know it's not "users-without-javascript" friendly, but it's 2010, right? :-) ) I know front end validation is not enough. I'd like to use 3 layer validation: - 1. front end, javascript validate the data, then send to the server - 2. server side, the same validation, if there is anything, that shouldn't be there (because of client side javascript), I BAN the user - 3. if there is anything that I wasn't able to catch earlier, the rendering process handle and render appropriately Is there any "out of the box" solution, especially for java? Or other solution that I can use?

  • WCF Async callback setup for polled device

    - by Mark Pim
I have a WCF service setup to control a USB fingerprint reader from our .Net applications. This works fine and I can ask it to enroll users and so on. The reader allows identification (it tells you that a particular user has presented their finger, as opposed to asking it to verify that a particular user's finger is present), but the device must be constantly polled while in identification mode for its status - when a user is detected the status changes. What I want is for an interested application to notify the service that it wants to know when a user is identified, and provide a callback that gets triggered when this happens. The WCF service will return immediately and spawn a thread in the background to continuously poll the device. This polling could go on for hours at a time if no one tries to log in. What's the best way to acheive this? My service contract is currently defined as follows: [ServiceContract (CallbackContract=typeof(IBiometricCallback))] public interface IBiometricWcfService { ... [OperationContract (IsOneWay = true)] void BeginIdentification(); ... } public interface IBiometricCallback { ... [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] void IdentificationFinished(int aUserId, string aMessage, bool aSuccess); ... } In my BeginIdentification() method can I easily spawn a worker thread to poll the device, or is it easier to make the WCF service asynchronous?

  • Illustrator "Save for Web & Devices" returning crappy, pixelated images

    - by Tory Waterman
I'm trying to create a nice title for my webpage... a big white title to sit on a black background. I'm using Illustrator to do so. When I create it, it looks nice, but when I hit "save for web & devices", it comes out looking like a pixelated piece of crap on the site. Is there some setting I need to change to make Illustrator save a higher resolution image? Thanks EDIT I understand, from looking at some other posts, that this may be a result of "posterization" or "dither", but this is only a plain white image so I don't how this results in a colors problem. (I could be completely misinterpreting these terms) EDIT Figured version might be important... I'm using CS5.1

  • Getting a ReturnValue from cmd.Parameters in c#?

    - by mark smith
Hi, I have just finished converted a vb.net app to c# and one of the lines is to get @ReturnValue from the parameter. I ended up having to CAST a lot of things.. Is there not a easier way here is what i have int rc = ((System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlInt32)(((System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter)(cmd.Parameters["@ReturnValue"])).SqlValue)).Value; In vb.net it was as simple as doing this Dim rc As Integer = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.Parameters("@ReturnValue").Value) Alot easier :-) But the problem with C# is the property Value isn't available unless I Cast to SqlParameter and i also need to cast to Sqltypes.SqlInt32 - i can't just do a standard Convert.ToInt32

  • Servlet doPost() Method setup?

    - by Mark R
I am interested in creating a web app that uses JSP, Servlets and XML. At the moment I have the following: JSP - Form input. Servlet - Retrieving Form data and sending that data to a java object. Java object (1) - Converts data into XML file....instantiates java object (2). Java object (2) - Sends that file to a database. On the returning side the database will send back another XML file that I will then process using XSLT to display back to the user. Can I place that XSLT code in the orignial Servlets doPost() method? So my doPost()` method would: Retrieve user inputted data from the form on my JSP page. Instantiate a java object to convert that data to XML, in-turn that object will instantiates another object to send the XML file to a database. Converts the resulting XML file sent from the database and displays it for the user. Can one servlet doPost() method handle all of this? If not, how would I set up my application and classes to handle this work flow? Thank you in advance

  • EllipseGeometry is not rendering in Silverlight

    - by Mark Nelson
I'm trying to draw a circle in WP7 Silverlight using EllipseGeometry instead of Ellipse. The sample XAML in MSDN does not display anything on the canvas in Visual Studio. If I run the app, it does display in the emulator. <Canvas> <Path Fill="Gold" Stroke="Black" StrokeThickness="1"> <Path.Data> <EllipseGeometry Center="50,50" RadiusX="50" RadiusY="50" /> </Path.Data> </Path> </Canvas> Any ideas what is happening?

  • What coding standards do you follow?

    - by Mark Szymanski
I was just curious what coding standards people followed. I for one use the following: Brackets ALWAYS go on the next line. For instance: int main() { //Blah... } I never use code folding. (Yes my IDE's do support it (Xcode and Eclipse). Put related functions/methods single-spaced, otherwise double space. Here is an example: int foo = 0; printf("%d",foo); those are related while these are not: printf("Hello, World!"); return(0); I don't put else statements on the same line as the closing bracket for the preceding if statement. Most of the time in Java if a program needs multiple try catch statements I will just put the whole thing in one try catch.
