• Intel 82576 Network card

  I have an Intel dual port pcie NIC card with two 82576 interfaces according to ubuntu 12.04. I run the command sudo lshw -html > /home/melman/Documents/hardware.html and it shows both of the interfaces but they're grayed out?! • Time Capsule Refuses to Connect After Interrupted File Transfer

  I have a first generation Apple Time Capsule set up as a NAS on my network. I use the built-in hard drive for Time Machine backups, with a 1.5 TB external HDD attached to the Time Capsule over USB. Whenever I cancel a file transfer from the external drive to my Macbook (or quit a video I had been streaming from it, as was the most recent incident), I can no longer connect to the Time Capsule or the attached drive, and I have to unplug it to get it working again. How can I fix this? Is it a network error? Could the Time Capsule be at fault or could it be my computer?

• Adding Previous/Next Functionality to jQuery Map Highlight Plugin

  As you can see in my jsFiddle example, I have a diagram that uses jQuery Map Highlight plugin to allow users to click to different parts of the diagram and see the corresponding text to the left. Right now, the only way to interact with the diagram is by clicking on it. I'd like to give users the ability to hit previous and next buttons to control it as well. • Snow Leopard can see Windows shares in Finder but can't connect

  I have an iMac with the latest version of Snow Leopard on it. I have a NAS drive and a Windows machine that both show up in the Finder's 'Shared' section. However, if I click on them, Finder says "Connection Failed". Clicking on 'Connect As...' gives an error dialog that says "The server 'blah' may not exist or it is unavailable at this time." Points of interest: All machines are receiving their IP/DNS info from the router using DHCP. I have a Mac Mini on the same network that connects to the NAS drive and windows machine perfectly with no config (i.e. worked out of the box). Both Macs are on the same version of Snow Leopard. There is no password required to access the NAS share. I've never setup a WINS server on any machines and all machines are using 'workgroup' by default. I've tried putting "workgroup" in the Mac's workgroup entry and have tried leaving it blank, neither solves the problem. Here are some things I have tried: Finder-Connect To Server: smb:///share. This works, but by name does not. Terminal-mount_smbfs //@/share share. This also works by ip, but not be name, resulting in "mount_smbfs: server connection failed: No route to host". If I put the IP address of the NAS in the WINS server entry in the Mac's network setup, I can connect by name. It obviously seems to be a name resolution error, but I can't figure out why. The only thing that has changed since it used to work is that I got a new router that now gives out DHCP (all machines are dhcp clients) addresses of 192.168.x.x, but used to be 10.0.x.x. I've grep'd through everything that might have saved that old address, but can't find anything. It's also worth noting that the second Mac (the one that connects successfully) was added to the network after the router change. Please let me know if there are additional points of information needed to troubleshoot this further. Thanks, Randy

  I think the steps are something like: Install DD-WRT on a router with an external hard-drive Install Optware to get Samba Upgrade to Samba 3.6 (the link shows Samba 3.5, but using the NSLU2 optware packages, you can get 3.6 with built-in SMB2.0) ...then a miracle occurs... Then you can use SMB2.0 to connect to your share What is step 4? I can't find it on forums, etc. Am using Microsoft Network monitor to check for SMB2.0 connection, I'm on Windows 7 and have tried network connections on wireless and gigabit wired to the router. No joy. I doubt it matters, but to get ahead of the questions: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/26/10) big (SVN revision 15508M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko) on Cisco/Linksys E3000

  I need to speak tomorrow the network engineer and I would like to understand his so apologise for the Dummy question: In the school we have a cab with a 24 port Netgear manageable switch with an admin and curriculum VLAN settings. Usually, as I over heard, in the morning and around 4.30pm there are a slowdown period on the computers which connect to this switch. No one could track this back yet. Questions: What is the best way to track back this slowdown Would it be a temporary solution to physical separate the two network with 2 switches If that would work how can I link them together to be able to see the curriculum from the admin side. Do I need an extra router then? Too many questions but I have no clue where to start and the gentleman will be paid by hours... can you see where I am coming from?:) Could you guide me in the right direction please? • Xen private networking between multiple hosts

  I have two physical hosts running Xen 3.2, sharing storage via iSCSI. On these two hosts are a number of domUs and I'd like to network them in multiple private networks so they can only contact other domUs on their private network. My understanding of the xen documentation suggests it's possible to do this within one dom0 (ie create virtual networks between domUs), but I've found nothing explaining how this can be implemented across multiple dom0s on different hosts. The only thing that jumps to mind is manually creating iptable rules to route data to the other host, but this seems to lack elegance and could quickly grow cumbersome. Any suggestions? All advice is much appreciated!

• VPN says "successfully connected" and I'm internet-connected, but I can't access network resources

However on my Ubuntu 12.04 partition I'm able to connect to the internet (in fact I'm typing this while connected through the VPN presumably) but journals have locked me out.   Hello I am experiencing very huge problem. I have 4 computers in network, and from each a lot of data is being sent to ISP name servers. Sometimes data is being sent a little from each computer in network, sometimes it is just a lot of data from one computer. I have antivirus (Avast) and malware scan (SpyBot) I know port 53 UDP is dns which resolves domain IP so its' needed. Also I have read that ISP name server might have been infected. • How does one network at software conferences?

  Well... I'm still at Microsoft TechEd -- and the response to my last question was overwhelmingly "networking is the most useful part of software conferences". Problem: I have no idea how to even approach that task. I've always been kind of an introvert. At school and at work I've generally not had issues because there are enough extroverts around that approach me that I've made some awesome friends over the years. However, at conferences, it seems most are introverted like myself, and those who aren't seem to be salespeople. The couple of times I've felt okay approaching people it's been after a session where there's been healthy discussion throughout the whole room, and just when I get the nerve to go up and talk to some people, they leave and go on to other things. Are there books I can read? Advice I can take? Anything as far as approaching people one does not know? 'Cause every time I try I just feel like an awkward mess. :( (Oddly enough, I don't have problems speaking to a group of people -- it's the one-on-one things that trip me up :P) (Oh, and by the way, if anyone from here is also there and would like to meet to talk about things, I'm game :P)

• Ad-hoc connection between iPhone and Macbook Pro

  I sometimes find it useful to connect my iPhone to my Macbook Pro by creating an ad-hoc wireless network from the MBP and connecting to that from the iPhone. However, what I find is that sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. When it's not working the symptoms are usually that I see the ad-hoc SSID in the list of available networks on the iPhone, can connect to it from there (including entering my WEP key), and it shows up as the wifi network in use. However I don't get the wifi symbol in the taskbar (it remains as 3G) and attempting to use the connection (e.g. trying to connect to iTunes or Keynote using their respective Remote apps) fails saying that there is so wifi connection. I've tried rebooting both the iPhone and the MBP, recreating networks with different SSIDs and tried different channels - all to no avail! I'm especially puzzled that (a) sometimes it works just fine first time and (b) the Settings app seems to think its all connected fine. Is there anything else I should be trying?
