  • [PERL Tk] printing Line number in Text widget

    - by ungalnanban
    I use the following code for printing the line number in Text widget. my $c=0; my $r=0; $txt = $mw-Text( -background ='white', -width=>400, -height=>300, -selectbackground => 'skyblue', -insertwidth => 5, -borderwidth =>3, -highlightcolor => 'blue', ### after visit -highlightbackground => 'red' , ### default before visit -xscrollcommand => sub { print"CHAT NO :",$c++; }, # Determines the callback used when the Text widget is scrolled horizontally. -yscrollcommand = sub { print"LINR NO:",$r++; }, # Determines the callback used when the Text widget is scrolled vertically. -padx = 5, -pady = 5, )- pack (); the above code is printing the line number and character no is ok. but I used in Scrolled widget that output is not printing. what is the problem in the following code how can I solve this? $txt = $mw-Scrolled('Text', -scrollbars = 'se', -background ='white', -width=>400, -height=>300, -insertwidth => 5, -borderwidth =>3, -highlightcolor => 'blue', ### after visit -highlightbackground => 'red' , ### default before visit -padx => 5, -pady => 5, -xscrollcommand => sub { print"CHAT NO :",$c++; }, # Determines the callback used when the Text widget is scrolled horizontally. -yscrollcommand => sub { print"LINR NO :",$r++; }, # Determines the callback used when the Text widget is scrolled vertically. )->pack();

  • ERB Template removing the trailing line

    - by KandadaBoggu
    I have an ERB template for sending an email. Name: <%= @user.name %> <% unless @user.phone.blank? %> Phone: <%= @user.phone %> <% end %> Address: <%= @user.address %> When the user hasn't set the phone then the email body is as follows: Name: John Miller Address: X124 Dummy Lane, Dummy City, CA I am trying to remove the blank line between Name and Address when Phone is empty. Name: John Miller Address: X124 Dummy Lane, Dummy City, CA I have tried to use <%--%> tags(to remove the trailing new line) without any success. Name: <%= @user.name %> <%- unless @user.phone.blank? -%> Phone: <%= @user.phone %> <%- end -%> Address: <%= @user.address -%> How do I work around this issue?

  • Fastest Java way to remove the first/top line of a file (like a stack)

    - by christangrant
    I am trying to improve an external sort implementation in java. I have a bunch of BufferedReader objects open for temporary files. I repeatedly remove the top line from each of these files. This pushes the limits of the Java's Heap. I would like a more scalable method of doing this without loosing speed because of a bunch of constructor calls. One solution is to only open files when they are needed, then read the first line and then delete it. But I am afraid that this will be significantly slower. So using Java libraries what is the most efficient method of doing this. --Edit-- For external sort, the usual method is to break a large file up into several chunk files. Sort each of the chunks. And then treat the sorted files like buffers, pop the top item from each file, the smallest of all those is the global minimum. Then continue until for all items. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/External_sorting My temporary files (buffers) are basically BufferedReader objects. The operations performed on these files are the same as stack/queue operations (peek and pop, no push needed). I am trying to make these peek and pop operations more efficient. This is because using many BufferedReader objects takes up too much space.

  • Can this be done in 1 line?

    - by Angelo
    Can this be done in 1 line with PHP? Would be awesome if it could: $out = array("foo","bar"); echo $out[0]; Something such as: echo array("foo","bar")[0]; Unfortunately that's not possible. Would it be possible like this? So I can do this for example in 1 line: echo array(rand(1,100), rand(1000,2000))[rand(0,1)]; So let's say I have this code: switch($r){ case 1: $ext = "com"; break; case 2: $ext = "nl"; break; case 3: $ext = "co.uk"; break; case 4: $ext = "de"; break; case 5: $ext = "fr"; break; } That would be much more simplified to do it like this: $ext = array("com","nl","co.uk","de","fr")[rand(1,5)];

  • Same font, character spacing and line-height but different results

    - by Ben Huh
    The introduction of @font-face in CSS3 allows web designers to use fonts that look the same across all browsers. That is what I thought until trying it out with the following code in jsFiddle: HTML: <div> The_Quick_Brown<br> Fox_Jumps_Over<br> The_Lazy_Dog </div> CSS: @font-face { font-family: 'Open Sans'; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; src: url('http://themes.googleusercontent.com/static/fonts/opensans/v6/cJZKeOuBrn4kERxqtaUH3T8E0i7KZn-EPnyo3HZu7kw.woff') format('woff'); } div { display: block; width: 496px; height: 86px; font-size: 1.3em; font-family: 'Open Sans'; font-style: normal; margin: 0; border: 0; padding: 0; background: cyan; letter-spacing: 1.44em; line-height: 1.44; overflow: hidden; } This is the view from Firefox 12.0. Take note of the partially obscured 'o' in 'brown', the position of 'g' in 'dog' and the underscore '_' at the bottom edge. This is the view from Google Chrome 19.0. Despite explicitly setting letter-spacing and line-height for the same font, why are the results still different?

  • Code-Golf: one line PHP syntax

    - by Kendall Hopkins
    Explanation PHP has some holes in its' syntax and occasionally in development a programmer will step in them. This can lead to much frustration as these syntax holes seem to exist for no reason. For example, one can't easily create an array and access an arbitrary element of that array on the same line (func1()[100] is not valid PHP syntax). The workaround for this issue is to use a temporary variable and break the statement into two lines, but sometimes that can lead to very verbose, clunky code. Challenge I know of a few of these holes (I'm sure there are more). It is quite hard to even come up with a solution, let alone in a code-golf style. Winner is the person with in the least characters total for all four Syntax Holes. Rules Statement must be one line in this form: $output = ...;, where ... doesn't contain any ;'s. Only use standard library functions (no custom functions allowed) Statement works identically to the assumed functional of the non-working syntax (even in cases that it fails). Statement must run without syntax error of any kind with E_STRICT | E_ALL. Syntax Holes $output = func_return_array()[$key]; - accessing an arbitrary offset (string or integer) of the returned array of a function $output = new {$class_base.$class_suffix}(); - arbitrary string concatenation being used to create a new class $output = {$func_base.$func_suffix}(); - arbitrary string concatenation being called as function $output = func_return_closure()(); - call a closure being returned from another function

  • Starting Beyond Compare from the Command Line

    - by Logan
    I have Beyond Compare 3 installed at; "C:\Program Files\Beyond Compare 3\BCompare.exe" and Cygwin; "C:\Cygwin\bin\bash.exe" What I would like is to be able to use a command such as; diff <file1> <file2> into the Cygwin shell and to have the shell fork a process opening the two files in beyond compare. I looked at the Beyond Compare Support Page but I'm afraid It was too brief for me. I tried copying the text verbatim (apart from path to executable) to no avail; Instead of using a batch file, create a file named "bc.sh" with the following line: "$(cygpath 'C:\Progra~1\Beyond~1\bcomp.exe')" `cygpath -w "$6"` `cygpath -w "$7"` /title1="$3" /title2="$5" /readonly Was I supposed to replace cygpath? I get a 'Command not found' error when I enter the name of the script on the command line. gavina@whwgavina1 /cygdrive $ "C:\Documents and Settings\gavina\Desktop\bc.sh" bash: C:\Documents and Settings\gavina\Desktop\bc.sh: command not found Does anyone have Beyond Compare working as I have described? Is this even possible in a Windows environment? Thanks in advance!

  • Memcache error: Failed reading line from stream (0) Array

    I get some variation of the following error when our server gets put under any significant load. I've Googled for hours about it and tried everything (including upgrading to the latest versions and clean installs). I've read all the posts about it here on SA, but can't figure it out. A lot of people are having the same problem, but no one seems to have a definitive answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. • Line End Problem Reading with Scanner Class in Java

    - by dikbas
    I am not an experienced Java programmer and i'm trying to write some text to a file and then read it with Scanner. I know there are lots of ways of doing this, but i want to write records to file with delimiters, then read the pieces. The problem is so small. When I look the output some printing isn't seen(shown in below). I mean the bold line in the Output that is only written "Scanner". I would be appreciated if anyone can answer why "String: " isn't seen there. (Please answer just what i ask) I couldn't understand if it is a simple printing problem or a line end problem with "\r\n". Here is the code and output: import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.FileWriter; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Scanner; public class Tmp { public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException { int i; boolean b; String str; FileWriter fout = new FileWriter("test.txt"); fout.write("Testing|10|true|two|false\r\n"); fout.write("Scanner|12|one|true|"); fout.close(); FileReader fin = new FileReader("Test.txt"); Scanner src = new Scanner(fin).useDelimiter("[|\\*]"); while (src.hasNext()) { if (src.hasNextInt()) { i = src.nextInt(); System.out.println("int: " + i); } else if (src.hasNextBoolean()) { b = src.nextBoolean(); System.out.println("boolean: " + b); } else { str = src.next(); System.out.println("String: " + str); } } fin.close(); } } Here is the output: String: Testing int: 10 boolean: true String: two String: false Scanner int: 12 String: one boolean: true

  • import text file containing line breaks into excel

    - by Maximilian Tyrtania
    I have a plain text file looking like this: "some text containing line breaks" I'm trying to talk excel 2004 (Mac, v.11.5) into opening this file correctly. I'd expect to see only one cell (A1) containing all of the above (without the quotes)... But alas, I can't make it happen, because Excel seems to insist on using the CR's as row delimiters, even if I set the text qualifier to double quote. I was sort of hoping that Excel would understand that those line breaks are part of the value - they are embedded in double quotes which should qualify them as part of the value. So my Excel sheet has 5 rows, which is not what I want. I also tried this Applescript to no avail: tell application "Microsoft Excel" activate open text file filename ¬ "Users:maximiliantyrtania:Desktop:linebreaks" data type delimited ¬ text qualifier text qualifier double quote ¬ field info {{1, text format}} ¬ origin Macintosh with tab end tell If I could tell Excel to use a row delimiter other than CR (or LF), well, I'd be a happy camper, but excel seems to allow the change of the field delimiter only, not the row delimiter. Any pointers? Thanks, Max Excel's open

  • Vertical line on HxW canvas of pixels

    - by bobby williams
    I searched and found nothing. I'm trying to draw lines (simple y=mx+b ones) on a canvas of black pixels. It works fine, but no line occurs when it is vertical. I'm not sure why. My first if statement checks if the denominator is zero, therefore m is undefined and no need for a line equation. My second and third if statement check how steep it is and based on that, calculate the points in between. I don't think there is a need for other classes, since I think there is a bug in my code or I'm just not translating the mathematics into code properly. If more is needed, I'll be happy to post more. /** * Returns an collection of points that connects p1 and p2 */ public ArrayList getPoints() { ArrayList points = new ArrayList(); // checks to see if denominator in m is zero. if zero, undefined. if ((p2.getX() - p1.getX()) == 0) { for (int y = p1.getY(); y<p2.getY(); y++) { points.add(new Point(p1.getX(), y, getColor())); } } double m = (double)(p2.getY()-p1.getY())/(double)(p2.getX()-p1.getX()); int b = (int)(p1.getY() - (m * p1.getX())); // checks to see if slope is steep. if (m > -1 || m < 1) { for (int x = p1.getX(); x<p2.getX(); x++) { int y = (int) ((m*x)+b); points.add(new Point(x, y, getColor())); } } // checks to see if slope is not steep. if (m <= -1 || m >= 1) { for (int y = p1.getY(); y<p2.getY(); y++) { int x = (int) ((y-b)/m); points.add(new Point(x, y, getColor())); } } return points; }

  • sIFR 3 randomly placing text on a single line in FF3.6

    - by bigsweater
    Hello, sIFR 3 is behaving strangely in Firefox. The actual sIFR flash element is set within a box that is 412px wide. In IE, Chrome, Safari, etc., the with of the Flash element is a consistent 412px; however, in Firefox, the Flash element is briefly as wide as the Body element, before correcting itself. When the page finishes loading, sometimes the Flash element remains that wide, breaking the layout (the Flash text flows underneath the sidebar to the right). Setting a width in the CSS for the .sIFR-flash element causes it to remain the proper 412px wide, but the text doesn't wrap at all--it just cuts off at the right edge, and the height of the flash element remains one line high. The markup is simple; it's just an h2 within a div. My sIFR code: var clerkenwell = { src: '/flash/sifr.swf' }; sIFR.activate(clerkenwell); sIFR.replace(clerkenwell, { selector: '.post h2', css: '.sIFR-root { color: #1899c4; text-transform:uppercase; font-size:30px; }', transparent: 'true', }); Setting forceWidth: 'true', just causes the same problem as using a CSS width on the .sIFR-flash element. So: how can I get the sIFR text to remain as wide as its containing element while allowing for line breaks in Firefox? Thanks for any and all help!

  • Passing command line arguments in C#

    - by Mark
    Hi, I'm trying to pass command line arguments to C# application, but I have problem passing something like this: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\App name" even if I add " " to the argument? Any help?? Here is the code: public ObjectModel(String[] args) { if (args.Length == 0) return; //no command line arg. //System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(args.Length.ToString()); //System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(args[0]); //System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(args[1]); //System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(args[2]); //System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(args[3]); if (args.Length == 3) { try { RemoveInstalledFolder(args[0]); RemoveUserAccount(args[1]); RemoveShortCutFolder(args[2]); RemoveRegistryEntry(); } catch (Exception e) { } } } And here is what I'm passing: C:\WINDOWS\Uninstaller.exe "C:\Program Files\Application name\" "username" "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\application name" The problem is: I can get the first and the second args correct, but the last one it gets like this: C:\Documents

  • Unix [Homework]: Get a list of /home/user/ directories in /etc/passwd

    - by KChaloux
    I'm very new to Unix, and currently taking a class learning the basics of the system and its commands. I'm looking for a single command line to list off all of the user home directories in alphabetical order from the /etc/passwd directory. This applies only to the home directories, and not the contents within them. There should be no duplicate entries. I've tried many permutations of commands such as the following: sort -d | find /etc/passwd /home/* -type -d | uniq | less I've tried using -path, -name, removing -type, using -prune, and changing the search pattern to things like /home/*/$, but haven't gotten good results once. At best I can get a list of my own directory (complete with every directory inside it, which is bad), and the directories of the other students on the server (without the contained directories, which is good). I just can't get it to display the /home/user directories and nothing else for my own account. Many thanks in advance.

  • Memcache textual protocol cheatsheet ?

    - by Maxim Veksler
    Memcached interface is implemented using a textual protocol. Sometimes it's very useful to be to fetch data stored on your remote server simply by invoking netcat with some shell kung fu, for example: To download the XML result of your nightly data crunching job you might run something like: echo "get 95ec6c7693ec53771c8a3fb1061562b8" | nc localhost 11211 > console_overview_06_04_2010.xml The interesting part here is get SOME_UNIQUE_KEY which is part of the memcached protocol. What other useful usages can you suggest in regard to the ability to interact with memcached using nothing more then command line tools? Thank you, Maxim.

  • Python imaging alternatives

    - by Paul McMillan
    I have python code that needs to do just a couple simple things to photographs: crop, resize, and overlay a watermark. I've used PIL, and the resample/resize results are TERRIBLE. I've used imagemagick, and the interface and commands were designed by packaging a cat in a box, and then repeatedly throwing it down a set of stairs at a keyboard. I'm looking for something which is not PIL or Imagemagick that I can use with python to do simple, high-quality image transformations. For that matter, it doesn't even have to have python bindings if the command line interface is good. Oh, and it needs to be relatively platform agnostic, our production servers are linux, but some of our devs develop on windows. It can't require the installation of a bunch of silly gui code to use as a library, either.

  • piping findstr's output

    - by Gauthier
    Windows command line, I want to search a file for all rows starting with: # NNN "<file>.inc" where NNN is a number and <file> any string. I want to use findstr, because I cannot require that the users of the script install ack. Here is the expression I came up with: >findstr /r /c:"^# [0-9][0-9]* \"[a-zA-Z0-9_]*.inc" all_pre.txt The file to search is all_pre.txt. So far so good. Now I want to pipe that to another command, say for example more. >findstr /r /c:"^# [0-9][0-9]* \"[a-zA-Z0-9]*.inc" all_pre.txt | more The result of this is the same output as the previous command, but with the file name as prefix for every row (all_pre.txt). Then comes: FINDSTR: cannot open | FINDSTR: cannot open more Why doesn't the pipe work? snip of the content of all_pre.txt # 1 "main.ss" # 7 "main.ss" # 11 "main.ss" # 52 "main.ss" # 1 "Build_flags.inc" # 7 "Build_flags.inc" # 11 "Build_flags.inc" # 20 "Build_flags.inc"

  • Question about Java File Reader.

    - by Cris Carter
    Hello. I'm having some problems with the FileReader class. How do I specify an offset in the lines it goes through, and how do I tell it when to stop? Let's say I want it to go through each line in a .txt file, but only lines 100-200 and then stop? How would I do this? Right now I'm using ReadLine() but I don't think there's a way to specify offset with that. Any fast help is VERY appreciated. Thanks.
