• Don't miss Virtual Developer Day - All about ADF next week

• Is Domain Driven Design useful / productive for not so complex domains?

  When assessing a potential project at work, I suggested that it might be advantageous to use a domain driven design approach to its object model. The project does not have an excessively complex domain, so my coworker threw this at me: It has been said, that DDD is favorable in instances where there is a complex domain model (“...It applies whenever we are operating in a complex, intricate domain” Eric Evans). What I'm lost on is - how you define the complexity of a domain? Can it be defined by the number of aggregate roots in the domain model? Is the complexity of a domain in the interaction of objects? The domain that we are assessing is related online publishing and content management.

• .NET mulithreading and quad core processors

  I have a single threaded application that runs on a machine with a quad core processor. The scheduled tasks that run VB.NET forms are too slow. I am new to multi threading and parallel computing. If you have a single threaded application that runs on a server with a multi core processor then does the application only ever use one of the processors? What happens if you have multiple scheduled tasks and multiple instances are in memory at the same time? I have read this question on Stackoverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/607775/how-to-write-net-applications-that-utilize-multi-core-processors, but I am still not clear.

• More about JuJu cache

  I would like to know more about JuJu cache. After I start a charm and JuJu provisions a machine for the first time, the charm will be downloaded and all dependencies installed (apt-get, etc). This process can be very long. Once the charm has been build, configured and deployed once, can JuJu provision more instances of the same charm pre-built and configured? I presume that's what the cache is for, but the documentation is not very explicit: https://juju.ubuntu.com/docs/charms-deploying.html How JuJu tracks the state of the charm if it works that way? • Oracle as a Service in the Cloud

  This should really be a Tweet, but I guess I'm writing a bit more. In theme of data migration and legacy modernization, I am seeing more and more of a push to consolidate data sources, especially from non-oracle to oracle in an effort to save dollars. From a modernization perspective, this fits in quite well. We are able to migrate things like Terradata, Sybase and DB2 and put that all into an Oracle database and then provide that as a OaaS (Oracle as a Service) Cloud offering. This seems to be a growing trend, and not unlike the cool RDS Amazon Database cloud being built on Oracle as well. We again find ourselves back in the similar theme of migration, however. The target technology sounds like a winner (COBOL to Java/SOA...DB2/Datacom/Adabas to Oracle) but the age-old problem of how to get there still persists. It it not trivial to migrate large amounts of pre-relational or "devolved" relational data. To do this, we again must revert back to a tight roadmap to migration and leverage the growing tools and services that we have. I'm working on a couple of new sections and chapters for a book that Tom and Prakash and I are writing around Database Migration and Consolidation. I'll share some snipits shortly.

  It's been some time since I have posted an entry. Now, with the release of Oracle Communications Calendar Server 7 Update 3, it seems high time to jump start this blog again. To begin with, check out what's new in this release: Authenticating Against an External Directory Booking Window for Calendars Changes to the davadmin Command Enable and Disable Account Autocreation LDAP Pools New Configuration Parameters New Languages New populate-davuniqueid Utility New Schema Objects Non-active Calendar Accounts Are No Longer Searched or Fetched Remote Document Store Authentication The upgrade is a bit more complicated than normal, as you must first apply some new schema elements to your Directory Server(s). To do so, you need to get the comm_dssetup 6.4 patch, patch the comm_dssetup script, and then run the patched comm_dssetup against your Directory Server(s) instances. In addition, if you are using the nsUniqueId attribute as your deployment's unique identifier, you'll want to change that to the new davUniqueId attribute. Consult the Upgrade Procedure for details, as well as DaBrain's blog, before forging ahead with this upgrade.   I have the last version of Chrome 5.0.xx. and my Ubuntu is also of the last version 10.04. What I usually do is to open two instances of Chrome and divide the screen into two parts. In one part my son watches cartoons in Youtube and in the other part I just read some news. So, sometimes, when I close some pages of the news I have being read the video which was being played in youtube crashes and immediately stops. I need to refresh youtube page and see the video again. What is the problem? How to solve it

• Importing Data from Google Analytics

  I am planning on building a web app with many different public-facing HTTP servers; each of which will have Google Analytics (GA) installed on them. I'd like to create a "dashboard" app that consolidates the GA data into one screen. I've been perusing the documentation for this so-called GA API, but I can't tell what the end result of the GA API is: Does the GA API allow me to do exactly what I am looking for it to do? Or... Does the GA API do something entirely different (like allow me to share my data with Google+ or something else weird) Since an API can be used to CRUD any kind of data, I guess I'm asking which way the GA API goes: is it for querying (reading) data from 1+ server instances, or is it for modifying data on those servers or somewhere else? • We Heart Discussion Forums (and Know You Do Too)

  It's not generally known, but Oracle (via Oracle Technology Network) hosts one of the largest discussion forums instances (forums.oracle.com) on the planet (founded in 2001), containing nearly 10 million messages from 1 million registered users. That's a whole lot of conversations! And we really, really value those conversations - they span almost every conceivable technical subject across hundreds of products and technologies. More often not - and this is by design - those discussions are stewarded by community volunteers, many of whom are Oracle ACEs (who in fact earned their ACE stripes that way). And so, I am very happy to tell you that we have just initiated a project with our platform partner, Jive Software, to upgrade that platform to the most current, modern version available. The end result should be a vastly improved user experience for everyone involved, in all dimensions. There are many, many details to work on in coming weeks, but we'll keep you posted - and, when needed, come back to you for advice and suggestions. For now, we just wanted to share the good news!

• vlc issue with unity

  I'm using ubuntu 12.04 with unity 3d. I am having troubles to lock vlc (version: VLC media player 2.0.1 Twoflower (revision 2.0.1-0-gf432547)) to the left panel. It doesn't behave the same way other applications do. This is a fresh install from the repo, I didn't change any settings. Ubuntu 12.04 is also a fresh install. For example, (left) clicking on it doesn't bring it to front, but creates a new instance (this in particular is very annoying, if it gets behind another window, that happens to be maximized, there is no way to bring it back up). It also doesn't have a right arrow to say the number of instances there is. Any way around that ?

WebCenter Portal 11.1.1.8 is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.  This complements our existing certifications of WebCenter Portal 11.1.1.8 with EBS 12.0 and 12.1.  WebCenter Portal 11.1.1.8 is part of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 Version 11.1.1.8.0, also known as FMW 11gR1 Patchset 7.  Certified Platforms Oracle WebCenter Portal is certified to run on any operating system for which Oracle WebLogic Server 11g is certified. • Window colors/shades/decoarations/whatever per instance

  Sometimes I open several instances of one program at the same time and have to switch between them every few seconds and get totally confused as to which is which (they all display similar information, except few bits). I'd like to have each one of them color-coded, different shades, window border, etc or have anything visual to make them differ from one another to ease the confusion. Ideally this would happen automatically when I launch a new instance. I guess this belongs to the window manager so mine is xfce. In one of the window managers I used to use a huge label was displayed each time I switched between workspaces, something like that (with window title or simple number) would do as well. Any clues?

• Hosted EBS 11i Integration Repository Temporarily Offline

  Most developers know that they can integrate their external applications with the E-Business Suite via the business service interfaces and SOA service endpoints documented in the E-Business Suite's Integration Repository.  This is shipped as part of EBS 12.  Until recently, it was provided as a hosted environment on the Oracle.com domain for EBS 11i. Unfortunately, we identified some standards-related issues in the process of switching from the existing server that hosts the EBS 11i environment to a new one, notably in the area of accessibility. Some of those issues will require coding changes to resolve.  Given our focus on EBS 12.2 right now, it may take some time to prioritize this relative to our other existing commitments. In the meantime, we are required to suspend access to the EBS 11i Integration Repository.  I don't have a firm schedule for getting this back online yet, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. • VirtualBox Port Forward

  A great new feature in VirtualBox 4.0 is the ability to use NAT networking and forward ports without needing to use ssh -L/-R tricks.  This is great for booting multiple VM domains simultaneously.  It is possible to have several instances which map back to the host machine and different ports on localhost:* automatically forward to the correct VM.  This avoids the hassle of setting up dns entries or static IP addresses.In this example, I'm mapping the host ports 3xxxx to the VM's well known server ports.Note: It is important to setup the Frontend HTTP host/port to avoid incorrect URL rewriting.You may also need to setup an http channel to deal with local traffic which uses the network address 10.0.2.15Happy VMing.

• What's a good open source cloud computing software? [closed]

  In particular, the "cloud" computing that I'm referring to is: I'm going to get some Linux servers. Then I have pretty big computing tasks to do every day. So my goal is to be able to run some shell command to request an "instance" (ie, if a server has 4 CPU, then the computing software will configure that server to have 4 instances, assuming all my tasks are single thread). Ideally, then I can run the following command: ./addjobs somebatchfile where somebatch file contains one command per line ./removejobs all ./listalljobs (ie, everything is done in shell. And the "computing software" can return me the hostname that's available in some environment variable, etc) And that's all I needed. I run into OpenStack.. but it seems too complicated for this purpose (ie, it does all the Imagine sharing stuff, etc).. All I want, is something SIMPLE that manages the Linux boxes for me and I'm just going to run shell commands on them... Is there such open source software? Thanks,

• Clicking on active apps on unity launcher stopped working

  I don't know how it suddenly became this but here's what's happening right now: e.g. I have 2 firefox windows open, so I see 2 small arrows on the left side icon of the unity launcher. Before, when I click on the firefox icon, I see 2 small windows of the firefox so I can choose which one. Now it suddenly stopped working. (super+W still works though). The bug on my system applies to all progams with multiple window instances like nautilus, terminal, etc. Please help, I don't know what to do. I also have cairo dock, compiz, myunity installed in my 12.04. I tried searching online to no avail.
