  • Large free block of english non-pronoun text

    As part of teaching myself python I've written a script which allows a user to play hangman. At the moment, the hangman word to be guessed is simply entered manually at the start of the script's code. I want instead for the script to choose randomly from a large list of english words. This I know how to do - my problem is finding that list of words to work from in the first place. Does anyone know of a source on the net for, say, 1000 common english words where they can be downloaded as a block of text or something similar that I can work with? (My initial thought was grabbing a chunk of a novel from project gutenburg [this project is only for my own amusement and won't be available anywhere else so copyright etc doesn't matter hugely to me btw], but anything like that is likely to contain too many names or non-standard words that wouldn't be suitable for hangman. I need text that only has words legal for use in scrabble, basically). It's a slightly odd question for here I suppose, but actually I thought the answer might be of use not just to me but anyone else working on a project for a wordgame or similar that needs a large seed list of words to work from.   • Key logger wont record key strokes without console

    I created a small basic key logger in C++. For some reason when I compile and run the program with the console displayed, it will record every key stroke I make in whatever program I am using such as a browser and store it in a text file. However when I make it so that it WON'T display a console window, it will not record anything and it's just a process in the background doing nothing.   • A better name for INeedSomething... ?

    I was trying pick a name for an interface through which I can pass something into an object like: If the object is INeedX then SetX(some x) method will be called; If the object is INeedY then SetY(some y) method will be called; and so on. (funny as hell, I know :) ) I try to find a different name for this kind of interfaces but I can't figure this out. Does anybody have an idea how to name the INeedSomething interface ?

  • Git 1.7.10 asks me for github username and password

    Since I have the new version it doesnt ask me anymore for the password I set in my ssh key file. It asks now directly for a github username and password when I push every time. Is this a new feature of git or changed it in the past or is there something what changed on github? I tried to authenticate using ssh and the email and password from my ssh ke file and it worked.   • hunting maven dependencies

    I want to start using maven in code I distribute but I can't find an efficient way to work with dependencies. Every new dependency takes me far too long to add. As a simple example, I need to add Tomcat for compilation. Do I really have to manually trawl the repo in my browser to find the group-id, artifact-id and version number? In every case it seems easier to find the non-maven downloads. I hope I've missed something obvious.

  • Euler rotation of direction vector

    I have defined an object in 3D space with position, rotation and scale values (all defined as 3D vectors). It also has upwards and forwards direction vectors. When I rotate the object, I need these direction vectors to rotate with it. Assuming my up vector is (0, 1, 0) and my forwards vector is (0, 0, 1) at zero rotation, how might I achieve this?

  • get metadata from jpg, dng and arw raw files

    I was wondering if anyone new how to get access the metadata (the date in particular) from jpg, arw and dng files. I've recently lost the folder structure after a merge operation gone-bad and would like to rename the recovered files according to the metadata. I'm planning on creating a little C++ app to dig into each file and get the metadata. any input is appreciated. ( alternatively, if you know of an app that already does this I'd like to know :)

    Hi, Whats the best way to ensure the user has entered a valid time string such as: 5:24 5.4 102:30 102.5 It will be entered into a UITextField therefore will be in a NSString. I want to allow the user to enter the time in either hours and minutes (hh:mm) or hours and decimal minutes (hh.m). In the hours minutes example they should be able to enter as many hours as the like but only between 0 - 59 minutes. With the hours decimal minutes I want them to only be able to enter again as many hours as the like but decimal minutes can only be 0 - 9. Many Thanks

  • Big time Leaking in Objective-C Category

    I created a custom NSString Category which lets me find all strings between two other strings. I'm now running into the problem of finding that there are a lot of kBs leaking from my script.   • Call Single StrConn from Multiple Pages

    I have a ocnnection to SQL Server set up in my vba code. The format is: strConn = "ODBC;Driver=SQL;Server=SQL1;Database=DB1;Uid=1;Pwd=1" I have this in 4 sheets, but there will be times when I will want to change it to call from SQL2 or SQL3, and instead of changing the code on each sheet 4 times, I want to change it only once. Is there a way to set up that line to run by calling it from somewhere else or by passing in a string into the ""?

  • Saving and restoring OpenGL model-view

    I am a new-comer to OpenGL, and much of it remains mysterious to my feeble brain. I have been studying the NeHe demos as well as the Red Book. I am writing an Android application that displays the Earth in the center of the screen. The user can rotate the Earth about any axis (much like a very simple "Google Earth"). This code is working (I based it on the NeHe examples). Now I want to add a feature; the user should be able to save the current model orientation, then later return to that same orientation. For example, the user may save the Earth orientation such that the viewer is looking down at her hometown, and north-east is "up". How do I do this with OpenGL-ES? To capture and save the current orientation, my code could get the current model-view transformation matrix - I think I understand how to do that. But later on how do I apply that saved matrix to restore the view?
