• iPhone check for a constant at runtime in universal app

  I'm making a universal iPad/iPhone app which can use the iPad's VGA out connector to mirror the content of the app on an external screen. However, the iPhone does not have this functionality. given the following code, [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(screenInfoNotificationReceieved:) name:UIScreenDidConnectNotification object:nil]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(screenInfoNotificationReceieved:) name:UIScreenDidDisconnectNotification object:nil]; I get this error on the phone at launch (works fine in ipad) "dyld: Symbol not found: _UIScreenDidConnectNotification" presumably because UIScreenDidConnectNotification doesnt' exist yet in 3.13. How do I check for this at runtime?

• Using STI path with same controller

  I am using STI and am wondering, do I have to have a separate controller for each model? I have a situation where I only use the create and edit actions for one model in the STI relationship, but I get an 'undefined method' error if I try to do a form for. More specifically, I have two models that inherit from List: class RegularList < List class OtherList < List and I have a lists controller that handles these actions, but I only create new models with RegularList using forms. i.e. the only situation where I use a form_for to create a new List object is with RegularList. What I would like to do is something like: class ListsController < ApplicationController def new @list = RegularList.new end otherwise the route for creating a new list looks like regular_list/new but I would like it to just be list/new. Thoughts?

  I'm trying to overload a "display" method as follows: template <typename T> void imShow(T* img, int ImgW, int ImgH); template <typename T1, typename T2> void imShow(T1* img1, T2* img2, int ImgW, int ImgH); I am then calling the template with unsigned char* im1 and char* im2: imShow(im1, im2, ImgW, ImgH); This compiles fine, but i get a link error "unresolved external symbol" for: imShow<unsigned char,char>(unsigned char *,char *,int,int) I don't understand what I did wrong!

  edit Found my answers here. Bottom line: toString/valueOf can only return primitive types. So here the lack of native getters in javascript shows, I suppose. I would like to use the following simple function in an elementwrapper: function ElGetter(id){ var id = id; return { set: function(nwid){id = nwid;}, toString: function(){return document.getElementById(id);}, valueOf: function(){return document.getElementById(id);} }; } var myEl = ElGetter('myId'); console.log(myEl.innerHTML); //=> undefined But I can't get it to work. • Rails: Accessing previous loop in Populator (rake db:populate)

  I am populating my Rails database using populator, and I have a case where I would like to build a series of records where fields start_date and end_date follow seamlessly from each other (from today back into the past). Here is a sample of what I'm doing: Chain.populate 1 do |ch| ch.date_end = DateTime.now ch.date_start = DateTime.civil(DateTime.now.year-rand(40)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Chain.populate 0..10 do |chs| chs.date_end = Chain.find(:last).date_start chs.date_start = DateTime.civil(chs.date_end.year-rand(10)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Problem? undefined method 'date_start' for nil:NilClass. I assume the problem is the first Chain record hasn't been saved, so I added: Chain.save # in between the two loops This didn't work either. How can I make this work? Thank you!

• Having an @ inside of a string - PHP

  So I know that you use a backslash to escape most things in php however the @ symbol is an operator that suppresses error messages. I'm trying to put an email string like this inside of an array "[email protected]", however php is throwing an error. How do you escape the @ sign? EDIT: Here is the code example that was throwing the error: $arr = array(3=> "[email protected]",4=> "[email protected]"); However replacing the double quotes with single quotes fixes the error as answered below.... why is that true?

• How to convert a C++ program that uses CUDA into MEX

  For work, I am converting the Image Denoising program that comes with the CUDA SDK into a MATLAB program. As far as I know, I have made all the necessary changes required by MATLAB, but when I try to call mex on it, MATLAB returns a bunch of linkage errors that I have no idea how to fix. If anyone has any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. The command I am giving MATLAB is: mex imageDenoisingGL.cpp -I..\..\common\inc -IC:\CUDA\include -L..\..\common\lib -lglut32 And the output from MATLAB is a bunch of these: imageDenoisingGL.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__cutCheckCmdLineFlag@12 referenced in function "void __cdecl __cutilExit(int,char * *)" (?__cutilExit@@YAXHPAPAD@Z) I am running: Windows XP x32 Visual Studio 2005 MATLAB 2007a

  I have a problem with saving the £ symbol to a mysql database. I am running a flex front end, with a php + mysql backend When I save a record from flex, the string gets sent to the server as "This amount is £10" php views the string as above, and when it gets saved into the DB, it gets saved as "This amount is £10". My understanding is that this is correct based on MySQL or PHP is appending a  whenever the £ is used I now retrieve the above record, and it gets sent to flex as "This amount is £10". Flex correctly displays this in a textarea as "This amount is £10" I change another field in the same record in flex, and re-save the transaction. The string now gets sent to the server as "This amount is £10" The record is now saved into the DB as "The amount is £10". Each time the record is re-saved, this effect snowballs. Thanks for any advice you can give.

• Firefox why window.opener is defined even for a new tab

  Hi! I am porting quite old corp application from IE to Firefox. Here is my situation. User goes away from computer for a while and his session becomes expired. When user tries to access something in popup, he is being redirected to login page (in popup window). In login page onload event popup window chain is being closed and root page refreshed (in root page tab user is redirected to login page). The guy before me wrote this like this: if window.top.opener is undefined, we're not in popup. That's why I am getting non-stoppable refresh in Firefox. Why in Firefox window.opener is still defined and points to same window, even if this is a new tab, not popup? How should I correctly determine that current window is popup?

• IE error with jquery counter plugin

  I've implemented a jquery counter script (count up from say 50 to 100 with different increments) that I found from this question: jQuery counter to count up to a target number The scripts works great except for in Internet Explorer 8 (and possibly other IE versions?). Here's an error message from IE with the URL to the creator of the script's demo. Message: 'undefined' is null or not an object Line: 32 Char: 17 Code: 0 URI: http://www.ulmanen.fi/stuff/counter.php I'm just wondering if anyone know how this can be fixed. I'm guessing it has to do with el.html() not finding any data but I can't really figure this out. I have a C library which only compiles in Visual C++ (it probably works in gcc) if: I compile it as C++ code Define __cplusplus which results in all the declarations being enclosed in extern "C" { } So, by doing this I have a static library called, say, bsbs.lib Now, I have a C++ project called Tester which would like to call function barbar in declared in bsbs.h. All goes fine, until I try to link to bsbs.lib where I get the all-too-familiar: Tester.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _foofoo And it always seems to be foofoo which cannot be resolved regardless of which function I call in Tester (barbar or anything else).

• How to unmangle exported symbols from C++ in dynamic libraries in XCode on OSX

  I've been trying to develop a dynamic library in C++ that can be run-time loaded in an application. I finally got it working, but it's a little ugly. I have a function that takes a pointer to a C++ class as an argument, which looks like this: bool registerGrindPlugin( Grind::PluginManager* mgr ); But of course it's being exported as: _Z19registerGrindPluginPN5Grind13PluginManagerE I tried a .c file with a simple function and it exported fine as "registerGrindPlugin", but of course I can't pass a C++ class as the argument that way. Soo... my question is, is there a way to unmangle or alias the exported symbol so that I don't have to use a monstrosity like Z19registerGrindPluginPN5Grind13PluginManagerE in my dlsym call? I did see something about -alias_list as a linker option, but I haven't quite figured out how to use it in XCode. If that is the solution, can somebody provide some more details on how to use this?

When I call a pdo query connection within a function and the connection is included outside the function, the connection becomes undefined. Anyone know what I am doing wrong here? • Keyboard shortcut for Jump to Definition

  I'm looking for a keyboard only shortcut for Jump to Definition. The built-in shortcut requires the mouse: Cmd + Double click. I've tried to add a regular keyboard shorcut for the Edit / Find / Jump to Defintion menu command, but, alas, it will only work when the method name is selected. I'd like to be able to position the cursor within the method name, class name, or other symbol, and hit something like Cmd+Shift+L. Does anyone know of a solution, perhaps using a script, for the problem? Update: The keyboard shortcut works sometimes and sometimes not. When I position the text cursor on a method call with no parameters and press Cmd+Shift+L it takes me to the definition. But it doesn't work for a method that takes an (id) parameter. However it works if the parameter is an int. I have submitted a bug report to Apple.
