• I see files in filezilla, but the internet denies their existance

  I am doing some updates to a 10-year old site, and I am baffled. Everything worked great locally, so I uploaded a bunch of stuff to the server using filezilla. Within filezilla I can see all of the files, but for some reason I get a 404 when trying to view them. It seems as though (at least for the folder Im currently checking) this is happening for items which are "farther down the list" alphabetically. I tried to re-upload a file individually but it didn't change anything. Is this an indication that I hit some sort of limit with the hosting company? And if so why can I still view the files from filezilla? Please offer guidance. I am at a loss.

• Install Apache, Php, Mysql latest versions not available via apt

  I need to install the latest versions of apache, php and mysql that are available on their websites, but the problem is that apt repositories don't have these updates versions yet. Versions that I want: Apache 2.4.4, PHP 5.4.16 and MySQL 5.6.12. Versions available via apt: Apache 2.2.22, PHP 5.4.15, MySQL 5.5.31. Ubuntu doesn't support the above versions of packages. Please, I want help! Thanks! P.S. Tasksel also doesn't have these versions of packages yet.

• Is there a better way to run ubuntu from usb disk

  I have an old laptop with a broken hard drive controller and am running the previous ubuntu from a usb. I installed this as per standard instructions by running some program that copied the live cd to the usb. This has had a few problems, it seems like it was just made for trying and not for everyday use. Ideally I would like to do a proper install to the usb disk instead of just running off the installer disk. Is there a way to do this? The main problems I have are: When adding mounts to fstab it gets overwritten on each reboot When installing updates the kernel cannot be updated

• Minecraft Fullscreen not working

  I upgraded to Quantal recently, and Minecraft seems to not want to run in fullscreen. When I go to fullscreen it, the screen will go black for a second, as if it was about to go fullscreen normally, but then it just restores back into its window. So far I have tried: using different JREs (I've tried openjdk 6 and 7, as well as oracle7). Oracle's jre wouldn't even run Minecraft (I just got a black screen after logging in) switching graphics drivers (tried nvidia-current, nvidia-current-updates, and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau) updating minecraft bin files updating lwjgl libraries separately from the lwjgl site None of this seemed to work at all. I am running Minecraft with the command java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame Graphics card is GeForce 9500 GS/PCIe/SSE2. Everything was working fine a few days ago when I was on 12.04.

  The answer to this SO question has become stale: iOS version/device statistics - where can i find? because time currency wasn't part of that question, and iOS version updates have been release since this question was asked. Is there a web site or other publicly available source which keeps a current or frequently updated list of the percentages of iOS devices and OS versions in use, perhaps by continual monitoring of app analytics or web site logs or other means? And what device or OS information are iOS app analytics currently allowed to report, if any? (...assuming an appropriate privacy policy and adhering to such, of course.)

I am looking for a step-by-step process to fix this, and as a newbie, I don't know how to use the command line. • building kernel headers (v3.4) breaks wifi (in Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS)

  I have dual-booted by Samsung Series 5 Chromebook into Ubuntu using Jay Lee's script/instructions, and then installed the ~500 updates that appear thereafter. Now, I am trying to build my kernel headers in an attempt to enable virtualization so that I can run VirtualBox (I have a VM image on a flashdrive). I followed the instructions here: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/chromebook-central/PPQFpC7mYzk mainly doing as olofj suggests in his answer, while also making sure to abide by additions/edits made by panZ and algp. However, now that I have done so, my wifi has stopped working, and when I click on the network icon in the top bar, in place of wifi networks there is a grayed-out message that says "no network devices available". I have an Atheros AR9300 Ethernet card (I think thats what you call it). Any help is much needed and appreciated. Any further details necessary to answer the question will be provided as necessary. • Login speed varies over time

  I have a weird problem with my Ubuntu right now. My login speed is never consistent for months, sometimes it changes within weeks. What I mean is, for example, within 2 weeks, boot time is really fast and speedy but then say after that, boot time becomes noticeably slower. Usually, right after the ubuntu login sound plays, my desktop would've finished loading already but sometimes, the ubuntu login sound is already done playing and I'm still in this stage of the login -- image, exactly like that. Any reasons for this? Sometimes it slows down after updates (which I think is kind of normal?) After a few reboots, it becomes fast then randomly it becomes slow again.

  My colleague, Albert White, has published a useful article detailing how to set up local IPS repositories for use within an enterprise: How to Create Multiple Internal Repositories for Oracle Solaris 11 This is useful as most servers will not be directly connected to the Internet and most customers will want to control which Oracle Solaris SRUs (Support Repository Updates) are "qualified" for deployment within their organization.  Setting up and managing Internal IPS (Image Packaging System) Repositories is the way to do this. The concept can naturally be extended and adapted.  For example, Albert talks about a "Development" Repo containing the latest Oracle Solaris 11 deliverables.  When qualifying a software level for deployment across the enterprise, a copy of a specific level could be taken, e.g. "GoldenImage2012Q3" or "SRU8.5", and once it passes testing, be used to deploy across the enterprise. • Mobile phone detection (brand, model, browser etc)

  What do you use to detect visitor's mobile phone, down to the model if possible? Currently we maintain our own database but it's really getting behind due to lack of manpower to maintain it, so we decided to give 3rd party solution a try. These are my candidates but I don't have time to really try them all: DeviceAtlas - 1 year personal evaluation, but basic license is affordable. Their database look solid with daily update and user-contributed tests / updates. I am favoring this one at the moment. DetectRight - I was recommended this by a colleague but really can't find much from their site. 20k devices -- really? WURFL - Open source, database collaboratively derived from UAProf. So basically if you're going with UAProf solution, you're better off with WURFL. DetectMoBileBrowsers - This looks like the simplest of all. Too bad it's language dependent (PHP). Please share your experience or suggestions!

  I'm making a game that uses an Entity/Component architecture basically a port of Artemis's framework to c++,the problem arises when I try to make a PlayerControllerComponent, my original idea was this. class PlayerControllerComponent: Component { public: virtual void update() = 0; }; class FpsPlayerControllerComponent: PlayerControllerComponent { public: void update() { //handle input } }; and have a system that updates PlayerControllerComponents, but I found out that the artemis framework does not look at sub-classes the way I thought it would. So all in all my question here is should I make the framework aware of subclasses or should I add a new Component like object that is used for logic.

• Asynchronous update design/interaction patterns

  These days many apps support asynchronous updates. For example, if you're looking at a list of widgets and you delete one of them then rather than wait for the roundtrip to the server, the app can hide the one you deleted, giving immediate feedback. The actual deletion on the server will happen in the background. This can be seen in web apps, desktop apps, iOS apps, etc. But what about when the background operation fails. How should you feed back to the user? Should you restore the UI to the pre-deletion state? What about when multiple background operations fail together? Does this behaviour/pattern have a name? Perhaps something based on the Command pattern?
