  • Anyone know of a .net library/utility that will convert a word document to an mp3 format

    Anyone know of any well-supported/proven methods for converting a Microsoft word document to an MP3 or wav format such that hearing-impaired folks could "listen" to documents that I have stored in my web-based document management system? I already have the interface built such that someone can use the telephone to get the list of documents available, with the dates and titles "read" to them over the phone, but now I would like the ability to let someone actually listen to the contents of word files stored in the system. Ideally a .net library or utility that would let me convert the DOC - MP3 after each upload would be best, but one that "read" the file on demand would be OK too.

  • How to Transfer Large File from MS Word Add-In (VBA) to Web Server?

    Overview I have a Microsoft Word Add-In, written in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), that compresses a document and all of it's related contents (embedded media) into a zip archive. After creating the zip archive it then turns the file into a byte array and posts it to an ASMX web service. This mostly works. Issues The main issue I have is transferring large files to the web site. I can successfully upload a file that is around 40MB, but not one that is 140MB (timeout/general failure). A secondary issue is that building the byte array in the VBScript Word Add-In can fail by running out of memory on the client machine if the zip archive is too large. Potential Solutions I am considering the following options and am looking for feedback on either option or any other suggestions. Option One Opening a file stream on the client (MS Word VBA) and reading one "chunk" at a time and transmitting to ASMX web service which assembles the "chunks" into a file on the server. This has the benefit of not adding any additional dependencies or components to the application, I would only be modifying existing functionality. (Fewer dependencies is better as this solution should work in a variety of server environments and be relatively easy to set up.) Question: Are there examples of doing this or any recommended techniques (either on the client in VBA or in the web service in C#/VB.NET)? Option Two I understand WCF may provide a solution to the issue of transferring large files by "chunking" or streaming data. However, I am not very familiar with WCF, and am not sure what exactly it is capable of or if I can communicate with a WCF service from VBA. This has the downside of adding another dependency (.NET 3.0). But if using WCF is definitely a better solution I may not mind taking that dependency. Questions: Does WCF reliably support large file transfers of this nature? If so, what does this involve? Any resources or examples? Are you able to call a WCF service from VBA? Any examples?

I'm trying to work out how I would loop through a 8 bit binary word and check the value of specific bits.     I have a row that has keywords in this way (keyword1, keyword2, keyword3) separated by commas as shown. When a user signs in, you know that he wants information about (keyword1, keyword3). Now, I have another table that has bunch of information related to different keywords, this table has a row called (keywords) which indicates if this information is suitable for which keyword. How do I render for the user the information he needs depending on the keywords. In other words, if the user wants information about (keyword3, keyword1) how do I go to the (information) table and find all the information that has the word (keyword1) or the word (keyword3) in the row (keyword)?     I have a program installed called WinSCP. When I press the Windows key and type "SCP", I get "No items match your search." Is there a configuration option I can set somewhere, so that this item will be found? I'm not looking for a specific solution for this particular program, but something general, so that if there's a program named XYZ, I can find it via the Start Menu search by entering YZ. EDIT TO ADD: I'm looking for a "set-it and forget-it" type of configuration change, so that within-word searching happens always, automatically. I don't want to have to type a * before every query. Apparently this wasn't clear from what I wrote above.

If I create a hyperlink to a regular HTML file, when I click on the link, it opens in my default browser (Google Chrome) as expected. However, if I click on a link to a PDF file on a website, it opens in Internet Explorer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file?     I have this function called ProperCase that takes a string, then converts the first letter in each word to uppercase. So ProperCase("john smith") will return "John Smith". Every keyword shows up properly with no problems in unicode conversions etc. Now, When I am adding these words to the database column of a table, the words show up as messed up. http domainsoutlook.com/b/site/bhaskar.com.html For example on this front end page if you see there is a keyword that is shown as a blank but still occurs on the website 8 times. (It isnt empty in the database though). I have checked and there is no problem with mysql_real_escape_String...because the output stays the same before and after the word is gone through mysql_real_escape_String. Another problem was that I wanted to fix my urls for arabic language. They should be showing up as /word-{1st letter of the word}/{whole word}.html but its showing as /word-{whole word}/{1st letter of the word}.html I really need answers for these two questions.

  • Watchguard Firewall - Issues with SSLVPN

    I have a client who has a WatchGuard XTM 23 device on site as their primary firewall. I just upgraded its firmware a couple days ago to the latest version for that series, 11.6.6. The problem is that I haven't successfully been able to setup a VPN connection for them. Using the instructions at http://www.watchguard.com/help/docs/webui/11_XTM/en-US/index.html#en-US/mvpn/ssl/configure_fb_for_mvpn_ssl_c.html, I'm trying to setup a VPN with SSL connection: From the firewall web GUI / Dashboard, I go to VPN - Mobile VPN with SSL, I enable it, add the organization's public IP address to which the firewall is connected. I've setup a group in Active Directory named "SSLVPN-Users", verified that the WatchGuard box can talk to the Active Directory Server, and added myself to that group. I then downloaded the WatchGuard Mobile VPN with SSL client onto my own Windows 7 machine, walked to the client's 2nd building across the street (which has a different public internet connection), and tried to connect to the VPN. When I do try to connect with the client, I get the following errors: 2013-06-24T15:41:32.119 Launching WatchGuard Mobile VPN with SSL client. Version 11.6.0 (Build 343814) Built:Jun 13 2012 01:42:55 2013-06-24T15:41:37.595 Requesting client configuration from 184.174.143.176:443 2013-06-24T15:41:50.106 FAILED:Cannot perform http request, timeout 12002 2013-06-24T15:41:50.106 failed to get domain name I discovered today the Firebox System Manager, and its "Traffic Monitor" which gives current log information (refreshes every 5 seconds). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the client has setup any sort of WatchGuard / Firebox logging server, so actually recording server-side logs to file hasn't been done. I can work on implementing that if I need to. I noticed that if I try to ping the client's public IP address from an outside source, I don't get a response back (unless I added a policy into the firewall to allow ICMP traffic from "External", which I successfully did a few seconds ago for testing purposes - that rule has since been reverted to not respond to external ping requests). There's a policy in the firewall for allowing SSLVPN Traffic authentication requests coming from any external source TO the Firebox, and then to do the authentication / actually allow the VPN traffic, there's a policy allowing traffic for anyone in the SSLVPN-Users group to flow between that user and the inside network. So my questions are: Has anyone seen these errors before from the Watchguard VPN Client, and/or do you have any suggestions on how I can resolve that error? If I need to setup logging server to grab the firewall logs (in order to further troubleshoot this issue), how complicated a task is that and does it require a lot of system resources? The organization I'm consulting with only has 1 server and not a lot of resources or technical know-how.

    When I set a program to open a specific file type by default, it works (like Word 2013 for PDFs). However, when I change the default back to reader, I lose Word as an option that I can pick in the open with sub-menu. How can I get it to stick? Update: It seems that there is something special about word. Adding Notepad++ as the default and then changing it back seems to keep notepad++ on the sub-menu. Word version is 2013

    I have an LXC container with i686 Ubuntu 12.04 running on a x86_64 Ubuntu 12.04 host. I've set up a bridge using instructions here. However the ping from the container only goes through to the host and not to other machines on the local network. Similarly only the host and not the other machines see the container OS.   • VIM "upgraded" to expandtab and tabstop=8 on Python files

    After reinstalling my OS from Kubuntu 12.10 to Kubuntu 14.04, VIM has changed its behaviour when editing Python files. Though before the reinstall all file types had noexpandtab and tabstop=4 set, now in Python those values are expandtab and tabstop=8, checked also via VIM behaviour and also via asking VIM set foo?. Non-Python files retain the noexpandtab and tabstop=4 behaviour that I prefer. The .vim direcotry and .vimrc were not touched during the reinstall.
