  • Better way to design a database

    I have a conceptual problem and I would like to get your ideas on how I'll be able to do what I am aiming. My goal is to create a database with information of persons who work at a place depending on their profession and skills,and keep control of salary and projects (how much would cost summing all the hours of work) I have 3 categories which can have subcategories: Outsourcing Technician welder turner assistant Administrative supervisor manager So each person has its information and the projects they are working on, also one person may do several jobs... Is there a way to do this in a more efficient way? What to add or delete of this small model? I guess I am missing something in the salary - maybe I need another table for that?

    I'm trying to create star shaped "virtual" LAN with OpenVPN which is not connected to physical network. ie. tap0 packets should not go to eth0. Packet should only go through OpenVPN to connected clients. This setup works with my OpenVPN testing machine which runs Virtual Box but not on my actual server which is running on top of Xen.     Since the beginning of the year, I'm getting a lot of traffic with the user agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042316 Firefox/3.0.10 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729). My access logs show 40% - 60% from that user agent. That's strange because the user agent states a Firefox 3.0.10 browser (is anybody using that browser in 2012? Definitely not 40%-60% of visitors on a normal website). Also, the logs show that this user agent only requested the HTML document and no referenced assets like images, css, js files. I checked the IPs of those requests (with that UA). It's coming from all over the world. I recognized that those IPs sometimes have a mobile user agent. So my suspicion is a mobile app that is doing a lot of "spider requests" - but if that would be the case than other web sites should have the same problem. That's actually my question: Does anybody experience same/similar problems?

  • OpenVPN on Tomato and Vista - can't see my network

    I followed the instructions here (http://todayguesswhat.blogspot.ca/2011/03/quick-simple-vpn-setup-guide-using.html) to set up a TCP connection to OpenVPN on my Tomato router. Used TCP because the place I usually surf at seems to have the other ports blocked. My Vista laptop is able to connect to the router but I don't appear to be getting an IP address. I'm able to access my router's admin page, but I can't see the network at home. When I browse to Whatsmyip I see my home IP.   • DHCP server with multiple interfaces on ubuntu, destroys default gateway

    I use Ubuntu, and I have many interfaces. eth0, which is my internet connection, and it gets its info from a DHCP-server totally outisde of my control. I then have eth1,eth2,eth3 and eth4 which I have created a DHCP-server for.(ISC DHCP-Server) It seems to work, and I even get an IP-address from the foreign DHCP-server on the internet facing interface. However, for some reason it seems my gateway for eth0 became screwed after I installed my local DHCP-server for eth1-eth4. (I think so because I got an IP for eth0, and I can ping other stuff on the local network, but I cannot get access to the internet). My eth0-specific info in /etc/network/interfaces: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 10.0.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 10.0.1.0 broadcast 10.0.1.255 gateway 10.0.1.1 mtu 8192 auto eth2 iface eth2 inet static address 10.0.2.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 10.0.2.0 broadcast 10.0.2.255 gateway 10.0.2.1 mtu 8192 My /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server: INTERFACES="eth1 eth2 eth3 eth4" So why does my local DHCP-server fuck up the gateway for eth0, when I tell it not to listen to eth0? Anyone see the problem or what I can do to fix it? The problem seems indeed to be the gateways. "netstat -nr" gives: 0.0.0.0 --- 10.X.X.X ---- 0.0.0.0 --- UG 0 0 0 eth3 It should have been 0.0.0.0 129.2XX.X.X 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 So for some reason, my local DHCP-server overrides the gateway I get from the network DHCP.     We are testing out Hyperic 4.5.1 in a quite small environment for now. Currently there are just 1-5 agents and there probably won't be any more than 10-15. When I run ps ax there are 20(!) postgres processes running. For a small setup like this, that can't be necessary, can it? I'm a software developer and don't have much experience with setting up servers and such though, so don't really know. Either way, what settings are appropriate for a small Hyperic setup like this?     I currently have two ubuntu servers running Heartbeat and DRBD. The servers are directory connected with a 1000Mbps crossover cable on eth1 and have access to an IP camera LAN on eth0. Now, let's say that one node is down and the remaining functional node is booting after having been shut down. The node that is still functioning won't start up heartbeat and provide access to the drbd resource from a cold boot. I have to manually restart heartbeat by sudo service heartbeat restart to get everything up and running. How can I get it to start fine from a cold start, when only one server is present?     I have a server running on Debian wheezy with MaraiDB and OwnCloud. Few days ago, I wanted to update the packages because of the OwnCloud updates but something went wrong. Usually in this case I'd probably try to remove and again install the problematic packages, but on a server which is used by different people it doesn't seem like a valid solution anymore.
