• Concatenate text files with Windows command line, dropping leading lines

  I need to concatenate some relatively large text files, and would prefer to do this via the command line. Unfortunately I only have Windows, and cannot install new software. type file1.txt file2.txt > out.txt allows me to almost get what I want, but I don't want the 1st line of file2.txt to be included in out.txt. I have noticed that more has the +n option to specify a starting line, but I haven't managed to combine these to get the result I want. I'm aware that this may not be possible in Windows, and I can always edit out.txt by hand to get rid of the line, but is there a simple way of doing it from the command line?

• Dynamicall Rendering in a Scrollable Area

  What is the generic algorithm or process that is commonly used to dynamically render portions of a scrolling area? For example, in Google Maps, when the user scrolls past the bounds of the currently rendered area, a grey checkerboard pattern is displayed within the not-yet-rendered portions while the application loads and renders those areas. I'm looking specifically for the approach, or the mathematics, related to filling a graphics area in chunks based on what has just come into view. If possible, I'm looking for anything relevant to the GDI+ process of doing so.

• Quick and easy flood protection?

  I have a site where a user submits a message using AJAX to a file called like.php. In this file the users message is submitted to a database and it then sends a link back to the user. In my Javascript code I disabled the text box the user types into when they submit the AJAX request. The only problem is, a malicious user can just constantly send POST requests to like.php and flood my database. So I would like to implement simple flood protection. I don't really want the hassle of another database table logging users IPs and such... as if they are flooding my site there will be a lot of database read/writes slowing it down. I thought about using sessions, like have a session that contains a timestamp that gets checked every time they send data to like.php, and if the current time is before the timestamp let them add data to the database, otherwise send out an error and block them. If they are allowed to enter something into the database, update their session with a new timestamp. What do you think? Would this be the best way to go about it or are there easier alternatives? • JTable cells not rendering shapes properly

  I'm trying to render my JTable cells with a subclassed JPanel and the cells should appear as coloured rectangles with a circle drawn on them. When the table displays initially everything looks OK but then when a dialog or something is displayed over the cells when it is removed the cells that have been covered do not rendered properly and the circles are broken up etc. I then have to move the scroll bar or extend the window to get them to redraw properly. • What is the most efficient way to delete all selected items in a ListViewItem collection

  My user is able to select multiple items in a ListView collection that is configured to show details (that is, a list of rows). What I want to do is add a Delete button that will delete all of the selected items from the ListViewItem collection associated with the ListView. The collection of selected items is available in ListView.SelectedItems, but ListView.Items doesn't appear to have a single method that lets me delete the entire range. I have to iterate through the range and delete them one by one, which will potentially modify a collection I'm iterating over. Any hints? Edit: What I'm basically after is the opposite of AddRange().

• Python - removing double quotation marks " so that script runs

  I am using Python scripts to edit the table of many shape files. The following script runs fine, but if there are any " marks in the SIT_FULL_S field, the script errors and shuts down. gp.CalculateField_management(fc + "\\Parcels.shp","SIT_FULL_S", "!SIT_FULL_S!.lstrip('0')", "PYTHON") arcgisscripting.ExecuteError: ERROR 000539: Error running expression: "9030 W SR 2 HWY "A"".lstrip('0') <type 'exceptions.SyntaxError'>: invalid syntax (<string>, line 1) Failed to execute (CalculateField). I have two options, create a new script that runs through and deletes all occurances of ", and then run the above script or modify the above script to ignore the " and contiue running. Can anyone help ?

  I'd like to align two lists in a similar way to what difflib.Differ would do except I want to be able to define a match function for comparing items, not just use string equality, and preferably a match function that can return a number between 0.0 and 1.0, not just a boolean. So, for example, say I had the two lists: L1 = [('A', 1), ('B', 3), ('C', 7)] L2 = ['A', 'b', 'C'] and I want to be able to write a match function like this: def match(item1, item2): if item1[0] == item2: return 1.0 elif item1[0].lower() == item2.lower(): return 0.5 else: return 0 and then do: d = Differ(match_func=match) d.compare(L1, L2) and have it diff using the match function. Like difflib, I'd rather the algorithm gave more intuitive Ratcliff-Obershelp type results rather than a purely minimal Levenshtein distance.

  I would like to build two different versions of a WAR in Maven (I know that's a no-no, that's just the way it is given the current situation). In the version of a WAR depicted by an assembly, I want to replace a dependency by the same dependency with a different classifier. • sqlite3.OperationalError: database is locked - non-threaded application

  Hi, I have a Python application which throws the standard sqlite3.OperationalError: database is locked error. I have looked around the internet and could not find any solution which worked (please note that there is no multiprocesses/threading going on, and as you can see I have tried raising the timeout parameter). The sqlite file is stored on the local hard drive. The following function is one of many which accesses the sqlite database, and runs fine the first time it is called, but throws the above error the second time it is called (it is called as part of a for loop in another function): def update_index(filepath): path = get_setting('Local', 'web') stat = os.stat(filepath) modified = stat.st_mtime index_file = get_setting('Local', 'index') connection = sqlite3.connect(index_file, 30) cursor = connection.cursor() head, tail = os.path.split(filepath) cursor.execute('UPDATE hwlive SET date=? • C#: Populating a UI using separate threads.

  I'm trying to make some sense out of an application Ive been handed in order to track down the source of an error. Theres a bit of code (simplified here) which creates four threads which in turn populate list views on the main form. Each method gets data from the database and retrieves graphics from a resource dll in order to directly populate an imagelist and listview. From what Ive read on here (link) updating UI elements from any thread other than the UI thread should not be done, and yet this appears to work? Thread t0 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PopulateListView1)); t0.IsBackground = true; t0.Start(); Thread t1 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PopulateListView2)); t1.Start(); Thread t2 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PopulateListView3)); t2.Start(); Thread t3 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PopulateListView4)); t3.Start(); The error itself is a System.InvalidOperationException "Image cannot be added to the ImageList." which has me wondering if the above code is linked in some way. Iis this method of populating the UI recommended and if not what are the possible complications resulting from it?

• Firebug shows error "_11 is undefined"

  Actually that's it. What does this error mean? I've googled on it, but found nothing. This error appears in firebug console after the page is loaded, or when i click on tabs. It does not prevent the execution of another JavaScript code, but the nature of it is mysterious for me.

• FileNotFoundException when cropping a photo

  I'm trying to crop a photo to use in a Live Wallpaper but I'm getting a FileNotFoundException when the crop activity tries to save my new cropped image. • BlackBerry responseXML is null

  I'm trying to port a portion of AJAX code I wrote over to the BlackBerry application's embedded browser. Our base build is 4.6.1 and the RIM documentation claims that XMLHttpRequest's responseXML is available starting with this version. And when I request an XML file from my local server, I get back the responseText (so I know the request is working), but the responseXML is always null. I've made sure the HTTP "Content-Type" header is set to "text/xml" and I am getting the correct data loaded in a web browser. It's just nulling out in the BB web environment. Does anyone know what might be happening? A backup of using the responseText and piping it through DOMParser is not possible because that object was not added to the BB browser until 4.7.1. So I'm not sure what fallback I have.

• Loading large amounts of data to an Oracle SQL Database

  Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with what I am about to embark on. I have several csv files which are all around a GB or so in size and I need to load them into a an oracle database. While most of my work after loading will be read-only I will need to load updates from time to time. Basically I just need a good tool for loading several rows of data at a time up to my db. Here is what I have found so far: I could use SQL Loader t do a lot of the work I could use Bulk-Insert commands Some sort of batch insert. Using prepared statement somehow might be a good idea. I guess I was wondering what everyone thinks is the fastest way to get this insert done. Any tips?

  I am using Selenium WebDriver and the Python bindings to automate some monotonous WordPress tasks, and it has been pretty straightforward up until this point. I am trying to select a checkbox, but the only way that I can identify it is by the text following it. Here is the relevant portion of HTML: <li id="product_cat-52"> <label class="selectit"> <input value="52" type="checkbox" name="tax_input[product_cat][]" id="in-product_cat-52"> polishpottery </label> </li> The only information that I have in my script to identify this checkbox is the string "polishpottery". Is there any way to select that checkbox knowing only the text that follows?

  I'm trying to render a CGPDFPage (selected from a CGPDFDocument) into a UIImage to display on a view. I have the following code in MonoTouch which gets me part way there. My question is, how do I select the full pdf page and flip it round to display correctly. I have seen a few examples using ScaleCTM and TranslateCTM but couldn't seem to get them working. • asp.net, wcf authentication and caching

  I need to place my app business logic into a WCF service. The service shouldn't be dependent on ASP.NET and there is a lot of data regarding the authenticated user which is frequently used in the business logic hence it's supposed to be cached (probably using a distributed cache). As for authentication - I'm going to use two level authentication: Front-End - forms authentication back-end (WCF Service) - message username authentication. For both authentications the same custom membership provider is supposed to be used. To cache the authenticated user data, I'm going to implement two service methods: 1) Authenticate - will retrieve the needed data and place it into the cache(where username will be used as a key) 2) SignOut - will remove the data from the cache Question 1. Is correct to perform authentication that way (in two places) ? Question 2. Is this caching strategy worth using or should I look at using aspnet compatible service and asp.net session ? Maybe, these questions are too general. But, anyway I'd like to get any suggestions or recommendations. Any Idea

  Hi, I've got two tables - users and servers, and for the HABTM relationship, users_servers. Users HABTM servers and vice versa. I'm trying to find a way for Cake to select the servers that a user is assigned to. I'm trying things like $this->User->Server->find('all'); which just returns all the servers, regardless of whether they belong to the user. $this->User->Server->find('all', array('conditions' => array('Server.user_id' => 1))) just gives an unknown column SQL error. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but just need someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

  First we find the MSB of the first integer, and then try to find a region of N contiguous zero bits within the second number which is to the left of the MSB from the first integer. I have also implemented similar algorithms but working to the right of the MSB of the first number, so they don't require this seemingly extra condition. How can I get rid of this extra condition, or even, are there far more optimal solutions?

  DRUPAL 6.X I have this custom form constructor inside my custom module which is invoke through ajax request. I’m attempting to theme this form with the template file reside in my theme directory. For that matter, I’ve registered my theme inside template.php file which reside in my theme folder. • Return a Const Char* by reading an @property NSString in separate class

• Automate downloads from password protected website

  I need some help with a work project I have been assigned. At the moment we manually go to the site, logon and then download 2 excel files from a supplier's website every month. The files are then loaded into SQL. We want to automate this process. Now the loading of the files into SQL I can do, but I am not sure how I can automate logging onto the website entering my user details and collecting the files. I mostly deal with SQL and have very little .NET experience, so any code samples would be most appreciated.
