  • What is the point of Convert.ToDateTime(bool)?

    I was doing some type conversion routines last night for a system I am working on. One of the conversions involves turning string values into their DateTime equivalents. While doing this, I noticed that the Convert.ToDateTime() method had an overload which accepted a boolean parameter. First question? Under what circumstances could this ever be useful? I went a little further and tried to execute the method in QuickWatch. Either way ( true or false ), the routine returns an InvalidCastException. Second question? Why is this method even here?

    Ok so say I have a website that the majority of content is behind a closed door, login screen for paying customers only. How can I let google know what is there so people can find the site through a search engine. What programming techniques could I use to give more content to the google bot. I will have some overview and demonstration screens to tempt the users but will these five to ten pages of content be enough for the search engines. The key work is quite a highly sort one and there is quite alot of competition. And before anyone asks the site is not a subscription porn site (Sadly)

    I have just started using geb with webdriver for automating testing. As I understand it, when I define content on a page, the page element should be looked up each time I invoke a content definition. //In the content block of SomeModule, which is part of a moduleList on the page: itemLoaded { waitFor{ !loading.displayed } } loading { $('.loading') } //in the page definition moduleItems {index -> moduleList SomeModule, $("#module-list > .item"), index} //in a test on this page def item = moduleItems(someIndex) assert item.itemLoaded So in this code, I think $('.loading') should be called repeatedly, to find the element on the page by its selector, within the context of the module's base element. Yet I sometimes get a StaleElementReference exception at this point. As far as I can tell, the element does not get removed from the page, but even if it does, that should not produce this exception unless $ is doing some caching behind the scenes, but if that were the case it would cause all sorts of other problems. Can someone help me understand what's happening here? Why is it possible to get a StaleElementReferenceException while looking up an element? A pointer to relevant documentation or geb source code would be useful as well.

  • [Drupal] SQL error reporting by mail

    I was wondering if its possible to have some kind of SQL error reporting that sends me an email that includes the error and the website that it's been found on. I'd like to take this precaution because of hosting multiple drupal systems.   • Setting default values for object properties in AS3

    I'm an actionscript newbie so please bear with me. Below is a function, and I am curious how to set default property values for objects that are being created in a loop. In the example below, these propeties are the same for each object created in the loop: titleTextField.selectable, titleTextField.wordWrap, titleTextField.x If you pull these properties out of the loop, they are null because the TextField objects have not been created, but it seems silly to have to set them each time. What is the correct way to do this.   • Matching elements from 2 arrays in perl

    Right now I am attempting to synchronize two data files that are listed by date so that i can make comparisons later on. However I can not seem to print out only the lines where the dates match. At this point I have separated out the data for each file into 2 arrays. I need to find only the dates that are in both arrays and print them out. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Hi, Let say I have a directory which is being hosted by Jetty or Apache (i'd like an answer for both), i know the URL including the port and i can log into the server. How can i find the directory that is being hosted by a certain port? I'd also like to go the other way, i have a folder on the server, which i know if being hosted, but i don't know the port so i can't find it in a web browser. How can i find a list of directories that are being hosted? This has been bugging me for ages but i've never bothered to ask before! Thanks.

    I need to calculate a whole bunch of averages on an List of Surveys. The surveys have lots of properties that are int and double valued. I am creating a business object to handle all the calculations (there are like 100) and I'd rather not code 100 different methods for finding the average for a particular property. I'd like to be able to have the UI pass a string (representing the property) and have the the business object return an average for that property. So, like... int AverageHeightInInches = MyObject.GetIntAverage("HeightInInches"); . . . Then have linq code to calculate the result. Thanks!

    A HCS12 microcontroller I had to buy for a class I had recently taken has 40 pins on the back side of it. The class was merely about computer organization, and so unfortunately, we never had a chance to cover all the capabilities of the chip itself. Now that the class is over, I have been thinking about using the to familiarize myself with the assembly language. I haven't found any sources that cover pin control and was wondering if anyone could possibly provide me with a hands-on pin tutorial.

    I am new to HTML so this question might sound a bit lame. Anyways I have a saved webpage on my desktop that when i open it in google chrome i want it to show a specific URL instead of its current location. Any ideas how i might get this to work? I tried using the history.pushState but i have no idea why it is not working.   • Why is this removing all elements from my LinkedList?

    Why is my remove method removing every element from my Doubly Linked List? If I take out that if/else statements then I can successfully remove middle elements, but elements at the head or tail of the list still remain. However, I added the if/else statements to take care of elements at the head and tail, unfortunately this method now removes every element in my list.   • Learning Java Swing (GUI builder or not?)

    Well I know basic Java and wanted to learn Swing so of course looked at the Sun website first, where this tutorial is. I was going to start it but realised it relied heavily on NetBeans, which I'm not sure about. I'm not sure because it's learning that I want to acheive, not a nice looking program. So I thought using NetBeans like this would be great once I know it, but I don't want to be building things without a clue what's going on underneath, and of course this could also cause problems later. My first question is is this the right way to do it, should I try not to rely on an IDE heavily? Looking through questions on the site most people recommend using the Sun tutorial, and I've only seen one answer that agrees with what I'm thinking, and they linked to this resource which looks promising. Or perhaps I'm getting the wrong idea of the Sun tutorial, perhaps it doesn't rely on the IDE, it just seemed like that. My second question is, if you agree with me, what resources (apart from the one above) would you recommend? Thanks for your answers.

  • Missing the Rails gem. Please `gem install -v=2.3.4 rails`

    I was trying to fix this error and I ended up with a new one. I have installed ruby 1.8.6, but using Built-in JRuby 1.4.0 for my app. Everything was working fine until I updated every gem(as specified by the answer I got from that link) and everything crashed: ever since I tried to start the app I received the following error message: Missing the Rails 2.3.4 gem. Please gem install -v=2.3.4 rails, update your RAILS_GEM_VERSION setting in config/environment.rb for the Rails version you do have installed, or comment out RAILS_GEM_VERSION to use the latest version installed. Then, I tried to uninstall the updates(to v2.3.8, most of them), so the last version is 2.3.4. In my config/environment.rb file I have this: RAILS_GEM_VERSION = '2.3.4' unless defined? RAILS_GEM_VERSION so I guess everything is as I left it before the update. The question is....why do I keep getting the error and I can't start the app?
