• How do I connect to my InterBase db on a Windows Server from Delphi XE?

  I have installed InterBase on a Windows Server 2008, added a database through IBConsole and I'm trying to set up a connection to it from Delphi XE. I've clicked on the DataExplorer tab and right clicked "INTERBASE/Add New Connection". This is where I am having trouble setting it up correctly. Anyone know this stuff? I'm waaaay out of my comfort zone here but I'm helping some people out and I'm trying to get this to work myself so that I hopefully can fix the problems they are having.

• Gnome 3 - Unable to change date and time

  I am running Arch Linux with Gnome 3. Unfortunately, although my time and date settings in /etc/rc.conf show that HARDWARECLOCK='UTC' and TIMEZONE='America/LosAngeles'. I continue to get the timezone of Europe/London. If I try to change the date and time via the GUI. It requires root access. After authorizing root access, the date and time may be changed; however, after closing the GUI window, it automatically reverts back to the previous incorrect timezone. I am able to use pool.ntp.org in order to sync my time to the correct one; however, this works only for the current session and is not fixed. This solution is inconvenient since there is not always network access. What other solutions are available for this problem?

  How do you forcibly uninstall Eclipse 3.5 plugins without using Eclipse? I made the mistake of installing Google's Android SDK, and now when I try to check for updates via the "Check For Updates" or "Install New Software", some Android process runs, consumes all my CPU, takes up 3 gigs of memory, and crashes Eclipse. I can't even get to the uninstall dialog before Google's plugin kills everything.

• fsck: FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED after each check with -c, why?

  I use a script to partition and format CF cards (connected with a USB card writer) in an automated way. After the main process I check the card again with fsck. To check bad blocks I also tried the '-c' switch, but I always get a return value != 0 and the message "FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED" (see below). I get the same result when checking the very same drive several times... Does anyone know why a) the file system is modified at all and b) why this seems to happen every time I check and not only in case of an error (like bad blocks)? • Linux Mint loses Window Focus

  I recently installed Linux Mint 13 64bit with Cinamon Desktop and run into a weird problem. It's about losing Mouse-Focus if more than one Window are open. For Example, I open up Chromium, play around a little bit, and then, if I try to open any Programms from the Taskbar, I cannot click on it. It seems that Chromium won't free his Focus. Another Example, if I open two Windows (e.g. Chromium and a Terminal) and I work with Chromium, then click into the Terminal I get no Focus to it. Sorry, its a bit hard to explain.

• Windows Login Failure

  I'm getting an error in the Event Viewer, which is also generating a lot of Logon Failure messages on our syslog server. Pretty much stuck on how to resolve. EventID: 536 Logon Type: 3 Reason: The NetLogon component is not active This is for a Windows Server 2003 system. I have checked here We're using Shavlik Protect 9 to scan and deploy patches. Shavlik stores the credentials for the systems and uses those stored credentials to deploy patches. This system is able to scan and deploy to other systems on the network using those credentials and no errors are generated. When installing to the local system that Shavlik is physically on then this error is generated. Whats interesting is that it doesn't generate during a scan, and the patches install fine. We've contacted Shavlik to get the response that they are unable to help since it's a Microsoft error. Has anyone seen this?

• SharePoint 2010 MySites - Simple explanation needed!

  I've been playing around with the 2010 beta for a couple of weeks, experimenting with topology options etc. I think I've got myself totally confused as to how it works hence if there's any SP experts out there that can explain things in simple terms for me I'd appreciate it! I want to setup a farm with 3 servers providing the content & MySites. I presume that the way to do this is to load balance or DNS round robin traffic between the 3 servers. The bit where I'm confused is that My Site Settings page asks for a specific My Site Host hence all my site traffic will be pushed to a single server even though we have 3 in the farm. If this hosts fails I presume MySites will be unavailable. Is this right? How do I configure it so that access to MySites is load balanced across the 3 servers in the farm?

If I copy this user profile and paste it into another group with a different name, windows workaround loads as it should, but some policies are not applied. Does anybody know a way to solve this problem instead of creating a new group and user from scratch?

• What's the simplest way to get .flac music files into iTunes?

  I'm looking for a simple way to import .flac files into iTunes, so I can play them on my mac, and when I'm out, my iPhone, and I'm willing to be I'm not the first person to want to do this. What are the best tools for doing this? The quality of the music is useful, but truth be told, the speakers I'd play them on are so crappy that a lot of the sound quality in the .flac format would be lost anyway, so I'm not averse to converting to mp3 files. If it helps give any context, I'm using a Macbook with OS 10.5 Leopard, and iTunes 9, connected to a 16gb iPhone with standard apple headphones, which is sometimes plugged into Bose SoundDock for music, and the music files are piano performances.   ok what Im doing normally works but since my rule "includes" itself is giving me issues and can't find a solution after hours working on different options. I have a .htaccess with: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/3.15.0/(.*) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /3.15.0/$1 [L] this is for my software versions, I have a program that can request sometimes versions that are updated and in the server may be behind a couple version so I want to be able to say that whatever is comming in forward to the latest version that in this example is 3.15.0 /var/www/nameblabla/3.15.0 my .htaccess is on /var/www/nameblabla/.htaccess so the first Condition is to ignore request that already has the right path and version.. the second should be to grab all request and forward to 3.15.0... and of course not loose the path to the files I want from inside that should be the same. so far I can only get it to redirect to such directory but will loose the path and others I get the "Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects" I guess this is because Im including the 3.15.0 path Any help or another way to do this with out mod_rewrite?

• Mounting LVM2 volume with XFS filesystem

  Unfortunately I'm not able to access the data on my NAS anymore. I can't figure out why this is the case as I haven't changed anything. So I plugged one of the harddisks in my computer to access the data. • One user sometimes gets an unknown certificate error opening Outlook

  Let me clarify a little. This isn't an unknown certificate error it's an unknown certificate error in so much as I can't figure out where the certificate comes from. This happens on a Win 7 Enterprise machine connecting to Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010. The error he gets is that the root is not trusted because it's a self-signed cert. Take a look at this screenshot because even if I had generated this myself I wouldn't have put "SomeOrganizationalUnit" or "SomeCity" or "SomeState", etc. (Red block covers our domain name.) I'm a little concerned this is a symptom of a security breach. Exchange 2010 has three certificates installed but none of them are this certificate. They all have different expiration dates (one is expired) and different meta-data. edit: There are two scenarios that I see the certificate warning and one of them I can reliably repeat. When the user leaves his computer on over night Outlook pops the Security Warning window. I don't know what time this happens. Using Outlook Anywhere if I connect to Exchange externally via a cellular USB modem the Security Warning window will appear every time I close and reopen Outlook. Whether I say Yes or No does not make a difference on whether or not I can connect to Exchange and send/receive email. In other words, I can always connect to Exchange. I've checked my two Exchange servers and my Cisco router for a certificate that matches this one and I can't find it. edit 2: Here is a screenshot of the Security Alert window. (I've been calling it Security Warning... My mistake.) edit 3: I stopped seeing this error several weeks ago but I can't tie it to any single event (because I just sort of realized that warning had stopped showing up) but I think I found the source of the certificate. Last week I found out that the certificate on our website DomainA.com was invalid. I knew that our web admin had installed a valid certificate so when I look into the problem I found out I was being presented with the invalid certificate that this posting is in regards to. The Exchange server's domain is mail.DomainA.com so I can only guess that Outlook was passing this invalid certificate through as it did some kind of check on DomainA.com. This issue is still a mystery because the certificate warning stopped appearing several weeks ago whereas the invalid certificate issue on the website was only fixed last week. It ended up being a problem with the website control panel. The valid certificate was installed but not being served for some reason and instead the self-signed cert was being served.

• No sound Ubuntu 10.10 (have SB Live! card)

  I am new to Linux/Ubuntu and I just installed 10.10 on my Dell Desktop PC that was running Windows XP. The PC is about 5-6 years old and the sound card it has is a SoundBlaster Live! card. The Sound Preferences recognizes the card as [SB Live! Value] EMU10k1X. It is currently set to Analog Stereo Duplex. I tried multiple other sound configurations and nothing works. No sound but some clicks come out of the speakers. I ran the system test and during the audio tests the same thing happened, just clicks and pops. I tried to play some music with Rhythmbox and when it tries to play a track it tries for several seconds and then just closes itself, or sometimes just doesn't play. I ran a check for drivers, but the only driver it found to install was for my nVidia video card. It did not show any drivers for the sound card. Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to get the sound to work?

• Anyone have any experience with bargain laptop batteries?

  I've got an oldish D820 that's got a 100% dead battery. I know that I could, in theory, take it apart and replace bad cells in the battery. I'm not really comfortable with doing that. I also know that there are various places that sell replacement batteries for 20% to 80% of the cost that Dell would charge. Does anyone have any experiences with buying more than a couple of these off-brand batteries? If a battery goes boom, it could be really ugly, so I'd rather not risk it, but at the same time, the dell batteries are really expensive... Any opinions on these ebay / off-brand battery vendors? • Movie colors are off on ubuntu

  I've been playing with a new SLR that also happens to record movies. When I try to view a movie using Movie Player, it plays fine, and the sound is there, but the colors are off - green grass is purple, and my golden retriever is a blue retriever. VLC reports that the file is broken, offers to repair it, and plays it with the same problem. The same file plays fine under WinXP with both Media Player and Quicktime, and with no problems under MacOS also with Quicktime. What's the problem, and how can I fix it?

I have the same username and group set, of course, but... So, where is this peruser launchd tool configured, so that I can disable the daemons that are causing this error message?

  I've got a MacBook laptop in the house, and when Mac OS X copies files over the network, it often brings along hidden "dot-files" with it. For instance, if I copy "SomeUtility.zip", there will also be copied a hidden ".SomeUtility.zip" file. I consider these OS X dot-files as useless turds of data as far as the rest of my network is concerned, and don't want to leave them on my Windows file server. Let's assume these dot-files will continue to happen. i.e. Think of the issue of getting OS X to stop creating those files, in the first place, to be another question altogether. Rather: How can I use Windows Explorer to find files that begin with a dot / period? I'd like to periodically search my file server and blow them away. I tried searching for files matching ".*" but that yielded – and not unexpectedly – all files and folders. Is there a way to enter more specific search criteria when searching in Windows Explorer? I'm referring to the search box that appears in the upper-right corner of an Explorer window. Please tell me there is a way to escape my query to do what I want? (Failing that, I know I can map a drive letter and drop into a cygwin prompt and use the UNIX 'find' command, but I'd prefer a shiny easy way.)

When I set this up there no password or anything was required I merely entered in paths such as: smb://<host>/<share> and all worked. • Printing on Windows 8 64-Bit through Windows Server 2008 (32 Bit) RemoteApp

  We have a network where our server is running on Windows Server 2008 (32 Bit) and a client computer is running on Windows 8.1 (64 bit) with a local printer attached to the client. The printer is an HP P1006. The remote app works well but when trying to print we get an odd "error 545". We have tried both using the "connect client printer" function in remoteapp and also making the printer shared over the network and printing to it via the network from within the remoteapp. Nothing works. We can print a test page from the server to the client computer just fine, but it seems from remoteapp we cannot. We have also tried installing the 32 bit drivers on the 64 bit machine as both the primary and secondary drivers but cannot get them to install. Suggestions please? We've been going crazy over this issue.
