The NSString *pPath which is defined in the class as an instance variable. @interface MainViewController : UIViewController { NSString *pPath; } In the implementation after being set it is being retained.     I am writing an app in using cocos2d. This method I have written for the selector goToFirstScreen: . The view is in landscape mode. I need to send an email. So, I need to launch the MFMailComposeViewController. I need it in portrait mode. But, the control is not entering in to viewDidLoad of the mailMe class. The problem is in goToScreen: method.   • Do I have to call release on an objective-c retain class variable when setting it to a new object?

    Say I have: @property (nonatomic,retain) NSString *foo; in some class. And I call: myclass.foo = [NSString stringWithString:@"string1"]; myclass.foo = [NSString stringWithString:@"string2"]; Should I have called [myclass.foo release] before setting it to "string2" to avoid a memory leak? Or the fact that nothing is pointing to the first "string1" object anymore is good enough? And in the dealloc method [foo release] will be called.

    I'm trying to debug an iPhone app I'm working on, and the idea of adding fifty NSLog statements to the various source files gives me the willies. What I'd like to do is write a pair of statements, say NSString *methodName = [self methodName]; NSLog(@"%@", methodName); that I can just paste into each method I need to. Is there a way to do this? Is there some Objective-C construct for asking a method for its name? Or am I gonna have to do this the hard way?

  • Why does UIActionSheet cancel crahes my App?

    I try to use the UIActionSheet within my iPhone App but have the following problem. When I tap the cancel button "I don't", the app crashes. When I remove the NSLog statement from the actionSheet:clickedButtonAtIndex: it does not. The "Yes, do it" button works just fine and I see the log statement in the console.     Hello, I get the warning "Format not a string literal and no format arguments" on the NSLog call in the following block: (void) alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", buttonIndex]); } I have read in another post here that this error message indicates an insecure use of NSLog.     Hi All, Here's what I want to do. I have 2 strings and I want to determine if one string is a permutation of another. I was thinking to simply remove the characters from string A from string B to determine if any characters are left. If no, then it passes. However, I need to make sure that only 1 instance of each letter is removed (not all occurrences) unless there are multiple letters in the word. An example: String A: cant String B: connect Result: -o-nec- Experimenting with NSString and NSScanner has yielded no results so far.

I have tried a couple of things, but cannot either get the values to be anything other than 0 or 1, or the K element is completely wrong (showing up as a negative number).   • Can't delete a file created by mkstemp() on Mac OS X

    Apparently, NSFileManager is unable to delete files created by mkstemp(). I'm running this on Snow Leopard. Any ideas on why the problem is occurring and/or how to work around it? Thanks!

  • Core Data Predicates with Subclassed NSManagedObjects

    I have an AUDIO class. This audio has a SOUND_A subclass and a SOUND_B subclass. This is all done correctly and is working fine. I have another model, lets call it PLAYLIST_JOIN, and this can contain (in the real world) SOUND_A's and SOUND_B's, so we give it a relationship of AUDIO and PLAYLIST. This all works in the app. The problem I am having now is querying the PLAYLIST_JOIN table with an NSPredicate. What I want to do is find an exact PLAYLIST_JOIN item by giving it 2 keys in the predicate sound_a._sound_a_id = %@ && playlist.playlist_id = %@ and sound_b.sound_b_id = %@ && playlist.playlist_id = %@ The main problem is that because the table does not store sound_a and sound_b, but stored audio, I cannot use this syntax. I do not have the option of reorganizing the sound_a and sound_b to use the same _id attribute name, so how do I do this? Can I pass a method to the predicate? something like this: [audio getID] = %@ && playlist_id = %@

    I have a core data based app that manages a bunch of entities. I'm looking to be able to do the following. I have an entity "SomeEntity" with the attributes: name, type, rank, foo1, foo2. Now, SomeEntity has several rows if when we're speaking strictly in SQL terms. What I'm trying to accomplish is to retrieve only available types, even though each instance can have duplicate types. I also need them returned in order according to rank.
