• Need help on how to setup my packages and projects in eclipse

  I am new to Java and am making a license generator. This is my current setup. com.example.licensegenerator.client (used by the client application) :LicenseLoader (no Main method) :LicenseDownloader (no Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.server.keys (used by the server) :ProductKeyGenerator(Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.server.license (used on the server also) :LicenseGenerator(Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.lib (Shared classes between client and server) :Contants (no main) Now I have a few questions. Is it OK to have multiple Main() methods in a single project? Will I be able to compile them to different .jar files? (In this case I need two different jars for the server) Is there a better way to setup the packages? And a totally unrelated question, with exceptions, is it better to handle them right then and there or throw them and let the main method catch them all (the program cannot recover if an error occurs)

• question on src folders in eclipse

  So, I've been doing android application tutorials and everytime I create a package, for example the helloAndroid tutorial is com.example.android. When it saves this to src it creates a folder for com, another for example and one last one for android. So it gives me the error "class com.example.android does not exist" because its broken into different folders. If anyone can help me out please email me at: [email protected] Thank you very much.

Follow these short steps to get GlassFish 4.0 setup so you can start developing, deploying, and debugging your Java EE7 applications. Prerequisites GlassFish 4.0 Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 12.1.1.2.2+ from OTN or Eclipse Marketplace Setting up the server connection In the Servers view, click to add a New > Server . Select GlassFish 4.0 from the list of supported server configurations. Pick your GlassFish installation directory (usually <glassfish 4>/glassfish) and select your domain. After you click Finish you should now be setup to launch Glassfish 4.0 in normal and debug mode within Eclipse as well as associate projects for deployment through the Add and Remove wizard. Using GlassFish tools in Eclipse GlassFish server tools provide some useful information about your running GlassFish 4.0 environment. Resources displays current resources deployed in the domain including your JDBC Connection Pool and JDBC Resource names. I find this extra bit of information useful when working with JPA. Deployed Applications shows the current active deployments in GlassFish which can be undeployed as needed from within Eclipse. Deployed Web Services provides information about SOAP-based web services deployed in this domain. Also with the running server are quick launch links to open the Administrative Console, Server Logs, and the GlassFish Community Site all within Eclipse's embedded browser.

• WiX 3 Tutorial: Generating file/directory fragments with Heat.exe

  In previous posts I’ve shown you our SuperForm test application solution structure and how the main wxs and wxi include file look like. In this post I’ll show you how to automate inclusion of files to install into your build process. For our SuperForm application we have a single exe to install. But in the real world we have 10s or 100s of different files from dll’s to resource files like pictures. It all depends on what kind of application you’re building. Writing a directory structure for so many files by hand is out of the question. What we need is an automated way to create this structure. Enter Heat.exe. Heat is a command line utility to harvest a file, directory, Visual Studio project, IIS website or performance counters. You might ask what harvesting means? Harvesting is converting a source (file, directory, …) into a component structure saved in a WiX fragment (a wxs) file. There are 2 options you can use: Create a static wxs fragment with Heat and include it in your project. The pro of this is that you can add or remove components by hand. The con is that you have to do the pro part by hand. Automation always beats manual labor. Run heat command line utility in a pre-build event of your WiX project. I prefer this way. By always recreating the whole fragment you don’t have to worry about missing any new files you add. The con of this is that you’ll include files that you otherwise might not want to. There is no perfect solution so pick one and deal with it. I prefer using the second way. A neat way of overcoming the con of the second option is to have a post-build event on your main application project (SuperForm.MainApp in our case) to copy the files needed to be installed in a special location and have the Heat.exe read them from there. I haven’t set this up for this tutorial and I’m simply including all files from the default SuperForm.MainApp \bin directory. Remember how we created a System Environment variable called SuperFormFilesDir? This is where we’ll use it for the first time. The command line text that you have to put into the pre-build event of your WiX project looks like this: "$(WIX)bin\heat.exe" dir "$(SuperFormFilesDir)" -cg SuperFormFiles -gg -scom -sreg -sfrag -srd -dr INSTALLLOCATION -var env.SuperFormFilesDir -out "$(ProjectDir)Fragments\FilesFragment.wxs" After you install WiX you’ll get the WIX environment variable. In the pre/post-build events environment variables are referenced like this: $(WIX). By using this you don’t have to think about the installation path of the WiX. Remember: for 32 bit applications Program files folder is named differently between 32 and 64 bit systems. $(ProjectDir) is obviously the path to your project and is a Visual Studio built in variable. You can view all Heat.exe options by running it without parameters but I’ll explain some that stick out the most. dir "$(SuperFormFilesDir)": tell Heat to harvest the whole directory at the set location. That is the location we’ve set in our System Environment variable. –cg SuperFormFiles: the name of the Component group that will be created. This name is included in out Feature tag as is seen in the previous post. -dr INSTALLLOCATION: the directory reference this fragment will fall under. You can see the top level directory structure in the previous post. -var env.SuperFormFilesDir: the name of the variable that will replace the SourceDir text that would otherwise appear in the fragment file. -out "$(ProjectDir)Fragments\FilesFragment.wxs": the full path and name under which the fragment file will be saved. If you have source control you have to include the FilesFragment.wxs into your project but remove its source control binding. There is nothing too complicated about this. In the end it turns out that this sort of automation is great! There are a few other ways that Heat.exe can compose the wxs file but this is the one I prefer. It just seems the clearest. Play with its options to see what can it do. • Duplication of menu items with ViewPager and Fragments

  I'm building an Android Application (minimum SDK Level 10, Gingerbread 2.3.3) with some Fragments in a ViewPager. I'm using ActionBarSherlock to create an ActionBar and android-viewpagertabs to add tabs to the ViewPager just like in the Market client. I have one global menu item that I want to be shown on every tab/fragment. On the first of the three tabs I want to have two additional menu items. But now two strange things happen: First if I start the app, everything seems to be fine, I can see all three menu items on the first page and only one item if i swipe to the second and third tab. But if I swipe back to the second tab from the third one, I can see all three items again which shouldn't happen. If I swipe back to the first and then again to the second tab, everything is fine again. The other strange thing is that every time I rotate the device, the menu items from the fragment are added again, even though they are already in the menu. • Android: debug certificate expired error

  I started up Eclipse today, created a new project, and immediately had an error before I had changed a single line: Error generating final archive: Debug Certificate expired on 11/12/11 When installed, the Android SDK generates a "debug" signing certificate for you in a file called "debug.keystore". Eclipse uses this certificate rather than forcing you to create a new one for every project. In older versions of Eclipse, the certificate was only valid for 365 days, but as I understand it the default has been changed to 30 years in newer versions. If for whatever reason you don't want to upgrade Eclipse, you can manually delete the certificate to for Eclipse to generate a new one. You can find the location in Preferences -> Android -> Build -> Default debug keystore (mine was in C:\Users\myUserName\.android\); just delete the "debug.keystore" file, then go back into Eclipse and Clean the project to generate a new file.

• How to get pixel information inside a fragment shader?

  In my fragment shader I can load a texture, then do this: uniform sampler2D tex; void main(void) { vec4 color = texture2D(tex, gl_TexCoord[0].st); gl_FragColor = color; } That sets the current pixel to color value of texture. I can modify these, etc and it works well. But a few questions. How do I tell "which" pixel I am? For example, say I want to set pixel 100,100 (x,y) to red. Everything else to black. How do I do a : "if currentSelf.Position() == (100,100); then color=red; else color=black?" ? I know how to set colors, but how do I get "my" location? Secondly, how do I get values from a neighbor pixel? I tried this: vec4 nextColor = texture2D(tex, gl_TexCoord[1].st); But not clear what it is returning? if I'm pixel 100,100; how do I get the values from 101,100 or 100,101?

  The ADT plugin requires Eclipse 3.0 or 3.5. I would like to upgrade my PC from Vista to Windows 7. But Eclipse 3.5 is not compatible with Windows 7 (as of today, 5/3/2010). Eclipse 8.0 is compatible with Windows 7, but the ADT plugin requires versions 3.0 or 3.5. Any solution in sight?

I find it very difficult to read the code in Java, and I think it's because of its colors (or lack of them really) Is there any way to mimic the colors that VS.NET 2010 has inside eclipse? (even better would be to replace all its hotkeys for their equivalent in VS.NET, like ctrl+k for ctrl+f3, but I believe it would be utopic)

  I went to the Environment Variables in 'System' in the control panel and made 2 new variables. one for user variables and one for system variables, both named JAVA_HOME and both pointing to C:\Sun\SDK\jdk\bin but for some reason, I still get the below error when running a java command... • Flash Builder missing fundamental things

  All of a sudden Flash Builder 4 is missing all kinds of fundamental things and is generating incorrect errors. I've had the same issue yesterday, where I fixed it by downloading a new Flex SDK and importing that into FB. I did this again, but this time it fixed nothing. I don't think it's something I did, like removing critical references from the build path. The errors also appeared on projects I was not working on at the time. It occurs for ActionScript, Flex and Flex Library projects alike. • Java and Eclipse setup properly, how do I install JOGL or LWJGL?

  I have my Java environment installed alongside Eclipse, and I was successfully able to create and run a new project (simple System.out.println("Yay I work!"); I have the OpenGL SuperBible, and I primarily want to code 3D things (I'll take my time using the book to learn how to draw shapes in 3D space, etc..) Can you help me get setup with OpenGL in Java? I dont really need LWJGL, although I WILL make games eventually. I just can't even figure out with all of these terrible (and old) tutorials floating around on the net how to install either JOGL or LWJGL. If you can give me a hand with that, I'd appreciate it. I'd like to feel I contributed by having this page show the answer to the question, so that other poor souls googling for this same information can benefit.

  Installing Oracle Event Processing 11g Earlier this month I was involved in organizing the Monument Family History Day.  It was certainly a complex event, with dozens of presenters, guides and 100s of visitors.  So with that experience of a complex event under my belt I decided to refresh my acquaintance with Oracle Event Processing (CEP). CEP has a developer side based on Eclipse and a runtime environment. Developer Install The developer install requires several steps (documentation) Download required software Eclipse  (Linux) – It is recommended to use version 3.6.2 (Helios) Install Eclipse Unzip the download into the desired directory Start Eclipse Add Oracle CEP Repository in Eclipse http://download.oracle.com/technology/software/cep-ide/11/ Install Oracle CEP Tools for Eclipse 3.6 You may need to set the proxy if behind a firewall. Modify eclipse.ini If using Windows edit with wordpad rather than notepad Point to 1.6 JVM Insert following lines before –vmargs -vm \PATH_TO_1.6_JDK\jre\bin\javaw.exe Increase PermGen Memory Insert following line at end of file -XX:MaxPermSize=256M Restart eclipse and verify that everything is installed as expected. Server install The server install is very straightforward (documentation).  It is recommended to use the JRockit JDK with CEP so the steps to set up a working CEP server environment are: Download required software JRockit – I used Oracle “JRockit 6 - R28.2.5” which includes “JRockit Mission Control 4.1” and “JRockit Real Time 4.1”. Oracle Event Processor – I used “Complex Event Processing Release 11gR1 (11.1.1.6.0)” Install JRockit Run the JRockit installer, the download is an executable binary that just needs to be marked as executable. Install CEP Unzip the downloaded file Run the CEP installer,  the unzipped file is an executable binary that may need to be marked as executable. Choose a custom install and add the examples if needed. It is not recommended to add the examples to a production environment but they can be helpful in development. Voila The Deed Is Done With CEP installed you are now ready to start a server, if you didn’t install the demoes then you will need to create a domain before starting the server. Once the server is up and running (using startwlevs.sh) you can verify that the visualizer is available on http://hostname:port/wlevs, the default port for the demo domain is 9002. With the server running you can test the IDE by creating a new “Oracle CEP Application Project” and creating a new target environment pointing at your CEP installation. Much easier than organizing a Family History Day!
